Piney and Lord Prickles

Aggie helped Poppy carry some boxes as the pop queen said, "Aggie, thank you so much for helping me with these! Now that Branch helped me build that organization shelf, I can store all my scrapbook supplies there and not have to use so many boxes." Aggie smiled as she said, "No problem, Poppy. you know me; I'm always ready to help my friends." Suddenly, Poppy noticed something as she said, "Wait! Look"! Aggie turned her head and saw Val and Melody enter the lost and found building as Aggie asked, "What are they looking for"? Poppy replied, "I don't know, but we should go ask them in case they need help." Poppy and Aggie placed the boxes they were carrying and went over to the lost and found building, walking inside to find Melody and Val sifting through the container. While looking, Val said to Melody, "No! No! No! I can't find it anywhere, Melly," as Melody replied, "It has to be somewhere! Keep looking"! In curiosity, Aggie spoke up, asking, "Uh, Val, Melody, did you both lose something"? Both rock cousins brought their heads up as Val frantically replied, "What? No, no, I didn't." At the same time, Melody commented, "Actually, we are looking for something private to Val, and I'm helping her look for it." Val gave a mini glare at her younger cousin as Melody had her hands up, saying, "What did you expect, Val? You know I can never lie to Aggie! She's my best friend"! Val rolled her eyes as she answered, "Yeah, but I'm your older cousin, and cousins have higher power over best friends! Sorry to use the authority card and lecture tone of voice, but it's true." Val then blushed and looked down in shame and guilt as Melody smiled, saying while swinging a gentle arm over Val, "It's ok, Val. You're frantic about the situation. I'm pretty sure I would've responded the same way." Poppy then asked, "If you really did lose something, Val, we can help you look for it." Aggie nodded and replied, "Yeah, that's what friends are for, and we are friends, right"? Val looked up at Aggie and Poppy before replying, "Yeah, we are. Ok, the truth is, I lost...my snuggle toy." Aggie and Poppy's eyes widened in awe as Poppy said in her cutest voice, "Your snuggle toy"?

Val nodded and blushed in embarrassment as Aggie flew over to her, saying, "Val, it's ok. We all have a favorite snuggle toy. You remember how attached I am to my stuffed penguin Pengy." Melody added, "Yeah, and you of all trolls know how deeply attached I was to Grenda before I passed her along to Evie." Poppy was close to breaking into a deafening squeal but kept it in as she cleared her throat and said, "Excuse me a moment," before running out of the lost and found, squealing loudly outside. Soon, Poppy walked back inside as she stated, "Please tell me more." Val walked towards the window while saying, "I found my snuggle toy a long time ago, back when Melly was only a baby. Some might say it was by accident, but I know in my heart...it was fate that we met." Melody smiled and pulled out a picture from her pocket, showing it to Poppy and Aggie as she said, "It happened when Val was around this age." Poppy and Aggie both thought the picture was adorable as they said, "Aw," in unison. In the picture, it showed Val when she was little, and she was adorable! She still had her signature pigtails, though they were a lot smaller back then, and she still had that special leg warmer and signature purple skirt. However, she was also wearing a black leg warmer on her other leg that had a broken heart on it, and her crop top had long fishnet sleeves that covered her arms. Val's blush grew as she nervously asked, "Melly, where did you get that"?! Melody smiled and replied, "Dad gave it to me when we were looking through old photo albums together. You got to admit; you were pretty cute when you were little, Val." Val, despite blushing a deep shade of red, smiled as she said, "True that. Anyways, I found my snuggle toy when I was just a little rocker."

Flashback to many years ago...

"I was walking home after my first mosh party, which was epic, by the way."

A young Val Thundershock was making rock music sounds with her mouth and pointing everywhere as she strolled through a lava-themed forest path. She then slid on her knees and shouted, "I'm a mosh prodigy," while chuckling.

"But, along the way, I got lost...really lost. I was all alone, scared, and had no one around to help me."

Young Val then realized that she was by herself as she quickly stood up and became nervous, saying, "Hello," while her voice echoed throughout the forest. Hours passed as night soon fell, leaving little Val lying on the ground, cold, shaking in fear, scared, and alone.

"But then, I saw him, lying on the ground, just as lost as I was."

Suddenly, little Val saw something glowing under a pile of leaves as the wind blew them away, revealing a yellow stuffed teddy bear resting against a pinecone. Val thought it was so adorable and walked up to it, tossing the bear aside before picking p the pinecone and hugging it close to her.

And I knew right then and there. We were meant to be together."

End of flashback...

After listening to her story, Poppy spoke up, asking, "Woah, hold on. Your snuggle toy...is a pinecone"? Melody shrugged and answered, "It's true, though a snuggle toy can be just about anything if you cherish it so much. You should see what Sid's snuggle toy is: a rubber duck. I know it sounds weird, but he loves it...so I guess that makes it his snuggle toy." Val then said, "And it's not just a pinecone. It's a beautiful pinecone with an even better soul. And now, my life feels empty without...Piney." Val then pulled out a piece of paper, a drawing of Piney, a pinecone with a black top hat, whose strap was ripped halfway in the middle. Aggie and Poppy were close to crying tears of sadness as the plucky MMT said, "Excuse us a minute," before she and Poppy ran out and squealed in joy together. Melody and Val watched this occur in confusion before Poppy, and Aggie re-entered the building, with Aggie declaring, "Don't you worry, Val. We're going to help you find Piney, and we won't rest until that pinecone is back and safely in your arms again"! Poppy added, "Yeah, Aggie is right. We'll do whatever it takes to help you find Coney." Melody corrected Poppy by saying, "Uh, it's Piney," which made Poppy realize her mistake and repeat, "Piney." Poppy then said, "Our first step will be to turn this into a missing snuggle toy sign and post these all over Trollstopia." Poppy grabbed the picture and quickly drew on it, adding Missing on top, Pinecone on the bottom, and four arrows on each corner, pointing at the pinecone. Val freaked out and grabbed the picture, saying, "No, no, no, no, no," before hiding it in her hair, adding, "Not one soul in Trollstopia can know that that sweet little seed pod is mine! It's embarrassing"! Aggie then asked, "How come? It's adorable"! Val then replied, "Exactly, Aggie! It's embarrassing because it's adorable! You know how I am: nice, but tough, hardcore, reckless. If other trolls saw that I cared about something as cute and adorable as Piney, I shudder at what could happen. Laughing, teasing, or worse, laughing and teasing. And besides. You know how I am about sharing personal matters. I already made Melly swore secrecy about this mission."

Melody then commented, "To be fair, anything that's related to your personal side, you make me swear secrecy to unless severe matters require telling someone." Val then stated, "I'm serious, Popsqueak and Aggie. It's up to us four to find him, no one else! And Aggie, I mean it on no one else, so you can't tell your relatives or your fiancee! Promise me you won't say a word of this to anyone else! Understood, both of you"? Poppy and Aggie looked at one another before they made an x-motion over their chests while saying in unison, "Cross my heart and hope to dye...my hair...beige"! Melody screamed in terror from hearing that as she then fainted, landing on the floor while scattering a couple of boxes, as Val cringed slightly while commenting, "Oh, I should've told you guys to make that promise outside so she wouldn't have had to hear you say that." After waking up Melody a few minutes later, all four girls were outside, ready to begin their search. Poppy brought over a pack of bloodhound bugs that were barking up a storm as she explained, "See? These bloodhound bugs are the most elite tracking critters in all of Trollstopia. Once they get a scent, they'll go to the ends of the Earth to track it down." Aggie petted one of them as she said, "Wow, Poppy! Where did you get these," as the pop queen answered, "Milton Moss lent them to me. I'm pulling out all the stops to help Val find Piney. Now, watch and observe, ladies." She pulled out a tiny black hat while saying, "Here, I hold Piney's hat. Now, watch as these bloodhound bugs sniff it to collect its scent." Piney showed the critters the hat as they all crowded around to sniff it before Poppy let them go, allowing the critters to start tracking the scent. Poppy smiled as she said, "See? Nothing will stop them from finding the source of that scent, aka, Piney." Suddenly, Demo appeared from behind a mushroom, screaming, "Puppies," as the bloodhound bugs soon ran to Demo and tackled him, covering his face with many licks, while Aggie commented, "Except maybe that.

Demo seemed to enjoy it as he then got on his legs and hands and started to run as if he had four legs while the critters followed him, much to everyone's confusion. After Demo and the bloodhound critters disappeared, Melody then snapped her fingers, saying, "Well, when I need to find something I lost, I try to think back to what I was doing the moment before I lost the item. What were you doing with Piney before you saw he was missing, Val"? Val thought for a minute before saying, "Hm...I know! I was practicing a new guitar solo on the stage, and to keep Piney safe, I hid him in the compartment on the bottom of the stage"! At Rock Hollow, Val was Looking in the compartments under the stage but couldn't find any sign of Piney as she sighed, saying, "Not here either." Aggie then suggested, "Sometimes, the thing you're searching for can be in the last place you expect to look. Where in Trollstopia would one not expect to find a lost item"? The group took a moment to think before Poppy smiled, saying, "I know exactly where to look," before whistling very loudly. The Dune Huggy soon appeared in front of them as all four girls hopped in, with Poppy driving, and soon raced off somewhere. Over at Bergen Town, inside the castle, the trolls looked under Gristle's big toe as Melody asked in disgust, "Why did you think it'd be under his toe"? Poppy answered, "A lot of stuff surprisingly ends up here, so it couldn't hurt to check." Poppy looked closely before saying as she lowered the big tow back down, "Nope. Not under here either. Thanks, Gristle," as Poppy thanked the young Bergen king, who was asleep and snoring on his throne. As Aggie, Poppy, and Melody started to leave, Val, in confusion, looked up at Gristle before facing the fourth wall and shouting, "Who the hair is this," which made Melody shout back, "I'll tell you on the way home"! Back in Trollstopia, Val was laying sideways on Poppy's bed, hugging her knees, and looked distraught as she solemnly stated, "It's hopeless. I'm never going to find Piney. My heart feels like a bottomless void of eternal darkness, and not in a cool way"! Val then sat up and covered her face, hiding the tears flowing from her eyes as she broke into a soft sob. Melody sat next to Val and hugged her while saying, "Val, it's going to be ok. We're not giving up! I'm sure Piney will turn up somewhere"!

Aggie added, "Yeah, Val. We're not going to stop searching until that pinecone is brought home." Val slowly uncovered her face and wiped away her tears as she sniffled before commenting, "But, it might take forever! And even so, what am I going to snuggle with until Piney is found"? Poppy then got a great idea as she ran to grab something before returning, carrying a huge toy trunk in her hair, before stating, "Maybe we can get you a new snuggle toy that can be your replacement Piney until we find the real one. The toys I have in here helped me get through many hard times when I was a little troll. Maybe one of them will help you feel better too." When Poppy opened the trunk, a flood of stuffed animals fell out, enveloping Aggie, Poppy, Val, and Melody. Aggie flew out from the pile and hovered over it, commenting, "Wow, Poppy! You sure have a lot of snuggle toys," as Val and Melody climbed out and pushed themselves up to sit on top of the pile of toys. Poppy then brought over a bright yellow scrapbook while saying as she took her seat next to Val and Melody, "I made a personality profile for each toy, and maybe, one of them will make a great match for you. If there's a toy in here that doesn't;t seem to fit you, toss it to the side." Val stills seemed a bit hesitant as she said, "I don't know, Popsqueak. None of them seem like they'll be a good substitute for Piney." Aggie placed a reassuring hand on Val's shoulder while saying, "Give it a try, Val. Who knows? you might find something you'll like." Val then sighed and said, "Ok, I guess I'll give it a shot." Val then put her hand into the pile and fished through the toys before pulling out a colorful fish, as Poppy explained while turning a page in the book, "Oh! That's Fishley! He enjoys long swims by the beach and blowing bubbles with friends"! Aggie giggled as she commented, "Sounds like my kind of fish. He knows what's up." however, Val disliked it as she said, "Toss," while tossing the fish toy to the side. Melody then sifted through the pile and pulled out a red wolf that had black beady eyes and a blue collar with a golden bone tag as Poppy said, turning another page, "Ah! Alfie, he's a sweet one! He loves to run, cuddle with friends, listen to music, and hang out with people." Val looked at it before saying, "Not bad, but toss."

Melody then said, "Wait! Poppy...can I keep it? I haven't had a snuggle toy in a while since I gave Grenda to Evie. And Alfie...he seems to get me," as she looked at the wolf toy with a gaze of admiration/love. Poppy nodded and said, "Of course, Melody! I haven't snuggled with Alfie in a long time. He's all yours"! Melody had a huge smile on her face as she hugged Alfie, saying, "He's so sweet"! Val then continued to look through the pile of toys but couldn't seem to find the right toy that spoke to her. In frustration, Val stated, "Let's face it! None of them seem to-," before her hand brushed up against something peculiar. Val fished through the pile and pulled out a blue porcupine that had dark blue spikes. Val looked at it as in her mind...it reminded her so much, like Piney, despite being so different. Val kept looking at the porcupine plush with a look of admiration before saying, "This...is the one." Poppy, in confusion, asked, "Lord Prickles? But he isn't like Piney." Aggie looked at the toy before saying, "Wait, isn't that toy-," before Val interrupted by saying, "No, he's not...and yet...they have the same soul," as she placed the black hat on top of the porcupine's tallest spike, before hugging it. Val then looked at Aggie and Poppy before saying, "Popsqueak...Aggie...I can't ever thank you enough for this. You know...asking for help is...really hard for me...and it's not something I do willingly. But..I'm so glad you both pushed me to do it. So...thank you for being such great friends." Then, Val did something Melody was not expecting: Val leaned over and hugged both Poppy and Aggie, and it was full of emotion and sincerity, much like the hugs she gives her whenever they are both alone in Rock Hollow. Aggie's eyes wallowed up with happy tears while Poppy let out a soft happy squeal. Soon, Val hopped down and started to playfully toss Lord Prickles up into the air before she ran off to play with it as Poppy watched in happiness.

Later on, Aggie was having lunch with Stereo as both girls were chatting away, having a lot of fun. Aggie also showed Stereo her favorite snuggle toy: Pengy the penguin, a regular penguin plush but had a heart locket around its neck. Stereo looked at it as she said, "Wow! That sure is a cute little penguin you have, Aggie"! Aggie smiled and hugged it as she said, "Thanks, Stereo. Pengy and I have been together for quite a while. In fact, we are bonded for life." Soon, Melody came over, holding Alfie, as she sat next to Aggie, saying, "Hey, ladies! How's it going"? Stereo smiled, replying, "We're doing *imitates air horn noises*! I'm just spending time with my favorite future sister-in-law, who is showing me her snuggle toy." Aggie then pulled out her staff while saying, "Yeah, I'm not using Pengy to do magic for me," as she zapped the toy and brought it onto her lap. she then said, "Pengy's got better things to do, like this," as she tickled Pengy in his tickle spot, earning what sounded like a chirping giggle from it. Melody thought Pengy looked adorable as she commented, "Oh, what a sweetie! Where did you get him"? Aggie chuckled and replied, "Get? Oh, I didn't get Pengy. I made him from the enchanted materials back home that we use to make snuggle toys. He's my special snuggle toy, and as I was telling Stereo, We're bonded for life. And if anyone tried to hurt him, I will not be afraid to annihilate them"! Stereo then noticed the locket on Pengy as she asked, "Hey, what's that"? Aggie answered, "That's his locket, and it helps let other trolls know that he belongs to me. Every snuggle toy back in Harmonious Land has one. I use my hair to help access if I want him to be alive or a regular snuggle toy." Melody hugged Alfie as she said, "That's amazing"! Suddenly, Aggie felt a vision coming as in her mind. She saw Poppy looking through a window in the middle of a rainstorm. The pouring rain made her hair, which was normally up, now escalade down her back, and was soaking wet. Poppy's eyes seemed to water with sad tears as she said, well, actually sang, "I guess it's time to say...goodbye." After Aggie's vision ended, Aggie shook her head before saying, "That...was strange." Stereo asked, "What happened? Did you have a vision"?

Aggie nodded as she answered, "Yep, and this one...was kind of odd." Out of the blue, Smidge passed the group and said, "Hi, ladies," as the trio said hello to Smidge right back. Smidge was on her way to Poppy's pod and hopped inside as she said, "Hey, Poppy. I'm heading to the Fun Dungeon. You wanna-," before she saw and gasped at a horrendous sight. Poppy was lying sideways on her bed, hugging her knees, and looked very distraught. Smidge asked in concern, "Oh my guh! What happened to you"?! Poppy solemnly stated, "Lord Prickles...is gone." Smidge became shocked as she replied, "Oh my guh! Did you look under Gristle's big toe," Poppy replied, "No, I know exactly where he is. I gave him to a friend in need." Smidge then mentioned, "Yeah, but Poppy, Lord Prickles is...is..," before Poppy cut her off, saying, "My number one, most beloved snuggle toy, now and forever? Yeah. He wasn't even supposed to be one of the choices but was stuck in a pile by accident. And now...he's gone" Smidge didn't know how to respond to that. She picked up Fishley while saying, "Well, you still have Fishley. He's just as good." However, Poppy glared at smidge as she exclaimed, "I'm going to pretend you didn't just say that"! Smidge slowly lowered the toy while saying, "Yeah. But then, tell your friend it was a mistake and ask for Lord Prickles back." Poppy then stood up, saying, "I can't, Smidge. She really needs this. For the time being, I'll just...have to get by...without him." Later on that night, a storm brewed over Trollstopia as Aggie and Melody walked home after visiting Classical Crest. Both trolls were holding umbrellas to keep them dry when Melody noticed something on top of a branch, saying, "Hey, Aggs. Isn't that Poppy"? Aggie looked up and gasped, seeing Poppy looked through the window of a nearby pod in the rain, and her hair was down and soaking wet, just like in her vision. Aggie commented, "Mel, that's where Poppy was standing my vision," as Melody then stated, "But I thought you said in your vision, Poppy sang, "I guess it's time to say goodbye." She isn't singing right now"!

At that moment, both trolls saw Dante practicing piano under a huge umbrella, and he seemed to be playing a somber tune. At the sound of the music playing, Aggie and Melody looked up and listened to hear if Poppy would sing. As for the sad pop queen, she was watching Val play with Lord Prickles, missing her snuggle toy so much.

Aggie: That was my vision!

Melody: Seriously?!

Poppy: But I'll turn my head so you won't have to see me cry.

Poppy, depressed, soaked, and cold, started to walk away as a confused Val looked on, wondering what made Poppy so sad. Meanwhile, Aggie and Melody felt bad for Poppy as Aggie said, "Poor Poppy...what could've made her so sad"? Melody looked and saw Poppy looking at Val and Lord Prickles before getting an idea, commenting, "I think I might know what." The next day, Poppy was solemnly walking to her pod when she saw on the ground, in front of the entrance, was Lord Prickles. She smiled and ran towards it, hugging it while saying, "Oh, how I missed you so much! Val must've found Piney and brought you back"! Suddenly, she felt the toy...squirming? Poppy snapped out of it and realized that she was hugging Demo this whole time as the rock troll nervously backed away and ran as the bloodhound bugs chased after it. Then, Poppy turned around when she heard Melody's voice say, "I told you, Aggie." When she saw both Melody and Aggie standing there, Aggie came forward, asking, "You miss Lord Prickles, don't you"? Poppy nodded and replied, "I...I really do. He's my special snuggle toy, almost like a best friend to me. Without him...I feel so empty." Melody then said, "Why don't you tell Val that? I'm sure she'll understand." Poppy shook her head before saying, "No way! As much as it hurts me to see Lord Prickle with her, Val needs him more than I do." Aggie then commented, "Val might need it, but it looks like you need it a lot more, Poppy. And you know Mel and I are right, right"? Poppy sighed and nodded her head as Melody smiled, soon saying, "You got that, Val"? Poppy's jaw soon dropped when she saw Val stepped forward in between Aggie and Melody as Poppy stammered, unable to say a clear sentence, before she turned around, hiding her face with her hair. Val sighed before saying, "Popsqueak, look, you know I'm no good at talking about my feelings, but...to make a friendship work, you can't always be the one looking out for me. You have to let me look out for you too. Otherwise...we lack a relational foundation of trust and mutual respect." Melody's jaw dropped from hearing his older cousin say that as Val continued with, "It's like what you and Aggie said. Friends help friends out, and we are friends, right Poppy"? Poppy slowly moved her hair out of her face as she nodded, replying while wiping away a stray tear, "Yeah, we are."

Val then smiled as she said, "So, go ahead. Say it. I know you want to. But before you do, let me ask the question...Poppy, what's wrong"? Poppy shuffled her feet and fiddled with her fingers as she slowly started to say, "Well...I...I," before tearfully stating, "I really miss Lord Prickles"! Val smiled as she replied, "Yeah, I figured, and Melody telling me about how you were feeling confirmed it." Val then took the plush porcupine out of her hair and removed the tiny top hat before giving it to Poppy, who hugged it close to her. Then, Poppy realized that now she had her toy back...Val was missing a snuggle toy again, as she tearfully commented, "Aw, but now you don't have a snuggle toy"! Val had her hands up while saying, "It's ok. Since asking for help seemed to work out really well... I think...it might produce a better result if I ask all of my friends for help." Later on, Val went to hang up her poster as the bloodhound bugs passed by again, with Demo chasing them. He then saw the poster and came over, saying, "Hey, is that pinecone yours"? When Val nodded, he pulled out a pinecone that was full of wooden drumsticks as he stated, "I was using it as a drumstick holder." Val squealed in joy, grabbed Piney, shook the drumsticks off him, and placed the top hat on its tip. She then hugged it close as Poppy pulled out Lord Prickles and hugged it too. Aggie and Melody watched on as they pulled out Alfie and Pengy, hugging their respective toys close to their chest, before Smidge came up to them, holding Fishley, as she said, "Room for one more"? Everyone nodded, allowing Smidge to smile as she hugged Fishley before all five trolls started to jump around, playing, tossing, and cherishing their favorite snuggle toys under the rays of the setting sun.
