Hey guys, it's Friday so I updated because that's what I do, I update every single Friday. No exceptions.
It's been a while so Recap:
Isabelle meets a guy named Simon Lewis. That's it, that's the recap.
Disclaimer: If I owned the Mortal Instruments series, I would not be writing fanfiction about the Mortal Instruments series. Also there wouldn't be a Mortal Instruments series because I could never.
Clary sat at the table at lunch break, next to Jace and across from Maia who was sitting between Alec and Sebastian, she smiled brightly as she asked "Hey guys, is everyone excited to go see Magnus' new apartment today?"
Alec slammed his tray down and walked up leaving the cafeteria, Clary stared back after him, "Something I said?" she asked and Jace just waved at her to let it go and she shrugged.
"I'm not going" Sebastian said.
"What? Why not?" Clary asked.
"Because Raphael is going to be there" Sebastian answered as if it is obvious.
"So?"
"So I'm not going" Seb snapped.
"Okay, don't bite me" Clary said.
"Yeah, don't. Trust me, she will bite back" Jace said before Clary slammed her elbow at his arm.
"Ow, kidding" Jace said as he rubbed his arm, as if it hurt, "By the way, did any of you guys see Aline?"
"She's hanging out with the twins" Seb said as he gestured with a nod to four tables down where Aline was sitting and laughing with Mark and Helen Blackthorn.
"When did that happen?" Maia said raising her head to look at them with confusion and a bit of annoyance.
"Is she and Mark...?" Clary asked and Sebastian just shrugged, not giving any real answer.
Maia pursed her lips and got up from her seat, leaving the cafeteria in a hurry, stomping through. This was ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous. Her best friend kissed her and then completely shut her out. She hasn't been able to talk to Aline about anything for the past week, she hasn't been answering her calls or texts and she pretends she isn't home when Maia goes to her house and now she's hanging out with the Blackthorn twins. What was that about?
As if ignoring her wasn't enough, she went out to find new friends? Aline was being childish and Maia wasn't going to stick around for her to rub it in her face.
"Was it something I said?" Clary asked again, unsure.
"Speaking of people who aren't here, did anyone see Isabelle?" Jace asked.
"She texted me saying she's hanging out with some new transfer guy, apparently he is nerd hot" Clary said.
Jace grimaced at that but both were interrupted when Sebastian slammed his hands down on the table, getting up and leaving.
"Was it something I said?" Clary asked, now huffing out the hair from her eyes.
"Don't worry about it" Jace waved a hand in the air and shrug it off.
"Doesn't it seem that ever since you and I got together, everyone is on edge and annoyed?" Clary asked as she turned her body around to face Jace, pouting her lip as if that thought bothered her.
"I selfishly prefer our happiness to theirs" Jace said, not missing a beat as he turned around on the bench with one leg on each side of it, so that Clary was sitting between his legs now.
"Is that why you have this big frown line right over here" Clary said as she pointed at his forehead.
Jace took a hold of her hand in both his as he kissed it, "This is my happy face".
"Oh is that the same happy face you had last night?" Clary joked.
"If you forgot I'd be happy to show you the face again" Jace said with a smirk and Clary slapped at his chest making him chuckle.
"I'm serious" Clary said.
"So am I. The janitor closet is empty".
"Jace" Clary whined again.
Jace chuckled, pulling her close by her hands and kissing her forehead, "Relax, this is not our fault, they just need some time to sort through everything on their own".
"I just feel so bad" Clary said.
"Don't even worry about it, soon enough they're all going to be fine and sitting around at the table stopping me from doing this" Jace said as he held her chin, tipping her head up so her lips would meet his and he kissed her.
"I think the teachers would take care of stopping you" Clary mumbled between kisses.
"Let them try" Jace said with a grin against her lips as he deepened the kiss.
Maia shuffled her books in her locker, putting her History book inside and then taking out her Math textbook when all of a sudden she caught sight of three figures at the end of the hallway. Aline was waving goodbye at the Blackthorn twins as she headed off to her class, she didn't seem to notice Maia and with a quick motion, Maia closed her locker and followed her.
Maia was surely mistaken about Aline not seeing her, because her steps got faster as soon as she closed her locker. But Maia was not giving up, not so easily.
"Aline, please" Maia said as she followed Aline down the stairs.
"What, Maia? What do you want?" Aline said, a hint of a shout bubbling at her throat as she hurried her steps.
"I want to talk" Maia started.
"I don't" Aline shut her off immediately, Maia grabbed Aline's wrist, stopping her and Aline turned around with anger in her eyes, "Just leave me alone".
"No, Aline, look I've given you some time but-"
"Some time? You've been texting me and calling nonstop everyday, not to mention your house visits. Is that your definition of space?" Aline argued back.
"I'm sorry but we need to talk, Aline" Maia said.
"That's not your decision to make, Maia" Aline said and Maia winced, shrinking back but she persisted nonetheless.
"I know but-" Maia was at a loss for words, because what could she say? She said everything over and over again, in calls, texts, voicemails, even in letters. She sighed defeated, "I just think we should talk about this".
Aline sighed when she saw the look in Maia's eyes as a sort of swelling set off in her chest, she was conflicted and confused, she didn't know what to do or say. She just knew that she couldn't do this, not here, not now. It was too soon, her embarrassment was still vivid in her head, the feeling still leaving a sour taste in her mouth as she recalled it. She didn't want to talk about it, she just wanted to curl up in a hole and die.
But her mother wouldn't allow that so she would settle for evading the girl for the rest of her life.
"I can't talk about it, Maia" Aline said with a shake of her head, "I need time".
"How much time?" Maia asked.
Aline shook her head, not looking at the girl, "I don't know".
"Why don't you know?" Maia asked.
"It's not that simple, Maia" Aline said with a hard glare as the cold tone was back in her voice, prominent and bitter.
"It's only as simple as we want it to be" Maia argued.
"I am not ready to talk, Maia" Aline said with a hard tone, making it clear she wasn't moving on the subject, "Stop pushing it".
Maia released her wrist when Aline pulled her hand away roughly as started to walk away, her back to Maia as she mustered all her strength to keep walking. Maia called out after her "I don't want to lose my best friend".
Aline stopped in her track, taking a deep breath, willing everything in her not to turn around, "I don't want that either" she whispered over her shoulder, but she knew Maia heard it.
"You do not know how to play guitar" Isabelle said, sounding disbelieving as she looked at the pretty instrument in Simon's room.
"Yeah I don't, I just keep it here to drag girls' attention from the action figures" Simon said as he discreetly kicked the box labeled 'Action Figures' with his foot under the desk, Isabelle looked back at him with a raised eyebrow and a smirk as she handed it to him.
"Play me something" she demanded as she sat down on his bed, she honestly couldn't believe herself. She had only met Simon a few hours and now she was in his home. She showed him around school and to all of his classes, by the end of the day he asked if she would like to hang out and before she could think better of it, the word 'Sure' had already left her lips.
This was very unlike her, this trusting nature wasn't in her but something about Simon was just so comforting, like you could tell him your deepest darkest secrets in a heartbeat.
Simon had to kick himself to think straight, here he was in his room with the most stunningly beautiful girl he has ever seen, a raven haired beauty, on his bed, asking him to play guitar for her. Even in his head he didn't believe himself, he must have suddenly come down with a mental illness or something. But he picked up the guitar and sat across from her on the desk's chair, taking a deep breath before he let his fingers strum over the familiar chords.
Isabelle listened to the soft melody, she was pleasantly surprised when she actually liked it, she thought she would have to fake it, but Simon's playing brought out a soothing tone into the air that made shivers go up her spine, a sort of humming settled inside of her as she closed her eyes, satisfied with the sound, letting it take her worries and pain away.
It was too soon when Simon stopped and she opened her eyes, shell shocked by the abruptness, he looked sheepish as he said "That's what I have for now".
"You wrote that?" Isabelle asked in surprise as she looked at the sheet of paper with scribbles on it that she couldn't understand but knew they were music notes.
"Yeah, it's rough but-"
"It's good" Isabelle interrupted, "I like it".
Once again silence cascaded between them as Simon coughed awkwardly, trying to thank her and hide the fact that he was just a bit embarrassed, "So tell me, where did you move here from?" Isabelle asked.
"All around the place, really" Simon said, "I was born in New York but my family's been traveling ever since I could remember, I've lived all around Rome, Venice, France, Tunisia, Middle East".
"That sounds amazing" Isabelle said, "Why would you trade all that for this middle of nowhere Idris?"
"Well we're always moving every few months, and you never know how beautiful a country is until you try it" Simon said.
"I would not hold my breath, there is nothing special about Idris" Isabelle said.
"I can think of one thing" Simon muttered under his breath but by the way Isabelle raised a sharp brow, he realized she had heard him, he coughed to hide away his embarrassment, he wasn't usually this stupid, he swears!
"So Isabelle" he starts, "Have you lived here all your life?"
"Yes" Isabelle answers, "My family's been here for generations".
"Your family?"
"Well I don't live alone" Isabelle grinned evilly at him.
Simon blushed a tiny bit, "I meant.. uuh.. I mean.."
"Yeah" Isabelle saved him from himself as she went on, "I have three brothers and we live with my parents. What about you?"
"It's just my mom and I for now" Simon said, "I have a sister but she's in college back in the states".
"And your mom is okay with her living overseas?" Isabelle asked with a raised eyebrow, it wasn't something unusual she supposed, but that must be difficult. She thought about living overseas herself someday. Maybe going to college in the U.S., opening up a fashion company, going to parties.
"No she is not but she is getting used to it" Simon chuckled.
"What about you? Do you think of going to college back in the U.S.? New York maybe?" Isabelle asked with a teasing tone.
"No" Simon answered back quickly, coughing to hide his rudeness, "I don't think so, not now at least, that isn't something on my mind".
Isabelle thought it was a weird behavior of Simon but she didn't mention it. Maybe Simon was weird all the time, she didn't know him yet. But she planned to. "Simon?"
"Yes?"
"There is a school dance this weekend and I was wondering if you would like to come with me" Isabelle said, "As my date". Isabelle has never been shy, she always knew what she wanted and went after it.
Simon seemed to have frozen for a minute, unsure how to operate. There was no way. This had to have been a dream, there was no way a girl, a goddess, like Isabelle would be here in his room asking him out. He tried to pinch himself when Isabelle wasn't looking.
Ow. No, that hurt, not a dream.
"Yes, I'd love to" Simon said.
When the final bell rang, Alec was walking out the door like a man on a mission, for the last hour he has been tapping his pencil against the wooden desk, completely ignoring Algebra as he thought of what he was going to say.
He was on his way to Magnus' apartment. It felt weird to think of it as Magnus' place, even now a part of him couldn't believe it. But as he got in the car he drove straight there, thoughts rambling in his head. Even though he ignored Algebra to think of something to say, he still came up empty.
He figured he would know what to say when he sees Magnus and he needed to see him, fighting with Magnus has put him a bit on edge and with everything around him going into shambles, he wished if he could fix this. He doesn't want to lose Magnus over a silly fight, even though it would probably be better to give him some space. But he just didn't know what to do, he only knew that he needed to talk to him.
When he finally reached the place, it seemed empty, the lights were off. His shift is done, shouldn't Magnus be home by now?
But as he knocked on the door, he was met with silence, confirming his suspicion that no one was home.
So he sat on the steps, and waited. Waited for Magnus, he'd probably be here any minute, their friends were all coming over tonight and he would probably want to be home preparing before they showed, so he could be here any minute now.
"Do you think staring at the door is gonna open it?"
Alec turned around at the sound of a voice talking to him, Raphael. "Hey" Alec said awkwardly, hoping it wasn't really creepy, him standing here, waiting for Magnus.
"Magnus isn't here" Raphael said as he approached the door.
"I figured" Alec nodded, his cheeks suddenly tingled just a hint of red as he scratched the back of his head, "I would have asked if you needed a ride if I knew you were..."
"Going to my own home?" Raphael said with a raised eyebrow.
"Uh yeah, it just sorta slipped my mind" Alec stumbled over his words as he seemed embarrassed but eased slightly at Raphael's eyeroll.
"Don't worry about it" Raphael said, "Magnus would be here soon. Wait inside?"
Alec just nodded as he followed Raphael inside, the place seemed exactly like it did last night before he left. Chairman Meow was sitting on the couch, purring as Raphael scratched behind his ears, but he never opened his eyes, just sunk further into his paws.
"You've been waiting long?" Raphael asked.
"No" Alec said simply as he sat on the couch, Chairman Meow opened his eyes as he strutted to Alec' lap and sat there.
"Something to drink?" Raphael asked, seemingly uncaring either way Alec answers as he poured two glasses of water and handed him one.
"Thanks" Alec said as he watched Raphael ruffle through the cabinets for something to eat, grabbing a few snacks as he headed to the room.
"You're gonna spoil your apatite, I think Magnus is cooking a big meal for tonight" Alec said.
"Oh please mom, let me have ice cream for lunch, please?" Raphael said with a sarcastic tone that made Alec flinch back as he rolled his eyes. "I'm not staying for dinner, I'm having a quick lunch and heading out".
"Why aren't you staying for dinner?" Alec asked.
"Well, isn't Isabelle going to be here?" Raphael said.
"Yes".
"Then I won't be" Raphael said with a shrug as if it was the most basic thing to comprehend.
"What happened between you two?" Alec couldn't help but ask.
"If Isabelle didn't tell you then she probably didn't want you to know" Raphael said.
"And you care what Isabelle wants?"
"Look, Magnus' boyfriend" he said the words as if they were an insult, as if reminding Alec where they stood, "I can't stand the sight of her right now, but I'm not going to bad mouth her to her brother like a dumbass teenager".
"You are a teen-" Raphael slammed the door to his room, firmly cutting Alec off before he could finish his sentence. Okay, Alec thought with a roll of his eyes as he sat there waiting for Magnus to return, all alone with his thoughts.
And Chairman Meow. All alone with his thoughts and Chairman Meow sleeping on his lap.
"No, Clary, I already told you, I'm not coming if Sebastian is coming" Isabelle said to her phone, trying to hiss quietly without alarming Simon.
"Iz, it's been over a week, don't you think it's about time you two-"
"If you say put the past behind you, I swear by the Angel Clary Fray, I will find you and I will hurt you" Isabelle warned with narrowed eyes and a pointed finger, realizing too late she was pointing at Simon's wall poster of Star Wars Episode Four and Clary couldn't see her.
"Well, I will be at Magnus' if you want to find me" Clary said.
"Clary I am not going-"
"Look Iz, if Seb is your problem then you will be happy to know he said that he won't be going if you are so you're in luck" Clary said.
Isabelle flinched a little at that, involuntarily. Is this what it comes to? The two of them just refuse to be in the same room together ever again?
She sucked in a sharp breath, not the least bit happy with the knowledge, Sebastian used to be one of the closest people to her and now it seems like he is a million miles away, he might as well have dropped off the face of the earth. But she supposed it would be hypocritical as well of her to be upset with him for having the same thought as her.
And she hated herself for missing him, she hated how the mere mention of his name makes her heart drop and pick back up faster than ever, how she feels a warmth when thinking of him, how even despite not standing him, she still misses and wants to have him around.
It wasn't even about the sex stuff, she just missed her friend. She missed having someone who knows her inside and out and can tell anything to, she missed hearing him talk about his day or what latest trick he mastered with his car. She missed their friendship.
"... And you know Alec will never let you hear the end of it if you don't show" Clary was still talking on the phone when Isabelle focused back on the conversation.
"Alright fine, I'm coming. Are you happy now?" Isabelle said with a roll of her eyes as she looked back at Simon who was busying himself and trying not to look as if he was listening in, which she could tell he was.
"Very" Clary said.
"And since when are you the spokesperson for Alec?" Isabelle wondered as she crossed her arms over her chest and leaned back on the wall. Those two were awfully closer now, better than ever actually. They've been texting and talking and he doesn't hiss when he says her name anymore.
"We bonded" came Clary's defensive answer.
"Over?" Isabelle asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Er, your cooking? See you in an hour, bye"
Isabelle looked weirdly at the phone as Clary hung up and sighed, looking back at Simon who looked concerned, with a soft look he asked, as if he genuinely cares enough, "Everything okay?"
"Yeah, I just have a stupid commitment" Isabelle said with a sheepish look, "I have to go".
"Not to worry" Simon said, then looked off as he was reciting something "You've made a commitment to the Jedi order, a commitment not easily broken".
"Uh.. sure I guess" Isabelle said.
"It's... uumm Star Wars" Simon said, sounding hopeful and a bit sheepish.
"I've never seen it" Isabelle said with a shrug.
Simon blinked twice, then said "I'm sorry, I can't take you to the dance if you haven't seen Star Wars".
Isabelle laughed loudly and Simon soon joined her, she spoke through deep gasps for breath "If that is your way for asking me to a movie date before the dance" she shook her head, letting her words fall.
"If it is?" Simon asked.
Isabelle smiled, a sort of flirty smile, teasing him "Then I'd keep waiting if I were you, it's gonna take more than a dance to make me watch Star Wars".
"Then how about we continue the conversation after the dance?" Simon suggests.
"I'd like that" Isabelle said before gathering her stuff to leave. She's gonna need a cigarette before she's locked in a room with her brothers for hours, "Bye Simon".
"Er, your cooking? See you in half, bye" Clary let out a harsh breath after she shut off the call. She looked back at Jace who was making gestures with his hand as he talked on the phone, their eyes locked and she nodded with a thumps up.
"Yeah, Sebastian, Isabelle said she's not coming" Jace said to the phone, "Why would I lie?"
Clary smiled evilly to herself as Jace lied to Sebastian, she put the chocolate covered mini donut in her mouth as she raised her legs on the dashboard to Jace's car in front of her.
"Maia's not coming either, tell Aline to come" Jace said, he looked at Clary and mouthed the question 'Maia coming?'
Clary nodded as Jace went back to his call, she dripped a bit of chocolate on the seat and panicked quietly, eying Jace, making sure he wouldn't notice her wiping it off. He would flip if she littered his baby.
"Great Seb, see you in an hour" Jace said as he hung up the phone, "Iz is coming?"
"What? No, I didn't drip" Clary shook her head, "I mean yeah she is coming".
"Good, you know we will have to trap them, because as soon as they see each other they'll start running" Jace said.
"I can sit on Isabelle so she wouldn't run" Clary suggested and Jace howled, laughing like a maniac, "What?"
"Yeah right" Jace rolled his eyes as he laughed.
"What? You don't think I could take on Isabelle?" Clary asked with a raised eyebrow.
Jace licked his lips as he turned to her, taking her hand in his as if he was giving her some bad news, "Baby, I say this in the best way possible, Isabelle will eat you alive, spit out your bones, use your bones and Seb's car as target practice then run away".
Clary snatched her hands away from Jace's grip, "I'm tougher than I look".
"I know but Isabelle is scarier than she looks" Jace started, "And you already know she has a weird taste so I can't take a chance on her eating you away from me".
"Alright buddy, square up, I'll show you no one can mess with me" Clary said as she raised her fists in the air as if to fight him, he grabbed her wrist and she let him pull her towards him, bringing her to his lap.
She looked down at him, bringing her hair over her shoulder as he pulled her for a kiss. The kiss was soft and sweet, almost teasing even and it set warmth through her skin, in the pit of her stomach a fire lit by his touch as his hands stroked the skin of her waist under her shirt, his thump caressing it.
Her hands wrapped behind his neck as she brought herself closer to him, twirling the golden curls around her fingers, tugging at them lightly, making him groan into her mouth as the kiss escalated from sweet and innocent to hungry and passionate.
Their bodies pressed one against the other as their tongues met, battling for power. His body hard and strong, hers soft to his touch as they tried to bring themselves even closer together as if the simple T-shirts separating them were too much.
They only broke apart to gasp for air, but Jace lowered his lips to press kisses to her neck, not getting enough of her taste, biting the skin there teasingly.
"You leave a hickey, I swear by the angel I will never let you kiss me again" Clary warned as she gasped for breath, moaning at the feel of his mouth on her.
Jace immediately let go of the skin on her neck and looked back at her, "You wouldn't dare".
"Try me" she said with a dangerous tone as she leaned back, accidentally hitting the honk with her elbow, the honk shocking her, she jumped up with a bit of a scream. "I think we should stop, if the cops find us again..."
"They'll lock me up forever" Jace said with wide eyes.
"If you smart mouth them again, they might" Clary said as she huffed under her breath, "I would".
"You want to chain me up forever and do bad things to me?" Jace said, "I gotta say, I don't mind that idea at all".
Clary's cheeks blushed deep scarlet as she slapped a hand at his shoulder, "That's not what I meant... You have a dirty mind".
"It's filthy" Jace agreed as he kissed her neck, leaving shivers to run up and down her spine, electric shocks at where his lips touched her, kissing the spot right behind her ear where she was most sensitive, "And it's all for you".
"Jace" she whimpered, closing her eyes and enjoying the feeling, he suddenly pulled away from her and her eyes shot open in surprise to look at him through hooded wanton eyes.
"You're right, we should stop" he said with a light tone as if he wasn't just kissing her sensitive skin, "You're the only one who will get to chain me up".
"You jerk" he snickered at that as she hopped back to her spot next to him on the passenger seat.
"You know, we still have time if you want to try another driving lesson?" Jace suggested, "Would you like that?"
"Yes" Clary agreed as she got out of the car to switch places with him.
Jace got in the passenger side, as he readied himself for another lesson "Okay so first we're gonna try- Clary, is this chocolate on my baby's seat?!"
Magnus came into his house with a little start as he saw Alexander on his couch, petting Chairman Meow in his lap, whom at his arrival, jumped up to the ground to greet him, circling his feet until he picked him up.
"Hey" Alexander said.
"Hello Alexander" Magnus said with a nod, "I didn't know you were here".
"I wanted to talk to you before tonight" Alec said, sounding nervous as he fiddled with his fingers.
"I apologize, if I had known you were waiting for me-"
"Oh it's no trouble at all" Alec said, scratching the back of his neck, "How was work?"
"Exhausting" Magnus admitted, "And since I was already in the neighborhood, I figured why go home and come back? I picked something up".
"You picked something up?" Alec asked with a raised eyebrow, not sure what Magnus meant.
Magnus only took something out of his pocket and wiggled it until it echoed with a loud jiggle of keys, Alec' eyes widened "You've got a new car?"
"I've got a new car" Magnus said, "Would you like to see it?"
Alec nodded, then followed him out to the parking spot where there stood a beautiful Jaguar car in midnight blue, "1963?"
"61" Magnus corrected as Alec admired the car, looking around, checking the mirrors, the seats, even the tires.
"It's a pretty thing" Alec said, "Quite expensive too".
"Estelle gave me a raise for all my hard work at such a difficult time at the store and I thought this was the best thing I could get with it" Magnus said, "Easier than taking the bus or overbearing you".
"I don't mind driving you anywhere, anytime" Alec interrupted looking back at Magnus with truthful, vulnerable eyes.
Magnus nodded understanding, "I know and I appreciate that. But I needed something practical, to drive to and from work or school, also to drop off Raphael.. and it needed to be beautiful as well. What do you think?"
"It's great, Magnus" Alec said, feeling pride as he saw a side of Magnus he doesn't show to just anyone, more than just the fun party guy, but the guy who cares so much about the people around him, his brother, it was a side Alec enjoyed seeing, "Congratulations".
"Thank you" Magnus said as the two headed back inside, "May I offer you a drink?"
"Just water" Alec said.
With a nod, Magnus offered him a glass of water as the two sat down on the dinner table, Magnus coughed, clearing hos throat to fill the awkward silence before he asked "So you said you wanted to talk?"
"Yes" Alec started, "I just wanted to say.. I'm sorry".
"Go on" Magnus encouraged.
"I'm sorry for treating your work as if it isn't something real and accusing you of not thinking of the future when you clearly are" Alec said, scratching at the back of his neck, "I think I was worried about the future, my future, our future, and I let out all my frustration at you, which isn't fair and I am sorry".
"It's alright Alexander, everyone has different paths" Magnus said, "Our paths may differ, but they intertwine. We may have different views on the future and what it holds for us but I would hope that whatever happens we would face it together".
"I'd like that too" Alec said, as Magnus took his hands in his.
"And for the record," Magnus started "I am sorry too, it was unfair of me to say that you are choosing a future based on someone else's idea of what your future should be like. You should do what makes you feel happiest and if that is college and a 9-5, I'm glad I could be the one you share that life with, Alexander".
Alec bit at his bottom lip as he looked at the man he loved, he knew Magnus could tell he was worried about something, something he wasn't saying and it ate at him from the inside, tearing its way through his skin, dying to come out in the most horrifyingly awful way possible and so he blurted out, "I got accepted to college in New York and I want to go there".
Silence. All Alec heard was silence as Magnus' face shifted from the easy smile to a confused daze of an expression to a frown, but all he heard was silence. When Magnus opened his mouth to say something he was interrupted when the door was knocked roughly.
"Open up and I better not see any naked people inside" Isabelle's voice came through the door, breaking the intense moment at the worst time possible. Magnus had simply gotten up and answered the door with a smile back on his lip, not mentioning the topic again.
"Okay so here's how this will go" Clary said as she walked back and forth like a commander in the army in front of the organized group, standing in line. "No fighting, no yelling, no cussing, no hissing, no bickering, no insults".
Everyone in the group sent a side eye to someone as they were all obviously not fond of these rules Clary was setting as she paced in front of them with Jace leaning back against his car, having her back.
"No swearing, no foul play, no jabs, no mumbling under your breath, no jokes that make everyone else uncomfortable" Clary said, then turned back to Jace, "Did I forget something?"
"No throwing silverware or other sharp or heavy harmful objects at one another, including plates, knives, forks, spoons, chairs, tables and the fridges" Jace added, "No punching, no kicking, no tripping".
"And no biting" Clary said.
"Unless they ask you too, and yes it does have to be stated explicitly since consent is everything" Jace said teasingly as he rested an arm over her shoulders, "Even if she likes it when you do".
Clary smacked at his chest then rolled her eyes. Isabelle made a gun with her fingers and pretended to shoot herself in the head, Sebastian who was at her side, pretended to wipe the blood that splattered over his face, making them both cover a chuckle, it was such an involuntarily move that they both seemed shocked by it, looking at each other for a moment before quickly looking away.
"Great, I think we're ready to go then" Clary said as she walked up the flights of stairs, before she could knock Isabelle interrupted and knocked with an open palm as she yelled out "Open up and I better not see any naked people inside".
Magnus soon opened the door with a smile as he ushered them in, excitedly, "Hey" they all greeted as hugs and kisses, 'Congratulations' and 'Nice place you have' were thrown around. They all set the welcome gifts on the card table, as they sat on the new couch admiring the place.
"Dinner should be ready in an hour, in the meantime I'll be making cocktails" Magnus said.
"I'll help" Alec followed after Magnus.
"Is there anything I can help with too?" Isabelle asked.
A chorus of "No" rose as everyone jumped up in unison, Isabelle looked around confused before Magnus cleared his throat and spoke softly, "No, that's alright, thank you Isabelle" and he sauntered off to the kitchen, Alec speed walking behind him before she insisted on helping.
"That was close" Magnus said.
"So I know we were interrupted but-"
"We'll talk later" Magnus said with a smile, he was obviously faking, and a wave of his hand.
"But-"
"Please, Alexander, later" Magnus insisted with pleading eyes as he looked back at Alec, and maybe Alec could see the desperation in Magnus' eyes, not wanting to talk about it yet and so he nodded.
"I'll get the ice" Alec said.
Meanwhile in the living room, a heavy stare down ensued between Isabelle and Sebastian as Clary and Jace tried to level the crowd, though Jace did so unwillingly after being elbowed in the stomach for stirring up issues for his enjoyment.
"So Isabelle, where were you today?" Clary asked.
"Out with a friend" she answered tight lipped, "A new friend".
Sebastian made a gesture of smoking behind the group's backs and she narrowed her eyes, never losing the smile off her face, "Some guy who just moved into town, he's new to school so I showed him around".
"You showed him around school by skipping school with him?" Jace asked with a sarcastic smile.
"I showed him around school and I decided to skip school and he joined me" Isabelle argued.
"Aha, and then he showed you something else?"
"Jace" Clary screeched as she slammed a hand over his shoulder, then she looked back at Izzy with interest, "Did he?"
"No, he wasn't like that"
"All guys are like that" Sebastian argued.
"He isn't" Isabelle insisted, a clear venomous tone in her voice. Sebastian narrowed his eyes but said nothing. "It wasn't like that".
Clary leaned in against Jace as she whispered to him when Isabelle looked away from them, "Iz said she thought he was hot".
"So you don't think he's hot?" Jace said loudly to Isabelle whose cheeks flushed red as she looked at Clary, knowing she blabbed.
"It's none of your business" Isabelle said with a roll of her eyes, trying to play it off as uncaring as she went back to conversation with Maia.
Clary gritted her teeth as she hissed in a whisper to Jace, "I'm gonna kill you in your sleep for that".
"You're saying you want to sleep with me tonight?" Jace whispered back with a teasing grin.
"For murderous intents? Yes" Clary said with a glare.
Jace didn't seem to even think it over for a second before he whispered "I have no problem with that. Let's go home right now".
She slapped his shoulder again and rolled her eyes with a shake of her head and he just laughed as he put an arm over her shoulder, she leaned back against him getting more comfortable.
"Cocktails are ready" Magnus said as he walked in, looking like cocktails have been ready for a few minutes and he already beat them to it.
"Vote for Seelie" Seelie said as she handed out cookies and buttons, she had posters with various encouraging statements, 'Every vote matters' and 'Vote for Seelie, a person you cat trust'.
"Sheesh, I don't think our last election had this much marketing" Clary said as Jace opened her locker for her, looking at Kaelie and Seelie and the rest of their crowd, handing out flyers.
"Does the title of princess of whatever get you anything?" Clary asked.
"Yes, you get to tell the decorating committee that their work is awful" Jace answered.
"Sounds like a heavy work for not enough privilege" Clary said with a scrunch of her nose as she wrapped a scarf around her neck, it was getting awfully cold. The storm next week is supposed to be frightening, good thing the dance was before then.
"Vote for Seelie" The two turned around when someone approached them, Kaelie.
Clary narrowed her eyes at the girl who openly ignored her, handing out cupcakes and cookies to Jace, shoving the basket of goods in his face.
"Thanks" Jace said as he took two, handing Clary one and digging into his own, not giving Kaelie a second glance. Clary didn't want to take such joy in the way Kaelie's face fell but she did as she bit down onto the cupcake.
"Mmhmm, it's good" Jace said and Clary nodded.
"I made those" Kaelie said, "I'm glad you like them. I suppose I could make more for you if you'd like".
Clary almost choked on the sweet, grinding her teeth at Kaelie's obvious flirting, as she tried to blow her head up with her mind. Sadly it didn't work.
"That's alright, I wouldn't want to overeat" Jace said, seemingly oblivious to Kaelie's flirting or perhaps he didn't care.
"I can make healthy cupcakes too" Kaelie said.
Oh sure, butcher up a great cupcake recipe, make it 'healthy', like I didn't hate you enough. Clary thought as she tried to hold back her tongue.
"You probably want to keep those muscles in check" Kaelie said as she trailed a hand over Jace's bicep.
Get your fucking hand- Clary cut her own thoughts off, having had enough, she put a hand over Jace's arm, shooing Kaelie's hand away as she said with a sickeningly sweet and suggestive tone, "Don't worry, Kaelie. Jace gets plenty of exercise for his muscles".
At the wide eyed look Kaelie gave her, she knew her point was made as her hand trailed down from Jace's arm to his hand, closing her locker and dragging him off with her. Clary walked away with purpose as Jace matched her speed with ease, seemingly happy and smiling.
"What?" Clary bit out with annoyance in her tone as she reached Mr. Starkweather's class and sat down at the last bench.
Jace sat down next to her with a chuckle as he said "You're hot when you're jealous".
"How would you know? You've never seen me jealous" Clary argued, her comeback quick on her tongue.
Jace raised one amused eyebrow as he looked at her, saying without words that she is not fooling him.
"I was not jealous" Clary bit her tongue as she narrowed her eyes at him.
"Your face is red"
"It's very hot under this scarf"
"You're fuming"
"It's my default settings"
"You said exercise" Jace said as he chuckled, shaking his head, "Admit you were jealous".
"I will do no such thing" Clary huffed out.
"Because it's not true or because you don't want to admit it?"
Clary hesitated, "That's irrelevant".
Jace laughed loudly at that as Clary pretended to be busy, pulling out her notebook. Jace put a hand over her shoulders as he leaned in, kissing her neck as he whispered in her ear, "You want to go exercise after school?"
Clary flushed red, "Shut up" she whispered, her tone sounding breathless as she looked away from him. She couldn't believe she actually said exercise. He continued to pepper kisses on her neck and jaw.
"Well we need to keep in shape, don't we?" Jace said with a chuckle.
She turned around to meet his gaze, intending to yell, when she realized their faces were so close. His eyes were looking at her with a certain wonder that she only ever saw when he looked at her, they casted down to her lips and back up to her eyes, her eyes followed his movement before she leaned over and kissed him.
Fire pooled in her stomach at the feeling of Jace kissing her, it was somehow both so familiar and so new. He kissed her with a passion that always shocked her to her very core, how she could taste his want for her on his tongue.
"Mr. Herondale, Miss Fray. Please keep your respective tongues in your own mouths" Mr. Starkweather said, making them both breakaway from each other.
"Thank the Angel" they both looked to their side where they saw Isabelle sitting next to them.
"When did you get here?" Clary asked blushing.
"Too long ago" Isabelle said with a shake of her head.
