Day 37: Mafia Boss

After messing with the Mafia for pretty much the entirety of the first level of A Hat in Time, Hat Kid and Mustache Girl take the fight to the Mafia's HQ where they come face to face with the leader of the Mafia...the Mafia Boss...

Lyra: Dude that is as lame and anticlimactic a boss name as you can get even by first boss standards.

Me: Hey, A Hat in Time isn't perfect. And I can easily forgive the generic name because this fight is awesome!

In the fight against the Mafia Boss, like with most bosses in the game, you must hit him every time he turns blue. You can do this by performing a homing attack, shooting a lazer from Hat Kid's umbrella, or whacking him with said umbrella. Simple fight in concept, but execution has the Mafia Boss refusing to down peacefully.

In the fight, the Mafia Boss will perform spin attacks, dropping sandbags from above (while occasionally sending one of his mafia goons to charge at Hat Kid while this attack happens), throwing his blades to both sides of the stage before jumping to the middle of it as the blades come back to him, creating a rolling ball made of his mafia goons to try and flatten Hat Kid...

(Note: there's a gap in the ball that you can use to ride to the top and hit the Mafia Boss)

...and his most devastating attack: his charges:

A super-charge will just have him send sparks across the stage. An ultra-charge will have this together with sparks that bounce across the stage, making this attack hard to avoid. And finally, a mega-charge which is a faster version of the ultra-charge, and thus even harder to dodge.

Like I said, the only way to defeat the Mafia Boss is to wait for him to glow blue. This happens while he's performing his spin attack, his blade throw attack, his mafia ball attack, and after he gets dizzy from his charge attacks.

Keep on hitting the Mafia Boss until he's nothing but a pile of organs inside a jar...yeah Mustache Girl is kind of a psychopath like that.

The fight with the Mafia Boss is fast-pace and challenging, but also fun and fair. Always a good combination of qualities for any boss to have. Oh, and one more thing...the music in this fight is a total banger! I'm no metalhead, but this heavy metal remix of the Mafia Town theme just downright slaps!

….

And I'm kind of grasping at straws when trying to figure out how to end this segment of the marathon...Not sure what to say here...Have a happy Monday?

...

Yeah that'll work.
