So what's the dress for?" Jane asked while they were cleaning the dishes after breakfast. That stunning dress, that Maura had bought and sent her a picture of. She was bracing herself for another family occasion when Maura's eyes fell dreamingly on her. "Its still a secret. But you'll find out next weekend. You might get yourself dressed equally nice." She winked playfully.

"Next weekend? How so?" Jane was curious and watched Maura with a raised eyebrow.

"Don't be impatient Jane." Maura dropped the dish towel onto the counter and wrapped her arms around the pilot. Jane grumbled playfully while drying her hands. "Okay. But you would tell me if I would have to mentally prepare for some fundraising party or so, wouldn't you?" she stated, locking eyes with the doc who giggled.

"I would. And what I have in mind only involves the two of us. No fundraising I promise." She stepped on her toe to kiss Jane who huffed. Maura had been planning the event for weeks now. Thinking that Jane had taken her to games and shown her her world, Maura felt like showing a bit of hers to the pilot.

She was sure that Jane would like her surprise which consisted of a night at the opera. A weekend in New York at one of the finest hotels came in addition. Maura had caught Jane listening to classical music on several occasions. The brunette was openminded and embraced all sorts of music which the world had to offer and one night she had managed to find out that Jane had never been to a real opera house.

It filled Maura with excitement to think about that weekend and she kept humming all day which made Jane end up laughing. "You really begin to make me nervous." Jane's voice came from the living room where the pilot was busy unpacking one of her last boxes.

Maura who was carrying some of her stuff around to find adequate places stopped in the doorway and smiled. "You are going to love the surprise." She promised with a wink, glancing at Jane who was dressed in shorts and T-shirt, wearing her hair in a ponytail. She loved casual Jane. Much more than official Jane in uniform. Somehow, she found casual Jane much more attractive.

Jane looked up and she blushed slightly, caught staring at Janes ass. A knowing grin split her loves face and she quickly turned on her heels to continue her search for the right spots.

"You are not going to hang them here?" Janes dark rumbling voice almost made her drop the tribe mask she was about to place next to the TV onto the wall. "Excuse me?" she asked, and Jane was about to repeat the question when Maura stopped her. "I understood what you were saying. But why not? Aren't they beautiful?"

"They are scary." Jane teased Maura who huffed. "They are not scary. Okay, maybe at the first glance, but when you look at them closer you can see how they are smiling friendly." Maura pointed to the mask in her hand. Jane looked at it but couldn't see a smile. Yet she thought that Maura should hang them up if she liked them. Compromising was doubtlessly a huge part of a functioning relationship and she was sure that she was going to get used to the masks, up to the point where she wouldn't notice them anymore.

"All right. Do you need help. I could put the nails into the walls if you tell me where you want them to be."

Maura looked a bit relieved, and Jane thought about the discussion from the previous day about roles. She was more the male she thought. Yet, Maura was able to repair cars so… Jane just couldn't wrap her mind around the whole thing and decided that it wasn't important after all. They were who they were: Jane and Maura. Ant it was perfect.

After finishing the unpacking of the last boxes they settled into the deck chairs by the pool. Satisfied and feeling comfortable they took a nap until a voice woke them up. Angela was waving at them when Jane lifted her head to see what was going on.

"I realized that I have never been to your new home and thought we could have coffee." She shouted over the fence. Jane groaned. She wasn't in the mood for talking and feared that Angela would bring up the baby topic and cause Maura to get a bad consciousness.

But Angela seemed to be oblivion to her disturbing the women's quiet afternoon as she pulled another deck chair closer to theirs and placed a cake onto the small coffee table they used to play chess on.

"I'm going to make us some coffee." She mumbled and was glad when Maura followed her into the house. Sighing she rolled her eyes and Maura who wasn't fully awake joined the eye rolling while trying to find the mugs.

"I'm sorry." Jane excused herself. But Maura shook her head. "Family is important." She simply stated and Jane huffed. She felt a bit grumpy as she had been looking forward to a calm afternoon with Maura. Maybe they would have played another chess game later and she could have break Maura's lucky phase of 6 won games in a row. It tackled Janes ego because she knew that she could do better than she did.

Maura took out some plates for the cake Angela had brought them and grinned. She was much more awake now and touched Jane's butt while passing behind her to fetch some forks. Jane hummed with a grin.

"Good that we finished unpacking the boxes earlier." She mumbled. "Ma, would have scolded us for taking so much time."

"We are both working. Moreover, it's our house. We have to deal if boxes are standing around." Maura explained with furrowed eyebrows and Jane realized that Maura still didn't know to which extend Angela tended to make foreigners things her own business. She would find out soon enough Jane thought and gave the doc a week smile.

They settled down at the table on the deck. It was still warm and Angela glanced at the pool. "If I had known I had brought my swimsuit." She mused while Jane distributed the cakes and coffee. Shaking her head she turned to Maura to ask if they would come earlier the next day. "Im going to make original Italian lasagna. You might want to learn the recipe and help me?" she suggested, obviously happy to have found one woman who was interested in cooking.

The doc glanced at Jane who shrugged as in saying if you want we can do that. Maura agreed to Angelas offer. Jane knew that she was eager to experience a normal family life after being left alone so much by her own family. And who was Jane to deny that pleasure to her? She only wanted Maura to be happy.

"Great!" Angela said and clapped into her hands. Her mother was excited and asked them to come 4 hours ahead of dinnertime. Jane silently made a mental note to ask Frankie if he was into playing basketball with her in the driveway while they were cooking.

Maura gave Angela a tour of their home after they had finished with coffee. The women talked and Jane followed in some distance and listened to them. Angela was over the moon when seeing the house. In her eyes Jane had finally done something properly. Apart from getting a doctor girlfriend.

Jane found it adorable how Maura kept shoving Janes success under Angela's nose as if to defend her. And then of course, Angela brought up the grandkids when seeing that they had three additional room. "OH, this is so perfect. Your children will love the garden and the house. Its big enough for the family. ." Maura gave Jane a questioning look and Jane shrugged slightly. Maura quickly realized that was going on and smiled.
