-Chapter-thirty five-

-Cass pov-

I've been working on set list all morning today. Finally have the theme for December's competition. It's will be Christmas wonderland! I think it sounds really good.

I just hope the two groups I made for the two possible choices actually try. I don't want a repeat of the duet tryouts. I sigh and look at the songs in front of me. It's now or never Cass.

I stand from my desk and walk toward the library. I remember Fran said she wanted to talk to me. On my way I see a group of students in a wall formation. I sprint into action when I hear a locker get slammed.

"MOVE!" I push my way through and see a football player standing in front of Kate and grace "What's going on?"

"Ask him!" The football player points toward a boy on the ground I hadn't seen "He's the weirdo bothering the girls! I came when he slammed the door to littler ones locker"

"Everyone get to class minus you four!" Everyone disperses and I pick the boy up of the ground "What were you doin?"

"I was trying to talk to them" He glares at their direction "Instead they held hands and said please leave them alone"

"You wouldn't stop asking us out!" Kate looks at me "He asked Grace then me"

I look at grace who nods "The boy helped us" I look at the boy who gives a small nod "According to the back of his jacket his last name is Rosco"

"It's Evan Rosco" He holds his hand out "Quaterback of the football and Vice President of the school LGBT group!"

"Well I'll need a witness for all of this" I sigh and look at the boy who caused it "Follow me and let's get this over with"

So much for just two group numbers and leaving huh?

-Time skip-

The boy that caused issues earlier name was apparently Jackson. He got a no contact agreement given to him. His mouth got him suspended for a week, then a month, then two months, and then expelled. Gotta love close minded people.

Now we are in glee and they are talking. I get the music sheets ready and look at the groups again. I double check I have the right people in each group and then step back. Time to get the group number assigned!

"Alright! I got the theme and two possible group formations!" I turn toward the club "The theme is winter wonderland! Soloist and dueters! If you wanna discuss possible options I'm available whenever! Now I'm gonna hand out the papers and the group that has a one on the top goes first!"

I hand out papers and see the frowns when they aren't picked. Should I have done this? I thought it would be good to do. Was this not the better option?

I keep my emotions at bay as the number ones come up. It's a girl name Candy, one named Angie, a guy named Doug, and Jasmine.

Come, they told me (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)

A newborn king to see (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)

Our finest gifts we bring (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)

To lay before the king (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)

(Rum-pa-pum-pum)

(Rum-pa-pum-pum)

So, to honor Him (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)

When we come

Baby Jesus (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)

I am a poor boy too (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)

I have no gifts to bring (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)

That's fit to give a king (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)

(Rum-pa-pum-pum)

(Rum-pa-pum-pum)

Shall I play for you (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)

On my drum?

Mary nodded (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)

The ox and lass kept time (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)

I played my drum for Him (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)

I played my best for Him (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)

(Rum-pa-pum-pum)

(Rum-pa-pum-pum)

Then, He smiled at me (pa-rum-pa-pum-pum)

Me and my drum

Me and my drum

The seated kids clap and the group bows. I did them cause they have a nice blend. Angie is low enough to sing baritone to dougs bass. This next one though is a bit of a toss up.

It's a bunch of Altos and Sapranos. I have Kate, Sugar, a girl named Liz, and a girl named Hallie. Grace was one of the frowning ones earlier. I knew I was a bad teacher. I turn away as they get to the front to wipe the tear that falls.

"Hang on a second" Sugar is soon in front of me "You ok?"

"Yeah" I take a deep breath and nod "Go and start the group number!"

She doesn't look convinced but nods. She walks away and I get everything under control. I turn and they begin their song. I hope I picked right.

"Bah, humbug!" but that's too strong,

'Cause it is my favorite holiday.

But all this year's been a busy blur

Don't think I have the energy

To add to my already mad rush

Just 'cause it's 'tis the season.

The perfect gift for me would be

Completions and connections left from

Last year, ski shop,

Encounter, most interesting.

Had his number but never the time

Most of '81 passed along those lines.

So deck those halls, trim those trees

Raise up cups of Christmas cheer,

I just need to catch my breath,

Christmas by myself this year.

Calendar picture, frozen landscape,

Chilled this room for twenty-four days,

Evergreens, sparkling snow

Get this winter over with!

Flashback to springtime, saw him again,

Would've been good to go for lunch,

Couldn't agree when we were both free,

We tried, we said we'd keep in touch.

Didn't, of course, 'til summertime,

Out to the beach to his boat could I join him?

No, this time it was me,

Sunburn in the third degree.

Now the calendar's just one page

Of course, I am excited

Tonight's the night, I've set my mind

Not to do too much about it.

Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!

But I think I'll miss this one this year.

Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!

But I think I'll miss this one this year.

Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!

But I think I'll miss this one this year.

Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!

But I think I'll miss this one this year.

A has provided me

With the world's smallest turkey

Already in the oven, nice and hot

Oh damn! Guess what I forgot?

So on with the boots, back out in the snow

To the only all-night grocery,

When what to my wondering eyes should appear

In the line is that guy I've been chasing all year!

"I'm spending this one alone," he said.

"Need a break; this year's been crazy."

I said, "Me too, but why are you?

You mean you forgot cranberries too?"

Then suddenly we laughed and laughed

Caught on to what was happening

That Christmas magic's brought this tale

To a very happy ending

Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!

Couldn't miss this one this year!

Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!

Couldn't miss this one this year!

Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!

Couldn't miss this one this year!

Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!

Couldn't miss this one this year!

The kids clap again and the group takes a bow. I don't really realize everyone is waiting on me till a few minutes of silence. I look up and see a bunch of worried eyes. I stand up and go to speak but get cut off.

"You ok teach?" A ginger girl tilts her head and looks at me "You seem upset"

"Am I a good teacher?" I see them all look at each other confused then confused at me "I wanna be the teacher you all need..I wanna be a friend to you and your teacher..I know it's a line that should be drawn separately but I don't want it! I look around this room and I see talent! But seeing the frowns when I didn't pick you frightens me...seeing the disappointment and disapproval frightens me"

"It's not at you" One of the more popular girls stands up "We love what you do! It's just some of us...we never had a real outlet till you came here"

"I was friends with her till high school" Liz pushes up her glasses "Then social cliques came and we separated because we had nothing similar to join in"

"But now we have this" The popular girl smiles at Liz "I got my friend back!"

Sugar stands up and walks to me "You see?" She smiles and motions to the club "We all love you!"

"Really?" They all nod and smile as tears start to fall "Thank you!"

We share a huge group hug and I feel so loved. My dancing class is all I've ever had. Now I have this glee club and a family at home. I'm loved more than I have ever been.

"So" Liz smiles shyly "Which group won?"

"I actually wanted you all to pick" I hold up some cards "Get your pens and papers"

"No" Doug smiles "We think you should pick"

"Really?" They nod and I look at them all before taking a deep breath "Ok...I really enjoyed both groups...but I think the drummer boy will work best in the long run! But if you work together you may just be able to get the next group spot!"

"You heard her!" Liz looks at her group "Let's work!"

I smile as the club disperses into different groups. It's not popular and unpopular groups either. It's mixed people talking about music. It's what glee is supposed to be.

I finally see the proof I may be a good teacher. I just hope I can keep this going.
