Chapter 381

Jerry had direct, very clear, instructions, nay orders, from Steve and that was to not tell HPD where they were and what they were doing.

This was completely unheard of, Steve rarely left them out of the loop, mainly cause they needed them for back up. But Jerry had listened to him.

At first, he was okay with this, because Steve had brought his own back up, both Wo Fat and Ro's assassin brother, Sin Nombre. He figured the two of them would be great back up. That and the whole reason that he wanted to keep HPD out of the loop was because the last time they went up against Shioma she had a spy in HPD. And they didn't know if she still did.

But then Steve and the rest of the team went radio silent and he couldn't hail them.

After an hour he had started to panic. He went to Noelani who had an update on the corpses Steve had sent pictures of. They had all been hanging there for a few months, all four were males but that was all she got.

Jerry had relayed his worries to her and she told him that if he was really that worried then he should call HPD. When he told her what Steve had said and why, she simply said that he should call their HPD ohana.

So, he had called Duke.

It had only been twenty minutes since he had left that message but there was Duke coming into the office.

"I got your message," Duke said as he came into view. "Is everything alright?"

"Uh… no," Jerry said, because why lie at this point. He was pretty sure that Steve, Danny, Chin, Kono and Wo Fat and Sin Nombre were all captured and possibly dead. He was hoping that they just needed assistance.

He also figured that he probably shouldn't tell Duke that Wo Fat and Sin Nombre were there with the team.

"Okay, look, Five-o went to Lanai this morning chasing a lead on Michelle Shioma, and I haven't heard from them since."

"They could have gone dark for security reasons," Duke offered, which was also true.

"I don't know. These satellite images show activity in a supposedly abandoned area five miles south of Polihua Beach. I believe those figures to be Yakuza and it looks like they're getting ready to roll out," he said. Duke looked them all over with Jerry and then turned to him. "Look. McGarrett said not to tell anyone what they were up to, but I don't care. I don't care if I get fired over this. Something's happened, Five-0's in trouble. I just know it."

Duke seemed to take this in. "Any word from Rowan?"

"No," Jerry said. "Nahele said she picked him up from school, told him she had something to do and then left. I can't get a hold of her either."

Which meant, to Jerry anyway, that she had probably rushed head long into whatever trouble Five-0 had gotten themselves into.

"Well…" Duke said after a while. "Then we better get over there."

"Yeah, but the thing is…. McGarrett believes that the Yakuza may still have moles inside HPD."

"Not the guys I go to."

"You sure you can trust them?"

"I trust them with my life," Duke said solemnly. "Let's go get our friends."

He went to walk away and Jerry put out a hand to stop him. "Uh… I should probably mention that he went there with… help…"

Duke looked at him. "Do you mean Rowan or her brothers?"

"Her brothers. Both of them," he said and Duke nodded.

"I'll be sure to mention that everyone on Steve's team is friendly," Duke said and then he was walking away for real that time.

God, Jerry hoped he made the right decision… and that Steve wasn't too mad at him for ignoring is direct command.

H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O

The men that had surrounded them had made them stand, then they had taken their weapons. Which took a very long time, as Con was once again a walking armoury. It took him five minutes alone to drop everything.

They even took his rabbit mask.

Then they cut down the bodies that had being hanging above them, then tied the ropes to the hands behind their back. Once the corpses were tied to them they were made to walk with the bodies trailing behind them.

Steve figured that Danny would be the one who bitched but it was Con who whined: "Whhhhyyy…."

They're trying to hide our tracks, Steve had said, but Wo Fat was quick with a: It's psychological torture.

And they were both right in a way.

They forced them to walk all the way to the camp. They ripped Steve's Velcro name tag right off of his Kevlar and then read his name out. Then they turned to Wo and Con and asked how long they had been working with Five-0.

Con very sarcastically said: "I'm on vacation."

That earned him a hit. A sharp jab to his stomach that knocked him to his knees. They went to hit him again but they all stopped moving when Wo Fat got in the way. He just stood over Con with a dark glare on his face. He said nothing, did nothing, he just glared and they all just sort of backed away.

Wow, well, it definitely paid to be him.

Right, but Steve wanted them to pay attention to him so he moved to get their attention.

"Where's Shioma?" Steve had asked and they had directed him to the body that had been tied up to him.

Con had looked at each and every body that had been dragged there with them and then said: "But none of those bodies are female."

When they went to hit him again, Wo Fat once again got in the way. "Seriously. Touch him again, see what happens."

Then came the taunts, about how he was caught and they were going to take him down and when they were done they'd find that sister of his too. And not once did Wo Fat's icy glare crack.

When they were done, he simply smiled politely and told them to tell Shioma that her death had come and it would be easier on everyone if she just let him shoot her.

Now that, that had shaken them, Steve could tell, but they still shoved them into a cage and locked the door behind them.

Then they told them that they'd be packing up the camp and when they were done, then they'd deal with Steve and the others.

Know what that means? Dead. They were going to be dead.

And that was about when Steve started panicking. They were locked in a cage, Steve hadn't told HPD where they were going, he had blown the element of surprise, his secret weapons were locked up with him, at this rate the only option would be calling Rowan for help and he really didn't want to do that.

"Well it's a good thing that HPD knows we're here," Danny said very sarcastically. "Oh wait… they don't!"

"You know, it's gonna take them a little while to strike the camp, so that at least buys us a little time to figure out how we're going to get out of here before they do," Chin added.

"Okay. Any ideas?" Kono asked.

Wo had taken a similar approached to Steve's pacing, except instead of pacing he just calmly looked all around. Like literally just stood there, looking around like he was memorizing the cage's features.

After look around for a long while he simply turned to Con.

"What do you have on you?" Wo asked Con. Con just stared at him. They had all watched them pull weapon after weapon off of him. It had been never ending.

Clearly he had nothing left.

"You watched them take everything off of him, Wo," Steve said noting that Wo Fat seemed intent on looking at the lock.

"I could probably pick it, if I had something sharp enough," he said absently. He picked up a small twig from the ground and then clearly went to work on it.

"I've got an idea," Danny said. "We've got three people in this cage that Rowan Pierce cares very greatly about. I'm not saying she wouldn't do it for us either, but if any of you three call for her she'll pop right in here and get us out."

"Okay, for starters, she's Rowan McGarrett now, she changed her name. You know that," Steve snapped. "And secondly. We are not pulling my wife into this situation."

Steve turned away from Danny, so he missed Danny pull a face, but he heard him when he clapped his hands together and said: "No you just don't want her to know you got captured."

"Yes, I would very much not like for her to know that," Steve said and then turned to Con. "You sure you don't have anything on you that we could use to pick a lock?"

"Yes, I'm positive. It's not like I walk around with lock picks, I didn't think I'd need them so I left them behind," Oh so he could do that? Steve figured Con just packed himself up with anything and everything he could use as a weapon. And yes he was certain Con could turn a set of lockpicks into a weapon. "And you watched them take all my weapons… you know, except for the swiss army knife in my shoe..."

All eyes turned to him. "You have a fucking knife?" Wo cried. "I'm trying to pick a lock with a fucking stick and you have a fucking knife?"

"Well I mean… yeah but it's mostly for luck and…"

"I can't believe they took a fucking armoury off of you and missed one!" Danny cried. But Con just took of his boot and pulled a knife from it.

"Half the prongs are missing," he says. "It just has like a nail file and a corkscrew."

"You don't even have the knife part?" Chin asked.

"Don't need a knife to be deadly," he said. "You ever stab someone with a corkscrew?" Chin shook his head. "You should try it, half the fun is the twisting."

Well… that was terrifying.

Con offered it out to Wo Fat who snatched it out of his hand. "You're ridiculous."

They all watched him get down on one knee to try to get a better angle on the lock. They figured he'd get it open right away, being a criminal and all but he was clearly struggling.

"So… the MSS trained you to pick locks?" Danny asked looking to Steve. "The US Navy didn't teach Steve that."

"Steve was trained as a SEAL, I was trained as a spy. Espionage means getting into locked places sometimes," Wo said as Steve shot a scowl at Danny. "Though lock picking was never really my forte."

Great, great, so they got the one spy who couldn't pick locks. Wonderful.

"Well, doesn't it look like you guys are having fun?" came a voice and when they looked up there was Rowan. She looked about as tactical as the girl could get. Black leggings, black tee shirt, black hairband to keep her hair back. "How's the men's trip guys? Going well? And don't worry I included you in that as well."

Wo Fat was on his feet in a second. "Rowan, what are you doing here? You said you'd stay back."

"Right. Yes, I did. So is that what you want me to do? You want me to leave you guys. You'll figure it out right?" she asked clearly being sarcastic. "Don't bother answering that, cause you'll be wrong."

"Open the door Rowan," Steve said. "We can argue when we're out."

"Mmmmm, no, I don't think I will," she said. "Cause you're supposed to be on light duties, and if you're in there that means you'll be probably moderately safer…"

"Rowan," he hissed but Wo Fat held up a hand.

"Fine, Steven and his friends can stay in the cage, let me out," he ordered.

"Wo!" Steve cried but was ignored.

"Mmmm…. No," she said and Wo Fat actually growled at her. "Yeah, cause you know… you said you wanted to do this without me…"

"That is not what I said!" Wo Fat snapped. "I said I'd rather not worry about you but now I'm going to worry about you now, so let me out!"

"Why? You're in there, everything's fine!"

"Yes, Rowan! I'm in here and you're out there and I'm worried. Let me out!" he said again but she shook her head.

"Nope, you chose the cage life…" "—Did you know this was going to happen?" Wo Fat interrupted. "Did you know we'd end up getting captured if we came without you?"

No. She wouldn't do that to them… would she?

"Yep!" Rowan said cheerfully. Oh my god she had done that to them. "Y'all took a helicopter, they saw you coming a mile away. It always ends in execution unless I'm here."

"That was a dick move!" Con cried but Rowan just shrugged.

"Y'all wanted to go without me…"

"Okay, you know what, just stop it. This isn't funny. It's not cute. Let us out, right now, so I can deal with the situation."

"How. You've got Con's fucking half broken swiss army knife, and no weapons. How are you going to deal with it, Wo?"

"I will get a weapon once I get out," he hissed.

"And my swiss army knife is deadly anyway…"

"Yes, yes, half the fun is twisting," Rowan said with a roll of her eyes.

"Okay great, now let us out."

"Mmmm… still gonna be a no."

"Rowan!" Wo snapped a little too loudly and then lowered his voice. "Rowan Hazel Pierce you let me out of this fucking cage right this second or I swear to god, I… I'll burn your fucking song book. I'll do it!"

"Uh… I'm Rowan Hazel McGarrett now… so…"

"Let us out or I'll make out with McGarrett!" Con threatened.

"Hey!" Steve cried. "Leave me out of it!"

"Ro, Ro, look, listen to me. You are out of your depth. I haven't done full recon. They're saying they mutinied and Shioma is dead…" "—That's a lie…" "Yes I figured, but I don't know where she is, or how many men there are or what kind of camp this is…"

"Well, they're not cooking anything if that's what you're wondering. They keep shipments here before sending them off. They have a bunch of crates with weapons…"

"Why didn't you tell me any of this before we left?" Steve asked. But Wo had a different question. "How long have you been here?"

"Bout half an hour," she said. "They haven't even noticed me, it's been a lot of fun."

Fun? Fun? His wife thought this shit was fun? Jesus Christ.

"Fuck this, give me the knife," Con said taking it from Wo and trying to pick at the lock.

"Goddamn it, Rowan…"

"Oh it's fine. I'm gonna go set a couple of fires, it'll be fine."

"No!" Both Con and Wo said together.

"Seriously! Why do all your plans include fire?" Wo Fat asked.

"Or crashing into things?" Con seconded.

Rowan just waved them off. "Oh calm down. I'm just gonna set a fire or two, make em think I'm a ghost and bam, we'll have chaos. Once I get the chaos going I'll get out guys out okay?"

"No. No. Rowan, not chaos, you know I hate chaos," Wo said. "Ro… I'm serious. Let me out Rowan."

"You guys just hold tight," she said already moving away.

"Rowan! Rowan! don't you leave me in this cage! Don't you set nothing on fire!" Wo Fat whispered screamed at her but Rowan was already walking away. "Rowan… Rowan… goddamn it she's gonna get herself killed."

Steve blinked his eyes, not sure what he just witnessed. Wo Fat and Conejo were constantly bragging about how better they were with Rowan. How they could manage her better than him. They had been saying it for years, but… they had been lying.

They had the same amount of control over Rowan that Steve did. Absolutely fucking no control.

"Wow… so… tell me again how you two manage her better?"

"We manage her better when we're physically with her," Con snapped still on his knees in the dirt trying to pick the lock.

There was a sort of fizzle and then a bunch of popping that sounded a lot like guns going off at once that was followed by cries of surprise.

Oh god she had started.

"Pick it faster!" Wo urged.

"Hey! I'm not the one with magic powers that fucking unlock things, now am I?" he snapped but Wo was not calming down. In the distance came the sound of a terrible whoosh and a whole bunch of screaming and everyone knew what that was. "Okay, okay, fuck this."

Con stood up went into his other boot and pulled out the smallest revolver they had ever seen. Like one of those old western pieces that ladies hid in their muffs.

"You had a fucking gun this whole time?" Danny cried.

"I forgot about it alright?" He then took aim at the lock and blew it off.

The before anything else could happen he handed Wo the gun. Wo got the lock off, the door open and then he was gone, with Con behind him.

"Wait a second, we don't have a plan!" Steve cried, except that didn't matter.

Wo and Con had a plan, and that was apparently, kill everything in their path. By the time Steve and the rest of the team were out of that cage, they had killed four people, and gotten better weapons. They then offered the left-over weapons to the team. Steve picked up a pistol just so he wouldn't feel naked.

There were also several fires set, so Shioma's men were already running around crazy trying to put them out. The crates that they had been trying to load onto smaller dinghies to take out to the trawler were left abandoned.

But it wasn't until the ran past the small team, completely ignoring everything around them, that Steve realized that their bad guys weren't running from the fires, they were being chased… by floating fucking corpses.

That's right, the corpses were fucking floating.

Con and Wo had stopped in their tracks to watch this and then Con turned to Wo with the most worried face he'd ever seen the assassin make and said: "This isn't that Kapu thing is it?"

"No… pretty sure this is Ro," Wo said. "Just not sure where she is right now."

Now that got Steve's attention. "I'm sorry did you say… Ro is… Is she… making those things…"

"Levitate? Yeah. The uh… the levitating thing is new," Wo said. "It started in Colombia, you know the second time we were down there. Figured Chin would have mentioned it."

Steve turned to Chin who just sort of shrugged. "I uh… I forgot."

"What the hell was she levitating in Colombia, Chin?" Steve cried and the man winced.

"Two cars. She levitated two cars and hurled them at the Diego's men."

"And you just forgot about it?!" Steve thundered.

"Okay, standard rules, headshots 50, body shots 25," Con said and everyone turned to him, noting that Wo Fat and him were now kneeling on the ground.

"Really? A game now?"

"Why not, she's basically got them running scared." Con said.

"I'm down to play," Kono said with a smile going to kneel beside Con, who offered her a fist bump.

Wo Fat was already shooting. "25, 25, 50, 25, 50…"

"Hey I didn't say go," Con cried turning back around to start shooting as well. And then he, Kono and Wo were all counting out their numbers.

Steve watched them shaking his head as the two of them picked off the men running scared around them. They hadn't even bothered to take cover either, like… who did that?

Steve watched a corpse throw itself after two men who were screaming bloody murder and then watched those two men get mowed down by Wo Fat, Con and Kono, well at least they were having fun.

Steve, however, wanted his wife.

"Ro?" he called and there was a pop and there she was, right in front of him. He glanced past her and saw a corpse go floating by chasing four men that the three people playing the shoot-em game took them down.

Her eyes were white with the void and he knew right away that he couldn't touch her, cause he was panicking and he didn't want to disrupt her.

"Ro, I'm not gonna lie, this is freaking me out."

"I'll be done soon."

A white mist came out of her mouth as she said it and he took a step back.

"They'll run out soon."

What the hell did that mean?

"I'm out," came from Con not seconds later, which was followed by Wo Fat and then Kono. Oh shit, out of bullets, that's what that meant.

"Incoming," Rowan said and that's when the men that were apparently laying low all converged.

Steve grabbed his wife immediately tugging her to the side and behind a tree, trusting that his team and his brothers-in-law would do it as well.

The void left her immediately, he felt that crackle as it left her. The corpses stopped floating, skidding through the dirt and the leaves once they hit the ground.

"Did you get her?" Wo Fat called from wherever he was hiding.

"Yes," Steve called back while Rowan tried to squirm out of his grasp. "Seriously? Where are you going? They're shooting at us!"

"Oh calm yourself, Duke is coming with four HPD helicopters," she snapped. "We need to go get Michelle."

"Whoa! Hold on! You didn't get Shioma?" Con cried from wherever he was hiding, probably behind the same tree Wo Fat was behind.

"No!" she called back. "But I know where she is."

Steve shook her head. No, no, his wife needed to stop helping. "Duke doesn't know where we are."

"Yes he does," she said with a curt nod. "Jerry told him, they're on the way."

But… that couldn't be right, because he had told Jerry specifically not to tell HPD, cause he didn't know if they had a spy in their ranks still or not.

But she was right, the sound of helicopter blades on the air, hit their ears. Jesus. She really did have so much information that she hadn't given them.

Fuck he hated it when she was petty.

They were going to have a talk about this when he got them home, oh yes they were.

"Go Steve," Rowan said, "Go help."

"You stay, if you want me to go, fine, but you have to stay here."

She nodded, and Steve moved away with his own weapon to drive the rest of the men onto the beach where the helicopters were converging.

When they got out onto the beach, he could see Duke himself in one of the helicopters waving down to him. The rest of Shioma's surviving men were all on their knees, knowing that they couldn't out shoot HPD and their helicopters.

But it wouldn't be until he turned back to go and get Rowan that he realized that her and her two brothers were gone.

Why was he even surprised?
