"What's up with her?" Scorpius asked as Rose plonked herself down in front of him at the Slytherin table and groaned loudly.

Albus sat down next to her and smiled broadly. "We were casting our first patronus today," he started to explain.

"Stop talking, Albus," Rose ordered, trying to sound authoritarian. However, that was a lot more difficult when one's head was firmly planted on a table, as Rose's was.

"And?" Scorpius asked, closing his textbook. There was tea to be spilt, it was no time for homework.

"And…" Albus' grin broadened. "We got to see what Rose's patronus animal was."

"Why, oh why?" Rose wailed. "I wanted an eagle, or a cat, or something like that. Something that actually represented me."

"I take it you didn't get what you wanted?" Scorpius asked.

Rose simply wailed even louder, causing a few people around them to shoot them curious looks, but when they saw it was Rose Weasley who was producing the strange noise, they quickly dismissed it.

Gryffindor as she was, Rose did whatever she wanted and boldly assumed the consequences, which was why no one was surprised when she usually sat down at the Slytherin table to hang out with her two best friends; Albus and Scorpius. After all, she was known to have done some stranger things (an incidents with bubbles and spinach you were better off not knowing about).

Also, she had a tendency to growl aggressively and attack anyone who dared cross or, Merlin forbid, question her.

"It's…" Albus said, clearly relishing the fact that he was going to be the one to tell Scorpius.

"It's a bloody polar bear!" Rose exclaimed.

There was a moment of silence during which Scorpius tried to comprehend what he had just heard, and why exactly it was such a terrible thing. Rose had also momentarily looked up from her I'm-dead-don't-talk-to-me position to see his reaction.

"So?" he asked, clearly confused.

"A polar bear!" Rose shrieked once again (and once again, no one was surprised to hear her shriek such weird things). "You know, those cute little white things in the snow."

Scorpius frowned. "I don't know if you can really describe them as cute and little."

"Exactly!" she continued. "I am not cute and little!"

He was now truly puzzled. "But didn't you just say the polar bears weren't cute and…"

Albus watched as he grew deeper and deeper into confusion. Clearly, the black-haired Slytherin was very amused by Rose's rant and Scorpius' misunderstanding. Scorpius was suddenly very tempted to kick his best friend in the shin.

"-I always hated the snow!" Rose exclaimed, finishing her little rant.

"But Rose…" Scorpius tried to point out.

"What?" she roared. "You think it's funny too?"

Albus had now started hiccuping. Scorpius was thoroughly discombobulated by the whole episode, not entirely sure what had happened. But then again, when you were friends with the Weasley-Granger-Potter brood, there was often a lot of confusion.

"No, no, no. Of course not!" he told her, and that seemed to calm her down a little.

"Good," she growled.

Scorpius decided it was probably now for the best if he returned to the homework he had started and try to figure out just exactly what had happened: a) why Rose was upset and b) why Albus thought it was so funny.

The only thing he was sure of was that Rose's polar bear patronus suited her absolutely perfectly.
