Prompts:
"Do we have a deal?" Eggman, disguised as a business entrepreneur, held out his hand to Sonic with a wide grin across his mustached face.
'… If I become a hero… maybe I can be as strong as Sonic.' Nikki looked anxiously at the hand… sweat trinkling down the sides of his face.
He reached out. 'I-If I can be strong..! T-Then I can do a lot of cool things! Things that can help everyone!'
"That's it… Yeeeees~" Eggman grabbed hold of his hand, pulling him closer and right up to his face. "Congrats, my boy! Now I'm your personal trainer…" He then flipped out from his coat a lot of papers and sprung them everywhere around him. "But, for legal purposes, I'll need you to sign all these 'accidents' forms. Hoho! You know! Just in case!"
"Whaaa! Paperwork?" Nikki was covered in the forms, sighing. 'At least this will be worth it…'
Eggman's training began, hoping to refine Nikki into a 'supposed hero' while having him carry out his dirty work and summon Sonic. He had a suspicion that they were somehow tied… he hoped that with a new head-honcho around, Sonic would appear to challenge Nikki's rising fame. After all, what hedgehog superstar wouldn't defend his title as the coolest, strongest, and fastest hero of all time?
As the press and training continued, Nikki's family noticed the rising change in their son's behaviors.
"Oh, Nikki! Nikki!" Fans would cheer, as Eggman would purposefully stag scenarios to make Nikki believe he was being heroic.
"Huh?" Nikki, now wearing a ridiculous amount of 'punk' clothing, turned to the people. 'Wow… they're all here… for me?'
"Can I get your autograph?" A small child was hoisted up by his bigger brother, holding up something for Nikki to sign.
Nikki smiled, about to go for it before Eggman tucked on one of his quills, "And what do you think you're doing!?"
"I… W-well…" Growing nervous, Nikki adjusted his glasses, "I… He asked for my signature."
"A FREE signature?" Eggman loomed over his little 'creation' and tsk'd with his finger in his face. "No hero ever gives FREE signatures. No, no. That makes you look like a sissy!" He bent down, jabbing Nikki in a 'friendly' manner to make his point across. "They want a bad boy! A tough dog! You know, someone they can rely on when the going gets rough! You're not gonna ease up on your new found—strong—image for a lousy, snot nose kid are ya?"
Using Nikki's hopes against him, Nikki turned back to the child, looking over his shoulder.
"…I can't!" Nikki whacked the paper out of the boy's hands, "I'm not some cheap hero! Get in the line, kid!" he folded his arms and stormed back to Eggman.
The child began to tear up as his older brother defended him, shaking a fist at Nikki. "You're no real hero!"
This caused Nikki to flinch, but Eggman quickly interceded… "Not with those glasses." He removed them and motioned for Nikki to smile to the crowd taking pictures.
Later, Amy approached Nikki, grabbing him from a photoshoot after he had 'taken down' some robotic bad guys.
"Nikki! What are you doing?" she put her hands furiously on her hips, "Everyone's been worried about you! They said you whacked a kid's hand away for wanting a signature…" she looked very concerned, but Nikki just 'tsk'd as Eggman had taught him to do and lowered his sunglasses.
"I'm not the same 'Nikki' anymore, Babe! I'm way stronger now!" he posed, which made her look at him with confusion. "Aren't I even cooler now than that lame old Sonic The Hedgehog?"
"Ugh!" she shook her hands by her sides, thrusting them down. "Sonic would never be so mean to his fans… nor his friends!"
"H-huh?" Nikki turned to see her storming off, "H-hey, wait!" he reverted only momentarily before Eggman pulled him away again.
"There you are~ Come on! I hear a bulger is about to- I mean, is happening as we speak!" he shook his head, avoiding the reveal of him being behind all the staged scenarios.
"B-but…" being pulled away, Nikki fought a little back, wanting to catch up to Amy.
"Pfft! Please! Amy? Hero's like yourself don't need girlfriends anymore! You have…" he took the edge of a curtain… "FANS!" he showed the many protesters outside, opening his arms up and wide above him before looking back at the booing crowd and closing it just as quickly. "Heheh… uh… wrong curtain…"
Still oblivious to Eggman's games, Nikki began a stapled 'anti-hero' and not the good kind either…
Barely viewed as doing any good, Nikki was shielded from his reviews by Eggman, ripping newspapers from his hands or turning off the t.v when news about him came on.
But Eggman was growing anxious to battle Sonic again, so he devised an 'if it ain't broke, don't fit it' scheme to lure him out the old fashion way…
Using his old puppet, Anton, he riled up the youngster into believing Amy and Nikki had broken up, and encouraged him to try and 'sweep her off her feet' again.
Anton burst through the brick of her house, storming in and declaring that now that she was single, she couldn't possibly refuse the toughest guy in Hedgehog Town!
Amy was captured once more, but this time, she purposefully went along with him pulling her up over his head and laughing.
She pouted, folding her arms in annoyance, but thought that this might help bring Nikki back to her…
'Maybe, just maybe… Sonic can come save me and humble that awful ego Nikki's 'Coach' has got him on.' She thought to herself, letting Anton place her in his car and shove flowers in her face.
Riding down near where she knew Nikki was, she played 'sweet' and asked if Anton could prove he's more powerful than Nikki has become.
Anton let out a boasts laugh, standing up in his roofless-car and slamming a foot down on the top rim of his windshield. "HAHAHA! That old pipsqueak I used to punch around? No problem!"
Nikki, seeing Amy in danger, raced out to combat Anton, as Eggman had hoped…
But without Eggman's assistance, he was losing, and getting the crap kicked out of him by his old bully…
'W-what's happening to me?' Nikki looked himself over, not sure what was happening. 'All these clothes… they're weighing me down! And my attitude… Amy needs me and I can't even reassure her it's gonna be okay! She just looks so…' he looked up at her face, having his own head being squished and rubbed down against by Anton's large foot.
"HAHAHA!" He laughed, as Amy looked worriedly towards her love.
She peeked over the car's door, "Nikki! Oh, what have I done!" she placed her hands on the sides of her face. 'Where's Sonic? I thought he'd be here by now… I wanted him to teach Nikki what a true hero is like. The one that sticks up for others and doesn't belittle his friends! Ohhh… All I've done is caused all this pain to Nikki…' She then noticed a brick in Anton's car, 'Is that from my house?' she picked it up and threw it at Anton.
"Ow! Hey!" He rubbed his head and turned towards her. "What's the big idea, sweetcheeks?"
'Sweetcheeks?' Nikki looked mortified. Was Anton really thinking Amy would ever go out with him? A bully who picks on those he feels is lesser than him? A jerk who beats down on the weak just to make him feel strong? A-…. 'Oh.' Nikki looked down at the rumble Anton's super strength had created while bashing him against the building's side.
'…I'm Anton…' his tears began to form from under his sunglasses, his clothes all torn up, and realizing in all the rumble… a poster advertising him as a villain!
'A villain!? I had no idea!'
Anton removed his foot from under Nikki, moving towards Amy, his hands out with his clawed fingers twitching as he moved towards her.
"What? You think I'd let you get away with throwing rocks at me!? I'd better teach you some respect!"
"Ah!" Amy ducked her head, screaming, "Help me! Nikki!"
Suddenly, a familiar fox friend of Nikki's appeared. "Ah! That sounds like Amy!" he focused his sights and hurried his twin tails, having only just strolled down the walkway, looking for the sound of crashing he had momentarily heard before.
"Amy, Nikki!" seeing his old friend, hoping he was still his old friend after not hearing from Nikki since his whole 'I'm a hero now!' ordeal, he flew straight towards Anton.
Anton simply knocked him out of the sky, mocking him with further laughter as he flew straight down. 'Ouch… I've gotta find Sonic…' he flew up again, "Don't worry, Nikki! Amy! I'll be right back!" He charged up high in to the sky, looking for any sign of him… 'Sonic always appears here! Not only is he cool, but he just knows when bad things are going on! I know he'll help me and my friends!'
Eggman was peering out the window, before the building manager tapped his shoulder and started hollering at him for the expenses on his agencies property damage.
While Eggman was distracted, along with Anton and Amy… Nikki twitched below the rumble… his eyes squeezed tightly shut.
'I'm no hero… I'm still just as weak as I ever was! If only I could be strong… a real hero… the kind that could save Amy and stop Anton from hurting her! Oh, Amy… I'm so sorry! I'm so, so sorry! If only I could be as cool and charming as Sonic! That's the hero you deserve!' Suddenly, Nikki transformed into Sonic, rolling away from his debris and racing to the other side of the town. That's when Tails noticed him.
"Ah! It's Sonic!" he flew down beside him, "My friends are in danger!"
Sonic winked to him with reassurance and gave him a thumbs up. "Shall we partner up again, old buddy?"
Thrilled, Tails nodded enthusiastically. "Would I ever!"
The two made their way back, Sonic winding himself up, before propelling forward, gaining enough speed to launch himself into the air, "Tails, now!" Tails flew down and helped him gain even greater height, having him right above the scene with Amy and Anton's car.
"Let him have it, Sonic!" Tails released him over the car, having enough speed now, he was perfectly positioned to take out Anton.
"W-wha!?" Anton, seeing Sonic spiraling directly towards him, began to tremble in fright; Being secretly afraid of Sonic, though he'd never admit it.
"No one likes a bully! Those are the lamest of the lame! Rolling… Punch!" Sonic uncurled at the last second. In a true hero's style for making an entrance, he made his appearance known as he slammed his fist into Anton.
Anton was rolled back, before getting up and whacking his tail at Sonic, "Furifuri attack!" he frantically swung his massive tail his way, not really thinking, just reacting. 'Grr.. When he'd get here!?'
Sonic stepped out from the first hit but caught the other one with both hands.
"H-huh?" Anton sweated in fear. "How did you stop that!?"
"Because I'm Sonic." He smirked up at Anton, "Sonic The Hedgehog! The coolest, fastest, and strongest hedgehog in town!" he gripped down tightly on Anton's tail, spinning him around in the air.
"Woh-woh-woh-wooooaahhhh!" Anton was hurled away, twinkling in the distance, "THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!"
"Not a word in my dictionary, pal!" Sonic rose his fist towards the fading Anton. "Great job, Tails! I couldn't have leaped so far or given my Rolling Punch enough oomph to knock Anton so far back without your help!"
"Anytime, Sonic!" Tails blushed in pride, happy to be of assistance. "That distance was amazing!" he then peered over the horizon, using his hand to block some of the light as he looked to see how truly far Anton was punched away.
Sonic turned his attention to Amy now, jumping onto the car's door and bending down to offer her his hand. "Hello, miss! Are you alright?"
"Oh, yes. Thank you, Sonic~" Amy fawned, looking deeply thankful as she stared into his kind eyes. "But my boyfriend's in trouble!" she pointed to the rumble. "Can you help him?" Sonic looked behind him.
"Sure! But first, let me get you out of here." He picked her up, "Tails!" he looked back up at him. "Mind dropping the little lady off at her home? I've got people to save!"
Eggman turned back to the window, seeing nothing but Sonic passing Amy back to Tails, and Tails nodding to fly off with her in his arms.
"BLAST IT ALL!" he shouted, before the manager let the 'bill' roll across his printing machine and surround Eggman with all its calculated numbers.
Eggman just bent his head down, frustrated but also depressed as the numbers kept coming… until he was completely covered in the never-ending paper stream. "I wish I wasn't so old…" he pulled out his pocketbook… sobbing…
That whole night, Amy was pacing in worry about Nikki…
Then a doorbell rang.
"Nikki!" She raced to it, opening it up and jumping into his arms.
He looked pretty beat-up, but he had his old glasses back and his sweatshirt on.
"I'm so sorry, Amy… Are you hurt?"
"Em-mm." she shook her head, "I'm alright, but look at all those scratches!" she lightly rubbed a thumb against his cheek, making him wince back.
"Ouch…" he squinted an eye.
She narrowed her own and placed her hands on her hips. "I hope you've learned your lesson, mister! A hero gains his strength from his friends! Not some reputation!"
He nodded humbly and sweatdropped in his embarrassment. "I realize now that I was tricked but… I don't remember what happened…"
"Huh? Did you black out while Sonic was around again?" Amy leaned forward, before sighing in disappointment, bending her head down. "Ohh, Nikki… he was really, really cool this time!" she bundled her fist up by her face, being a true fan again, before letting it drop and looking worriedly back to him.
"Well… I guess it can't be helped now. He must have taken you somewhere safe until you woke up. Come on, then! I'll patch you up." With a kindness and cute tug on his hand, Nikki was sitting on a chair and having her bandage him up.
"But I don't understand." Nikki began, "Why did you just get in Anton's car like that?"
"I… I wanted you to realize that your actions weren't very nice… but I suppose my plan kinda backfired." She looked guilty, turning away before Nikki's curiosity rose.
"Your… plan?"
"I wanted you to see that you weren't as tough as you kept saying you were. That real strength doesn't come from just beating up bad guys all day, and wearing tough-looking clothes, or posing for photoshoots and ignoring your family." She gave him a bit of a scolding glare, as he rubbed the back of his head.
"Was my sister worried?"
"We were all worried!" she hollered, getting up.
"Okay, okay… I'm sorry. I didn't want to be so mean, but my coach…"
She tightened the bandages.
"OW!"
"No more about your coach! Next time, just don't talk to him."
"Y-yes, Amy…" he smiled weakly. "But then… you risked being in a car with Anton… just to help me realize I wasn't being a real hero? How'd you know you'd be okay? That was really dangerous! Weren't you scared?" he moved his head closer to her as she looked away.
"I…" she turned to look down at his hand she was bandaging, before tying it up nice and tight and picking up the band-aids. "I guess I was only thinking of you at the time…" she took one out. "When all is said and done, Nikki… I honestly was only thinking about how much I wanted you back to being your kind self again."
'Wow… she did all that… just to get me to come back home?' Nikki was deeply touched, "Amy…"
She placed the band-aid on his cheek, smoothing it's surface out as he shut one of his eyes, blushing. "I know there's a strength deep within you, Nikki… The love you have for your friends and family… it's the strongest and most wonderful thing about you!" she beamed, smiling widely before moving away and back to her medical supplies, closing its lid. "I guess I was willing to do anything to show you that… that you're strength was being hindered by your pride."
He teared up, about ready to want to just reach out and embrace her, hold her close and never let her go. "A-Am-Amy…"
"Huh? Oh, don't cry, Nikki." She lightly sighed, 'I wish my boyfriend was more manly, like Sonic…'
Nikki continued to cry, "But you're so thoughtful and brave! I wish I could be like that!"
"Hehe~ You can be, Nikki. If you truly rely on those who love you… to help you out when you need it most."
"A-Am… AMYYY!"
"Sigh~ Now go call your family. They've been worried sick!"
