Chapter 204
.
Note: Ares and Xena are from "Xena: warrior princess." This chapter addresses a long held theory about these two, which might be upsetting to some. This theory was first presented in the season 3 premiere "the Furies." Fans of the show might already know which theory I'm talking about. If you feel that you might not be able to handle this theory, and still enjoy old reruns of this show, well, we warned you.
.
Xena could sense something, or specifically someone. It was Ares, god of war, Xena's former mentor and lover. Ares made himself visible when they were alone.
.
Xena: Never thought I'd see you again. Maybe that was just wishful thinking on my part.
Ares: Nice to see you too Xena.
Xena: I take it you got a furlough from Hell.
Ares: I was the god of war in our world, I can come and go as I please.
Xena: And you're here why, to stir up trouble here on Earth.
Ares: This world doesn't need my help to stir up trouble.
Xena: Sadly true. So why are you here?
Ares: We both know that war between this world and Hell is inevitable.
Xena: I hate it when you're right. I don't supposse there's any chance you want to fight against Evil.
Ares: If Good wins, and I die in the battle, I wind up in Heaven. Doesn't sound like a place I'd do well in. Worse, for me at least, might be surviving this final battle. A world without war, even temporarily, too boring for a guy like me.
Xena: Yeah, you became god of war for a reason. Once again, why are you here?
Ares: I was hoping you would come and fight in Hell. There are a lot of wars between countless mini-kingdoms, my vision of Heaven. There are some fighting for just causes, John Brown for one. Why not fight against slavery, or whatever cause you choose. You can even bring your wife and daughter.
Xena: I don't think Gabrielle or Eve want to be in Hell.
Ares: I guess I knew you'd turn me down, but I had to try.
Xena: Something I've always wondered. Why were there so many women in Greece who looked exactly like me?
Ares: I'm not sure you really want to know.
Xena: So it's true, you were my father?
Ares: Yes. Those others, Meg, princess Diana, Lilah, they were your half-sisters.
Xena: You're disgusting.
Ares: Yeah, when you're immortal, and humans are like goldfish to us, you tend to stop worrying about who might have your genetic material.
Xena: Even Lucifer draws the line at incest.
Ares: Fine, I'm a pig. But answer me this, you're seeking redemption by doing good deeds, trying to forgive those who've wronged you.
Xena: Trying to, yes.
Ares: I haven't seen your son Solon in Hell. But Hope, Gabrielle's daughter, the one who murdered Solon, she's here. I can tell you exactly where she is. You want to forgive her, or take vengeance, that's up to you.
