Chapter 414 Fiery Encounter

Specter Knight and Black Knight ran through the woods towards the sound of battle. The two knights reached a large clearing and were greeted by an odd sight. Up in the air above was a very odd and freaky looking creature called the Winter Windster. The Winter Windster was mostly blue in color. His head was extremely large in contrast to his body, which was very small and skinny. The Winter Windster had hair that was textured similarly to that of a vine-like plant, and dark red-violet nose.
The monster was currently surrounding itself in a light cloud of frozen air and raining down balls of freezing energy at what appeared to be two humans dodging about. One man went by the name Loke. Loke was a young man of average height, with delicate facial features and short orange hair, with spiky strands covering his forehead, and other, longer ones jutting upwards from the top of his head. He dressed in a green coat with a wide collar, complete with prominent, spiky, brownish-white fur trimming lining the hood, over a light red shirt bearing a menacing skull on the front, with its eyes being hidden by a pair of bands crossing its face, black pants and whitish sneakers, each adorned by a pair of light green stripes. The other person was a teenage boy named Viper. Viper had red eyes and long, spiky red hair, tied up in a ponytail. He wore a black jacket with gold highlights, and a white shirt underneath that. Viper also wore checkered cargo pants, black boots, and silver earrings.
Specter Knight and Black Knight watched Loke and Viper run and dodge Winter Windster's attack. Every now and then Viper would pull a strange looking sword out, but before he had a chance to do anything with it, he was forced to dodge another one of Winter Windster's attacks. It looked like Viper needed an opening to use his sword. Specter Knight and Black exchanged looks. The fight really had nothing to do with them or their quest, but if they helped the two men out they could get some good information about the Underground and maybe get some allies. The two knights readied their weapons and stepped into the clearing.
An hour earlier.
Loke and Viper were walking out of town and heading to the woods as they ate some sandwiches they bought at Grillby's.
"So what's the job we're going on today teach?" Asked Viper.
"Well I just got word from the captain that there's been a lot of monsters getting frozen in ice around lately. It doesn't appear to be natural and it looks some of the monsters were either trying to fight or run away from something. There's also been reports of Mr. Dark and his sidekick Dark Corvo have been spotted in the area. The captain wants us to check it out and if it turns out that Mr. Dark is behind the freezing then our orders are to take him out." Said Loke.
"Oh I'm down with that. I'm going to enjoy torching those creeps!" Said Viper as he pumped his fist in the air.
"Let's hope that we can put an end to Mr. Dark this time. I don't want him to escape from us again and put with being criticized by Luminous and his Legion of Light." Said Loke.
"Why the heck do we even put up with those jerks? Everyone in the Underground knows the Legion of Light are a group of crazies, who worship the Radiance and want to release her onto the world. We should just lay the smackdown on them and be done with it." Said Viper.
"I understand how you feel Viper, but we can't simply just do away with the Legion of Light." Said Loke.
"Why not?" Asked Viper.
"Well for starters they haven't actually done anything wrong. Luminous talks about freeing the Radiance, but he has no clue where the Hollow Knight is, so he can't free her. The captain and the vice captain are keeping a close eye on the Legion of Light to make sure that doesn't happen. Secondly they help deal with Spirit and the various forces allied with her. The Royal Guards simply don't have the numbers to directly deal with Spirit's forces." Said Loke.
"I hate it when you make a good point." Said Viper.
The two carried on walking through the woods. Loke took the time to think about his life and how he ended up in the Underground and later as a member of the the Royal Guards.
It had been a few years ago, when Loke had lived in Ooo and tragedy struck. A woman close to Loke had died and it had been his fault! Loke had fled to Mt. Ebott in shame and had ended up falling into a cave. He found himself in the Underground, where he encountered several monsters and various other strange creatures. Loke fought and defeated several monsters a good sum of them were Spirit's underlings. He fought and he fought, until he encountered the captain of the Royal Guards, Undyne and the vice captain, Quote. Loke battled the two officers and at one point he thought he was going to meet his end at the end of one of Undyne's spears, but she stopped in mid-attack. This confused Loke, who asked what was going on. Undyne simply said she wanted to test Loke's fighting skills. She was fairly impressed and asked Loke to join the Royal Guards. Loke was at first hesitant, but he realized that he could atone for his past failure and so he joined the Royal Guards.
Loke helped the Royal Guards take down several of Spirit's underlings as well as various other threats to the Underground. He enjoyed his time with the Royal Guards and his time with them allowed him to protect and save various monsters and inhabitants of the Underground. Despite all his heroic deeds, Loke still felt a great deal of shame and guilt over his past.
One day, Undyne approached Loke, with Viper in tow. According to Undyne, Viper was a recent arrival in the Underground, who came out through one of the multiverse rifts created by Spirit. Viper had been causing trouble in Waterfall, until Undyne showed up and bested him in combat. Undyne saw potential in Viper and thought he would make a great recruit for the Royal Guards. She thought Loke would be the best teacher for Viper, so she partnered them together. At first Loke and Viper didn't get along due to their personality differences. Loke was calm and coolheaded in situations, while Viper was wrathful and hotheaded, but after a few missions together the two started to form a strong bond. Viper became less hotheaded and greatly trusted Loke. Loke became responsible and a good mentor.
Back with the mission, Loke and Viper continued walking through the forest, until Loke spotted some purple feathers on the ground up ahead and went to go investigate them. The feathers were larger then any normal bird feathers and Loke recognized them as belonging to Mr. Dark's crow flunky Dark Corvo. They were on the right trail. Loke and Viper continued on finding a few more feathers, until they reached a large clearing and found Mr. Dark and Black Corvo talking with Winter Windster.
Mr. Dark was a tall figure whose features were hidden beneath a shadowy cloak and hat. He wore white gloves that appeared to be floating and blue shoes and beneath the hat were glowing yellow eyes. Dark Corvo was a purple crow, with red markings and a golden shard on his face that connected to his gray beak. He wore a white undershirt, with a golden. Dark Corvo wore a black and green robe, with sleeves that had numerous green swirls and lines, and a yellow crescent moon symbol in the middle. He carried a spear with the same moon symbol in the lower middle. Dark Corvo had a small, purple tail that consisted of three feathers and he had leather straps that cover his feet, but not the toes and claws.
"Hold it right there Mr. Dark!" Yelled Loke making the three villains turn to face him and Viper.
"Ah if isn't Loke and his little sidekick, so good to see you two again." Said Mr. Dark.
"Can it creep!" Said Viper.
"We know you're behind all the recent frozen monsters, now tell us why you did it." Said Loke.
"We went around attempting to recruit some new servants into the glorious army of the Shadow Queen, but everyone we asked said no." Said Mr. Dark.
"So we had our good friend Winter Windster freeze and make an example out of them. That'll show everyone how dangerous and serious we are." Said Dark Corvo.
"You heartless monsters!" Said Viper"
"You're going down!" Said Loke.
"Oh we'd love to play, but we have other matters to attend to. Don't worry Winter Windster will show you a good time." Said Mr. Dark before he snapped his fingers.
Winter Windster flew into the air and began to blast balls of freezing at Loke and Viper forcing them to run around and dodge. Mr. Dark and Dark Corvo watched the fight for a few minutes and then they turned and headed into the woods. Loke and Viper tried to go after the villains, but Winter Windster just kept spamming attacks at them, that prevented the two men from going after their targets. Viper kept trying to pull out his weapon to unleash his powers, but Winter Windster wouldn't let him.
It looked like it was a hopeless battle, until Specter Knight and Black Knight joined in and intervened. Specter Knight threw his scythe through the air slicing through several ice blasts and destroyed them and Black Knight fired a purple energy blast from his shovel that struck Winter Windster and sent him tumbling through the air. Viper took this opportunity to pull out his sword and active his powers. There was a flash of light and Viper's appearance changed. Viper now had black eyes with red irises, and his hair was a much brighter orange. He wore red and black armor with white highlights, white gloves and a single red horn-like spike on his forehead.
"Oh yeah! I'm all fired up now!" Said Viper with a grin.
Winter Windster recovered from Black Knight's attack and fired several more blasts of freezing energy at the people down below. Viper just smirked as he fired some fiery blast of energy from some blasters mounted on his wrists. The two attacks collided and exploded in a bright flash of light. Viper fired another burst of fire at the ground propelling himself up in the air at Winter Windster. Winter Windster saw Viper coming and fired a blast of freezing blast of air at him. Ice began to form on Viper's body as he got closer and closer to Winter Windster.
"Viper!" Cried Loke in concern.
It seemed like Viper's body was going to freeze over, but then his glowed brightly with fire and the ice just melted away. Winter Windster's eyes went wide in alarm as Viper reached him.
"Sorry to tell you this pal, but in a battle between fire and ice, fire always win!" Said Viper before delivering a powerful punch to Winter Windster's face.
Winter Windster crashed to the ground with a thunderous thud. Viper landed on the ground near Winter Windster and saw that the monster was out cold. He looked over at Loke and gave a thumbs up. Loke smiled and returned the thumbs up. Viper returned to his normal form and he and Loke turned their attention to Specter Knight and Black Knight.
"Thank you two for helping us." Said Loke.
"It was no trouble." Black Knight.
"So who exactly are you two?" Asked Viper.
"I am Black Knight and this is my companion Specter Knight. We are part of a exploration team on a quest." Said Black Knight.
"A quest. Well since you helped us out, allow us to return the favor. Tell us about your quest and maybe we can help." Said Loke.
"We are looking for magical items of power. Do you know a good place we can search?" Said Black Knight.
"I would search Hotland if I was you. There are many ruins and hidden places there." Said Loke.
"Will be sure to give that place a look. Thank you." Said Black Knight before he and Specter Knight turned and left the clearing.
Loke and Viper grabbed the unconscious Winter Windster and headed back to town as they thought about the beating they planned to give to Mr. Dark and Dark Corvo next time they met.
