Friends Who Flirt
It had been over a month since the emotionally ruinous performance of the Ember Island Players. Most of them forgot about the play and all of its flaws. Most of them...Katara walked past Zuko in the spacious kitchen and smacked him soundly on the bottom.
"What's up, Bubble Butt?" she said casually as she reached around him to grab a piece of fruit from the dining table. Zuko's mouth hung open as he stared at the normally uptight and no-nonsense water tribe girl. He didn't know whether to laugh about it or fight her. Ever since that disaster by proxy, she's been doing things a lot differently. There was a new Katara emerging.
"Y-You touched my butt!" Zuko opted to say instead. Katara laughed.
"You don't remember that line from the play? Where the actress Katara—you know what? Never mind. That was a terrible thing to do. I'm sorry. It won't happen again." she said as a red hue crept up her dusky cheeks. Zuko snapped out of his shock when he saw her blush.
"Uh, no! I mean I wasn't offended. I was just surprised? Usually, this kind of stuff is reserved for Toph antics. I didn't expect it from you. I mean, it's a good surprise. It's nice to see you feeling more comfortable with me. We're cool. Y-You're good." He stammered rubbing the back of his neck. Katara looked unsure for a moment.
"Are you sure? We're really good? I mean, because you should have seen the look on your face just now. It was priceless." She said with a brilliant smile. Zuko laughed.
"I'm sure. We're good." He said with a slight blush creeping up his face. Zuko reached over to grab a moon peach from the table. As he leaned in he got close to Katara's ear letting his breath tickle her neck and whispered.
"You like this Bubble Butt don't you, Princess?" He said as he eased himself upright and walked away leaving Katara in the kitchen with her mouth askew. That was his line from the play! As she stood there holding her banana-apple she began to laugh. It was a sweet crystalline laugh and Zuko thought to himself that he'd definitely like to make her do that more often as the sound of it echoed in the hallway.
A pair of eyes peeking through an outside window widened in shock at the sight of his two sifus. Katara hit Zuko for no reason! She smacked his behind, but Zuko was being the bigger person and laughed it off. Aang felt a twinge of something when he saw how Katara laughed when Zuko walked away. He wasn't too sure of what that meant. Were those two really trying to be friends? He wondered. Maybe he should have a talk with Zuko and find out.
