Graduation Day had finally arrived and all of members of Reefside High Class of 2004, were heading towards graduation practice. All of them were dressed in their caps and gowns. They were going to have a photographer there and the school board was going to buy everyone a 5 by 7 picture and an 8 by 10 picture. At the end of Graduation, the boys would line up in the shape of a zero, and the girls would be lined up in the shape of a four.
Tommy had decided that morning, he was going to order some pizzas for his four former rangers and both him, Kimberly, and Billy had decided that they wanted to have lunch with their students. Graduation was supposed to take place at 7:00 and then Tommy and Kimberly's weekly date night was at 5:00. Since they would be leaving straight for graduation after having dinner at Olive Garden. Kimberly had gotten a new dress for the occasion. A pale pink knee length dress with spaghetti straps, a pair of pink t-strap sandals, and a light pink cardigan.
Billy carried in Four large pizzas from Papa Johns. One plain cheese, one peperoni, and one sausage. Four litter bottles of sprite, dr. pepper, Pepsi, and Sunkist Orange. He laid them down on one of the back tables. Kimberly had purchased some fancy graduation plates and cups for everyone to use during the small get together. On a smaller table was a bowl of cherry punch and a cake. The cake had white buttercream icing with red, blue, yellow, and pink roses. In the middle of the cake, it said "Congratulations, Conner, Ethan, Kira, and Trent," in black. Hayley had baked it herself and decorated it special for the four teens.
"So, what is the big surprise Dr. O?" Conner asked as he walked in. Kira, Ethan, and Trent followed him into the classroom. "We all got e-mails from Mrs. O, to report to your room after graduation practice."
"Billy, Kimberly, and I decided that we'd like to have one last get together with all of you before graduation," Tommy explained. "I thought we could talk about our future plans."
"And we wanted to have lunch with you," Billy added as he got out a package of paper plates and paper cups. "As well as some cake and punch."
"I made the punch and bake the cake myself," Hayley stated.
"Dr. O, Mrs. O, Mr. Cranston, and Hayley thank you," Kira smiled as she picked up a paper plate. She walked over to middle table with the pizza boxes, and got a piece of peperoni and cheese pizza. "This really means a lot."
She laid her plate down at a large table where Tommy, Kimberly, and Billy were sitting. Kira headed to the left table and poured some sprite into her paper cup. The peperoni pizza was a huge hit for all eight people in the room. There wasn't any left to go back for a second piece. However, half of the sausage of the cheese pizza was left. So, they were able to go back for seconds.
"So, what do you all have planned?" Tommy asked as everyone came back to the table with a piece of cake and a cup of punch.
"I'm going to be a full-time student at Reefside Tech. in the fall," Ethan said after he took a sip of punch. "I'm taking the summer off to give some computer lessons to younger students. I've even gotten a program that will teach people how to type."
"And I'm going to be sitting up a soccer camp this summer," Conner informed. "I'm going to be coaching a soccer team for elementary school students. In the fall I'm going to the University of California and major in physical education."
"I've been accepted into art school," Trent smiled. "I'm going to be going to college in New York. I am planning on becoming an art teacher."
"I was given a full scholarship to go to college," Kira stated as she took a bite of cake. "I'm going an opportunity to record my first album. I was discovered talent agent who came to the Chorus concert. He has had his eye on me for the last four years."
"That's wonderful!" Kimberly beamed with a smile. "Are you going to take it?"
"I haven't decided yet," Kira sighed as she laid her fork down. "I know college is going to be busy. But, I also realize that there could come a time when I have to resume my ranger duties. So, I can hold off-"
"-Kira, we've been trying to tell all four of you this for a long time," Tommy began as he took hold of Kimberly's hand. "Once we defeated Mesogog you all can retire as rangers-"
"-I was wondering why my dino gem was no longer working," Ethan declared as he took a bite of cake.
"Once you defeated Mesogog it used up all the energy in your dino gems," Kimberly announced taking a deep breath. "You can resume your normal lives."
"Kira, I know that I'll be in New York," Trent said as he took a deep breath. "But, we can have a long-distance relationship-"
"-Trent, I have gotten accepted either at New York or Florida University," Kira quickly interrupted. "I haven't decided which one I am going to attend."
"Kira, if you want to go to Florida, I want you to go," Trent sighed. "I'll miss you, but I don't want stand in your way in becoming a singer. You've dreamed of this for years."
"That's why I've decided to go to New York," Kira reveal as she took one last sip of her punch. "I had decided to go to the college where I'd be closer to you."
"Kira, are you sure this is what you want," Trent asked as he raised an eye brow. "I know Florida has a good music program."
"I am sure," Kira assured him.
"Trent, the biggest mistake that I made was when I was a junior in high school," Tommy said as he tightened his grip on Kimberly's hand. "Kimberly was accepted to compete in the Pan Global Games, but she'd have to go to Florida. I encouraged her to go, because I knew that if I said don't go, she wouldn't have gone. And I didn't want to hold her back. But, if I had it to do over, I would have found someone to transfer my powers to and I would have moved to Florida with her."
"Trent, a good woman is hard to find. When you find the one you belong with and truly love them, you don't let them go," Kimberly declared. "I made that mistake with Tommy. Someone was good a forgery and sent both me and Tommy a break up letter. We both thought the other one had found someone else. And we didn't have any contact for a year."
"How did you get back with him?" Trent asked as he reached into his pocket.
"Kim and I were lucky," Tommy smiled as Kimberly looked down at her engagement ring and wedding ring. "We got a second chance because we both ended up going to MIT. We were in the same classes and it was awkward-"
"-you posed a pink ranger fan on a chess website," Kimberly grinned as she turned to look into Tommy's eyes. "We just used the chat section because we were lonely. And I told you about my break up-"
"-and I told you to talk to me," Tommy smiled as he gave her peck on the cheek. "And you talked with me in our swimming class. Mrs. Batten didn't give me a locker. And you said I could share a locker with you. Then you said that you were going to ask me to be your swimming buddy anyway."
"Trent, like Tommy said," Kimberly continued. "We were lucky and got a second chance to have a relationship. But, not everyone gets a second chance."
Trent pulled out a black box and opened it. Instead, was a sliver ring with a yellow heart shaped diamond in the center. Kira's eyes filled with tears as she just looked at the ring.
"Kira, I've loved you since I first laid eyes on you," Trent began as he started to shake. "I am so glad that you are going to New York with me. I never want to lose you. Will you marry me?"
"Of course," Kira cried as Trent slide the ring on her finger. "I thought you'd never ask me."
Later that evening, Tommy sat with Kimberly in the teacher's section as they were watching the students one by one walk across the stage to receive their diploma. She stared down at her left hand where her engagement ring and wedding ring were resting on her ring finger.
"Kira Lynn Ford"
"Ethan Michael James"
"Conner Wayne McKnight"
"Trent Fernandez Mercer"
"I still can't believe all four of our rangers made it into the top 3 percent," Kimberly whispered to Tommy.
"I know," Tommy whispered back. "I'm so proud that Ethan is the Valedictorian."
"Tommy, do you think we did the right thing?" Kimberly asked as she watched Kira walk across the stage.
"Of course, I do," Tommy smiled. "Trent and Kira remember of the two of us when we were younger. I know that they really love each other."
"I know they do too," Kimberly agreed as Ethan walked across the stage followed by Conner and Trent. "After everything that we've been through from the time we were rangers in high school, the break up letter, meeting again in college, the internship, and being mentors to the kids, I know that it is important to be with the one you love no matter what is going on."
The End
Author's note:
So, this ends the second chance series. I've planned on this ending for a couple of months. Now, I will be working on a Cinderella story which is based on the live action Cinderella and the book So, This Is Love. The book is a twisted tale about what it would have been like if Cinderella hadn't tried on the glass slipper. Kim will be taking the role of Cinderella, Tommy will be taking the role of Prince Charming, and Rita will be taking the role as Lady Tremaine. I'm still in the process of deciding if the live action movie and the book should be a long story. Or just make them into two separate stories.
