3 Years Later
Saturday May 21
Raven and Logan have just finished their sophomore year of college. They are currently at the reception of Dick and Kori's wedding. Logan and Raven are dancing together to a slow song. With her head on Logan's shoulder, Raven looks around the dance floor at all of their friends. She sees Vic and Bee, happily married for 2 years now, dancing together, Bee's baby bump just starting to show. Nearby she sees Jenny and Wally, wedding bands on both of their fingers, having gone to the courthouse 6 months after getting engaged instead of having a wedding. She spots Roy by the bar flirting with one of Kori's cousins, apparently unsuccessfully as the woman turns and walks away from Roy with an annoyed look on her face. Lastly she sees Dick and Kori dancing together, looking at each other with smiles on their faces and love in their eyes. She sighs in contentment and closes her eyes as she relaxes against Logan. When the song ends, she opens her eyes and looks up at Logan. He smiles down at her and softly kisses her then leads her off the dance floor.
"Want to get away from everyone for a little bit?" Logan asks.
"That sounds great," Raven replies. They walk out of the reception hall through a door that leads out to a botanical garden. They walk along the path, music from the reception fading. "This is really nice," Raven says. "I'm happy for Dick and Kori and like celebrating with all of our friends but it's really nice to get away from it for a bit."
"I thought you might be wanting a break from everyone," Logan says. "You had a lot to do today as maid of honor."
"You're probably glad that Vic was best man instead of you," Raven says. "Easier to just be a groomsman."
"Best part of not being best man is that I didn't have to give a speech," Logan says.
"I'm sure you could have given a good speech," Raven says.
"Maybe if you wrote it and I read it word for word," Logan counters. "If I wrote it, it would've been either two lines or probably something funny and inappropriate. Actually Dick probably would've wrote it himself just to make sure I wouldn't embarrass him."
"That's possible," Raven concedes.
"Your speech was beautiful," Logan says.
"Thank you."
"You look beautiful too. Have I told you that yet?"
"Many times."
"Good." They come upon a fountain in the garden with a bench nearby. As Raven starts walking toward the bench to sit down, Logan stops her. "Wait." Raven turns to see why Logan wants to stop and sees him dropping down on one knee.
"Oh my...you're not proposing are you?" Raven asks, horrified. Logan looks up at her, an amused smile on his face.
"No," he replies. "My shoe is untied." He quickly ties his shoe then stands up again. "But nice to know that's what your reaction would be." Raven blushes and looks down.
"It's not that I would say no," she says, slightly looking up at him. "It's just…" Logan moves closer and softly kisses her.
"Don't worry," Logan says. "I'm not going to propose to you at a wedding. That's a day for the bride and groom. Besides, we're still in school. I would prefer to wait until after we've graduated before I propose. And I am going to propose to you one day."
"I…you…um, okay," Raven responds.
"Now do you want to know the real reason why I stopped, other than my shoe being untied?"
"Sure." He walks them closer to the fountain.
"I thought we could each make a wish." He pulls out two coins from his pocket.
"Do you really think tossing a coin into a fountain while making a wish will make it come true?"
"No way to know unless we try." Raven shakes her head playfully with a smile on her face.
"Fine. Let's do it." She takes one of the coins and they both close their eyes, make a wish, and toss the coin into the fountain. They open their eyes and look at each other.
"So what did you wish for?" Logan asks.
"If I tell you, it won't come true," Raven replies. Logan grins at her.
"So you do believe that wishes made by a fountain can come true and that you can't tell anyone what you wished for and risk it not coming true," Logan says triumphantly.
"No way to know unless we try, right?" Raven counters, repeating his own words back to him. Logan pulls Raven close and kisses her. Raven wraps her arms around his neck to keep him close and return the kiss.
"I love you," Logan says when they break the kiss.
"I love you too," Raven replies, briefly kissing him again. They finish their walk through the garden and return back to the reception, celebrating the union of their friends late into the night.
