Jane watched Maura at the check-in. Since being a pilot – so forever – she hadn't boarded a plane like normal passengers did. "I could have checked us a flight." She said slowly, complaining at the waste of money but Maura just smiled.

"This is my present for you Jane. Are you feeling uncomfortable?"

"What? No. I'm fine." Jane lied and cringed when seeing that Maura didn't buy it. Yet the doc was silent until the line moved forward.

"Just enjoy this Jane." She said and Jane sighed. "It wasn't so bad she thought. In fact, if she thought about it, it was really sweet of Maura to treat her to a weekend in New York. Which left her still wondering what the dress was for. She had chosen an elegant suit which matched Maura's dress.

She was aware that Maura hadn't chosen this date by coincidence. This was their six-month meeting anniversary and she had bought a nice present for the doc. Maura smiled at her warmly and Jane replied the smile, wondering if Maura thought that she had forgotten about it. If she had, Maura wouldn't be mad. It warmed her heart how understanding her girlfriend was.

Jane had told Maura that she was very bad at memorizing special dates when they had talked about it one evening. Now she was looking forward to surprise the doc, by remembering that date. She also remembered vividly when they met for the first time. How nervous she had been when waiting for Maura to come out of the studio to ask her for dinner. Her wanting to prolong the time with the intriguing woman. Her surprise about how easily they had fallen into a comfortable warm feeling.

And of course, she also fondly remembered showing the doc around the house she had grown up. Telling her old stories. Maura had soaked up every piece of information and Jane had watched her in amazement when the blonde hadn't run from the loudness and rudeness of family dinner.

There were so many good memories imprinted in her heart that she couldn't stop smiling at her girlfriend. The queue slowly moved on and they finally found themselves in front of a grumpy looking employee of the airline. Her airline as she registered when seeing the sign over the check-in-counter.

Jane began to understand the process passengers had to gone through until they reached her plane. She felt sorry for all of those who had to deal with this unfriendly woman who didn't bother to greet them. Instead, she grabbed the two passports and tickets before hammering away on her keyboard. There was no such things like have a good flight. Just a dismissive wave.

"She was very unfriendly." Jane said in shock, which earned her a puzzled glance from Maura. "Most of them are like her. You get used to it." Jane nodded and proposed to have a coffee at the café with the panorama view on the airport. Today was obviously the day she could experience what a normal passenger experienced, and Maura chuckled.

The doc glanced at her watch. There was more than one hour left. "We could have some lunch before boarding." She suggested.

R&I

Maura hid a smirk behind her coffee cup. Jane was busy on checking all the planes that rolled by their window, stating facts and specialties of the types like an expert. Of course, she was an expert, she was a pilot. But there was so much enthusiasm in her voice which made Maura love her even more. Maura understood that planes were for Jane what science was to her.

She let her eyes linger on Janes mouth that wouldn't close for a second because there was so much to say. Then they wandered to the beautiful dark brown eyes and the raven-colored hair. "What?" Jane huffed with a grin and pulled Maura out of her reverie.

"You're gorgeous." The doc simply said, and Jane rolled her eyes. Not because she was unnerved but because she was shy. At least sometimes. Especially like now when a compliment hit her unprepared. "And you're beautiful." She replied. Life was good, Maura decided as she finished her coffee and watched Jane pay the bill.

They both had enough money to never worry about that topic. Jane took Maura's hand as they slowly walked towards their gate. While Jane had felt a bit uncomfortable at the beginning the tall woman seemed to be totally relaxed now. They stopped at some duty-free shops and Jane bought herself a chocolate bar while Maura looked for interesting books. Then they moved on to the gate to board the plane.

Maura wondered if Jane had made a connection between this trip and the date. Was she aware why this weekend was so special? A few weeks ago, Jane had apologized in advance for not always recalling special dates. Maura theorized that it was due to the unstable working rhythm. And she had decided to make it her task to remind Jane about upcoming birthdays and all. But she didn't this time because it was supposed to be a surprise.

In a few hours they would check into their hotel suite. Enjoy the spa area and enjoying a wonderful dinner with view over the skyline of New York. Maura only hoped that this city wouldn't wake some bad memories in the pilot. The attack of the world trade centers wasn't so long ago.

She glanced one more time at Jane who was trying to find a comfortable sitting position in her first-class seat and almost chuckled at her antics. "You know how they say that doctors are bad patients?" the brunette asked when seeing that she had Maura's attention. Maura laughed. "They are." She admitted. Jane huffed. "Pilots are bad passengers." The statement was underlined by the typical Rizzoli eyeroll and Maura laughed a bit harder. She reached for Jane's hand. "Its only one hour Jane."

The brunette was cute. That was all Maura could thing off. And she knew that Jane made a bit of drama just to make her laugh, because Jane loved hearing Maura's delightful and contagious laughter.

When they left the terminal, their limousine was already waiting. Maura had called the families driver. She wanted to treat Jane like the queen she was to her. Jane was first shy but then became excited when inspecting the expensive car. The pilot who could have everything was so humble and down to earth that it made Maura shiver.

Jane never took anything for granted as Maura knew and it was a pleasure to give her some luxury because she knew that Jane savored it like one savored a good wine.

By the time they reached the suite, Jane had stopped complaining on all the money this trip must cost Maura because realization had hit her, that this is what Maura wanted to give her. And if she didn't enjoy it would be ungrateful. Their anniversary was only the next day. So, she tucked away the present and hid it in her underwear drawer when the doc was in the bathroom.

They enjoyed some massages and went to the Sauna before having a delicious 3-course dinner in one of the finest restaurants of New York. Jane silently planned their trip for the next anniversary. By now she could enjoy it all. But most of it she enjoyed Maura's company. She sat across from the doc and smirked playfully.

Maura laughed softly.
