Klaus was pacing in front of one of the coffins, twirling the dagger in his hand. After his call with Tyra the day before, he had been debating on whether it was a good idea but he didn't want her to be alone. Having Elijah go to see her was the next best thing since he knew that she wanted him to make Hybrids. It was weird. Even after all these years, it was like Tyra knew him better than he knew himself sometimes. His sister was - despite having been at the wrong end of the stick more than once - the person who held their family together. She had such a big heart that had been scarred as the years went by and their world got darker.
He froze when he realised that the coffin beside him was empty. He hadn't noticed that Elijah had woken up "You took your time," he commented, trying to subtly search for his brother "What? Not going to attack me?"
"Niklaus," Elijah remarked, stepping out of the shadows "Where are we?"
"The middle of nowhere," Klaus shrugged "But that is of no importance at the moment. I need you to do something for me."
Elijah raised his eyebrow, making it look suspicious and scornful at the same time "And why would I do anything for you after you stuck a dagger in my chest?"
"A dagger I have removed," Klaus pointed out "But I did keep my promise. I reunited you with our family." That was the wrong thing to say. Elijah sped forward, slamming the Hybrid against the wall of the warehouse they were in. Klaus sighed in annoyance. He should have known that convincing Elijah would be more trouble than it was worth "It's about Tyra."
"Tyra?" Elijah asked, immediately taking a step back "You found her?"
Klaus inclined his head "She isn't well. I would go myself but…"
"You wish me to go to her and do what exactly?" Elijah demanded, crossing his arms "I refuse to stick a dagger in her."
"Nothing you haven't done before," Klaus smirked at the darkening of his brother's eyes "Relax. I don't want to dagger her. She's been through enough. I just want you to check on her. She called me yesterday and I know that she's having trouble with feeding. Her friend is all well and good but she needs someone who can help."
Elijah frowned in confusion "She has trouble feeding? Why?"
"I will tell you," Klaus promised "But not here. Not now."
Jack walked out of his office with Tyra trailing behind him. Neither of them had much rest since the incident with the space whale thing. They spent most of their nights talking when Jack wasn't out looking for Weevils or with Ianto. He had forgotten how good it felt to talk to her. Even after years, she could still tell when he needed to talk about something and when he just needed to focus on something else.
The Master had come up more than once and Jack was surprised to hear that Tyra didn't hold what happened against the insane Time Lord. She had heard so many stories about him from the Doctor since the Year that she sort of understood where he was coming from. That and it cost way too much energy to hold a grudge like that. She was more than happy to just focus all her negative feelings on her parents. They were the ones who deserved it more than any other.
Tyra frowned at the strange man standing by Tosh's side but held her tongue. She had a bad feeling and was sure that if she spoke up something bad would happen. Truth be told, she was exhausted and hungry and didn't really know what to do anymore.
"Class D artefacts," Jack exclaimed, gesturing to the stuff they had found "Tosh, I need you to run a full check."
Tosh nodded and went to work immediately "Sure."
Jack turned to Owen "Owen, you can help."
"Happy to," Owen nodded eagerly, wearing a pair of black-rimmed glasses not too far off from the ones the Doctor was using. The fact that he was wearing a very geeky cardigan was making Tyra more on edge than she had been before. Something was wrong with this. She might not know too much about the team but she knew that Owen wasn't the type for… any of this.
Adam shot Owen a quick look before eyeing the new girl who was hiding behind the Captain. He hadn't seen her before and neither of the team had mentioned her. At least, he was sure that she wasn't the missing member. Just as he was starting to make his way to her to manipulate her, Jack spoke up "Adam, I know how much you love audits…" Jack smirked, his eyes narrowing. He had felt Tyra moving closer to his back. It tickled something in the back of his mind and under normal circumstances, he'd ignore it but with Tyra here and the fact that he had already messed up when protecting her, he was being extra cautious. He wasn't sure what had set Tyra off either.
"It's got to be done," he sighed good-naturedly.
Jack inclined his head in thanks "If you could…"
"Go through the investigation reports, find out when they might have come through the Rift;" Adam finished for him.
"You okay with that? I have to head out for a while, so…"
Adam shrugged, his head turning when the door alarm blared loudly "I have been for the last three years."
Jack barely glanced at Gwen "You're late," he greeted, his arm already wrapped around Tyra's shoulders as he steered her towards the lift "Anyway, I'll be back in an hour max. Don't blow anything up."
"No promises," Adam called out when the lift was already gone, drawing Gwen's attention to him.
When they were far enough away from the Plass, Tyra slowed a little, adjusting her grip on Loki who was hiding in her jacket. Since his perception filter was broken, she had to argue with Jack to let her take him but he knew that she would be careful that no one saw him even if she took him along. Loki was important to her and she would never let anything happen to him if she had a choice "Jack?"
"What is it?" he asked, glancing down at her.
"That man… Adam? Who was he? He wasn't there before," she murmured "You never told me about him either."
Jack froze "What do you mean? Adam's been with the team for years. He was with us at the warehouse."
Tyra frowned in confusion. This all pointed to compulsion but she was sure that if Adam were a vampire she would know. There was something off about him and he didn't smell right but she didn't actually know what he was "What are you talking about?"
"What am I talking about?" Jack blinked "What are you talking about?" He studied her closely, seeing that she was honestly confused "Tyra, do you honestly not know him?"
"I don't," she shook her head, leaning against Jack's arm as they continued moving through the streets of Cardiff.
"How is it that everyone remembers him but…" Jack trailed off, remembering the reactions of the others. The moment they arrived, each of his team was alarmed at his presence. It only took a moment before Adam - "You're the only one who hasn't been in contact with him in some kind."
Tyra bit her lip "What are you going to do? What if he makes you forget?"
"I have a plan," Jack told her soothingly, running a hand up and down her arm comfortingly "But just to make sure I want you to stay with your friends until this is dealt with."
"Okay," Tyra nodded. She had no wish to be in the middle of another of Jack's situations. Not right now. Normally, she would be the first in line behind the Doctor and Jack but at the moment, she just wanted some peace and quiet to calm down a little. She was a little scared to see the Titanic survivors again but she wanted to see how they settled in. They had seen her right after everything happened and she hated it. Hated that so many people had seen her as weak as she was. Mikael had done a number on her. He had a thousand years to figure out how to best torture them… And all that time had paid off. With everything that happened, he had managed to keep her weak even weeks after he was back in his coffin. It made her feel even worse. The fact that even now when everything was over and done with, she was weak.
"Tyra," Foon exclaimed, seeing the girl they had last seen months ago. She waved to Jack as he walked away, pulling Tyra into the house "Come in. How are you?"
Tyra's lips twitched into a small smile "I'm alright. How about the three of you? How did you settle in?"
"Earth is amazing," Foon told her "Not as advanced as Sto but the people seem… nicer."
"Is that her?" a voice called from where Tyra assumed was the kitchen "Hello."
Tyra studied the three curiously, taking in the differences. She hadn't been too lucid back on the Titanic but she remembered enough of the three of them. They had been incredibly nice to her "You look happier," she noted, setting Loki down.
Mr Copper waved her over to a sofa and handed her a steaming cup of tea "Torchwood has helped a lot," he told her "Your Jack has made sure that we had everything we needed and even found us some work."
"That's good," she hummed.
"Who is that little one?" Morvin asked, bending down to pet Loki when the puppy walked over to sniff at his leg.
"Oh, that's Loki," Tyra explained "The Doctor took me to Barcelona a while ago and Loki attached himself to me."
'You my mama,' Loki nodded seriously, flaring his wings in pleasure when Morvin hit his sweet spot 'Ooh. Good pet.'
Tyra snorted "Keep doing what you're doing," she nodded at Morvin "He likes it."
After a moment of silence, Foon sat down her cup "So… Tell us more about the Doctor. Jack didn't really tell us much apart from the fact that he travelled with the two of you before?"
"What do you want to know?" Tyra questioned, tilting her head.
"Is it always as… excitable with him?" Mr Copper asked and lowered his voice as he continued "I still have nightmares from the Titanic."
Tyra's eyes shot to him as he looked to the side in embarrassment "It's relatively normal, yes," she sighed "It's one of the reasons I'm here in Cardiff at the moment." She bit her lip for a moment before she let out a long breath "You have nothing to be ashamed of, you know? I've seen a lot of shit over the past… thousand or so years and having nightmares after a traumatic experience are definitely nothing to be ashamed of. I'm not really sure how much of this is true but I heard that nightmares are your subconscious' way of working through what happened. I kind of like the idea."
"Do you have nightmares?" Mr Copper asked before he realised what he asked "Sorry. You don't have to…"
"It's alright," Tyra shook her head "Yes. I have nightmares. Had them for a very long time."
Foon rested her hand on Tyra's arm, sending her a sad look when she flinched away from her touch "Sorry."
Tyra ran a hand over Loki's wing. He had tried to jump onto the couch, failing miserably until Tyra picked him up with a small grin "Don't worry about it. I'm not too big on being touched at the moment. It's been a… a rough couple of months, I guess."
"Enough about this now," Morvin shook his head "Tell us about your adventures. I'm sure you have some interesting stories."
"Oh, you have no idea," Tyra coughed in amusement.
Foon raised her eyebrows "Well, then tell us."
"Alright," Tyra held up her hands in surrender, relaxing against the back of the sofa a little as she started on telling them about some of their adventures. It didn't take long until the other three were roaring with laughter at the Doctor's obliviousness and just pure thickheadedness.
"What do you think about having a picnic?" Foon asked, glancing out of the window "The weather is surprisingly good today. Might be a good idea to take advantage of it while we can."
Tyra hummed tiredly "I take it the weather here is as bad as in London?"
"Worse, I think," Morvin laughed "In London, they don't have the wind and the cold coming from the Sea."
"Point," she shot back and fought to get off the couch "If you want to go out, I don't mind. As long as I don't have to walk too far?"
Foon waved her off "Don't you worry. Bute Park is a fifteen-minute walk from here. That's alright, isn't it? I'm afraid, neither of us has a license yet. Jack wanted us to learn to live on Earth first before we go further."
"That's fine," Tyra nodded and looked down at Loki "Can I leave Loki here? Having a dog with wings run around would be a bit… much. I don't like it but there's not much I can do about that."
Morvin knelt down to scratch Loki in his favourite spot "You're not going to destroy our home, are you?" he asked playfully, laughing when Loki turned to puppy putty in his hands "Of course you're not. You're a good boy. Yes, you are."
"Don't spoil him," Tyra shook her head, nudging Loki in the side lightly "He's never going to want to leave if you do."
"Well, we can't have that, can we?" Morvin snorted, getting up. He moved over to Foon, wrapping his arms around her from behind "So, what have you planned? Are we going to buy something to eat or take something?"
Foon debating for a moment before she shrugged "I was thinking we could go to that sandwich place by the park? The one we wanted to try for a while now."
"Sounds good to me," Morvin nodded.
"Oh, yes," Mr Copper hummed "It seems like a good place to get something." He turned to Tyra "Their food looks great. It's a wonder we haven't tried it yet. Every time we walk past, we stop."
"It has to be good, then," Tyra laughed, rolling her eyes at his expression. She bent down to be closer to Loki's height "You behave. We'll be back soon, alright? I'll bring you something to eat later."
'Okay, mama. Be careful,' Loki panted happily.
"I will be. Promise."
Elijah cursed himself when he realised that he had no idea where Tyra was. How was he supposed to find her in a city this big? He didn't have her phone number either, so calling her was out of the question. He didn't even have Niklaus' new number. Something was telling him that his brother had set him up to fail.
It only took five minutes for his phone to chime, signalling a new text.
'Bute Park'
He would take that back. Maybe it wouldn't be too hard to find Tyra. Elijah still wasn't sure what he was supposed to say to her. After all, he hadn't really seen her in almost a hundred years. Not since the twenties and the time before that they didn't even have the chance to talk before she vanished. He couldn't blame her though.
His talk with Niklaus had been surprising. If he thought that Tyra would blame the Hybrid for daggering her over and over, he was proven wrong by what he had been told. Of course, that didn't mean that she forgave Elijah for his hand in putting her into a box. She had been cold to him during their last meeting but not enough so that he was worried about how she would react to him.
"Is he coming over here?" Elijah heard a woman whisper when he got closer to where his sister was sitting in the shade of a tree. The park was big but vampire hearing paired with good eye-sight had made spotting his baby sister easy. What he hadn't expected was her company. A woman and two men were animatedly talking about how it was living on Earth.
Tyra looked up at him, dropping the sandwich she was holding in her hand "What?" she breathed, narrowing her eyes. She awkwardly climbed to her feet, causing him to catalogue her pale skin and the dark bags under her eyes "Elijah."
"Tyra," Elijah nodded "How are you?"
She clenched her jaw, the memory of him punching his hand into Klaus' chest caused her to flinch back a little "What do you want? How did you even find me?"
"Niklaus sent me," Elijah explained, glancing at his sister's friends curiously. They had gotten up, standing close behind his sister as if trying to protect her. Curious.
"Why?"
Elijah relaxed his stance when he realised what she might be thinking "I believe he was rather worried for you after your call the other day."
"So he sent you?" Her voice was practically dripping doubt all over the ground "Why don't I believe that?" She glared at him, jabbing her finger into his chest "Oh, that's right. You tried to kill him.
Elijah caught her wrist when she went to jab him again but let go immediately when he saw the pain flash through her eyes "What happened?" he asked gently. He reached out to cup her face, broadcasting his moves for her to see "Ty…"
The woman behind Tyra cleared her throat, gesturing to the blanket "Shall we sit?"
"Thank you," Elijah inclined his head. He searched Tyra's eyes for a moment before he moved them both over to the blanket "Forgive me for interrupting your picnic."
The older man waved the apology off "Don't worry. How do you two know each other?"
"Tyra is my sister," Elijah told her, wrapping his arm around Tyra's waist. She tensed for a moment before she took a deep breath and relaxed into his side, letting her head fall to his shoulder "My name is Elijah."
"Nice to meet you," the woman smiled at him, shaking his outstretched hand "I'm Foon. This is my husband Morvin and Clive."
"Pleasure."
Jack rang the doorbell, trying to stop himself from yawning too much. He was exhausted and the nap by the cells hadn't exactly helped at all. While he had no idea what happened, thankfully he had written himself a note about Tyra, otherwise, he was sure he'd have forgotten to pick her up.
"Jack," Tyra grinned, throwing herself into his arms.
Jack let out a small laugh, ecstatic that she was as happy as she was. He hadn't seen her this carefree in a while "Valkyrie. I take it you had a good time?"
Tyra nodded and pulled him into the house "'Lijah is here," she murmured quietly, knowing that her brother would hear her whether she was speaking at a normal volume or not "Apparently, Nik sent him after our talk the other day."
"How do you feel about that?" Jack asked, tilting her head up to look her in the eyes.
Tyra shrugged "I'm too tired to stay mad at him. Or at any of my siblings really. I just want us to be a family again. With Finn and Kol and Bekah… I missed them so much. What happened during the Year put things into perspective."
Jack pressed a kiss to her forehead "Maybe it's time to stop running from them? I may not have seen how they act around you but I did meet… three of your siblings." He looked up to see Elijah standing in the doorway behind Tyra "You're welcome to come to the Hub with us. Tyra is currently staying there but if you two would like to have your own space, I'm sure we can find a place."
Tyra bit her lip and looked from Elijah to Jack and back to her brother "Can we?" She shifted nervously "I think we have a lot to talk about."
"Does that mean that you'll explain why…?" Elijah trailed off.
"I'm sure you know my reasoning," Tyra sighed "But yes. I think it's time you and I talk. Nik and I already had this conversation a while ago." She let out a sigh and moved over to bury herself in Elijah's arms "I really missed you, brother."
Elijah rested his head on Tyra's and exhaled deeply "I missed you too, little one."
Jack smiled at them before he clapped his hands "Now that that's out of the way… Go and grab Loki and say your goodbyes. I need to go back to the Hub soon. The others are at home."
