Chapter 32
Levy's heart was pounding wildly. Tears ran down her cheeks as the worst case scenario played in her mind. Her feet just didn't carry her fast enough. A horn honked beside her.
"Shrimp, get in!"
Without a second thought, she climbed in the car and Gajeel hit the gas pedal. A million things ran through her mind. The hospital seemed so far away even with Gajeel driving well over the speed limit. The sound of a phone ringing broke the nerve-racking silence in the vehicle.
"Hello?" Levy didn't hesitate as she practically slammed her phone to her ear.
"Ms. Mcgarden, this is Detective North. We were just called with information concerning your son. A child that matches his description was abandoned at Magnolia General Hospital."
"Detective North, I am nearly at the hospital. I received a text from the suspected kidnappers and was informed to go there. Is my son alright?"
"I am unaware of the details, miss. I am on my way up there also."
"I'm pulling in now." Levy hung up and ran through the main entrance of the hospital. Gajeel, Lucy, and Natsu were right on her heels.
Levy slammed her hands on the counter, startling the nurses. "The child that was brought in! I am his mother! Where is he?!"
"Ma'am, please calm down. I will find out for you."
Levy numbly nodded and sat down in a chair, bouncing her legs. An anxious look twisted her features. It felt like hours before the nurse came back when in reality it was maybe two or three minutes. The look on the nurse's face, was like a knife the Gajeel's gut. He knew that the news she was bringing, would not be good.
"Ma'am, your son is in the the PICU in critical condition. He suffered severe third degree burns to his entire left arm and torso. The doctor is on his way to speak to you. If you follow me, I will show you the way to the PICU waiting area."
Levy had tears streaming down her face. The group followed the nurse silently to a waiting area full of child toys and chairs. She turned and gave a sympathetic smile.
"The doctor will-" The nurse was cut off by a loud alarm. Another nurse ran by, when the nurse with us asked her what was going on.
In a rush, she explained. "The little burn victim coded."
Gajeel barely caught Levy as she collapsed.
