Well there goes his plans on leaving. "The hell are you doing here?" As well as Jehu's good mood as the three of them were there in the dining room. Jehu leaning his back against the wall glaring at the blond sitting down. Haou was at a lost as he made tea for the three of them, having never seen his boyfriend so hostile before.
Though with what little he did know it was understandable. He cursed his own parents on a day to day basis after all. "Is it so wrong for a father wanting to check up on his kids?" Amber eyes flashed in rage, making Haou wince...that was the wrong thing for Daniel to say.
"It is when his eldest told you two years ago to leave and don't fucking come back." There was slight movement at the corner of Haou's eye, Jesse and Johan heard the commotion. and were trying to be stealthy. This was not a conversation they should be hearing.
Quickly he set down a cup for the officer, before giving one to his boyfriend. Whispering while nudging his head to the side. "I'll keep an eye on them." Jehu followed the movement, seeing a tuft of blue from behind the entryway. "Thanks." He was so grateful his boyfriend decided to stick around.
He'd be able to keep the kids distracted and away from Daniel while they...talked. Frankly when he heard his voice Jehu was more than happy to take a cue from Haou and slam the door in his face. But the officer was stubborn, stating he Needed to come in.
That he had a good reason for coming now of all times. It in all honesty Better be a good reason because though he was never in the mood to deal with his father, his patience was shit because he wasn't feeling well. "This shouldn't take long."
Jehu, not caring for his audience or his ill state for a moment plants a loving kiss on Haou's lips, surprising the brunette. "Go on." They quickly pull away, Haou leaving without another word as he locks gazes with Jesse and Johan. He places a finger to his lips before pointing up to the stairs.
And they obey, trying to be as quiet as possible. "Why's dad here?" It wasn't a malicious question, but they didn't jump for joy over his presence either. "More importantly, why isn't Jehu kicking him out? He Hates him." Their reaction to Daniel was nothing like how they were with Haou or the rest of their family.
And frankly the sixteen year old wasn't sure how he felt about that. But he'd let his mind wander another time. Preferably when these two were sound asleep. "He said there was something important he needed to talk to him about. But let's not worry about that. Why don't we watch a movie before bed?"
Emerald eyes twinkled in excitement. "Can we watch Monster Academy?!" Haou smiled with a nod. It was a movie they got from their mother around Christmas, and the both of them considered it their newest favorite.
They've been dying for Haou to watch it with them. "Why don't you two set it up, I got to head to the bathroom first." The two do exactly as they were told, racing into their bedroom. Haou glanced back at the stairs, worried.
Meanwhile...
"So you two seem...close." Daniel wasn't sure what to expect when he dropped by his ex wife's house, but it certainly wasn't this. "That's none of your business." The soft look in his gaze went away the moment his boyfriend left the room.
It was such a strong contrast that his father was actually taken back from the intensity of his hard stare. In his line of work, Daniel Anderson has stared into the eyes of many individuals he's arrested. Some were crazy, some full of sorrow, however the majority were full of hatred and malice.
Those stares did something to a man. But in all of the twenty or so years on the job, none of those glares terrified him more than the one his son produced. He knew he wouldn't be welcome, but...he never believed Jehu to hold so much animosity.
"Drop the bullshit and tell me why you're here." Sighing the aged officer took a careful sip of his tea, noting it was made just the way he liked it. A hint of sugar and cream to sweeten it, but not overpowering the herbal aroma.
It helped calm his nerves while facing his son. "I came because I had heard that there was a series of break ins in this area as well as two other neighborhoods. I just wanted to make sure you all were alright. No ones been hurt thankfully, but the numbers have been increasing."
Jehu scowled as he took a sip of his own. "Yeah well we're fine, and even if we aren't it's no longer your concern." His tone was bitter, the opposite of his drink. It was far too late for Daniel to try and repair their damaged bond.
"Jehu. The safety of you and your brothers will always be my concern." His mouth twisted into a snarl as he placed his cup on the counter. Just barely able to repress the desire to throw it at his father. His limits were reaching their breaking point already.
It wouldn't be long before he throws a punch. "Sure, us. But not the safety of our mom. Or anyone else for that matter. You're supposed to be a cop!" Selfish, that was the word Jehu would use to describe him. He had essentially the perfect life.
A loving wife, a good job, wonderful kids, a home he could call his...but he threw it all away. Because he couldn't stay loyal. Letting his eyes and hands roam towards another woman. Now Jehu has had quite a few partners in the past, but never once had he cheated on them.
When he was with them, he was invested fully. Sometimes he lost that spark with them, other times they lost it with him, and they saw other people. There was one and only one occasion where he was on the receiving end of being cheated on...and it sucked.
He felt so hurt and betrayed when he discovered the truth. She didn't even have a good excuse, or try to cover her tracks. She happily walked away in the arms of her other boy toy, leaving Jehu in a miserable state for a solid month...
So to find out that his father, who up until two years ago was his role model, someone he always confided in and respected was not only revealed to have been cheating on the woman he was supposed to be dedicated to, but had been doing it behind her back for YEARS...of course he would be angry.
Having a disloyal spouse or partner was the equivalence to them saying to you that you weren't good enough. That they like you and don't want to see you leave, but you aren't giving them the happiness they feel like they should have either.
Theoretically Daniel should've NEVER have gone out and done it. Especially when he had kids he supposedly had due to that loving bond. There were many things Jehu believed you should never do in life, and Daniel broke the most important rule on that list.
His mother still cried over the bastard, reigniting his hatred even more. "Jehu, I don't know how many times I can say sorry for you to believe me." Jehu only snorted, glad his mom at least was working so she didn't have to deal with this.
"You're not sorry. Sorry means you feel bad about something you did and want to redeem yourself. No, you feel guilty. And that's only because you got caught and now under fire for it." That's probably what hurt the most when it came to his father.
He didn't know HOW long exactly he had been doing it for. But it was at least a couple years, going back and forth between two different women and having kids with at least one of them. Were it not for Jehu catching his dad out kissing the lady at one of the dance clubs Atticus dragged him to, he wouldn't have known.
No one would've. Daniel would of continued with no worries. And in the end when his dirty little secret was brought out into the open, he still CHOSE the tramp. Not his wife who he built a life with. A woman who he gave his name to in a big fancy wedding, inviting all of their friends and family to bear witness to their love.
Where they recited their vows and exchanged rings.
'...to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part...'
Didn't that mean AnYThInG!?
"Jehu." Even before the scandal was found out Jehu was more of a parent to the twins then Daniel ever was. He was the one who raised them. Taking them to school, the doctors, making sure they ate and did their homework.
Before when Jesse and Johan would ask where dad was, and why he wasn't there to play with them...Naïve, ignorant, innocent Jehu would reply that their dad was out working. Keeping them and the city they lived in safe. What a joke.
The son of a bitch used his job as an excuse to meet his mystery lover. "You've said what you needed to say right? Get out. Because if mom shows up there Will be hell to pay, and I'm not going to be the one dealing with it."
The only thing that came out of this conversation was the fact that Jehu wasn't letting Haou walk home alone at night anymore. Jehu would be more alert, but he wasn't going to rely on his old man for anything. "Son-I..." Not anymore.
"You lost the right to call me that! Get Out NOW." Daniel sighed, standing up with his cup. Sipping the last amounts of his tea(Haou shouldn't have made it for him) his eyes shoot up towards the upper floor. "Be safe." Amber eyes rolled as their owner crossed his arms.
He'd be better if he never had to deal with this jackass again, but he didn't bother with a retort. Daniel needed to get out of the house and fast. "Tell your friend I said thank you for the tea. Love you." Jehu again didn't reply.
Even if he did find that affection for his father deep, deep within his heart, it wouldn't change how he felt. He turned his face away from the elder man, refusing to see the hurt on his face. Staying silent until he finally went out the door and drove away.
Closing his eyes, Jehu sighed, his head falling gently against the wall as he tried to reel in his anger. The urge to scream the house down while hitting something still strong. He counted to thirty in his mind, moving only when he felt the tension fade away into fatigue.
He quickly downed his drink, it now a lukewarm slosh before making his way upstairs. Step by step he snuck his way towards the twins room, mentally thanking Haou for his quick thinking as he found their bedroom door closed.
Carefully he twisted the knob, gritting his teeth as the a small squeak was heard. "They're sound asleep...you're fine." Haou smiled tiredly as Jehu finished opening the door. Each twin was out for the count snuggled into their blankets and stuffies.
It would take the smell of food or an explosion to wake them up now. "Were there any problems?" His lover only shook his head, walking out the door to meet the other. "No. They went out not even ten minutes into the movie."
Jehu thanked his lucky stars, he was getting loud towards the end there. "Thanks for doing that." Haou shrugged, that smile still there. "No big deal." It was a big deal, to his boyfriend especially. He shouldn't of had to play guard dog to Jehu's siblings.
But he did, caring too much about his boyfriend and his family to leave them in what appeared to be a stressful situation. "Did I ever mention how much I love you?" Haou allowed hands to coil around his waist, bringing the two closer.
"Perhaps a time or two. Now it's your turn to get some rest." Jehu hummed as he pressed his chin atop of Haou's head. Feeling soft locks tickling his neck. "You're not going to ask why he was here?" He figured Haou would be curious.
Hot breath landed on his chest as his partner huffs, reaching to tangle his hands together behind the taller teen's head. The distant boundaries temporarily ignored for the moment. Jehu needed the comfort. "Whatever happened between the two of you is your business. I won't pry into territory I have no right to enter."
How in all the hells did Jehu stumble across this man? He didn't deserve his wisdom, patience, or love. At all. But he blessed every moment with him. "He came to warn me about a series of break ins around here and two other sections of town." A small sound escaped Haou as he understood.
He recalled hearing something to that extent on the news. Though he didn't hear about Jehu's area being a target. The arms around him tighten slightly, not enough pressure to hurt, but plenty enough to keep him cocooned in place.
"If he showed up after two years to warn me then it's a problem. I don't want you walking home alone at night anymore." There was no teasing undertone, his voice was serious and quiet.
This wasn't the first time they've reached this particular subject. Usually it ending with Haou stating he could take care of himself and would of course go out the door. To him walking around at night wasn't scary or dangerous. He used to do it all the time when he was younger in Japan.
it didn't make much a difference to him where or when he traveled. There was this sense of freedom whenever he went out. So long as his feet carried him the road was endless. Plus it was more of a hassle than anything for him to ask his uncles or Jehu's mom a ride home.
Though Yami promised now that he was sixteen he would learn to drive, he didn't want to bother anyone. Now unfortunately he had no choice but to relent. Simply nodding against a firm chest. Able to feel Jehu relax in his embrace. "Thanks."
It was just another situation to adapt to he supposed. At the very least it gave him a good enough reason to try learning how to drive a car...not that he was really looking forward to that.
To be continued
Author Notes: Well yikes...there were some major feels in this chapter. Honestly i've been fortunate enough to never be in this situation, but personally i could see anyone relating to this. Being betrayed hurts. And most people don't realize just how badly it can until its too late.
Now i do promise next chapter will be a bit more cheery! Until then guys, thank you all so much for reading this story. If you like the series so far, please feel free to fav/follow/review as it would mean so much to me to see people showing their support. Alright-see ya! Tchao for now.
