The little weasel was away in another country, participating in an event that the Feline was convinced was a false display of goodwill between the nations. The tensions of the Third War still lingered in the backs of shinobi's minds, the scar tissue still fresh and the images of warfare residing behind their eyes. Certainly, there was no comradery to be found in an event where the nations would compete with one another.

Itachi had been purposely vague when describing what the next few weeks would entail for him, of the risk and danger he would truly be entering into. And alone at that, she realized. The last she had heard of these Chūnin Exams was after his sensei had denied his application for the second time, and she does not imagine that the man had changed his mind since. She thinks it had become a point of pride on the man's part to stunt any promotion for a child, who was a couple decades younger than himself and twice as knowledgeable.

When she asked the reasoning behind this sudden decision, the little weasel had blinked far too many times to be considered natural before telling her that Minazuki-sensei had a change in heart. It was obvious to her that the little weasel's skill at deception still left much to be desired.

At least, it was when he spoke with her.

In the weeks that followed the young Uchiha's departure, the Feline had been tricked into thinking she would finally enjoy her long-awaited peace and solitude. She would be vexed to discover that the younger Uchiha Spawn had developed a rather annoying habit of wandering her domain on some inane quest, carrying paper and a bottle of ink with him.

She had dismissed his presence the first day, but on the following days she began to find his scampering throughout the woods to be rather irksome. On more than one occasion already she has had to reveal herself before the little fool could find himself at the bottom of some sinkhole. Unlike his elder brother, the Feline held serious doubts to little Sasuke's ability to land without breaking his neck in the process.

"W-Woah!"

There was a snapping of a branch, a loud splash, then a squeaky shout that followed.

Tail slowly swaying behind her, the Feline rested her head on her paws as she watched the devil-spawn slowly clamber out of the cold pond, looking quite wet and miserable. She did her best not to enjoy the moment too much.

Still, how the child continued to elude the watch of his clan and slip out of the confines of the Uchiha district without consequence was a matter of wonderment that never ceased to confound her. Considering how often the little weasel would also find himself wandering her domain at this age, she was left to assume that the Uchiha simply had no grasp of responsible childcare.

"Ah-choo!" came the littlest Uchiha, accompanied by a few sniffles. When he began to shiver in his drenched clothing the Feline gave a tired sigh, leaping down from her perch to land beside him. Sasuke startled slightly when the black cat appeared, but whatever he was about to say was interrupted by another sneeze that worsened his chills.

"Little fool," she deemed. He scowled petulantly, but he made no complaint and obediently followed the Feline out of the forest.

The Weasel and His Cat

A/N: Yay! Another chapter! Yanno, if I were a more hopeful person, I'd almost think it resembled a semi-consistent updating... mmmm... we'll see. I actually had to restrain myself from working on any distracting little bunny that came my way today. I just hope that you guys enjoy it. I'm trying to move the plot further along! Trying!

Alright, stay warm and stay safe out there! I love you!
