Rumor Has It
Melody was whistling a catchy tune in her head as she walked into a small trinket shop. The entrance bell chimed as the cashier gave a friendly grin, saying, "Welcome to Trina's Trinkets! We got every kind of trinket you could ask for! What can I do for you today"? Melody smiled, saying, "Hi, Trina! I'm looking for a really nice friendship charm bracelet. You have anything like that"? Trina bent down to get something before popping something back up, saying, "How about this"? On a purple pillow was a small, shiny, silver charm bracelet with hearts and music notes all over it. Melody smiled, saying, "Yeah! That's perfect! Can I get a name customization on that, please"? Trina pulled out a box full of rainbow letters, saying, "No prob! Who's name am I spelling out"? Melody replied, "Aggie, please," as Trina chuckled, saying, "Aw! Getting something nice for your best friend! Such a sweet sight," as she started to pick out some letters to add to the charm bracelet. Melody smiled, saying, "Well, Aggie's my best friend in the whole wide world! We do almost everything together! Through rain or shine, I can always count on Aggie to have my back whenever I need her, the same way I always have her back when she needs my help"! Trina replied, "Aw, it's like you two are meant to be friends! Honestly, aside from her and her soon-to-be-husband, I can't imagine another pair of trolls as close as you and Aggie are"! She then finished adding the letters to the bracelet, perfectly spelling out Aggie's name, as she placed it in a small red gift bag. She then gave the bag to Melody, saying, "Here you go. Free of charge"! Melody happily replied, "Thank you so much, Trina! Have a trinket-astic day," as she left the shop, skipping through town while singing, "Gonna give a gift to my best friend! Gonna give a gift to my best friend! Gonna give a gift to my best friend! 'Cause I love Aggie so"! As Melody passed through, a random pop troll overheard her singing and faced his friends, a random female country troll, and a random male funk troll and said, "Did you guys hear that? Melody loves Aggie"! The funk troll said, "Hold up. I'm sure she did not mean it like "that." She was singing that she was giving it to her best friend, which is Aggie. And besides, Aggie's engaged. Why would she want to "love" another troll when she's soon to get married"? The pop troll then retorted, "Yeah, that's true, but you don't say you love your best friend unless you have feelings for them. And think about it for a minute. If it's not Trollex, Aggie's always spending time with that Melody, girl. They could be having feelings for one another but hiding it, so no one knows."
The country troll then said, "I agree with him. Anyways, that girl's single 'cause I don't see a boyfriend or any other troll she likes around her." The pop troll then said, "We should get a closer look and see if we're right," as the small group proceeded to follow Melody in secret. Meanwhile, the rock/pop troll was still skipping, humming the little song she sang earlier in her head when she spotted Aggie talking to a Classical troll over by the candy bar. Melody placed the gift bag away and snickered silently as she tiptoed up to the MMT as quietly as she could. Meanwhile, Aggie was having a conversation when she felt a vision coming as it played a short clip of what looked like a glass cup shattering as it hit a wall. Once the vision ended, Aggie shook her head, trying to get back to her senses, as the classical troll seemed to understand that Aggie needed a "moment" for herself. When the Classical troll flew away, Melody then covered Aggie's eyes with her hands while saying in a sing-song voice, "Guess who." Aggie smiled, saying, "I know only one troll who sings like that! Is it...only my best friend in the who wide world? Melody"? Melody uncovered Aggie's eyes and exclaimed as Aggie turned her head around and saw her, "Ding ding ding! You're right," as both trolls happily hugged one another. While the small trio from earlier watched behind a huge bush, Aggie said, "Hey, Mel! How's it hanging," as Melody placed her arms behind her head while answering, "Eh, the usual. Chilling, strolling through town, and oh yeah! Excited to spend the day with my best friend"! Aggie giggled and replied, "True, and the feeling's mutual," as she swung her rock arm around Melody. Feeling Aggie wrap her arm around her neck, Melody let out a small chuckle as Aggie noticed, guessing that Melody was ticklish, before getting a pretty fun and slightly sneaky idea. Aggie then stepped back a minute while Melody asked, "Hey, what's u-AH," before Aggie playfully tackled Melody to the ground before using her Classical hand to tickle her gently. The rock/pop troll began to squeal in laughter as she cried out, "Aggs! Stop! That tickles," in mid-laughter. Aggie smiled, saying, "Oh, does it? Try this," and started to tickle Melody's stomach. Melody kept laughing really hard until Aggie stopped, allowing her friend a moment to breathe. Melody caught her breath and stood up, playfully declaring, "Ok, you've done it! No one tickles Melody Aria Song and gets away with it! You've earned yourself one Song Special," and playfully tackled Aggie to the ground.
The trio watched as Melody began to playfully tickler her best friend, overhearing Aggie shout, "Mel, that tickles! Stop," while laughing pretty hard. The pop troll then whispered, "What do you have to say to that," as the country troll replied, "Well, I mean they're tickling each other, but I'm unsure if that proves anything." The funk troll then said, "Yeah, it doesn't show any signs of romance," as the pop troll then said, "We need to keep watching. Trust me, the signs will appear soon," as the small trio continued looking/ Meanwhile, Melody and Aggie were sitting on the ground, breathing pretty fast, as Melody commented, "Told you. You don't tickle Melody Song unless you're willing to pay the price," as Aggie replied, "And indeed, I paid the price. I haven't laughed that hard in a while. And you're middle name's Aria"? Melody blushed in embarrassment, saying, "It was my mom's idea, but yeah." Aggie smiled, saying as she stood up, "I think it's pretty cool. Your name is basically a reflection of what you represent: music, and you show it off well." Melody smiled, saying, "Thanks, Aggs, but if anyone here represents music well, it's you. You're the Master of All Music! You have all the True Colors! You can perform any music that there is, even the ones we probably don't even know about yet! You're the epiphany of music"! Aggie was now the one blushing in embarrassment as she said, "Aw! Thanks, Melody," as the rock/pop troll crossed her arms, saying, "Hey, you know me. I always speak the truth about how I feel. Now, how about we go hang out over at Pixie Meadows? We can race." Aggie flew up, saying, "In that case," as she tapped Melody on the nose, saying, "Let's go," and flew off, leaving Melody to run after her, playfully shouting, "Hey, that's not fair! You can fly! I have a prosthetic leg for troll's sake," as both trolls disappeared into the forest. Melody chased after her best friend as Aggie aimlessly kept a large lead over her best friend. Melody then saw a branch she was approaching and got an idea, launching her hair and pulling the branch back tightly. Once it was held back long enough, she loosened her grip and allowed herself to be launched into the sky like a rocket, easily passing Aggie as she shouted, "Look at me! I'm flying without magic"! Melody chuckled in victory before seeing that she was heading towards a tree and commented, "Oh, sweet guitar picks," in concern before she zipped through the top of the tree, heading towards the meadow. Seeing the ground coming up fast, Melody tucked her body in and rolled forward, resembling a cannonball, before landing on the ground with both feet planted firmly.
She grinned, saying, "Oh yeah! Victory! Normal, 1. MMT, 0.999." Aggie soon made it to the meadow as she commented, "Wow, that was amazing! How did you do that," as Melody replied, "You were flying, and you never said anything about me not being allowed to use tree branches as leverage." Aggie then noticed that her best friend's friend lavender/pink-highlighted hair was full of leaves, which made her break into laughter and comment, "Uh...trying something new, Mel"? Melody looked at Aggie in confusion before she saw a leaf fall from her head, making Melody smirk and reply in a playful/sarcastic manner, "Oh yes. Leaves as the new highlights. You like"? Aggie nodded, commenting, "It's a nice look on you, but I think I prefer your regular highlights more," and started to pick the leaves out of Melody's hair. While doing so, she asked, "Say, Mel, I've always wanted to ask this. Are your highlights natural, or did you dye them like that once you got older"? Melody grinned, saying, "Well, I was born with them, so I guess I would say natural. Though I do sometimes wonder why they are pink since that color never came from my dad or my mom." After Aggie picked out the last leaf, she and Melody both laid down on the grass, looking up at the clouds, as Aggie commented, "This is so great! I don't remember the last time you and I hung out like this." Melody replied, "Well, normally, we hang out with other trolls, but we rarely get to spend time together, especially nowadays since you and Trollex are so busy planning for your wedding." Aggie chuckled, replying, "True, and I do love to be with everyone. But I gotta admit it's great getting to spend time with you. I don't think I've ever felt close to anyone, friend-wise, until the day we met." Melody replied, "Yeah, it's the same for me. I was mainly friendless back home, well...not really. I have one friend back home, but other than her...it's a little lonely. Not a lot of rock trolls can relate to me and my personality. You get me"? Aggie nodded, saying, "I get it. It must be tough on you." Melody shrugged, replying, Sometimes, but you get used to it. Say, speaking of wedding, how it's going picking out who's doing what"? Aggie answered, "Trollex and I are debating. We really want to pick out some of the best people to make this wedding soar. Say, can you keep a secret"?
Melody looked around before saying, "Sure. What's up"? Aggie then said, "Well, I'm trying to pick out who I want to be, the maid-of-honor, and so far, on my list...you're one of my top choices." Melody's jaw dropped as she replied, "Me...a maid of honor?! B-but why"? Aggie smiled, replying, "Well, you're someone really special to me, Melody. You're one of the closest friends I've ever made, and we've had so many great times together. We've shared laughs, tears, and together, we make a good team. Of course, my decision isn't finalized yet, but...so far, you're one of the few trolls on top of the list." Melody placed a hand over her heart, saying, Aggs...I don't know what to say...other than...thanks. I'm honored to be one of your choices." Aggie and Melody hugged one another before both trolls laid back down on the grass and watched the clouds pass. Melody pointed at one, saying, "Ooh! Look at that one! It looks like a themotto"! Aggie, in confusion, asked, "What's themotto," which made Melody smirk and state, "Nothing. What's themotto with you," as both trolls broke into laughter, with Melody commenting while wiping a stray tear of joy away, "Man, I love to joke with you, Aggs"! Aggie giggled, saying, "Ok, you got me. Hey, look at that cloud"! Melody sat up and turned her head to look, asking, "What cloud," which made Aggie reply, "The one that looks like a...turnipsaywhat"? Melody, in confusion, asked, "Turn wha- aw mosh pits"! Aggie giggled again as Melody smirked, saying, "I can't believe you made me say that! Aggie, you're a trickster! That was good, though," as Aggie commented while sitting up and tousling Melody's hair, "Hey, I just took a page from you, the same way you learn from me." Melody chuckled and said, "True that. Man, we think alike, we act alike, we sometimes even speak alike. We even finish-," as Aggie interrupted with, "Each other's sentences"! Then, they both said in unison while mimicking each other's movements, "Exactly! Wait, this never happened before. So weird! Ok, stop! You stop! Stop saying what I'm saying for a minute! Puppies and rainbows and butterfly kisses! Seriously?! Gah"! Then, both trolls broke into laughter, smiling as they both fist-bumped one another.
Meanwhile, the trio from earlier had followed them in secret and watched from afar as the pop troll said, "See?! I was right! This is so juicy! Come on," as the pop troll led his two friends back on the route to Trollstopia. About an hour later, Aggie and Melody returned to Trollstopia as Aggie said, "Well, Mel, I love hanging out with you, but I better get going. I'm late to teach the Classical trolls about Techno. Maybe we can go swimming later"? Melody nodded, saying, "Sure thing! I'll see you soon, Aggie," as both trolls soon left in separate directions. While Melody walked through town, however, she began to notice that some of the villagers were either shooting her weirded out or stunned looks or whispering something to another troll nearby. Noticing it, she said to herself, "Hmm...that's a little odd. Was today some holiday I'm not aware of? Or maybe those trolls aren't too fond of me being a mixed-troll. Eh, I've dealt with thoughts like those my whole life, and honestly, I'm not too bothered by that anymore. Can't stop them from thinking about it, but I won't let that stop me from doing what I love." Deciding not to think about it too much, Melody headed to Rock Hollow, where to her surprise, she was greeted by her mom. Melody walked up to her mother, saying, "Hi, mom. What's up? Everything ok"? She then noticed that Mal looked a bit concerned as the elder Song stated, "Melody, hon, can we...talk for a minute"? Melody nodded as she followed her mother inside and into the bedroom, where Mal Shredder had the rock/pop troll sit on Val's bed. Then, she began to speak, saying, "Melody, I know that...you're different from the other trolls, and I understand that it may...affect you in certain ways. You're getting older and, there comes a time in life where I feel like...we should have this kind of talk with each other since well...soon, you're going to be with someone you love and cherish so much and...I want to see if you are comfortable with where you stand...romantically." Melody was confused as she asked, "Mom, you're confusing me. What's going on"? Mal then continued, saying, "I know you say that you love Mojo and you're dating him, but if there's someone else that...you may find interesting, that's ok. You don't have to hide that from me, and whoever it is, I know that you'll do whatever it takes to make that troll happy." Melody soon became conflicted as she raised an eyebrow, asking, "If I find someone else interesting? Mom, does this have to do with me hanging out with Sid? I told you and everyone already I'm dating Mojo! I love him, romantically, and no one else! I'm his girlfriend! Sid and I are only good fri-," before Mal interrupted, saying, "I know. Good friends and nothing else. Val's told your father and me about it. But...it's not Sid that I'm talking about. It's that girl you spend a lot of time with, Aggie."
Melody's jaw dropped as she asked, "Wait a minute. Are you saying, you think...I "like" Aggie"? Mal had her hands up, saying, "I'm not saying I think that, but I overheard some trolls whispering about it and...well...it just made me concerned about you." Melody then stood up on the bed, shouting, "Well, you shouldn't think that because I don't "like" Aggie like that! Sure, we may spend a lot of time together, and yeah, Aggie is a fun and cute troll to be with, and yeah, she's had a boyfriend and a girlfriend previously before we met her, but none of that means I have feelings for her! Aggie's my best friend! Even if someone paid me or even if someone threatened to kill me, I still wouldn't date her because she's my friend! Aggie's my best friend and nothing else"! Before Mal could say anything else, Melody then asked, "Wait! Do all of the trolls think that?! Is that why I got weird looks and saw trolls whispering about me earlier"?! Mal, in confusion, asked, "Wait, you've been weird looks," which earned a loud shout from Melody, who turned away from her mother and crossed her arms, looking pretty mad. Mal placed a hand on Melody's shoulder as she then said, "Melody, look, I don't believe what those trolls say for a minute because I would know if you were seeing someone else, especially if that someone was your best friend. But, I'm only asking this because, well, long-term relationships aren't exactly the easiest things to take care of, and it's not to say Mojo's feelings might change while back in Volcano Rock City either." Melody snarkily replied, "Yeah, I know, and Debbie's also hard to take care of, but you don't see Barb hounding at her! Besides, I know how difficult long-distance relationships can be, but Mojo and I make it work. We write love letters every day, and whenever he's free, he comes by for a visit, and we go on a date! I know things are sometimes difficult, and I wish Mojo lived here with us, but I wouldn't trade him for any guy in the world, especially not a girl! Yeah, it's fun to hang out with other females, but I don't "romantically like" them." Melody then said, "You wanna know what's worse? The fact that some trolls are spreading this rumor around behind my back! It's embarrassing, it's humiliating, and it...hurts."
Mal Shredder brought her eldest daughter in for a hug while saying, "Melody, it's ok. I've had my fair share of hurtful rumors back in the day. Have I ever told you about the time that I was sent to the same lab that you were sent to when I was little"? Melody shook her head, saying, "No, I don't think so." Mal explained, saying, "See, as you can tell, you got the magenta skin color from me, but...originally, I wasn't supposed to be magenta either. See, I have this condition called CCC, where instead of being grayish like the other rock trolls, the chromosome that gives my color in my DNA was abnormal and gave me bright colors instead. As a little girl, I was always assumed to be secretly a pop troll because of this, thus, sparking hurtful rumors that I was a pop troll. Your grandparents even initially believed them at first and sent me to the lab where I spent a week getting tested on." Melody gasped, replying, "Mom, that's awful! Why did grandma and grandpa do that"? Mal replied, "Well, your grandparents were firm believers of everything they heard and...in concern for me, but mainly for their "reputations," as they described it, wanted to find the truth out themselves. So, I was sent there, got tested, sent home a week later, found out that I was indeed a rock troll but with CCC. For the most part, the rumors stopped after that, but some trolls still like to whisper it behind their backs when they think I'm not listening. I was hurt, angry, resentful, found it hard to really trust anyone, and safely assumed first-hand they heard about what others were saying. But, after a while, when things finally quieted down, I looked back and realized that sure those rumors hurt, but...in a way, they felt...satisfying." Melody looked up at her mom, asking, "How did they make you feel satisfying," while Mal answered, "Because it helped teach me to appreciate my unique qualities a lot more. And it helped showed me that despite there being haters, other trolls love and support me for who I am. Peppy was one of the first who befriended me, looking past my color, and as my friend circle too, I started to feel less hurt any time anyone talked bad about me. So, you see Melody, while rumors like that may initially hurt, and you may find it hard to deal with...over time, it gets better. With the right trolls by your side, they can help you see that what others may say are false and, even if they feel true, what matters most is that if you believe if they are true or not."
Melody thought about it before saying, "Well, I can tell you, hands down, mom, this is false. Aggie is my best friend and only that." Mal smiled, responding with, "Well then, that's all the proof you need." Mal planted a gentle kiss on her daughter's forehead before Melody turned around and opened the door, beginning to walk out and leave. However, before she left the hollow, she saw a couple of rock trolls giving her a weirded-out/confused look and one of them teasing her, which made Melody's anger begin to rise again. Luckily, her mother was able to calm her down by saying, "You go on ahead. I'll deal with them." Melody smiled and replied, "Thanks, mom," before leaving the hollow. As she exited, Melody saw a pop troll leaning against the tree as he commented, "Look who it is. The future bride of Ms. Galido." Melody did her best to try and not snap in anger while commenting, "I'm not marrying Aggie! She's engaged to Trollex, first off! And second, I don't even love her that way! Why would I even want to marry her"?! The pop troll chuckled and commented, "I don't know, but...be prepared to be dumped at the altar when she shatters your friendship," and added while walking away, "Your loss Ms. Galido Song." Melody balled up her fist and threw a rock far away, having it land onto a mud puddle deep in the shrubbery. Melody then gritted her teeth, growling slightly before storming off to try and calm herself down. As she re-entered town, Melody was looking down at her feet, muttering, "I hate this rumor! I hate it! I hate it! I hate it"! Melody caught eye of a couple of trolls who were looking at her and whispering to one another. Melody shouted, "What are you looking at," as the group shook their heads and left, leaving Melody feeling deeply melancholy. She then spotted the Milkshake Bar and sighed, saying, "Well, I might as well try and drown my sorrows out with sugar. Though I don't see how that'll help," and made her way inside the building. Inside, Aggie was sipping away on her usual favorite when she saw Melody enter and sit next to her but then noticed something was off when she heard her best friend sadly state, "Chocolate. Extra syrup. Whipped cream and cherry." The waiter prepped her drink and gave it to her as the rock/pop troll sadly sipped away, looking at her milkshake with a sad gaze.
What snapped her out of it was when Aggie spoke up, asking, "Melody, what's wrong? I can tell by the tone of your voice that something's not right." Melody slightly turned her head and saw Aggie, sadly replying with, "Oh, hey Aggie. I'm fine." Melody looked back at her cup as Aggie saw that Melody's eyes seemed to glisten with small, forming tears. She then said, "You're not fine. I can see it in your face." Melody began to grow frustrated as she retorted, "What is this?! 20 questions?! I said I'm fine! I just...don't feel like talking right now." Aggie then saw Melody pick up the cherry on her milkshake and place it back down, which now signified that something was indeed wrong because she knew, first-hand, Melody always ate the cherry that the waiter put on top of her milkshakes. Aggie then stated, sounding almost a bit stern, "Geez, Mel, I'm just asking, and I don't like that tone of voice you're using. I'm your best friend, and I don't remember my best friend acting this way before." Melody rolled her eyes and snarkily replied, "Well, excuse me if I seem "off" today. I'm just not in the mood to chat with anyone, and if that doesn't help, then I'm sorry," before muttering angrily under her breath, "Troll Louise." Aggie wanted to try and help Melody while, at the same time, figure out what was bugging her, as she then said, "Not even a milkshake can help you, huh? What if I'll ask you with a song? If you can't tell me what's going on, I might as well sing"! Not wanting even to hear music, Melody gritted her teeth and growled, trying not to get upset with Aggie, as she said, "I mean no offense, but I'm not in the mood for a song either. You want to sing? Find Poppy." Aggie then felt a little awkward, replying, "Okay, to be honest, I don't have a song for that. I thought if I asked in song to you, you would tell me." Aggie chuckled, adding, "It's kind of funny, actually," which got a deadpan glare from Melody, who retorted, "Do I look like I wanna laugh right now," before turning back to her milkshake and drinking it. Aggie then got an idea, remembering what Melody said about finding Poppy, as she stated, "Well, I can see that you want to be alone right now with your milkshake. So, I'm going to take my shake to go," and transferred her drink into a paper cup and started to slowly walk away backward, saying, "And I'm going away now."
Despite not watching Aggie leaving, Melody was still able to comment, "I never said you had to go now," and groaned in frustration/anger, making Aggie's concern levels rise. In her head, the MMT thought while silently whispering to herself, "Darn! how did she know that," before saying in her normal voice, "Ok then, I have to go now for an unknown reason." Finally, Melody couldn't stand it any longer as she shot up, reaching for Aggie, saying, "Wait"! Aggie purposely stopped where she was standing, just in case Melody changed her mind, and turned around, asking, "Yeah,' as Melody sighed, answering while crossing her arms, "Ok. I'll tell you why I'm in such a bad mood." She took a few deep breaths to calm down before asking, "Have you...heard anyone talking about any rumors recently"? Aggie thought about it before answering, "No... yes... I don't know. I'm minding my own business, and you know, the last time I heard a rumor was my secret about my visions when Creek initially found out during that newspaper report escapade before they got exposed two-and-a-half. Anyway, what's the rumor"? Melody temporarily looked away from Aggie as she answered, "Well...some of the trolls have been saying that...even though you're engaged to Trollex...there's the chance that...since we hang out so much, they say...we might be developing a romance...with each other." Aggie gasped in shock, her eyes widening, and shuddered in disgust before she commented, "Yikes. Okay, to be honest, Mel, I dated a girl once, if you remember. Scarlet, my ex-girlfriend, and bully, remember her"? Melody nodded, adding, "How can anyone forget the "Wicked Witch of the Upper Rock Side," as Aggie continued with, "It was a disaster being with her! And everyone knows I'm engaged to Trollex! They said that we're a cute couple and were really upset when I "unintentionally" broke up with him before we got back together. Plus, you have a boyfriend." Melody then exclaimed, "I know. I hate this rumor! Just because you and I hang out a lot does not mean we have romantic feelings for one another. It doesn't help. I've been getting weird looks all day, and even my mom questioned me on the nature of my love life! You have any ideas how embarrassing that is?! The least trolls could do ask me instead of whispering this behind my back"!
In sheer anger, Melody grabbed a glass cup and chucked it at the wall, the cup shattering upon impact as Aggie gasped and whispered, "That was my vision." Melody balled up her fists and breathed in and out pretty fast while Aggie then said, "Look, I know what it's like, Mel. It's embarrassing. It happened back in my school days when I dated Scarlet. We just went on a pity date, set up by her, and the whole school laughed at me. But don't let that rumor put you down. I mean, look at me now. I'm still standing." Melody then seemed to be back in control as she then commented, "It's not about the rumor putting me down...it's...I don't want something like this affecting our friendship. You're my best friend, Aggie, and I'd risk my life and limb to make sure you are safe and happy. That's how strong my loyalty is for you. And I'll tell you straight up right now: you are a beautiful, pretty troll and a fortunate girl. But it's because of our tight bond that connects to why this rumor exists is what's worrying me because I don't want to not be able to be within ten feet of you without trolls assuming I love you romantically. Plus, it just..." Melody had small tears forming around her eyes as she added, "It just hurts, you know," and quickly turned around, not wanting Aggie to see her cry and tried to keep her tears from flowing as her back faced the MMT. Aggie, unsure of what to do, flew up and landed in front of Aggie, using her rock thumb to wipe away some of her best friend's tears while saying, "Aww, Mel, I'm sorry you feel that way, but nothing's going to affect our friendship. Melody, you're more than a friend... you're like a sister to me. You're family. That's why, back in Harmonious Land, I'm willing to invite every one of you to occasions that are family events. I want to be friends with you, Mel, because we have some things in common, like... having different kinds of music than only one, and... well, something else. Some traits that are kinda personal, but you get the point." Aggie then took a deep breath as she then stated, "But now, I have to ask you a question, but try not to be hurt by it, ok"? Melody nodded as Aggie asked her, "How do you really feel about me"?
Melody was silent for a minute before she replied, "Aggie...you mean so much to me. More than just my friend, even more than a sister. You're possibly the only troll in the whole universe who, for once, understands me for who I am. You're...a special kind of best friend; the one who'll never leave your side,e ven during a bad fight or argument. The kind that'll give up their own hair, limb, blood just to save you in na desperate time of need. See, when I first met you, somehow...I felt like...fate wanted us to meet...because, in a way...before he got revived, you reminded me so much like my dad." Melody's tears flowed like waterfalls as Aggie then said, out of surprise, "Oh, Melody. But, what made you think I reminded you of your dad"? Melody quickly removed her tears and shakily answered, "Well, from what my mom told me about him, he was always so upbeat, loved to make friends as you do. He loved to teach other trolls about friendship and a lot of other positive lessons. He was the party's life and loved to sing, dance, and play many musical instruments. Plus, he was so devoted to looking out for the well-being of others. Finally, like you, he always wore a smile on his face. That's how you reminded me of him, and why...I feel so strongly about...it. Every night, I fear for your safety because...I don't want to lose you...like I lost him. And now, even though he's back and I love him, every time I hang out with you, it's like getting to experience something...I never got to with him. My dad and I are bonding but...not as much as when you and I do something as simple as playing hopscotch or telling stories. We're such close friends. We even read off each other's emotions. You're always there for me when I'm sad or, as earlier, not in the mood. You never give up on me, even if I try to push you away. That's why...I have such strong emotions about our friendship because if I hadn't met you or became best friends with you...I'd...I don't know what I'd do." Melody then pulled out the gift bag she's been holding onto, saying, "This was something I wanted to give you earlier, but I forgot." Melody left it on the table and said, "I...I should go," and started to walk away, walking past Aggie.
Aggie looked in the bag, pulled out the charm bracelet, placed it on her Classical wrist, and looked at it with a stunned gaze. Under her name was a small paper tag that read: To: Aggie, the best friend a troll could ask for. From: Melody, a troll who you've helped change her life for the better. Aggie then picked her head up and saw Melody about to leave the bar and reached out for her, saying, "Hey, Melody, wait"! Melody purposely stopped and turned her head, look at Aggie while solemnly asking, "Yeah"? Aggie then walked up to her, smiling as she said, "Look, buddy, it's a good thing you told me, because... I was really wondering why you were so close to me. And to let you know, I have no favorite friends, but telling me that I reminded you of your dad made me realize that this is the reason: because he wanted us to meet and become friends. While he was gone, he didn't want you to be lonely. And, maybe he wanted to be friends so I can watch over you too, the same way he did and still does. I remember...Bill told me the other day, when I ran into him, that he saw himself in me, but I never knew what that really meant until you told me. I also thought it might be my responsibility to keep you safe and make you happy, but I didn't know you felt your responsibility. Mel...you know I love you since you're my best friend, but just in case you did have any lingering thoughts about us "romantically," I don't "love" you that way, not as how the rumors describe it. Not only because of me dating and soon going to be married to Trollex, but I don't feel that kind of spark between us, and after that fiasco pity date with Scarlet, I don't think I could ever bring myself to doing something like that again. I promised myself. But to prove it to you, Melody, you'll always be my best friend, now and forever. We are close, but because we have such a tight friendship, that doesn't mean we're a "thing," even if others view it differently. I can be your family, the same way you've been mine. And this bracelet is a symbol of special friendship, as best friends, and hey. No matter where we are, how busy we may be, even if we have our own families someday with our partners, we'll always be close. Even if something goes wrong, we'll always be friends till the very end."
Melody's sadness seemed to disappear as happy tears welled up around her eyes, making Melody place a hand over her chest and say, "Oh, Aggie. You really are a great friend. I...I'm lucky to have met you, and I'm grateful that we're friends. Best friends. I...I'm glad you're a part of my life." Both trolls brought each other into a happy, warm, friendly hug as tears of joy and gratitude fell. Aggie commented, "Aww, me too, Melody. I'm glad we're best friends. And listen, I promise, even if one of us did have any trace of romantic feelings for each other, we're still best friends and only friends. Promise." As both trolls separated a little, Aggie added, " You know, I never had a close friend before, other than the leaders, obviously. They are my first best friends, but you're special. That's why I still treat you like family, even though we're not biologically related. And I promise you, from the bottom of my heart, we'll always be best friends. Nothing awkward or strange like that rumor will ever make us fall into that." Melody then asked, "What are we going to do about the rumors anyway? How can we show them that those rumors are false? I mean, I'm sure you can love dial Trollex, but I can't quickly call Mojo over, even if I wanted to. So, what else can we do"? Both trolls thought about it for a minute as Aggie then suggested, "Well, I'm not really much for tattle-telling, and I don't want to ask the leaders for help, but maybe we should tell them. At the same time, I'll take care of the source of the rumor, but be alert in case we need some help." Then, Melody got an idea as she suggested, "Or...what if there was a way we can play two instruments in one song and have this settled all together at once"? Aggie didn't seem to get the reference at first until she finally realized what Melody meant as she said, "I'm beginning to think we'll be doing a musical number, or more specifically, a duet"? Melody nodded, commenting, "You read my mind, Aggie. To get this sorted out, we'll have to get a little...musical," and pulled out Poppy's cowbell from hr hair. In surprise from seeing Melody holding the cowbell, Aggie asked, "Did you steal that from Poppy," while Melody replied, looking sheepishly to the left, "No...I "borrowed" it. Now, come on. To the town square," and ran out of the Milkshake Bar. Aggie paid for their drinks by leaving some coins on the table before saying, "Good thing we got that settled. It's great Melody, and I are friends, and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way," as she pulled out her keytar and followed the rock/pop troll outside.
As both trolls scaled to the top of the mushroom stage, Melody began to play the cowbell loud enough together everyone's attention. Flocks of trolls started to rush over as Trollex commented, "What's going on," while Sid replied, "Beats me." Even Poppy commented when she saw Melody with the cowbell, "Wait, is that my cowbell"? Once everyone had arrived, Melody placed the cowbell away and ushered Aggie to begin speaking. Aggie stood tall and stated, "Hey, everyone, you may wonder why we gather all of you here. You see, some rumors are spreading all over TrollsTopia, and I don't want to mention who's been doing it because I believe you might know who, and that... maybe... I don't know; it's too awkward to say it. But we're here because we wanted to tell you that..." and sent a small whisper signal to Melody, letting her know that it was her turn to speak. Melody cleared her throat and added, "Recently, a rumor has been passed around, saying that Aggie and I have romantic feelings for each other." The crowd gasped in shock and started to whisper in intrigue as Melody then cleared things up, saying, "But! But, we are both here to inform you that this rumor is downright false. Sure, you might argue that we both spend a lot of time together, and we have such a tight-knit bond. But That's only because she and I are close best friends and nothing more." Melody gave a glance at Aggie as the MMT then commented, "Exactly. Two best friends can be... well, best friends, but that doesn't mean we have feelings for each other. Every one of us here has a close and/or a best friend/s who don't share romantic feelings. Best friends can be one way, such as family members, like a brother, sister, or someone you love to hang out with, like a partner-in-crime or something like that. but best friends can also be someone you rely on or go to talk to, like a fellow companion or a wing-troll." Holly then exclaimed in the crowd while swinging her arm around holly, "It's true, y'all! Buckaroo ayn' ay are best friends, and Ol' Bucky here's my wing troll! She helped me out big taame when ay asked Gust out," while Gust Tumbleweed smiled and blushed a little in embarrassment.
Buckaroo added, "Yeah, y'all, ayn' y'all know ay'm nawht one faw romance, ayn' even if ay was, it wouldn't be with Holly because she ayn' ay are best friends forevuurr! Partnuurrs till the end"! Aggie then added, "but just so we're clear, just because you're close friends with someone doesn't mean you have to be in a relationship or tie the knot with them," as Melody then added, "Yeah, and besides, why would we want to be romantically involved with each other when we already have boyfriends of our own? Me and Mojo, along with Aggie and Trollex"? Smidge then commented, "Yeah, she's right. And we support Aggie's relationship with Trollex. Everyone literally raised their hand when Melody asked if we supported them." At the same time, Barb playfully stated, "And I can confirm that Mel and Mojo are maintaining a great long-distance relationship and love each other a lot," which made the crowd say, "Aww," in unison. Melody blushed a little before shaking her head, saying, "You see? Now, for those of you who may not seem a little convinced," and got out her guitar, pointing it at Aggie, who said, "We have a little song to prove it. I mean, sometimes, words can be explained better through song anyways," and got out her keytar, playing some notes on it while Melody strummed in unison with the music.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~My Favorite Troll~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Melody: You'll be seeing us together, day and ni-ight!
Aggie: She and I, birds of a feather, yeah, we're flying high!
Both: Ain't nothing can come between us; we so ti-ight! Not sisters, but we feel! Like Satin and Chenille!
You and I, yeah, we feel the love! 'Cause, we found that thing we've been dreaming of! Always up, yeah, we're never down! We up in the clouds! Nothing like our together time, 'cause, deep down, I like everything you like! And it made me realize!
You are the one, the one, the one, the one! Oh-oh! You are the one, the one, the one, the one! Ye-eah! We don't even got to try! We're gonna be friends for life! 'Cause you are the one, the one, the one, the one! Yeah, you are my favorite troll!
Aggie: When I'm with you, I feel like a better me-hee!
Melody: We can laugh or cry; it's always perfect harmony!
Both: Just so natural; everything comes with ea-ease! We don't share DNA, but we're still family!
You and I, yeah, we feel the love! 'Cause, we found that thing we've been dreaming of! Always up, yeah, we're never down! We up in the clouds! Nothing like our together time, 'cause, deep down, I like everything you like! And it made me realize!
You are the one, the one, the one, the one! Oh-oh! You are the one, the one, the one, the one! Ye-eah! We don't even got to try! We're gonna be friends for life! 'Cause you are the one, the one, the one, the one! Yeah, you are my favorite troll!
The crowd broke into applause after Aggie and Melody finished their performance, leaving a fast-breathing Melody to say to Aggie, "Well...I think we convinced them enough." As both trolls placed their instruments away, Aggie commented, "Yeah, and that's what friends are for," and offered a fist-bump, which Melody happily reciprocated. Then, the pop troll from earlier, the one who was with the funk and country trolls, came up to the duo, saying, "Uh, excuse me." Melody and Aggie turned around and saw the pop troll, funk troll, and country troll approaching them as Melody asked, "Hi. Is there something we can do for you"? The funk troll and the country troll ushered the pop troll to step forward as he said, "Look, we wanted to come up and personally apologize for starting that rumor. We didn't think when I came up with that idea, and we're sorry if we have hurt you in any way because of it." Melody and Aggie looked at one another before the MMT replied, "You know, if I were angry at you three, I would've strangled you with my plants and send you down below the Earth"! Seeing the trio squeak in fear, Aggie then added, "But.. I handle rumors back in the past, and I got used to it. You were lucky this time, but then next time you start making those kinds of rumors, mark my words, I will strangle with my plants." Trollex then approached Aggie's side and glared at the trio, commenting, "And if you ever ruin my girlfriend's and her best friend's reputation, and something happens to us, I will not hesitate to drown you too"! The trio bowed down in fear and commented in unison, "We won't ever do it again," as Melody delivered the finisher, glaring at the trio while commenting, "Yeah, and consider yourselves lucky I'm no longer in a bad mood. Otherwise, you'd be crawling home without kneecaps. Understood"?! The trio nodded and whimpered in shame before running off as Aggie smiled at Melody, commenting, "Ha! That's going to give them nightmares tonight, and that seems like suitable punishment for what they've done." Aggie then turned around and faced Trollex, starting to tell him, "Trollex, hon, I swear I don't have-," before he interrupted her by saying, "I know, Aggie. I don't believe in those kinds of rumors and never did. I know that you love me with all your heart and that you promised yourself that you'd never make a mistake like before ever again. Besides, I can see and tell you and Melody are good friends."
Aggie smiled and hugged Trollex tightly while the Techno leader held Aggie in a loving embrace. Melody watched silently as she wished that Mojo was here to hug her the same way Trollex was hugging Aggie. She then silently chuckled, saying, "Well, I can always hug myself," and started to give herself a self-hug. Trollex saw what Melody was doing and chuckled, rolling his eyes and saying, "Get in here," and pulled Melody into the hug. A little surprised at first, but happy nonetheless, Melody hugged Aggie and Trollex before the trio separated, with Trollex asking Aggie, "So, how about you and I go out on a date to try and forget this whole rumor mess ever happened? I know you may still have some doubts, but it might help cheer you up and help you get over it"? Aggie looked at Melody to see if she was ok with it as the rock/pop troll smiled and nodded, saying, "Go right ahead. Spend some time with your future husband. I'll just go rock boarding and clear my mind. By the way, show him the new charm bracelet." With that, Melody began to step down from the mushroom, looking back at Aggie and Trollex, smiling in content, before beginning to wake away. Meanwhile, Aggie showed Trollex her new charm bracelet as Trollex was both surprised and happy for his fiancee before the couple started to head out for their date. However, as they started to walk down, Aggie looked back, seeing Melody disappear, and in her mind, wanted to do something special for her best friend in return. As night fell over Trollstopia hours later, Melody was sitting on her bed, writing something on a piece of paper while saying, "And now, those trolls are going to have nightmares tonight. It was pretty funny, but this experience really taught me a lot about how rumors can really hurt, but as long as you got friends by your side, then even the most hurtful rumor will fade away. And it's helped me appreciate our relationship a lot more. I love you, Mojo, and just so you know, no matter how far away we are or how busy we get, I'm never going to stop loving you. You make my heart sing, and my cheeks flare like a volcano. Hope to hear back from you soon. XOXO, love you always, Melody." Melody folded the letter and placed it in a red envelope before hopping down from her bed and walking out of the bedroom. She whistled for a delivery bug, who came flying in as she gave the envelope to it, telling the bug, "To Volcano Rock City. It's for Mojo Mohawk."
The bug grabbed the letter and flew away with it while Melody watched on with a smile. Then, out of the blue, she saw Aggie standing next to her as the rock/pop troll screamed in shock and fell to the floor, chuckling as she commented while placing a hand over her chest," Oh, Aggie! You scared the guitar picks out of me"! Aggie helped Melody onto her feet while saying, "Sorry about that, Mel. You know me. I can't resist the element of surprise." Melody then asked, "What are you doing here anyway? Everything ok"? Aggie nodded, commenting, "Everything's great. I just wanted to check up on you and see how you're feeling after all the hectic events that happened." Melody happily replied, "I'm feeling a lot better. I just sent out a little letter to Mojo." Aggie giggled as she saw her best friend blushing before she said, "Aw, so cute! Oh, I almost forgot! Here, I got you something," and pulled a purple gift bag from behind her back. Melody accepted the gift bag and fished through it, pulling out a charm bracelet that looked similar to Aggie's, only this one had Melody's name spelled out in small charms. Melody looked at it and replied, "Aggie, I love it! But, I have to ask, why'd you get me one"? Aggie answered, "As I said earlier, the charm bracelet is a symbol of our friendship, so I thought you might want one too." Melody smiled and placed the bracelet on her right wrist, opposed to her left wrist, where her Hug-Time watch was, and commented, "I'll never take it off, except when bathing, of course. But other than that, I'll never take it off." Aggie and Melody high-fived each other, their charm bracelets gently clinking together, before Melody peered at the entrance/exit of Rock Hollow and got an idea. She then said, "Oh, Aggie, there's one more thing I want to say." When Aggie asked, "What is it," Melody tapped Aggie's nose and said with a smirk, "You're it," and darted speedily out of the hollow, laughing out loud while doing so. Aggie chuckled and shook her head, shouting, "Oh, you're a trickster, Melody! I'm coming for you," and flew after Melody, out of the hollow, as a photo came out of her pocket and landed on the floor. It was a picture of Aggie and Melody, along with Poppy, Branch, the ambassadors, and delegates, all holding hands together, signifying their friendship, during the opening of Trollstopia. And under Melody in the picture, in white ink, were the words, "My best friend."
