Maura walked up to the house and let herself in with her keys. Jane's car was parked in the driveway and her heart made some summersaults when she thought about the evening and weekend which was ahead of them. It was Friday night, and she wasn't on call.
The day had been long and weary with a complicated case. The autopsy had proofed to be tricky with an extremely complicated case of death because the victim had been tortured, shot and stabbed. It had taken her some time to figure which of these had caused the victim to die. And more time to figure how it must have gone down. The fact that it could have equally been done by one or several persons didn't help either.
But she had managed to sort it out. Hence, she felt exhausted but also satisfied. Now she longed for a relaxing evening with Jane. First, she would take a shower and change into yoga pants and a shirt. Then a glass of wine and some meal before watching TV and resting in her woman's arms. A smile curled up her lips when she smelt food.
"Honey, I'm home." She yelled into the house while kicking of her shoes. How long and how often had she dreamt about doing so in her dreams? And now her dreams had come true. Padding towards the kitchen she found Jane behind the stove. A bottle of juice in her hand, music playing loud in the background and the tall figure dancing to the rhythm while some Indian dish was simmering away on the stove.
"Oh, hey baby." Jane grinned, when seeing Maura leaning in the doorway with an amused smile.
"Hi." Maura grinned and walked closer to pull Jane into an embrace. Jane bent down her head and kissed Maura slowly onto the mouth. "Are you hungry?" she asked, and Maura nodded. "Can I take a shower first?"
"Sure. Dinner will take about ten more minutes. And I still have to set the table." She smiled softly, feeling like they were still in the exciting phase of having to get accustomed to living with each other and develop a routine.
She laughed hard when Maura padded out of the kitchen, swaying her rear to the music too overdone to be seriously meant as to be sexy. Jane took another sip from her juice and busied herself to pour Maura a glass of wine and set the table before putting the food onto the plates.
R&I
Maura slid easily into her open arms when they settled onto the couch later. The brunette kissed her forehead and they smiled at each other. She felt how Maura's tenseness slowly went away when the doc relaxed against her chest. Jane could only imagine how exhausting some days must be for the doc and shot her an understanding smile.
How could one person deal with so much death and tragic events? How did Maura deal with it on her own? Probably by keeping herself busy with writing books and doing the TV-show. Both also served the purpose to deflect from her loneliness Jane mused as she tried to cuddle Maura as much as possible because she wanted the weariness and pain from her love go away.
The docs reaction was a deep and content sigh which made Jane happy. "I love you." She said and rested her head on Maura's. The doc smiled. "I love you too."
Jane took a deep breath. "I resisted the temptation." She whispered, feeling that this was probably a good moment to tell Maura and use it to make an important point. She felt the doc shift in her arms and turning to focus on her.
"Temptation?" Maura questioned, a swirl of emotions like confusion crossing her face.
Jane sighed. "There was this woman at the bar the other night. She offered to buy me a drink. It was … the player in me was back for the fraction of a second. But then I realized that you are all I want." The pilot stiffened a bit, hoping that Maura wouldn't take it bad.
The doc looked puzzled. "Why are you telling me this?" she asked after studying Jane for a while.
"Because I feel like … " her voice trailed off. "I don't know to be honest. I just felt like I needed to, to let you know that you can trust me." Now that she spoke the words out loud it didn't make much sense to her. She faltered, glancing to her feet which were resting on the coffee table.
Maura shook her head and kissed her cheek while taking her hand. "I think I get what you mean. And I think that its very noble of you. It can't be easy to change your habits from one day to the other. But Im proud that you manage so well." She spoke.
Jane blushed and rubbed her head. "Well. I guess the bottom line is that I want to say that I really love you Maura. And I'm glad that I'm with you. That we decided to try. You make my life so much better." A shy grin played around the corners of Janes mouth.
Maura kissed her gently. "You also make my life better, Jane. I cant even imagine my life without you anymore." The doc said and Jane grinned sheepishly. "Almost sounds like a proposal." She joked, her voice deep and dark. She was glad that Maura knew her well enough not to be offended by her making a joke and seeing right through it.
"A proposal?" Maura teased her, giving Jane the feeling that she was half joking – half serious.
"I guess that I need to buy a ring then?" she nudged Maura and explained "to make it properly."
Maura hitched a breath. "Who says that you get to propose? I could do as well…"
"Because.." Jane licked her lips and reasoned. "Aint I the man in this relationship? I have the more maile characteristics. You are so feminine."
"Bossy is male indeed yes." Maura thoughtful said and Jane huffed. "Bossy? Who is bossy?"
"You are." Maura chuckled. "But its fine I love you."
"No, you are bossy as well, but you do it more subtle." Jane defended herself before they both stopped talking to glance at each other. They ended up bursting out in laughter. "Fine we are both busy." Maura admitted. "But you're still a bit bossier than I am."
Jane hitched a breath for the dramatic effect which led to another laughter. The pilot took a selfie and grinned.
R&I
Maura awoke in Janes arms the next morning, thinking about the previous night. Jane had a way to make everything easy and the problems of the world less gravely. When turning her head she found the brunette still deep asleep, her eyes moving under the eyelids in a dream of which Maura hoped that it was pleasant. Sleeping Jane was sweet she thought and smiled, snuggling deep into the pilots arm. Jane pulled her closer with a pleasant sigh while waking up slowly. "Good morning beautiful." She mumbled; her voice thick with sleep.
"Good morning baby." Maura replied, placing a gentle kiss to Jane's neck where her head was resting. The pulse under her lips was strong. "I need to go for a run today. I haven't been in a while and I don't want to loose muscles. I need to be fit for my job." Her voice was reluctant. Maura asked herself why. Lack of motivation?
Jane shifted slightly to her side, keeping her arms wrapped around Maura. She opened one eye to glance at her. "Would you like to join me?"
Maura thought about it. She didn't like running in general and was more of a yoga person, but she decided that it couldn't harm to try. "Sure." She replied which earned her a smile. "You don't have to though, if you don't like it." Jane offered her an out, telling her that she wouldn't be mad which motivated Maura the more.
"No, I'm good. But you won't go before breakfast, will you? Studies have shown that…" she saw a grin curl around Janes lips and realized that the pilot was the first pilot to accept her quirk of stating facts and statistics without thinking that she was boring. It made her stop talking. Jane opened her eyes wide in surprise. "Are you okay?" the brunette asked, and Maura nodded. "I love you." One more I love you Maura thought, coming from deep within. Without explanation why exactly she loved Jane but she guessed that Jane knew.
The brunette propped her head onto her elbow and glanced at her. "I love you too Maur." She reassured the blonde and caressed her cheek with the back of her hand.
