Chapter 34 – Luke vs Vader
As the squad was caught in the moon of Endor, the fleet was caught in a trap between the Death Star and the Imperial fleet.
Everything was happening, outside, while the Emperor was watching from his chair. Looking to Luke and Ines he called them
"Come you two. See for yourselves"
Luke and Ines came closer and Ines just got shock when she saw the battle happening outside. They knew the people in that Alliance and now many of them would die.
"From here you will witness the final destruction of the Alliance and the end of your insignificant rebellion"
Luke looked back at the Emperor and gave a glare to his lightsaber, that was by the Emperor side.
Ines looked at back it too, she sensed Luke's desire to grab it and kill the Emperor.
Luke don't do it he heard her in his mind.
"You want this, don't you?" the Emperor sensed that too and smiled "The hate is swelling in you now. Take your Jedi weapon. Use it. I am unarmed. Strike me down with it. Give in to your anger. With each passing moment you make yourself more my servant"
Ines make Luke, look at her and grabbing his head between her hands she make him look at him
Listen to my voice, Luke. Don't listen to him. I love you
Luke closes his eyes and rest his forehead on hers. After a while he looked at Palpatine
"No!"
"It is unavoidable. It is your destiny. You, like your father and your unborn son… are now mine"
Luke pulled Ines closer to him. He wouldn't touch her.
Endor:
Han, Leia and Chewie came out of the bunker, and realize they were surrounded. If they don't destroy that bunker pretty soon, everything would be lost.
"All right, movie it"
As they force them to walked to the center.
All of the sudden, 3PO appeared
"Hello, I say, over there. Were you looking for me?"
Everyone looked at up, and the officers order to bring them down.
3PO walked back to R2
"They're on their way. R2, are you sure this was a good idea?"
"Freeze. Don't move" the storm troopers yelled
"We surrender" 3PO said. Then out of the trees and everyone they started to be attacked by the Ewoks and the Battle of Endor started.
Some of the troops ran inside the bunker and closing the door behind them.
Leia and Han ran towards but the code was changed.
"Great" Leia said "Code's changed. We need R2" she told Han
"Here's the terminal"
Reaching the comlink, Leia started to called R2.
The droid started to beeped, making 3PO looked at him
"Going? What you mean? Going where, R2?" as he saw the little droid rolling away "Wait. R2, this is no time for heroics"
In space near the Death Star the battle continue as well, as the Alliance was started to be attack but the fighters. Which made Lando questioning that
"Only the fighters are attacking. What are the Star destroyers waiting for?"
Inside the Death Star:
Luke and Ines continue to watch the battle outside. Ines was hiding her face on Luke's chest, she couldn't watch it anymore. There was got to be something they could do. Luke kissed the top of her head. He knew what she was feeling and he was feeling the same.
"As you can see, my young apprentice your friends have failed. Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational battle station"
"What?" Ines said
"Fire at will, commander" Palpatine ordered
She gasped when she saw one of the Alliance ships blowing up and turned away from the scene. Feeling nauseous she closed her eyes.
Luke grabbed her
"Are you okay?"
She nod
"I'm okay. Just a little nauseous. It will pass" she resting her head on Luke's shoulder.
Palpatine looked at them.
"Your fleet is lost and your friends on the Endor moon will not survive. There is no escape my young apprentice. The Alliance will die, as will your friends" he said as he saw Luke holding Ines closer to him. "Come here child" he told her.
Ines looked at Luke and then to emperor as Luke pulled her closer to him.
"I said come here" he repeated.
Looking to Luke she nod and started to approaching the emperor. He took a different binders and putting on her wrists, he tied her on this chair.
Ines looked down
"What is this?"
"Some special binders"
Luke looked at Palpatine
"Let her go"
Palpatine smiled
"Good. I can feel your anger. I am defenseless. Take your weapon. Strike me down with all your hatred and your journey towards the dark side will be complete"
Ines shook her head towards him. Somehow those binders stopped her to use the force and she couldn't talk to him. Luke looked back at her.
"Your love for each other is strong" Palpatine said and reaching his hand he touched Ines belly, making her wince at that "Just like the force is strong in this little one. I can feel the force in both of you."
Luke looked at Palpatine's hand touching Ines belly.
"Don't touch her" he said making Palpatine smile.
Ines look at him. Somehow Luke was trying to say something.
Trust me Luke thought even knowing she couldn't hear him at the moment cause of those binders but he hope she would understand.
Ines looked at him and nod.
I trust you she thought.
With that, Luke reached his hand and his lightsaber flew towards his hand, and igniting it he tried to strike Palpatine, being block by Vader's, while Palpatine laughed at the scene.
While the battle down in Endor continue, inside the throne room, Luke and Vader continue to fight. Vader's was impressive with Luke's speed. Somehow he was able to get the advantage and kicking him in the gut, Vader flew down the stairs, hitting with a grunt the floor below. Luke was angry at him and the emperor. He remembered what he told him a year ago. He could kill the emperor and ruled the Galaxy. Avenge and Conquer.
"Good. Use your aggressive feelings boy. Let the hate flow through to you" he heard Palpatine speak. He nod as he looked at Vader but then he heard her
"Luke. Don't do that. That is not you, my love"
He looked back and saw Ines and it was like he woke up. Taking a deep breath he smiled at her. Yes, she was right. That was not him. He would not turn for her and for his child she was caring. The love he had for them was stronger than the hate he had for Palpatine.
Turning off his lightsaber he looked back at Vader, who was getting up and was walking towards him
"Obi-Wan has taught you well" Vader told Luke
"I will not fight you father" Luke replied to him.
Vader walked up the stairs standing in front of Luke, who kept his eyes on him.
"You are unwise to lower your defenses" and the two lightsabers clash again, as Vader attacked, forcing Luke to reverse defensively. Vader bound Luke's blade, but Luke disengaged and leaped to the safety of an overhead gantry, looking down at Vader.
"Your thoughts betray you, Father. I feel the good in you, the conflict." Luke replied watching Vader
"There is no conflict" Vader replied
"Yes there is. You are thinking about my child, your grandson. You care about him. You couldn't bring yourself to kill me before and I don't believe you'll destroy me know. You don't want my son without a father."
Vader looked up at Luke
"You underestimate the power of the dark side. If you will not fight then you will meet your destiny" and throwing his lightsaber, he cut the supports holding up the gantry, making Luke fall down.
"LUKE" Ines screamed as she watch the man she love falling down, at the same time she was trying to get free from the binders.
"Good! Good" he laughed walking towards them as Vader walked down the stairs trying to find him. But, Luke kept himself hiding. He would not fight his father. He would not turn to the dark side. He will not do the same mistake his father did. He had someone he loved and she is was caring his child and he would be by their side.
"You cannot hide forever Luke" he heard Vader
"I will not fight you" he replied.
"Give yourself to the dark side. It is the only way to save Ines and your child and also your friends. Yes. Your thoughts betray you. Your feelings from them, are strong. Especially for… sister."
Luke tried to hid the pain that he was feeling from Leia. But it was too late. Vader was able to sense it
"So you have a twin sister. Your feelings now betrayed her too. Obi-Wan was wise to hide her from me. Now is failure is complete. If you will not turn to the dark side, then perhaps she will"
That was it.
"NEVER!" Luke screamed.
He rushed towards his father with a frenzy that Vader never saw in him. They locked the saber, body to body. When Luke pushed Vader back to break the clinch. Luke continued to attack making Vader stumble backward trying to block Luke's attack, but he continue to hit him with all his anger until with a blow he slices Vader right robotic hand, and Vader lay on the floor, trying hard to breath.
Ines sighed in relief when she saw the fight is over and Luke won.
Luke stood there watching his father, breathing heavily.
"Good" he heard the emperor climbing down the stairs "Good. Your hate as made you powerful. Now, fulfill your destiny and take your father's place at my side"
Luke looked back to his gloved hand and then to his father's. He was becoming him. Looking back, he looked at Ines. She was looking at him, shaking her head. He knew what she was trying to say.
I love you she mouth to him and he loved her too. He loved her, like he never thought he could love anyone and he loved the life they made on the first night he had her. He would not turn. His destiny was with her and to raise their children.
Turning off his lightsaber he throw it away and face the emperor.
"Never. I'll never turn to the dark side. You failed your highness. I'm a Jedi, Like my father before me." he said facing emperor.
Ines smile. She was proud of the father of her child.
"So be it Jedi"
Palpatine started to walked towards him.
"If you will not be turned you will be destroyed" Palpatine told him and out of nowhere, lighting bolts came out of his hands and hit Luke, who felt backwards in agony.
"NO!" Ines screamed trying to free herself.
"Young fool, only now at the end do you understand" Palpatine said and stroke him again, making Luke screamed in pain as the electricity hit him.
Upstairs, tied to the throne, Ines was screaming
"STOP! LUKE!" as she try to free herself. She couldn't lose him.
"Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the dark side. You have paid the price for your lack a vision" Palpatine continue to strike Luke, making the young Jedi screamed as he turned to his father's
"Father, Please" he begged as Ines was crying at the vision of the father of her child being electrocuted to death.
"PLEASE STOP" she begged, falling on her knees.
Palpatine gave a last look to Luke, who was almost unconscious and in agony.
"Now, young Skywalker, you will die. Don't worry, I will take care of your son" and he started to attack Luke, who screamed in agony.
Ines looked at Vader
"PLEASE DON'T LET HIM KILL HIM. DON'T MAKE MY SON GROWN WITHOUT HIS FATHER. DON'T LET ME LOSE HIM. PLEASE"
Vader looked at the young girl, on her knees begging for his son life. He then look at Luke who was almost lifeless and back to the emperor. And without warning he lunched himself towards the emperor and grabbed him, and lunched him down the shaft, where he fall down until he hit the core and a bolt of explosion came up.
Falling down, Vader was getting his breathing machine damage, making him hard to breath.
Luke raised his head and crawled towards his father, helping him to lay back while Ines sighed in relief.
"Can somebody get me out of here please?" she asked.
In a few seconds the binders opened and once she was free she ran downstairs and kneeling in front of Luke she wrapped her arms around his neck, shaking.
Luke wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her into a tight hug. They would be okay. She and their baby would be okay.
"I'm okay now. Calm down babe" he said making her face him "It's over. Don't be like this, it is not good for the baby"
She nod hugged him again trying to calm herself down. Then she looked at Vader. That man did help her planet to be destroyed, killing everyone she loved, but now she was not seeing Darth Vader, but Anakin Skywalker, the grandfather of the child she was caring. He saved Luke, the love of her life.
Reaching his hand she grabbed it and squeeze it
"Thank you for saving Luke"
"I would not allow my grandson being without a father" he said between breaths, making Luke wrapped Ines under his arm and kissed her head when she rest it on his shoulder, as both standing there in silence for a while.
"Luke we need to get out of here"
Luke nod and grabbing his father, they left the throne room.
The Emperor is death. Will Luke and Ines leave the Death Star in time?
