Tadashi watched the slow rise and fall of Tsukishima's chest. Every time Tsukishima's breath caught, Tadashi braced himself to scream for Recovery Man. After a few seconds, he'd breathe in again, and Tadashi would calm down.
There were so many times when Tsukishima almost died because of his own quirk. Each time he would use it and pass out like this, Tadashi worried that it would be his last time. No one knew this except Tadashi, but Tsukishima was extremely reckless. He would stop caring about his own well being to save another. Of course, that was a main trait of being a hero, but Tadashi didn't care. He didn't want to lose his...his…
"Ugh," he heard a groggy voice groan next to him, "why."
"Good morning, Tsukki," Tadashi joked.
Tsukishima opened his eyes a crack. "How long was I out?"
"Only a couple of hours today," Tadashi answered. "You're getting better."
Tsukishima rolled his eyes. "Don't tell Oikawa that. He'll see it as an opportunity to hold it over my head."
Tadashi nodded. "Hey, Tsukki?"
"Yes, Tadashi?"
Tadashi's face flushed. "Try not to do that again, okay?" He bit his lip. "You really scared me."
Tsukishima sighed, sitting up on his cot. "You know, you're always worrying about me. You should worry about yourself."
"But," Tadashi corrected, "if you're worrying about everyone else, there's no one to worry about you. And besides," the freckled boy blushed, "you're always looking out for me."
"Just kiss already," a high pitched voice said behind Tadashi.
The nervous boy turned around to see a smirking Nishinoya and Tanaka. "What do you mean?" Tadashi spluttered. "Tsukki's just a friend, I wouldn't-"
"Whatever," Tsukishima sighed.
"What?"
"I said 'whatever'. They can think whatever they want," the blond boy muttered. Tadashi swore he could see the slightest bit of red on his cheeks.
Tanaka laughed louder than a lion's roar. "He didn't deny it!"
"He didn't confirm it, either," Tsukishima warned.
Tadashi felt inexplicably disappointed about Tsukishima's correction. It was as if he wouldn't even consider dating him. It wasn't like Tadashi cared or anything. He's totally...totally not into his best friend. It wasn't like he thought of him at every moment of the day. He definitely didn't want to tell him about everything in his life. He never even had the passing thought about cuddling him.
"Oh, crap," Tadashi mumbled. He was in love with his best friend.
"What?" Tsukishima interrupted Tadashi's thoughts. "Is something the matter?"
"Oh, no, Tsukki, nothing's wrong," Tadashi said, stumbling over his words. "I was just deep in lo- in thought, and I just realized something. Nothing important."
Nothing important, he thought. The thought repeated itself, again and again. His hands shook. Nothing important.
