Chapter 33

She wasn't on sick leave. But she wasn't coming to work. She wasn't on vacation leave as well. She didn't work with us at all this week and we heard nothing from her on the group. There was little to none coordination for our operations and Erza would just call us to her office when she announced our times that we would be working.
I raise a brow as I swirl the coffee in my cup. "Erza told me something completely crazy when we worked together last Friday." I do not even bother looking to my friend as I continue to swirl the coffee but he almost seemed pressed as he spoke.
"Anything Erza says always seem to be crazy." Jellal states as he takes a sip from his coffee and I have to admit that he has a valid point on that one.
"I have no idea how you worked the whole night with her." Zeref says as he pulls out his phone and looks to the screen. The rest of the group laughs and Laxus just shakes his head from side to side..
"Seriously Erza gets on my nerves. 'Hibiki the 13 is wrong.' 'Hibiki you spelled the suspects name wrong.' 'Hibiki your late.'" Constable Lates imitates Erza's voice and we all laugh at him this time even harder. "I miss Lucy, she is always so chill and always gives us sweets or something to drink." At this we all chuckle again because it was true.
"What did Erza say this time?" Gray asks completely derailing the conversation or was he just moving it into the direction which it was before we all started to note that we miss Lucy, Gray looks to the young waitress who gives him his coffee and gives her a curt nod.
"She said that apparently Levi was spreading the word that we have something between us." At this I almost choke as I look to Laxus who has a serious expression on his face.
"What!?" Jellal asks as we all look to Laxus in complete surprise.
"But aren't you and Lucy?" the words leaves Grays mouth before he even thinks what he's saying. "I mean…" Gray trails off scratching the top of his head as he looks to his cup.
"Yeah aren't you trying to 'court' her?" Zeref ask and for a moment I sit back as I look to Laxus as he nervously looks around. Why was he nervous? And how the fuck did Zeref even know about this? He hasn't even been with us long enough to know the in's and out's of the group.
"I haven't gotten up the nerve to ask her out. And now with the shit Erza said that Levi is saying, it will fucking blow up in my face. Erza said that Levi is telling people that I'm like a love sick puppy after a big bone with her." Laxus says and I just shake my head because that was complete and utter bullshit.
"Do you honestly believe anyone would believe Levi?" I ask and then everyone looks to me. "Laxus, your record at the station is completely clean, and we know you only tried to help her out of a sticky situation with her ex boyfriend. Besides Lucy won't believe her. No one does." I say and at this Laxus' eyes meet mine. Yes I was lusting after the girl he was in love with but still he was my friend and I would support him and I would not stand for these absurd allegations that is being throwing around.
"Like Lucy would believe rumours." Zeref states with a smile.
"Lucy is a great girl she wouldn't believe rumours." Gray states and at this I nod my head but I also know how extra Erza could be when she spoke. I remember some time ago when she said Lucy was dripping like a coffee maker for me. I nod my head with a smile.
"Is she okay?" Hibiki asks as we look up.
"I think she will be back by Wednesday." Zeref says and at this I look to the younger male sitting to my side.
"What's wrong with her?" Jellal asks and I look back down at my coffee. Did Zeref know something we didn't? And how the fuck did he know and we didn't?
"Oh… I don't know. When I messaged her she just said she would be back soon." Zeref says and at this Laxus furrows his brow.
"Let's call her." Before I can even protest or say something Laxus pulls put his phone and dials her number. As soon as it starts to ring he places the phone side up on the table and places it on speaker phone.
"Hey Lax." Her voice carries over the small space between the six of us and I smile.
"Hello Miss Heartfelia, this is the sector co-ordinators and crime prevent unit and we wish to commute with our lovely miss Heartfelia." At this Gray laughs and we can hear Lucy giggle on the other side.
"Oh, hello sector co-ordinators and crime prevention! To what do I owe the pleasure of this call?" she asks and I can tell she is blushing, she even sounds shy.
"Well, we haven't seen you in a while and we were wondering when will we see you again?" Zeref asks and we hear another giggle.
"My rest days end Tuesday. I'll be back soon!" she exclaims and I felt slightly at ease knowing this. "Do you guys miss me that much?" she asks. And it was true because I certainly missed her a lot. And I was certain that all the males around this table missed her… in a working relationship capacity. Well expect me… and Laxus.
"Of course we miss you!" Gray chips in.
"Yes we miss you!" Hibiki states and we hear her chuckle again.
"Yeah yeah Hibiki you just miss my sweets." She says from the other side and at this Hibiki chuckles.
"You hurt me Miss Heartfelia." Hibiki says and we all chuckle.
