"We're generally overconfident in our opinions and our impressions and judgments."
―Daniel Kahneman
Rumi could not help but snicker in amusement as the students began to act like they had just encountered a demon of the battlefield.
Jirou seemed to be frozen in shock, Kaminari appeared to have fainted standing up, and Mineta had run away screaming in terror. While most of the students seemed to be very intimidated, a few immediately stepped to the front to protect their friends. Out of the four students that stepped forward, two of them were familiar faces. The red-haired boy named Kirishima and the tall boy with glasses named Iida. The other two were definitely more unique looking, one had the head of some kind of black bird, and the other was tall enough to rival Izuku while also having multiple arms.
Holding up his hands to calm the students, Izuku spoke slowly so as not to scare anyone. "Everyone just calm down, I am not here to antagonize any of you. This whole thing is just one big coincidence. I am simply here on a date with my girlfriend."
Even though she was in disguise, Rumi still felt an excited tingle run down her spine as Izuku publicly announced that she was his girlfriend.
From the looks on the kids' faces, most of them were not fully convinced by Izuku's explanation.
"How can we be sure this is not some kind of weird test of yours?" The pink girl named Ashido said accusingly. "Last time we saw you, you put almost all of us in the infirmary! Even Eraserhead seemed to be wary of you!"
Rumi glanced back at her boyfriend and did her best not to laugh out loud at Ashido's words.
"Did you not read the letters I sent to you?" Izuku replied bluntly. "It was all a test, practice for the real thing. I have no intention of harassing any of you."
Stepping forward with shaking knees, Uraraka avoided meeting Izuku's gaze as she spoke. "S-so...you really did not mean any of that...stuff you said to me?"
Seemingly insulted by the mere suggestion that he would purposefully verbally attack a teenager, Izuku let go of Rumi's hand and crossed his arms. "Of course not! I was trying to make you overcome your biggest weaknesses. What I told you all about my past is true, I would never bully someone like I was when I was a kid."
There was a ripple of confused murmurs from the group at the sudden revelation. Then Rumi's enhanced hearing picked up a snippet of conversation between a frog-like girl and Ashido.
"You never mentioned that he was bullied as a kid." The girl said in a slightly confused tone.
"W-well…" Ashido stuttered out embarrassedly. "I kinda...forgot about that stuff. In my defense I was still a little dazed from getting shot in the head!"
Rolling his eyes, Izuku turned to leave. "It seems you all still have a lot of growing up to do. Now if you will excuse me, I want to enjoy some time with my girlfriend."
A mischievous idea forming in her head, Rumi grabbed Izuku's hand to prevent him from leaving. "Wait, is that girl the one who beat you? The one who punched you in the balls? That is fucking hilarious!"
Uraraka immediately blushed bright red as the rest of the students laughed in amusement.
Turning around and fixing Rumi with an annoyed stare, Izuku let out a heavy sigh. "To clarify, I let her beat me. She was the only one who took me by surprise and I decided not to drag the fight out any longer than it needed to be."
Seemingly broken out of her shocked silence, Jirou spoke up and asked Rumi a question. "Did he tell you about his visit to our school with Miruko?"
Glad that her disguise was effective enough to fool a crowd of people, Rumi nodded vigorously as she teasingly poked Izuku's arm. "He told me all about it. He doesn't like to admit it, but he had a lot of fun sparring with you guys. He acts like a hardass with people he wants to help."
That statement seemed to stun the assembled teens, but before Rumi could enjoy the moment she felt Izuku's hand squeeze her arm.
"What the fuck are you doing?" Izuku said quietly through gritted teeth.
Putting on a ditzy expression, Rumi gave Izuku her best innocent look. "What?"
Huffing in annoyance, Izuku let go of Rumi's arm and suddenly turned to face the crowd of teenagers.
Specifically Uraraka.
"Come to think of it, Miruko actually wanted to talk to you." He said with a devious grin.
"She did?!" Rumi and Uraraka said incredulously in unison.
Nodding, Izuku continued to talk with a smirk on his face. "Yup, she was going to send you a formal letter, but now is as good a time as any to tell you. She was very impressed with how you managed to defeat me."
Now it was Rumi's turn to subtly grip Izuku's arm and begin applying pressure warningly.
"Izuku…" She muttered under her breath so only her boyfriend could hear. "Don't you fucking dare say what I think you are about to say."
Obviously ignoring his girlfriend's warning, Izuku continued to talk to Uraraka with a devious smile on his face.
"You were interning under Ryukyu, right?" Izuku said in a friendly tone. "Since she is still recovering from her injuries, I assume you need a new pro-hero to intern with. Miruko said she would be willing to have you as her intern until Ryukyu returns to duty."
Doing her best to resist punching her boyfriend in the gut, Rumi silently groaned in annoyance as the group of teenagers began to congratulate the speechless Uraraka.
The loudest voice belonged to Kirishima. "Holy crap Uraraka! You get to intern with Miruko! She has never had an intern before! I can't wait to tell the others!"
As the teens continued to chatter excitedly, Rumi turned to glare at her boyfriend.
"What the fuck did you do Izuku!?" She hissed angrily. "I thought we agreed that interns were a bad idea!"
Smiling at his pissed off girlfriend, Izuku put on his best innocent face. "Well since you decided to talk for me I figured it was okay to talk for you. Think of it as practice if we ever have kids."
Now that was totally unfair.
Rumi could feel her face blush bright red (or purple?), as a giddy smile formed on her face.
"Well...I mean…" She said slowly as fantasies of what their kids would look like danced through her head. "Fine...but you are going to help as well."
If Rumi's lust had been smoldering before, it was now a blazing inferno. It took all of her self-control not to drag Izuku off to a secluded area and have her way with him.
Ashido's excited voice interrupted Rumi's fantasies as she spoke to Jirou.
"So why did you want me to meet Agent Midoriya?" The pink-skinned girl asked with obvious confusion.
Jirou shook her head and pointed at Rumi. "Not him, her. She beat your high score on the dancing game. She got one hundred percent even while throwing in a few extra moves of her own."
Now that certainly got everyone's attention. Immediately the teens all crowded around Jirou as she played the video on her smartphone. After many incredulous remarks and noises, the teens all focused their eyes on Rumi.
"That was amazing!" Ashido said in awe. "Are you a professional dancer?"
Not prepared for the sudden questioning, Rumi was glad to see Izuku take over and give her a cover story.
"Yes she is." The green-haired man stated. "She is a dance choreographer and has worked with many of the biggest music labels in Japan."
It looked like Ashido had just found a new role model, as her eyes widened in amazement she ran over to Rumi to shake her hand.
"Ohmygod that is awesome!" Ashido yelled loudly. "I love dancing! Could you teach me a few things? Please!"
Rumi shrugged as she shook Ashido's hand. "Not right now since I am on a date. If we ever run into each other again maybe I can teach you then."
Apparently not deterred in the slightest, Ashido nodded eagerly as she inspected Izuku. "Great! What made you want to go out with Agent Midoriya? I honestly pictured him to be one of those guys that is way too dedicated to his job to date anyone."
Immediately Jirou grabbed Ashido by the arm and pulled her away.
"Sorry, she gets too excited about love talk." The purple-haired girl explained apologetically. "I know we interrupted your date and I appreciate you talking to us."
"HOLD IT!" The short cowardly boy known as Mineta shouted as he jumped to the front of the group. "Agent Midoriya! I challenge you to a battle! You may be able to beat us in real life, but Kaminari and I are undefeatable behind a screen! You versus us, what do you say?"
Laughing lightly at the sudden bravado from the cowardly boy, Rumi glanced over at her boyfriend to see how he would respond.
"No." Izuku said flatly. "I have better things to do than play games with kids. If you ever manage to get a girlfriend you will understand."
The assembled teens laughed at the unexpected retort as Mineta's face turned tomato red.
"You stupid normie!" Mineta yelled indignantly. "I bet you are just afraid we will beat you! Like how Uraraka took you down with one punch!"
Rumi was having a great time watching the exchange between Izuku and Mineta, and could not help but cackle as Izuku's face darkened.
"Like I said, I let her win." The green-haired agent said coldly. "But if you are that desperate to get your ass handed to you in your own game, I guess I have no choice but to indulge you."
Immediately Kaminari and Mineta ran over to a bank of virtual reality machines and struck a pose like they were action movie heroes.
"The game is we are playing is Call of FieldBattle!" Kaminari announced loudly. "Each person gets five lives, and whoever runs out of lives loses. The game mode will be team deathmatch! All weapons are allowed!"
Sighing in annoyance, Izuku walked over to the virtual reality machines and inspected the equipment. "Let's just get this over with."
As Kaminari, Mineta, and Izuku connected themselves to the virtual reality machines, everyone else looked to several large TV screens hanging from the ceiling.
An arena filled with obstacles and various structures materialized and was soon followed by the three players. Kaminari's avatar looked very similar to him, but was clad in chrome combat armor. Mineta's avatar on the other hand, was the complete opposite of the real thing. On the screen, MIneta had become a six foot tall muscular man with perfectly styled black hair. Izuku's avatar was a generic player model, a simple soldier wearing combat armor and a gas mask.
"Mineta, could your character be any more different?" Yaoyorozu said with obvious disdain. "Clearly you are overcompensating."
"It is a game! I am allowed to look like whatever I want!" Mineta said indignantly. "If you have a problem with it feel free to leave."
A timer floated up in the middle of the arena and began to count down as the three players readied their weapons. Kaminari and Mineta were both armed with futuristic assault rifles, while Izuku seemed to have picked a large handgun.
"Haha! What a noob!" Mineta jeered. "If you think a handgun can win against assault rifles you must be crazy!"
Kaminari, unlike his partner, seemed to be a little more wary of the silent Izuku.
"Mineta don't try to show off." The electric teen said warningly. "Just take him out as quickly as possible."
Completely disregarding his comrade's advice, the second the battle began Mineta charged forward cackling evilly. Izuku, on the other hand, did not move when the match began, seemingly busy inspecting his handgun.
Obviously intent on getting the first kill, Mineta made a beeline straight for Izuku at high speed. Jumping over a high wall, Mineta took aim at the motionless Izuku. However, before Mineta could even pull the trigger, he exploded into colorful pixels as Izuku nonchalantly fired a single shot into his skull.
As the audience marvelled at Izuku's reaction speed and accuracy, Kaminari sighed heavily and shook his head in disappointment.
"Kinda what I expected to happen." The red-haired teen said in a depressed manner. "Agent Midoriya is on a whole different level than these guys."
Rumi smirked as she nodded proudly. "There is a difference between using a gun in a videogame and using a gun in real life. If anything, putting Izuku in a videogame made it easier for him."
Respawning in a puff of smoke, Mineta growled angrily as Kaminari laughed at him.
"Beginner's luck!" The short boy said irritably.
"Whatever you say Mineta." Kaminari said with an amused snort. "Now will you fight together with me?"
Mineta grumbled unhappily but nodded as Kaminari racked the slide of his assault rifle.
"Good." Kaminari said smugly. "You go left, I will go right. Then we attack him from both sides."
Suddenly, music began playing from the speakers.
"Oops." Izuku said mockingly. "Looks like I found the music option. You boys dont mind do you?"
Not bothering to reply, Kaminari and Mineta split up and charged towards Izuku. On screen, Izuku had casually walked into some sort of trench maze and waited as his opponents homed in on him. The music, originally some sort of upbeat pop song, had morphed into an almost demonic techno style song, complete with distorted words screaming about blood, murder, and various other evil acts.
Rumi actually kinda enjoyed the music, and she watched eagerly as Izuku sprung his trap.
As Kaminari rounded a corner, he found his face pressed against the muzzle of Izuku's handgun and was subsequently reduced to pixels. A second later, Mineta jumped over a pile of sandbags with his gun at the ready. Cool as ice, Izuku shot Mineta's trigger hand, which threw off the teens' aim. Before Mineta could get his character to recover, Izuku had put a rapid double tap into Mineta's head, killing the digital character instantly.
As Kaminari and Mineta respawned, it seemed that Izuku had gotten bored of waiting and was commencing his own attack. Before the two boys could even get out of the spawn area, Izuku had jumped on top of a nearby bunker and ruthlessly gunned them down.
"Shit! He is spawn trapping us!" Kaminari said in a panic as Mineta screamed angrily.
Respawning in a different location, both Kaminari and Mineta immediately threw down smoke grenades to mask their movements before jumping behind the nearest cover.
Casually reloading his pistol, Izuku began walking towards his prey.
"This is almost too easy." Izuku said mockingly. "No recoil, and instant bullet travel? I wish guns behaved like this in real life."
"Kuh! He is mocking us!" Mineta said in an overly exaggerated voice.
Blindly spraying bullets over the wall he was behind, Kaminari seemed to be more frustrated with his partner than Izuku.
"You really just had to go challenge him!" Kaminari said angrily as he rolled behind a car and tried shooting at Izuku. "The guy has a girlfriend! He is in a totally different league than us!"
Frantic, Mineta began wildly throwing grenades in Izuku's general direction. "Shut up! Adults are supposed to be bad at videogames!"
In a few short minutes, it was down to just Kaminari. Mineta had lost his composure and was subsequently hunted down and executed by Izuku, leaving Kaminari with only one life left.
Aiming his weapon down a narrow hallway, Kaminari slowly crept through a dark abandoned factory.
"This totally sucks." The teen said despondently. "I just wanted to show off to everyone. It wasn't supposed to end like this."
Like a deadly shadow, Izuku silently snuck up behind the clueless Kaminari with something in hand.
Watching the screens with everyone else, Iida robotically moved his arms around as he spoke. "They underestimated Agent Midoriya, a costly mistake."
Suddenly, Izuku struck. Wrapping a metal cable around Kaminari's neck, Izuku threw the other end of the cable over one of the ceiling supports and yanked the Kaminari's digital character up like an old fashioned noose.
As the audience gasped in shock at the brutal end of the match, Rumi was trying her best not to cheer loudly and rub the defeat in the teens' faces.
After a few seconds of struggling, Kaminari's character went limp and burst into a cloud of colorful pixels, signalling Izuku's victory.
Shutting down the virtual reality machines, Mineta and Kaminari returned to their friends with their heads hanging in shame.
Returning to Rumi, Izuku gave the assembled teens a blank stare. "Alright, playtime is over. Next time you would be better off fighting me using your quirks."
Latching onto her boyfriend's arm proudly, Rumi gave class 1-A a cheeky grin. "Sorry guys, but Izuku and I have plans. See you next time."
Leaving the students of class 1-A to add another story to Izuku's infamy, Rumi and the green-haired agent casually browsed a few more games before leaving the game center.
As soon as they got into Izuku's car, Rumi had pulled her boyfriend in for an intense kiss.
"I love you so much." She said breathily with a slight blush on her face. "Were you serious when you mentioned having...umm...kids?"
As Izuku smiled warmly, Rumi could swear her heart skipped a few beats.
"It was the heat of the moment…" Izuku admitted. "But I meant every word. We still have plenty of time to think it over."
Wishing she could save a picture of the love-filled smile on her boyfriend's face, Rumi simply pulled him in for another kiss.
The future seemed very bright for Rumi, and she knew that as long as Izuku was with her everything would be alright.
