One evening Gray and Juvia had gone out to eat at a restaurant together. It wasn't anything to extravagant or fancy but it was nice. Not a bad place for a first date and surprisingly it went very well. They had talked, laughed, they acted like a real couple on a date and it wasn't awkward.
"You know at first I thought the two of us dating would be weird." Gray said as they walked out of the restaurant. "Since we've been such good friends for so long but now I think that maybe us dating could be a very good thing."
"I'm so glad." Juvia said smiling at him. "Because tell you the truth you're the only boy I've ever wanted to be with like this."
"Really?"
"Yes. I trust you better than anyone else I know and you've always been there to help me. I'm not so shy and afraid when I'm with you." She blushed. "Because I know that you would never let anything happen to me."
"That's right I wouldn't."
He took hold of her hand and she responded by interlacing her fingers with his. She moved closer to him, he was a little unsure about it at first but eventually he leaned in as well. Their eyes closed, the distance between continued to grow smaller, and just before their lips could finally meet he heard her scream suddenly.
When he opened his eyes he saw a large amount of water splash Juvia from a hose being sprayed by an unseen person. She slowly fell to the sidewalk and instantly changed into her mermaid form. The eyes of all bystanders fell on her while suddenly spouting questions and phrases due to their shock.
"What the heck is that?"
"Is she wearing a costume?"
"Know I think that tail is real!"
"It's a mermaid! A real mermaid!"
Gray started to panic and he desperately tried to block everyone's vision from Juvia.
"Hey! Hey! Nothing to see here!" He told them. "Move along! She's not real! It's a fake tail!"
But the crowds just kept coming and getting bigger. Cameras were flashing, reporters were bombarding Juvia with questions, she was completely helpless. She couldn't run because of her tail and she was too terrified to even speak. She could only cling to Gray's hand for as long as she could. He clung to her hand as well and willed himself not to let go of it no matter what. Next thing they knew she was being dragged away by what looked like men in government uniforms while the crowds of people just kept pushing him away from her. Eventually their hands were forced to lose their grips on each other and they were separated.
"Gray!" Juvia screamed helplessly reaching for him. "Gray! Gray!"
He struggled with all his will power to get through the crowd as he reached for her as well but the people just kept knocking him back. It was horrifying. Seeing her so scared and crying out for him to help her when he couldn't. It was torture to him. It was all his fault. He was supposed to keep her secret, he was supposed to protect her. He had failed.
"Juvia it's all my fault! I'm so sorry!"
She only let out a scream that was so blood curdling that it was enough to wake Gray from his nightmare. He sat up in his own bed, completely covered in sweat with his heartbeat and breathing both moving rapidly. It wan't until he realized where he was that he finally let relief set in.
"Thank God it was only a dream." He said laying back down.
"About time you woke up."
"Ahh!" Just now noticed Romeo sitting on his bed looking at him. "What are you doing here?!"
"I needed talk to you."
"Couldn't you have waited until morning?"
"It is morning. It's ten o'clock."
He checked the clock on his nightstand and saw that the boy was telling the truth. With this knowledge, he proceeded to get out of bed and start getting ready.
"Alright now that you're finally awake I really need to ask you something." Romeo said.
"Can it wait until I'm dressed?" He said searching his closet for a shirt.
"No it's an emergency."
"Alright what is it?"
"How do you get a girl to like you?"
"Come again?" Gray said, not sure that he heard correctly.
"How do you get a girl to like you?"
"Actually Romeo no girls like me."
"What about Juvia?"
"Juvia?" He blushed a little.
"Well she is your girlfriend isn't she?"
"No! She is not!"
"But you spend so much time together."
"That's because we live under the same roof and go to the same school! We're friends!"
"So she's not your girlfriend?"
"Yes."
"But you want her to be right?"
"Uh...Why are you asking me this?"
Before Romeo answered he checked around to make sure no one else was nearby.
"The thing is I need some advice on girls and you're pretty much the only guy friend I have. You may not be an expert on girls but you're around Juvia and her friends twenty-four seven so you must know something."
"Trust me Romeo, the information I learn about them is not useful to you."
"I just want to know how to ask a girl out."
"Why? You have a little crush or something?"
"Sort of."
"Oh so you've finally discovered the purpose of puberty. Congratulations. What's her name?"
"Well she's-" They heard the sound a bell ring. "Oh here she comes now!"
Romeo raced to the window. Gray followed him and as they looked through the glass they saw Wendy pedaling down the street on her bike. Her indigo pigtails flowing in the breeze and her cute little mouth giggling at how fun it was to go down hill.
"Her?" Gray said. "You like her?"
"Uh-huh." He answered with an excited nod.
"You know she's Erza Scarlet's sister right?"
"Yeah and she also happens to be the prettiest girl in the my school, the smartest, the most talented, and her hair smells like strawberries."
"You sniff her hair?"
"No but her desk has recently been moved in front of mine so I can't help but get a few whiffs of her shampoo. Anyway she's really cool and I want to ask her out but I don't know how to talk to girls."
"What do you mean? You talk to Chelia and Juvia all the time."
"That's different, they're basically my sisters. I don't want to date either of them. But I do want to date Wendy I jsut don't know how to approach her without looking stupid. Help me Gray Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope."
"Romeo I don't know anything about dating. I've never even had a real date."
"But you know Wendy's sister which means you could find out some stuff about Wendy. What she likes, what she doesn't like, if she thinks I'm cute."
"I guess I could do that but if you ask me you're asking for trouble by crushing on someone who's related to Erza. She's not exactly friendly toward boys."
"Still I'm interested in Wendy not her."
"Whatever. I'll talk to Erza and see what I can find out."
"Thanks Gray."
Gray wasn't too keen on playing matchmaker again but at least it would keep his mind off of the awful nightmare he had. Why did he even have that dream anyway? Was it just some random bad dream or did it mean something? And if the latter part was true, what did it mean?
