Chapter 35: Christmas

Drew reached in his pocket and pulled out something. A holly. His right arm is wrapped around May's neck as she stares at the snow falling from the sky. Her head is resting on Drew's shoulder.

Drew raised his left hand up with the holly and held it over their heads. He smiled and looked at May. "Hey look. Mistletoe." He said.

May lifted her head off of Drew's shoulder and looked up at the mistletoe that Drew is holding above them. She smiled and looked at Drew.

Without saying anything, they both leaned in and pressed their lips against the other's. Drew's hand slowly fell to his side.

When they pulled apart, they both smiled. "I finally got my kiss under mistletoe." Drew said.

"Well, last year we didn't need it to share our first kiss." May said. "And the year before that, I probably would've been too embarrassed to kiss someone who wasn't even my boyfriend yet."

"Well, I'm going to make sure this Christmas is magical."

"And how will you do that?"

"Today…" Drew pulled out a rose and brought his arm back to him, pulling it away from May's neck. He held out the rose to May. "...I'm taking you on a Christmas date."

May smiled and accepted the rose. She smelled its aroma before looking up at Drew. "Where are we going?"

"How does frozen yogurt sound to you?"

"Fro-yo? In Winter?"

"Why not? Am I right?"

May smiled. "You absolutely are correct. I love frozen yogurt."

"Then we'll go to the frozen yogurt place later."

May leaned in and gave Drew a quick peck on the lips. "Sounds good."

They stayed silent for a moment before Drew leaned in again and claimed May's mouth. They always love kissing each other. And he just couldn't resist.

May and Drew are at a frozen yogurt place that's called Vanillite's. They have some time away from royal duties, so Drew took May on this Christmas date. They entered the restaurant and found a table.

May slid into a booth. "I'll get you your ice cream." Drew said. "What flavor do you want?"

May smiled. "You pick for me."

Drew smiled. He leaned down and kissed May on her forehead. "I'll be right back." He walked away from the table.

May watched Drew walk away, blushing slightly. She saw him talk to the cashier and the cashier immediately went to get their fro-yo. He's probably rushing it because he doesn't want to make the King and Queen wait.

After three minutes, May smiled when she saw Drew walking back to her, holding two cups of ice cream. She scooted further in the booth and Drew sat down next to her.

He placed a cup in front of May. "Strawberry ice cream with sprinkles, strawberries, and oreos on top for you."

"Wow...it looks so good." May said. She looked at Drew. "Thanks, Drew."

Drew smiled and nodded. He looked at his ice cream. "As for me, I got a vanilla and chocolate swirl ice cream with chocolate and strawberries on top."

May took her spoon and took her first bite. Her body shivered and she's smiling. "Mmm...so good!"

They both continued to eat their ice cream while talking in between bites. "So, whoever said that it's crazy to love eating ice cream in the Winter is truly the crazy one." Drew said.

"I totally agree." May said. "Ice cream in winter is great!"

Drew chuckled at May. May looked at Drew in confusion.

Drew took a napkin. "You have a little something there." He said, wiping around May's mouth. May blushed.

May laughed nervously. "I always make a mess when I eat, don't I?"

"Yeah." Drew laughed a little. "It's cute."

May's blush deepened. "C-cute?"

Drew stared at May for a moment before smirking. "The cutest." He said before continuing to eat.

May composed herself and continued eating as well. She can't help but blush every time Drew calls her cute. Her heart always flutters when Drew compliments her like that. Why is he so good at being romantic?

"So, it's almost New Year's Day." Drew said. "I'm excited to actually be right by your side when you launch those fireworks in the sky."

"I'm excited too." May said. "But I won't be lighting up the fireworks."

Drew froze. "You won't?"

May shook her head. "Nope. You will."

"What? I will?" Drew asked incredulously.

May nodded and then smiled. "It will mark your first New Year as a royal, so I decided that you should do the honors."

Drew smiled. "Well...I'd be honored to. I want to mark every moment that's a first as a royal. And I'll always treasure our moments together."

May smiled. They both continued eating. After a minute, May asks, "Can I try some of your ice cream?"

Drew dipped his spoon into his ice cream and lifted it up. He looked at May and held it out to her in front of her mouth. May opened her mouth and closed it on the spoon. She pulled back, scraping the ice cream off.

"Mmm...yummy!" May said. "Your turn." She did the same thing Drew did.

She fed Drew a spoonful of her ice cream. "It's really good." Drew said after swallowing.

May smiled brightly. "Do you have any other Christmas plans for us later?"

Drew smirked. "Wouldn't you like to know?"

May furrowed her eyebrows. "I would!"

"Well...you'll just have to wait and see."

May smiled. "So...there is something else planned."

Drew flicked his bangs. "I guess I can't keep anything from you, huh?"

"Nope."

"Well...all I have planned is a ride and your Christmas present."

"Fun!"

"So eat up and we'll head out."

May and Drew are home now and at the stable. They entered it and went to their Rapidash.

"Ready to ride, girl?" May asked her Rapidash.

Rapidash neighed happily. May opened her Rapidash's stall. Rapidash walked out and May faced Drew.

"Where are we riding too?" May asked.

Drew opened up his Rapidash's stall. "Wherever the wind takes us." Drew's Rapidash left the stable with May's. Drew entered Rapidash's stall and picked up the saddle that's at the corner of it.

Drew and May exited the stable. Drew put the saddle on his Rapidash and strapped him up. "Okay. Let's ride." Drew said, climbing up and sitting on his saddle.

May climbed on her Rapidash. "Lead the way."

Drew signaled his Rapidash to walk. May followed them. She caught up and they're riding side-by-side off of castle grounds.

"So, about my present…" May started.

"Not a chance." Drew said.

May sighed. "Fine…"

They left Petalburg City and continued on the snowy ground. Their Rapidash are slowly walking through the snow. And then May felt something wet land on her head.

May looked up at the sky. She gasped. "Drew, it's snowing!" She said excitedly.

Drew looked up to see the snow falling. "You're right. And we just left." He looked at May. "Do you want to continue the ride?"

May looked at Drew and smiled. "Of course, silly. It's just snow. Let's run!" Her Rapidash took off after her command.

Drew watched May go and he smiled. "We can't let her win, right?"

Rapidash neighed in affirmation.

"So let's go!" Drew whipped the rein, signaling his Rapidash to run.

They took off after May and caught up to her. She laughed as they ran through the snow. "Try and keep up!" May called to Drew.

"I'll try to not leave you in my dust!" Drew called back.

(This song is "The Great Divide" from Tinkerbell and the Secret of the Wings.)

May and Drew made it to an open field. They're riding on their Rapidash through the snow with bright smiles on their faces. "I never knew I lost you 'til I found you." May sang. "And I never guessed how close you were to me. And now I wanna throw my arms around you. Tell a thousand tales that will astound you." May and Drew looked at each other. "Everything about you tells me this was meant to be. Don't you see?"

They both faced forward and May released Rapidash's mane, stretching her arms out like a plane. "I'm on your side." May sang. "Let's take this ride. And together we're facing the world, doing things nobody's done before. And the great divide doesn't seem so wide anymore." She grabbed onto Rapidash's mane again.

Both Rapidash ran in certain directions, making shapes in the snow. They met in the middle and continued running side-by-side through the open field. "I can't recall what life was like without you." May continued. "Now it feels as though we've never been apart. Tell me every tiny thing about you. Anything you'll say I'll never doubt you. We're meant to be together. I can feel it in my heart. It's just the start."

Both Rapidash ran side to side, forming the DNA shape in the snow. May and Drew smiled at each other as May continued singing. "I'm on your side. Let's take this ride. And together we're facing the world, doing things nobody's done before. And the great divide doesn't seem so wide."

Both Rapidash came to a stop and they slowly walked towards each other. "And if you'll be there beside me when I falter." May sang. "Then whatever comes I know we'll take it all in stride. I'm on your side." They sped up and ran in a circle as if chasing each other.

"The great divide." May continued. "Doesn't seem so wide."

"I'm on your side." She sang. "Let's take this ride." The Rapidash stopped running in a circle and they ran side-by-side again. "And together we're facing the world, doing things nobody's done before. And the great divide doesn't seem so wide anymore." She finished and they came to a stop.

May and Drew looked at each other. After a moment, May found herself giggling. Drew looked at her in confusion.

"You have snow in your hair." May said, moving her Rapidash closer to Drew's.

Drew saw May reach out and run her hand through his hair, shaking out the snow. He blushed slightly. Even though he doesn't like people touching his hair, it always feels nice when May does it.

Drew pulled back a little. No matter what, he should still keep his cool. "I thought I told you not to touch my hair."

May giggled. "You know you liked it."

Drew blushed. "Umm...that's still no reason to touch my hair."

"Isn't it?"

After a moment, Drew sighed and then smiled at May. He grabbed his sword's grip. "Teleport."

A perfectly wrapped present appeared in front of May. May looked at the red and green box with curiosity.

"What's this?" She asked.

"Your present." Drew answered.

May looked at Drew. "I count today as my present. You don't have to give me something."

Drew smiled. "I know. But like I always say, I want to."

May smiled and took the box. Drew released his sword's grip. May pulled out her scepter. She teleported a present to Drew as well from the castle. Drew took the bag and looked at May.

"You first." Drew said.

"Kay." May said. She unwrapped her gift and now stared at a black box. She carefully took off the lid and gasped at what she saw.

It's a rose, but it looks like it's made out of crystals. The stem is golden and the leaves and petals are beautiful blue, pink, purple, and white colors.

May looked at Drew with happiness in her eyes.

"Like it?" Drew asked. "It's called a galaxy rose."

May took the rose out of its box and she stared at it, seeing the light from the sun reflect on the beautiful crystal petals. "I love it, Drew." She looked up at Drew. "It's so beautiful."

Drew smiled. "But no rose can ever be more beautiful than you."

May blushed and put the galaxy rose back in its box. She looked back up at Drew. "Your turn."

"Okay." Drew said. He looked down and took the tissue paper out of his present. He looked at what was inside the bag. "Wow. You got me multiple things."

"Maybe it'll be enough to make up how much this galaxy rose cost." May said.

"Maybe." Drew reached in the bag and pulled out a black wallet with white words engraved on the front. "I love you for all that you are, all that you have been, and all that you're meant to be." He read. He looked up at May and smiled. "Aww…"

May blushed. "Just continue."

Drew looked down and pulled a green scarf out of the bag. "This is incredibly soft." Drew said incredulously.

"Put it on."

Drew wrapped the scarf around his neck once, letting the ends hang down his chest.

"It looks so good on you!" May gushed. "Do you like it?"

Drew looked at May. "It's so soft. Of course I like it."

"Do you really?" May asked, smiling.

"Yeah."

"Really?"

Drew smirked. "How many times do I have to confirm it, March?"

"Just...one more time."

Drew sighed before smiling at May again. "I love this scarf, June."

May smiled brightly. "Great!"

Drew looked down at his present again and he pulled out the last item. Without saying anything, he just smiled at the last item in his hands.

May waited for Drew to say anything about the last item. "Well?"

Drew looked at May and turned the last item around to show May. He's holding a gold picture frame. "Someone took a picture of us?" He asked.

"Yeah...sorry about that…" May said. "I just wanted to make sure I gave you the perfect picture."

The picture that's in the frame is a picture taken today when Drew and May kissed under the mistletoe that Drew held above their heads. There's snow falling in the picture and their lips are pressed together. The frame has cute little decorations on it. There's hollys on the corners and some hearts and snowflakes on the sides.

"Do you like it?" May asked shyly.

Drew looked back at the picture. He smiled on the inside. When he looked back up at May, he smirked.

May saw the smirk and she looked at him in confusion. "Umm...what's with the smirk?"

"Well...I don't know how I feel about someone taking a picture of us kissing…"

"I'm sorry. I just-"

Drew cut May off by pressing his index finger to her lips. "I love the picture." He lowered his hand from her mouth.

"Y-you do?" May stuttered.

Drew nodded. May smiled. "But…" Drew said.

May's smile faded. "But...what?"

"I did think that the kiss earlier was private." Drew started. "So since it wasn't…"

May waited for Drew to continue. What's he getting at?

Drew just smiled at May's confused expression. That only made May more confused.

Without saying anything else, Drew tossed his gift bag on the snow. He then cupped May's neck and leaned in, pressing his lips against hers. May was quick to close her eyes and kiss back.

Once Drew backed away, they both opened their eyes and smiled. "What was that kiss for?" May asked.

"I just thought that we needed a private kiss today."

May blushed and laughed nervously.

"So, why don't we head back home?" Drew asked.

May smiled and nodded. "Okay. Thank you for the wonderful date today like always."

"You're welcome. Today was fun."

"Yeah. It sure was."
