Chapter 37 The Metal Clan
It's been a couple days since the incident at Ba Sin Se and since the group got the new airbenders.
And of course since Sean and Korra learned that Zaheer was out and after her once more.
Of course Sean started to step up his own training to insure he could protect his family not wanting to lose them after the loss of his first one.
Right now they were on the ground as Korra was playing fetch with her dog using airbending to launch a ball into the air while Sean rubbed Lizzie's chin making her let out soft roars.
"While you're playing fetch, Four of the most dangerous criminals in the world are hunting you down. We should get moving." Lin said.
"Chill out. Theres no way they would be out here of all places so suddenly." Sean said.
"Besides, no one knows where I am except us." Korra said holding her son who giggled making her smile as Naga came back with the ball before dropping it. "I think she wants you to throw it." Korra said making Lin look down seeing it covered in drool.
"I'll pass. Thanks." Lin said.
"Yo!" David said jumping down.
"We just got a call on the radio about another airbender." Asami said.
"About time." Sean said.
"Where are they?" Korra asked excited.
"A city called Zaofu, Home of the Metal clan." Mako said making Lin widen her eyes.
"You know the place?" Korra asked Lin.
"Uh, never been, but I don't want you going there. I'd rest a lot easier if you were back safe in Republic City." Lin said.
"Need we remind you Raiko has it out for us since he blames us for his misfortune and has tried to take Junior on several occasions." Sean said.
"Why is he trying to take him away from you two anyway?" Asami asked.
"For his own selfish reasons I'm sure." Sean said.
"If there's a new airbender in Zaofu, then thats where we're going next." Korra said.
"Is there a reason you don't wanna go?" Adler asked.
"None of your business!" Lin yelled slashing Naga's ball before stomping inside the airship as Naga whimpered. (That was just mean even for her)
"It's ok Girl. We'll get you a new one." Korra said comforting her dog.
"The hell was that about?" Jospeh asked.
"I'm thinking theres someone there she doesn't want to see." Will said as they got inside.
Later
Soon they arrived at the Metal clan.
"Oh whoa." Will said.
"Not bad." Hudson said.
"Wow, wow, wow. An entire city made of metal, Whoo." Bolin cheered.
"You should feel right at home, Beifong." David said.
"Hmm." Lin said unimpressed making Sean and Korra look at each other before the former shrugged.
Soon enough they landed before Bolin was quick to rush out.
"You coming?" David asked.
"Whats there to see? It's metal. big whoop. Just find the airbender, and let's get moving." Lin said.
"Is there something you wanna tell us? You're hiding something." Fiore said.
"I agree. This is unlike you. Is there someone here you don't wanna see?" Sean asked.
"I don't need to explain myself to you. And don't tell anyone I'm here." Lin said.
"Whatever Chief cranky pants." Korra said making Sean snicker before they walked off before they were greeted by some people.
"Avatar Korra and Avatar Kruger, It is an honor to meet you. My name is Aiwei." Aiwei said.
"Hello! We're Avatars too." Sara said as the others appeared.
"Ah my apologies. These two are more known to me is all." Aiwei said.
"He's not wrong on that." Hitomi said.
"Well, either way thanks for having us." Korra said bowing.
"Is this everyone?" Aiwei asked.
"Yup." Sean said.
"So can we meet the new airbender?" Korra asked.
"Of course. Right this way." Aiwei said leading them on a high speed train rail.
Meanwhile
"Holy fucking shit." Hendricks said seeing hundreds of new airbenders on Air Temple island.
"HA! When Tenzin sees this many new airbenders he's gonna have a heart attack." Reznov said.
"Most of these people were just ordinary folks who wanted something new in their lives." Julia said before one of the new airbenders accidentally blew himself into a wall.
"Heh! These guys need some serious work." Diaz said chuckling.
"Excuse me, Hello?"
Everyone turned and saw Zaheer but his head was shaved and they didn't know him.
"My name is Yorru. I heard this was a place to come if you're a new airbender." Zaheer said.
"Thats right pal." Hendricks said.
"Well, a couple of weeks ago, I woke up, and suddenly, I could do this." Zaheer said creating a small twister in hand.
"Nice. We got a natural here. Unlike these idiots who keep blowing into walls or blowing everyone else around them making a mess." Reznov said making most of the new airbenders hold their heads down while Zaheer chuckled lightly.
Meanwhile
"Holy crap." Sean said seeing the whole city was made of metal.
"This actually would be a nice place to live for a while." Korra said holding Junior close who smiled at the sights.
"What you want me to buy a house out here?" Sean asked chuckling.
"Come on it looks nice here." Korra said.
"I'll think about it." Sean said.
"Translation...Never." Joseph said before Sean kicking him in the balls. "AHHH!" Joesph yelled holding his balls making the others laugh.
Thats when they passed a statue most were familiar with.
"That Statue honors. the first metelbender, Toph Beifong, who expanded the possibilities of what benders were capable of. Here, everyone is encouraged to reach his or her highest potential." Aiwei said.
"Does Toph Live here? Are we gonna get to meet her?" Bolin asked excited.
"Sadly no. She used to visit from time to time, but she left to wander the world in search for enlightenment." Aiwei said.
"Translation...She wanted to be left the hell alone." Sean said getting some laughs. (I can't be the only one who thinks that)
Soon they arrived at some estate.
"Wow, Is this where the Airbender lives?" Korra asked.
"Yes, but first, her mother wants to meet you." Aiwei said leading them inside seeing metal benders doing some practice routine.
"The hell is that? A combat exercise?" Mason asked.
"Not exactly. They are rehearsing for a dance premiere next month." Aiwei said as they finished before a woman noticed them.
"Thats it for today, everyone." The woman said before approaching them.
"Allow me to introduce the Matriarch of the Metal Clan, Suyin." Aiwei said.
"Please, Call me Su. Great to finally meet you Avatar Korra and Avatar Kruger." Suyin said.
"What are we? Garbage?" Fiore asked.
"My apologies. These two and the other top four are more known in the world compared to the rest of the Fourth Generation." Suyin said.
"She's not wrong on that." Sean said.
"And the others must be Mako, Bolin, David and Asami." Suyin said.
"You've done your research." Mako said impressed.
"I make it my business to know who's visiting my city." Suyin said.
"So you're a dancer?" Korra asked.
"Dancer, Leader, Wife, Mother, Collector of Rare meteorites. You'll find people here have many skills and interests." Suyin said as Aiwei whispered in her ear before frowning. "Kruger why did you lie when Aiwei asked if there was anyone else with you?" Suyin asked surprising them.
"Hmm? Now how did you know I lied?" Sean asked curious.
"I'm a Truth seer. When people lie, Their heart rate and breathing increase. I can sense the most subtle of changes." Aiwei said making Sean grin.
"Really? Ok see if I'm lying? I take pride in the scars on my body that my aunt and uncles inflected on me 17 years ago." Sean said making him raise an eyebrow.
"I know you're clearly lying but clearly you're good at hiding it without showing a tell." Aiwei said.
"HA! I told you I could pull it off!" Sean yelled at Hudson who chuckled in amusement.
"How'd you learn to do that?" Suyin asked impressed.
"Ah thats something the CIA teach its members when they are interrogated if captured." Adler said.
"Very clever." Aiwei said impressed.
"So anyway the person we left out was Lin. The Chief of Police in Republic City." Sean said.
"Lin's here? Well, I would love to see her." Suyin said.
"Wait, you two know each other?" Korra asked.
"You're joking, right?" Suyin asked.
"No...She said she didn't want anyone to know she was here. She never brought you up." Sean said making her sigh.
"Why am I not surprised." Suyin said.
"So how do you two know each other?" David asked.
"I'm her sister." Suyin said shocking them. (I'm gonna be honest I did not see that coming when I first saw this)
Meanwhile
Lin was still on the airship looking at the city.
"Found out the reason you didn't want to come here." Sean said as they appeared behind her making her face them seeing Suyin.
"Why didn't you ever say you have a sister?" Korra asked.
"Half Sister." Lin stated.
"Me, Will and Turok aren't related by blood but we act like it." Sean said.
"Yup." Will said.
"Same Mom, Different dads. So what? We're blood, Lin. And After 30 years, the least you could do is say hello." Suyin said before Lin turned around. (30 years? Thats just sad)
"I have nothing to say to you." Lin said.
"You lot have spoken in 30 years? Christ." Joesph said.
"Why?" Takina asked.
"Ask her. I tried." Suyin said.
"Oh, don't put that on me. You're the one who tore our family apart." Lin said.
"And you've done a bang-up job keeping it that way." Suyin said.
"You haven't changed one bit, have you?" Lin asked.
"Look, we can stand here arguing about the past all day, but thats not the reason you all came here. My daughter is thrilled to meet you all." Suyin said.
"Lin, your niece is the new airbender. Isn't that amazing?" Korra asked.
"Yeah, terrific." Lin said plainly. (Wow)
Soon they arrived back at the estate seeing two boys playing some game with metal disks.
"Those are my two youngest, Wei and Wing. They're playing a hame called power disc. They invented it all on their own." Suyin said before Wei scored. "I'm so proud of those two." Suyin said.
Thats when they met her second oldest Huan who was a bit of a gothic artist who creeped most of them out.
"You won't turn out like that will you sweetie?" Korra asked her son who laughed in her arms.
"I very much doubt it." Sean said.
"Better not. I don't want a gothic nephew here." Will said.
Soon they continued on their path.
"And this is my daughter Opal." Suyin said before she spotted them.
"Wow, Avatar Korra and Avatar Kruger. I can't believe you're really here. You both are so amazing." Opal said.
"What are we? Invisible?" Joseph asked getting fed up with being ignored.
"Oh. Are you Avatars of old Too?" Opal asked.
"Yes. Joesph Blackwood the Avatar of Stone, Fiore the Avatar of Light, Takina the Avatar of Metal, Kalder the Avatar of Storms, Hitomi the Avatar of Air and Sara the Avatar of Mind." Sean said.
"Wow. I never expected to see so many avatars in one place." Opal said.
"It is great to meet you, Opal." Korra said holding her son close.
"Opal? That's a beautiful name." Bolin said making her blush.
"Thanks." Opal said.
"I'm Bolin." Bolin said.
"Opalm but, uh, You already knew that." Opal said.
Sean and Korra looked at each other and grinned.
"Great we found the Airbender. Lets take her back to the airship and get out of here." Lin said.
"Knock it off." David said.
"And the woman trying to abduct you is your aunt Lin." Suyin said.
"Really? I've always wanted to meet you. My mom has told me so many stories about you." Opal said.
"I'm sure she has." Lin said.
"So I've set all of you up in the guesthouses. While Korra trains Opal." Suyin said.
"Wait hold up. You don't seriously think we came all this way just to train her. we were hoping she would join Tenzin and the others at the Air Temple." Sean said.
"That sounds amazing." Opal said.
"Nonsense. This is where Opal's home and family are." Suyin said.
"Well, I guess I could train her for a while." Korra said.
"Actually...Suyin how secure is this place?" Sean asked.
"Very. The city closes when the sun goes down making it impossible for anyone to get in...Why?" Suyin asked.
"Well...The thing is theres a group of people after Korra who tried to kidnap her 15 years ago. I was hoping perhaps we could stay here until we've captured them. Since its so secure it makes sense to stay here for a while." Sean said.
"It does have a tactical advantage." Hudson said.
"Absolutely not. We're leaving." Lin said making Sean glare at her before entering the Ghost Rider State.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know the safety of my wife and son were of no CONCERN TO YOU!" Sean roared pushing her back.
"Easy kid." Adler said.
"Calm down." Korra said calming him down as he turned human again.
"Look I just think it would be better if we were in Republic City where I can keep her safe." Lin said.
"Need we remind you once more that Raiko would clearly sell her out just for his own cruel reasons. Forget it! I say we stay here." Sean said.
"It does make more sense to stay here instead of being on the move all the time. Besides even if we did head back to the states they would still follow." Korra said holding Junior close.
"She's got a point." Woods said.
"Then it's settled. Until these criminals are brought down Korra will stay here." Suyin said making Lin frown.
Meanwhile
The new Airbenders were practicing the same training device Korra once used a couple years ago when she and Sean first arrived.
Thats when one flew right out.
"Oy. Is that seriously the best you can do?" Reznov asked unimpressed.
"I like to see you Try."
"Fine." Reznov said before he went in and did it perfectly which amazed the others. "As all of you may know Air is the symbol of freedom but it also represents death as well. The reason The Avatars of Life, Death, Courage and Nature are the strongest is because everything the other Avatars of old Represent we also draw our powers from." Reznov said .
"I never really thought of it that way." Ikki said before Zaheer went in and also did it perfectly.
"Well...Not only do we have a natural when it comes to airbending but also when it comes to movement. You all could learn from him." Julia said making the others groan while Zaheer chuckled lightly.
"Hey!" Taylor yelled getting their attention.
"We just got a message from Tenzin. He's with a whole group of Airbenders at the Northern temple, and he wants all of us to join them." Kya said.
"And the Avatar is with them?" Zaheer asked.
"No theres someone after her so Kruger suggested they split up." Hendricks said.
"Thats a shame." Zaheer said.
Meanwhile
The metal domes at the Metal clan closed up to prevent anyone from entering.
While the younger members of the group were in the dinning hall as Hudson and the others were scouting the place to set up defensive positions incase anything happened.
"Tonight, for your dining pleasure, I present a seared wild Kyoshi elephant Koi, paired with a ginger-infused pea tendril and hibiscus root salad."
"Impressive." Sean said taking a bite.
"Mmm. Never get served this high quality food like this." Korra said as she ate while Junior sat with Naga who ate her own food.
"Mmm. I have to admit, I was pretty skeptical when he said PEA TENDRIL. But this is delicious." Bolin said.
"I know right." Opal said.
"So how is your search for the new airbenders?" Suyin asked Korra while Sean looked at Junior.
"Honestly kinda slow." Korra.
"Korra." Sean tried to say.
"We had to rescue a whole group from the Earth Queen." Korra said.
"Korra." Sean tried again.
"I mean...OW!" Korra yelled as Sean Bonked her on the head. "What the! What was that for?" Korra asked annoyed before he pointed before she looked and gasped.
Reason being?
Junior slowly stood up on two feet before slowly walking to his mother as Naga nudged him forward.
"Oh." Korra said about to cry before he reached her and she picked him. "Oh sweetie." Korra said as the others smiled. Even Lin couldn't keep the small smile off her face.
"M-M-Mama." Junior said making Korra cry a little at his first word.
"Oh. That just figures. What about me?" Sean asked his son.
"D-D-Dada." Junior said making him smile kissing his forehead.
"Aw." Fiore said.
"About time." David said as Asami held him close.
"Sorry we're late, everyone."
Most of the group widened their eyes seeing Varrick of all people walking in with Zhu Li.
"What the?" Sean tried to say.
"Varrick." Bolin said excited till his brother glared at him.
"What the heck are you doing here?" David asked with lightning bouncing off him while the other Avatars were confused but said nothing.
"Great question, David. I mean...What are any of us doing here?" Varrick asked rather insanely.
"He means why are you not in a cell or that hotel suit of yours?" Sean asked with his claws out.
"Oh that...Well when that thing attacked Republic City it opened a hole for me to escape and here I am." Varrick said.
"Korra cover his eyes." Sean said about to kill Varrick.
"Now, now. I know He's done some questionable things in the past but everyone does deserve a second chance. After all David here was the Winter Solider for 5 years because of Cinder and her brothers and he did some things even worse than Varrick did. But he got a second chance." Suyin said making Sean frown before his claws retracted.
Thats when Lin left and slammed the door.
After Dinner was over Sean and Korra were in Suyin's office.
"Nice." Sean said seeing a metal replica of the Metal clan.
"You know, before I built this city, there was nothing here. I wanted to make my mark on the world." Suyin said.
"It's amazing." Korra said holding Junior close who was asleep in her arms. "Thank you for being so welcoming and letting us stay. And I'm sorry for how Lin's been acting." Korra said sitting down with her husband.
"Can we ask, what happened between you two?" Sean asked.
"It's complicated. We didn't have a normal childhood. Neither of us knew our fathers, and Mom was always busy being Chief of police. Because Mom grew up in such a strict house, She gave us all the freedom in the world, Hoping we'd figure out our own paths." Suyin said.
"Sounds like something my Grandfather would do though not as much freedom for good reason." Sean said knowing his Grandfather let his children pick their own paths on how to achieve peace.
"It sounds like a good thing." Korra said.
"And in a way, it was. But we both ended up fighting for mom's attention. Lin followed in her footsteps and became a cop. I was more of a rebel." Suyin said making Sean snicker.
"Your joking." Sean said making her giggle.
"Oh no I'm serious. Mom wasn't too happy with how either of us turned out. When I was 16, I left home to explore the world. I sailed the sees on a pirate ship, joined a traveling circus for a while, and lived in a sandbender commune in the desert. It took me a while but I finally realized what I was looking for was a family. So I bought this plot of land, found a brilliant architect who later became my husband. And created a place I could truly call home." Suyin said.
"It sounds like you've created a perfect life here." Korra said.
"Almost. I always wanted Lin to be part of it, but I gave up hope years ago when she never even attempted to come here." Suyin said sadly.
Meanwhile
Reznov was about to head to bed when he heard Kya and Zaheer talking.
"Whats going on in here?" Reznov asked.
"Just having a talk is all." Kya said.
"Might I ask something?" Zaheer asked.
"Of course." Reznov said.
"What exactly happened to the last generation of Avatars. Where I come from not a lot of information passes through." Zaheer said making him frown before sighing.
"Altair's older siblings were corrupted by the most vile black magic when they were gone for 30,000 years. No one knows when or How. But it took time to fully corrupt them without them realizing. When it did...They killed thier younger brother, Nearly killed David and physically and emotionally scarred Kruger hence why he's always covering his face and body. We all have our marks." Reznov said removing his right arm surprising Zaheer.
"You know you seem to know a lot about Airbenidng history for someone who's just gotten it." Kya said to Zaheer.
"I've always been fascinated with the culture." Zaheer said.
"And you moved through those gates like a natural. Where did you say you were from?" Kya asked.
"From a small village up north. You've probably never heard of it." Zaheer said as she frowned.
"Wait a minute...ZAHEER!" Kya yelled before using water bending to attack him but he dodged before Reznov used airbending on him but he dodged as well before taking Tenzin's air staff and bolted.
"Oh no you don't!" Reznov yelled rushing through the window before blasting him with black lightning but he dodged.
"If it means anything I am sorry for what you all went through. No child should have to suffer a fate like that." Zaheer said before flying away making Reznov glare.
Meanwhile
Lin was in her room reading the papers when someone knocked on her door.
"Who is it?" Lin asked annoyed before Sean and Korra walked in.
"It's us. We brought someone who wants to talk to you." Korra said as Opal walked in.
"You wanna Talk? Then Talk." Lin said.
"I'm sorry being here has been so hard for you. When you showed up, I was so excited to get to know you. I'd heard so many great things about you from mom and Grandma Toph. So I guess I was kinda sad that you didn't wanna get to know me. Believe me, I know my family can be a little crazy and overwhelming sometimes, But I would love it so much if you would be a part of it." Opal said making Lin frown.
"Get out." Lin said.
"Sorry. Did I say something wrong?" Opal asked.
"Get out!" Lin said making Opal cry before running out.
"The hell is wrong with you? Don't get mad at her it was our idea. We thought it would help you snap out of whatever funk you're in, but I guess we were wrong." Korra said.
"Why don't you two focus on fixing the world and stop trying to fix my family!" Lin yelled.
"Your never gonna change. You're gonna be a lonely bitter woman till the end. I'll tell you one thing I would give anything so have my old family back the way it used to be. But you're too selfish to appreciate what you have." Sean said as they left not seeing the tears running down her face.
