33 Blacktop Obsession

"Morning Sunshine." Shayde walked in Kaidyn's room, feeling better than she had in a long while.

"Shay!" Kaidyn smiled, sitting up, smiling when she saw her sister.

"Wow, you look way better today, my lil raccoon." Shayde smiled, teasing her sister with a smile. Her eyes were still very black and had huge circles of black around them.

"Not funny. But since I can go home today, I'm in a good mood and I'll let that slide." She nodded, giving Shayde a slight push.

"Wow, so generous of you." Shayde smiled. "So you were able to get a shower I see. How was it standing up?" She asked, taking the brush off the side table to brush her sister's long blonde hair.

"It's better. I am not dizzy anymore." Kaidyn assured her sister.

"Sorry I wasn't here last night." She braided Kaidyn's hair in a side braid.

"No worries. Roman and Tej watched tv with me last night. We had a blast. They make me laugh." Kaidyn smiled.

"Sounds like fun for sure." Shayde said, lost in thought for a minute. "Real talk, Kaidyn, we have to leave for Florida straight from here." She said, hating to break the news to her. Kaidyn was so against Florida. Ever since things had happened, she hated Florida and would do anything to not be there. They were in California because of Kaidyn. Shayde hated California.

"Shay, please. No, I can't go back to Florida." She said, her face falling.

"Take some deep breaths. We won't be anywhere near where anything happened." she promised, rubbing Kaidyn's back. She didn't want Kaidyn having a flashback. That was all she needed.

"We talked about this. You know the guys are going with us. Dom and the crew might come visit at some point now too." Shayde tried to coax lightly.

"Shay, we will be okay here. If we go back there, there's a worse chance..." Kaidyn's voice trailed off.

"Kaidyn, I gotta do this. We gotta do this. I had a whole new house built and Sprinkles is there waiting on you. I promise we'll get through this." She hugged her sister, pulling back to look her in the eyes and give her some assurance.

"I don't want to leave Dom and the guys." Kaidyn tried once more, her tone sounding defeated.

"Honey, I will make sure they come visit, okay?" She asked, hoping this would seal the deal and she would not have to hear anymore pushback on the issue. "Besides, you and Jesse get in too much trouble together." She said.

"I guess. Since you think you know best." Kaidyn rolled her eyes. "Promise you will make them come visit?" She asked, unsure still.

"You know I don't do promises because those sometimes can't be kept and I am not one to break my word." She shook her head. "But you know I will do my best to get them to come see us." she assured her. The girls were talking, no idea that trouble was brewing outside the door.

"What are you doing out here?" Brian asked Monica, who walked up with a police officer. Brian's eyes were wide with shock to see her. Roman stepped in front of the door.

"What's she doin here, Brian?" Roman asked, glaring at Monica and then looking at Brian.

"Hell if I know but I am sure she's leaving, Bro." Brian said, shaking his head.

"Look, I don't wanna be here but I gotta do my job." Monica said, her hands in her pockets, knowing what she was up against. She knew this was not gonna go down easy at all. She knew Shayde's background and who she was raised with and she had all the info on her. She knew this was a risk with Shayde.

"You betta take yo ass back up outta here." Roman said, folding his arms as he and Tej blocked the door.

"Come on, Boys. I don't want any trouble." She shook her head, looking at the officer she was with.

"Monica, whatever you are gonna do, don't do it. I am begging you." Brian said, stepping in front of her. "She's just a kid. Don't go in there. Don't do this." He shook his head.

"I have to do this. I have no choice. My hands are tied." Monica looked down, not able to look into Brian's eyes.

"This is Bullshit." Brian's eyes blazed in anger. "What are you about to do? You don't have any business with those girls. You are customs, you have no business with them." He whispered furiously, getting in her face.

"They are my business and I know what department I am in, thank you. I was already here in Cali on another assignment and they are high profile. I have orders, Brian. I have no choice. Now let's not create a scene, O'Connor. You boys got lucky and got your records clean but you can mess them up real easy if you try to interfere." Monica warned, seeing the nurse walk up, ready to discharge Kaidyn.

"Brian, you gonna do something?" Roman asked, watching helplessly as Monica and the officer walked in the room. They could hear Kaidyn scream no. Roman began to pace furiously.

"Bro, we gotta do something." Tej said, feeling like he should rush in that room.

"Nothing we can do, damn it." Brian said, getting up and pacing out of frustration. "She'd love a reason to put charges on us." He nodded, watching in the room.

"Kaidyn, I am sorry but you gotta come with us." Monica said, her hand on her hip in case she needed her gun. She knew getting past Shayde was going to be the biggest obstacle. "You're under arrest, Kaidyn Sutton." Monica said.

"What?!" Kaidyn and Shayde both looked at her in shock. This was the last thing they had expected. The officer read her her rights.

"That's not possible. She's not even in any shape to go with you. I wanna know what makes you think you are gonna take her in for? She's done nothing." Shayde hissed, watching the nurse work quickly at removing the Iv. Shayde's hand was in her pocket on her gun, debating whether to use it or not.

"She didn't show up for her community service." Monica shrugged, waving the papers. "I have it all right here." She smirked.

"That's bullshit. I had it cleared up." Shayde growled, knowing the cops were doing this to get her or to get to Carter. Something wasn't right but she'd sure get to the bottom of it.

"I am only doing what I have to. I am sorry." Monica said, in a fake voice trying to keep things calm and from going South with Shayde. Shayde had a reputation of being deadly when cornered.

"Oh, you are sorry that's for sure. You'll be sorrier when this is over. Keep that fake shit to yourself. Cuffs really? You gotta cuff a kid? She's not a threat to you." Shayde narrowed her eyes. "She's already beat the hell up, why do you gotta cuff her?" Shayde asked, trying to keep her temper from getting them in more trouble. Shayde got up to stop them but the uniformed officer stepped in front of her.

"She's a flight risk." Monica shrugged.

"Shayde…" Kaidyn looked at her sister, panic stricken.

"Just go with them, Babygirl." She nodded, giving her a hug. "Don't fight them, don't do anything. Just cooperate. Please." She asked, looking in Kaidyn's eyes, her eyes trying to reassure her. "Stay strong, don't let them have anymore control, I will get this fixed quickly, Kaidyn. Count, deep breaths, you know the stuff we practiced. Be brave and be strong. This is where it counts." Shayde nodded, holding Kaidyn's head up, looking her in the eyes. Kaidyn nodded numbly as Shayde helped put Kaidyn's shoes on and followed them out the door, right behind Monica.

"Let's go do this." Monica said, leading her out the door.

"If you hurt one little hair on her head, I will personally give it back to you tenfold. Promise you that." Shayde snarled in a low voice. "Your death is going to be long and painful. I haven't forgotten." Shayde promised under her breath, right behind Monica to make sure she heard her.

"Are you serious?!" Roman started to jump up from the chair in the hall, seeing Kaidyn handcuffed with Monica. Tej held him back, knowing they didn't need anyone else going to jail.

"Be strong and behave for her sake. She's got enough to worry about right now." Tej whispered to him with a nod. Pushing him back down. "You're gonna get Kaidyn upset, bruh." He warned.

"Kaidyn, we'll get you out. These guys don't know what they are doing." Brian promised, pulling out his phone. "I'm working on it right now." He nodded.

"Kaidyn, you can make this real simple if you tell me where Carter is." Monica looked in the back seat at Kaidyn.

"It's raining. Hmm." Kaidyn talked to herself, trying to not think about anything and trying to count the number of bars on the cop window, a trick Shayde had taught her to try to keep calm. She wouldn't give Monica the satisfaction of breaking her so she focused on anything she could count to keep her anxiety from getting a hold of her. She refused to look at Monica.

"Not gonna answer me, huh?" Monica asked, folding her arms.

"Absolutely...NOT." Kaidyn shook her head. "Cops are the worst drivers, dang. You get your license in a cracker jack box?" She asked the cop, leaning up to the bar.

"Who beat the hell out of you?" Monica asked, raising an eyebrow.

"One, two, three ..." Kaidyn continued to ignore her. She wasn't gonna give them anything at all. "Who dyed your hair that awful color" She asked, not missing a beat.

"Can we skip the personal attacks please? Let's try to be adults here." Monica rolled her eyes.

"You made it personal." Kaidyn retorted, sighing. She fiddled with the cuffs, refusing to look at Monica.

"Gee, you are worse than Roman." Monica muttered.

"You don't know anything about Roman" Kaidyn shook her head.

"I know more than you think. I know Brian and I know that sister of yours. I know Carter too." She said, watching Kaidyn closely to see how she would react. Kaidyn was just ignoring her, staring out the window.

"They have Kaidyn, you better find a way to get her out of there and damn quick." Shayde pulled out her 'Sparco' phone and dialed a number. She was quick to hang up, not realizing Brian was watching her. She packed up Kaidyn's' things hastily and was moving quickly.

"You okay?" Brian asked, concerned.

"Do I seem okay? I am fine. I gotta go find me a crooked cop because apparently I paid off the wrong fucking pig." She said, her face red. "Outta my way. I got a lot I gotta get done." Shayde said, not stopping at Brian's shocked face.

"So then let me help. Stop. Stop for just a second." He begged, grabbing her by the shoulders.

"I can't stop, not right now. I gotta get her out before someone else gets to her and hurts her worse than Tran ever could. Cops included." She said, looking away and not letting the tears of worry and pure anger escape her face.

"What kind of stuff are you into?" Brian asked, hoping she would just tell him the deal.

"You're funny. I don't have time for this and obviously I can't trust anyone. You want to help you can help me track down the cop I just paid off for her community service to be over with." Shayde said, wondering if he really would help her. "Cause clearly he took my money and flipped on me." She said, mad at herself for trusting anyone in California.

"I can do that. I got connections." He promised. Shayde's phone rang and Brian guessed he already knew who this was.
"Shayde, I got a call. What the hell happened?" Hector asked, running to his gate at the airport. "You know what, I'll meet you guys at Dom's house. I'll be there by tonight." he promised.

"Hector?" Brian asked, already knowing the answer.

"Yup, he'll be at Dom's tonight." Shayde said, walking out the door not waiting for Brian.
