Hello peoples, welcome to the first full chapter of this story written within like 4 months. That's the time gap between now and when I wrote chapter 1-37, so let's see if I still have the same touch ;)
But to celebrate, imma give y'all a little bonus chapter, between Remmy and Zoe that happens right before the start of the chapter, but I wasn't going to include it because it doesn't involve Percy at all.
But, here it is anyway, cuz why not, ig.
~Bonus "Chapter"~
Remleon placed the unconscious demigod on the bed before plopping himself down on his back next to him, raising a hand to his forehead, feigning exhaustion. Though to be honest, he didn't have to try much as he was on the brink of passing out.
Zoe seated herself on a small stool near the edge of the room, subtly placing her as far away as possible from the two, but Remmy paid it no mind.
"The lotus casino... I never thought I'd come here for protection." Zoe said with a little sarcasm.
Remleon only grunted. "The herbs you planted should drain out the smell, but if they don't then the gods outside of this place will be the least of our worries.
Zoe continued to stare out the window instead of replying, leaving the room in a deep silence. Remleon didn't mind as he rolled over, planting his face into the sheets with Percy to his side.
The two were sleeping across on the bed, making no use of the pillows as they're feet hung off the side, dangling over.
Zoe had wanted to adjust the demigod at first, but couldn't bring herself to do it.
After what seemed like forever, Remleon finally spoke, his face still in the sheets.
"Why are you here, huntress?" He asked muffled. "Helping a wolf and a demigod, outside of your hunt?"
Zoe was a little caught of guard by the question, but composed herself quickly.
"Why I'm here is none of your business, Agreceon, but I will say that it was not my choice to travel with you too." She said with spite.
Remleon only chuckled a bit. "I was pretty confident that this all wasn't your choice, but I'm starting to think different." He said.
"Eh?" Asked Zoe. "And what does that mean, wolf." She spat out.
"Nothing much, I just find it weird that a hunter gets along so well with a boy demigod, well relatively so, at least. I do think that over time you've come to like him." He said with a huff.
He lifted his hands to his chest and pushed off the bed, making breathing a little easier. "Though to be honest..." Agreceon trailed off as he found himself face to face with an arrow, Zoe only hands length away.
Remmy froze for a bit, instincts kicking in. Despite him usually being laid back in the face of danger, Zoe having a the tip an inch away from his skull was enough to make him serious.
"Are you implying that I've gone against my vow as a huntress of Artemis." She said with a solemn voice. The deadly tone she used was different from the usually anger in her threats.
"To insult me in such a way, that could only be made up for with your death."
Remleon looked up the shaft of the arrow before making eye contact with the huntress, all with a blank face. Despite the situation, he couldn't help but notice the similarities between Zoe and a certain other huntress he had known in his past. The same fierceness, the same determination, though Zoe's face held something different. It held hatred.
He remembered that Zoe herself was also someone from back then, though much younger and much, much different.
After a second of thinking, he couldn't stop himself from missing the Zoe of the past, someone he had seen as a little sister. The fact that that same Zoe was the only seconds away from killing him, it was almost enough to let her do it.
And without him being able to control it, he felt something wet drip down the right side of his face, a single tear falling down his chin.
Though his face remained the same, void of any emotion, good or bad, the tear somehow broke through his impenetrable barrier, revealing his thoughts to the huntress.
Despite the fact that Zoe was dead set on ending the wolf right here, the tear was all she needed to falter, quite possibly saving the wolf's life.
"A-Agreceon?" She asked. Her voice was a little shaky.
The wolf's eyes went wide as he realized what had just happened. At the same time, both Remmy and the huntress turned around quickly, avoid each other's faces as old memories came back up.
Remleon coughed a bit as he stumbled over his words. "My-My bad." He said, quickly recovering. All of this was really out of character for him.
Zoe herself was flustered, more then she had been in a long time. She didn't know why she reacted this way to seeing Agreceon's face like that, but it wasn't something she enjoyed.
"A tear!" She though to herself. A tear had just fallen from the wolf's face, and she had been there to witness it. That alone was enough to put off anyone, especially a hunter.
The two didn't speak for minutes as they were deep in though, but eventually Remleon spoke, breaking the silence.
"Ahem. A-anyways." He started. "As I was saying, the fact that Percy is still asleep...I would've thought he would have woken up by now." He said.
Zoe finally regained composure enough as she replied. "I'm afraid that he pushed himself too far. The energy around him, his aura... it is faint." She said.
Remmy nodded. He could tell from the second Percy had passed out. Over the past couple of days, Percy had been power using much too great for him.
Wether it was this or withdrawal from the stone of souls finally catching up with him, he wasn't looking too good.
Assuming he did wake up, based off the state he was in, Remleon doubted he could be much help.
Remmy through his hand up in exasperation. "Damn it all!" Without another word, he got up and walked towards the door, grabbing a plant pot filled with Zoe's special herbs. He lifted it to his nose before grabbing the door knob.
"I'll be on the roof." He said. "Come up when Percy is awake."
Without another word, Remleon left the room, leaving Zoe alone with the unconscious demigod.
Immediately, Zoe got up and rearranged Percy, stretching his body across the whole bed, making it hopefully more comfortable.
She raised two fingers and placed them on the boys neck.
After a moment, she was able to to feel a faint and slow pulse. He was alive, and would probably survive, but if he could recover was another story.
As a hunter, Zoe was pretty familiar with life energy as she was pretty in tune with natural aura, and she could see clear as day that Percy had little of it.
He was dying.
The hunter let out a sigh as she looked up towards the sky. It was at times like these that she felt true hatred towards Apollo for even sending her on this quest. Maybe she would've thought different if she knew how things would end up.
Chapter 38 :)
I woke up groggily as my vision slowly came to. At first all I saw was a bright white light, but eventually I could see details, revealing a white roof with a ceiling fan right above me.
"Perseus!" I heard a voice call out to my side. I saw a figure appear at my side, but I couldn't really determine who it was. All I saw was a thick blanket of hair pushed back by a crown seated on a pretty face.
At first she looked like a crush I had had back in sixth grade, and then a little like Eris, but eventually I realized that it was in fact Zoe.
"Ehh?" I grunted, before sitting up. I immediately regretted it as I felt completely numb, struggling to even sit upright. I was a couple of seconds away from falling off the bed, but was saved by Zoe grabbing me by my shoulders and properly propping me up on the back side of the bed.
After I was able to hold myself, she took a seat near the bottom of the bed.
"How long was I out for?" I asked, scared to hear the answer. I didn't necessarily have all the time in the world, and I defiantly shouldn't have been spending it knocked out.
"Not long." She said, making me relax a little. "But it was deep. To be honest, I'm surprised you can even speak right now. I must say, Perseus, you should be dead right now. Phonoi should've been your last fight."
I thought about her words for a minute. I had come close to death before, plenty of times, but this was different. Before and during my unconsciousness, there was a distinct feeling I had felt, even during my sleep.
It was like a fight. A fight for my life.
"Though, I suppose we should just be grateful that your alive. I don't know if it was your will to live, or some outside force, or both, but somehow your here before me, so that's enough for me." She said, getting up.
"If you can walk, then we need to go to the roof, Remleon will be waiting for us. Well plan our next move." She said.
I raised a brow. "Where exactly are we?" I asked.
"The Lotus Casino."
"...Shouldn't we be, like, in a trance right now?" I asked.
Zoe shook her head. "Moonlace's." She said. "I've placed them all around the room. Their properties, one of them is a clear mind, as long as you can smell them."
I thought about it, and decided I should probably make sure to keep one of the plants close. I'd never heard of someone escaping the casino, and I wasn't trying to test my luck.
I shifted a bit and placed my feet on the cold floor. With a little struggle, I forced myself to my feet, almost losing my balance, but I eventually caught myself.
I noticed Zoe looking at me with a puzzled look, and I gave her a questioning glance. "Yes?" I asked.
She quickly shook her head. "Nothing. It's just the fact that you can even walk..."
She didn't finish her sentence as I walked over to one of the plant pots with a flower with a silvery glow. "This it?" I asked.
Zoe nodded.
I picked up the pot and walked over to Zoe. "Let's go."
I followed the huntress out the room and down the hall. I walked past many different people who all looked completely different form one another, making me even more wary of the casino itself.
I didn't want to just be another face to someone who visited this place, decades from now.
Eventually me and Zoe made it to the elevator, and waited patiently for it to reach us. I didn't doubt we looked weird holding plant pots, but I wasn't about to risk anything.
After a minute, the doors opened revealing two people in the elevator, seemingly a girl and boy, both shorter then me, though I couldn't tell because they both had their backs towards us.
Zoe and I walked towards the opposite end and pressed the button for the top floor.
I noticed the that the two were going to floor 66, but payed it no mind. I wondered if they would break out the trance while next to the the moonlaces, but it didn't seem so.
"So what exactly do you plan on doing, now that all three of us are back together?" She asked.
"I'll tell you when we get to Remmy, but it's nothing good." I said solemnly. Zoe seemed to get the message as she stayed quiet all the way up until we departed from the two dark haired kids.
For some reason, even though I didn't even see their faces, I felt a distinct ping the second the two kids exited the elevator.
I felt my knees wobble a bit and Zoe turned around, fearing that I had passed out. "I'm fine." I got our through gnashed teeth.
We made our way to the roof without any more problems, and Zoe lowered her plant pot, so I guessed it was safe to breathe the outside air.
I looked ahead to see Remleon casually laying back with his feet near the edge of the roof. Once I got closer, I saw that the end didn't actually lead to death, but only a balcony with a pool right in the middle.
"Ahh, here we are. The gangs all together." He said, patting the floor to his side, beckoning me to sit. I heard Zoe shift a bit to my side uncomfortably, but she remained standing as I sat down next to the wolf.
"First off, your alive." He said.
I nodded. "Barely though. I don't know what would have happened if you two didn't show up." I said. "Thank you, for that."
The reaction of the two in front of me was almost enough to make me laugh. The surprise on their usually bland faces was comical, both apparently taken aback by my thanks.
"W-wow." Said Zoe softly.
"Who would've thought, the demigod prodigy knows how to say thank you." Said Remleon.
I only shrugged. "Just seemed right." I muttered.
"But anyways, we need to figure out what we're doing next. I assume you know, Perseus?"
I nodded. "His name is Pseudea, or currently Noir. He's the leader as of right now. We take him out, and the rest get off our backs." I told them.
Remleon raised a brow. "That's it? We kill one more god and this all comes to an end?"
I couldn't help but scowl. "It's not that easy. There's no doubt he'll be guarded, and even then, we don't know where he is. I was hoping he would be at the Wynn, but of course no such luck."
"All we found there were more murderous gods." Said the wolf.
I nodded in conformation. "Though, I do have some leads. The other two spots I have to hit are MGM Grand and Palms Place. Noir is definitely going to be at one of those."
Zoe gave a question look. "How exactly do you know all this? Did you perhaps meet someone during our separation."
I mentally facepalmed as I realized I couldn't yet these two about Limos. Though she was on out side, I had no doubt the both of them would be opposed to it.
"I can't tell you. I'm sorry."
The two didn't respond for a second, but eventually Remleon broke the silence.
"I guess that's fair, as long as we're not roaming around." He said. "But there still is one big problem."
"And that is?"
He pointed a finger at me. "Me and Percy, were not in the position to fight. I haven't checked yet so I'm not for sure, but I'm pretty sure my arms are broken, as well as my legs." He said.
"Plus, Percy here is without a functioning rib cage, as well as a broken shoulder." I didn't know how he could tell all this by a simple look, but I knew he was right. Though I had endured the pain (I still couldn't completely feel anything, to be honest), I could tell that the places he mentioned were especially hurting.
"And he's also almost dead, spiritually speaking. One hit from a god, and boom! No more Percy."
The way he said it made me especially scared, because even with him using a light tone, I knew he was serious.
Though, I couldn't stay quiet without a solution. "All I need is Amrbosia." I argued. Zoe perked up a bit, probably surprised I would ever suggest something like that.
"A little Ambrosia, some bandages and some herbs and I'll be fine." I said. "We're so close."
Zoe looked down. "It's beyond that, Perseus. It's your soul, just as Agreceon said, one hit from a god and your dead, no matter the condition of your physical body."
I sat in thought for a moment, deep in though. After a moment, I came to a decision.
"Then I won't get hit." I decided. "And if I do, I'll endure another one, wether I die or not. But no matter what happens, I need to make sure I finish what I started." I said defiantly.
I could tel the hunter wasn't too happy by the response. "You don't understand, Perseus. If you die here, then there will be no point in all of this!" She said throwing her hands up.
"You forget, boy, that I'm here to protect you, meaning I can't let you die!"
"Then I won't. It doesn't matter what you say, Zoe, I have to do this, wether you like it or not."
You see, telling this to a hunter while your essentially powerless isn't the best of ideas, specially for me. Before Zoe could kill me though, Remleon spoke up.
"Ahem. All of this sacrificing yourselfs business is good and all, but your both forgetting one thing." He said.
"Me. Like I said, I can't fight right now, no matter what I do, and without me we stand no chance. At all."
Zoe seemed to flare up for a bit, but quickly realized the truth behind his words.
"And what exactly do you plan on doing about this, wolf?" She asked.
"Simple. Ambrosia." He said, and I almost jumped up.
"Ambrosia?!" I asked. "Won't that kill you?"
The wolf shook his head and said, "Not exactly. You see, my demigod friend, just like you, I'm a half blood, technically. The same way I'm able to turn into a complete monster, I'm able to turn into a human, thus letting me eat ambrosia, as long as I remain a human of course."
It took me a while to inhale the information before I responded. "So you propose we heal you, as a human, and sacrifice your god like powers?"
He almost laughed. "I guess you'd can say it like that, but it's not that bad. I should be fine as a human, though not as strong of course. I'll have to be more careful, that's for sure."
"And your sure you can't just fight as you are right now?" Zoe asked.
He shook his head no. "Even if I wanted to, I can't. Even while fighting Makhai, my body was giving out, but the adrenaline helped. Now, it hurts like hell, even to take a single step. Wether I heal myself or not, I have no doubt that if I'm to see Makhai again, I'll lose."
I could see Zoe physically twitch. It was obvious she didn't like the situation, but she knew that she had no control.
"Let's say you do turn 'human' for the time being. What about Percy. He is still in no position to fight. Do you propose we leave him behind and fight by ourselves?" She asked.
"Absolutely not." I forced myself to my feet so I could face Zoe at eye level.
"I don't care if you had a prophecy or not, this is my battle. If you want to stop me, you'll have to fight me." I said defiantly. I reminisced on the last time I had done something like this, and remembers how it ended with a shiver.
Zoe held my gaze for a second before letting out a defeated a sigh.
"Fine then, if you insist on being difficult!" She yelled out. "But if we do this, we do it my way."
"Fine by me." I said, and with that, things were settled.
Zoe squatted done and whipped of her bag, taking out a small pouch of Ambrosia. They're were only 3 cubes left, and we were about to use 2 at once. It wasn't ideal, but it was necessary.
Before Zoe handed Remleon the cube, he said he had to full transform first. I didn't understand what he meant, because he looked petty human to me, but I soon understood.
I watched as the boy closed his eyes and took a deep breath. I saw his hair get a little darker and his features grow a little less sharp. Once he opened his eyes, I saw they no longer held the same fierce but dormant look, instead he looked more natural. Overall, he seemed to get a bit smaller too.
Before he took the cube though, he reached to his side, and for the first time ever I noticed a leather belt around the wolf's hip with a sheathed knife. I didn't even know Remleon used weapons.
I watched him take out the dagger and saw it to be a crude blade, maybe half the size of my forearm.
The blade itself was made with what seemed to be a tooth connected to a small bone, from what? I didn't know.
"It's been a long time since I've used this." Remmy said with a faraway look. I realized his voice was a little different, more relaxed.
I saw Zoe shift at the sight of the blade, but she said nothing.
Finally the wolf took the golden cube and ate it, and I couldn't help but wonder what he was tasting. I was more surprised though to not see the wolf burst into flames.
"And now you. Eat fast, boy."
I listened to the huntress and ate the food, yet again reminded of the bitter sweet taste of cookies I hadn't truly had in years. Cookies I would never have again.
I didn't think about it too hard though as a thought popped into my head. I had just had the ambrosia, yet I felt nearly the same. Yes, my physical pain had subsided, but I was barely able to move. In fact, it was like my mind and body were separate, as if I wasn't one person.
"Now that thats settled, we should get going. I don't like staying in one place for too long, especially not so close to the enemy."
Remleon let out a big yawn before standing up for the first time. "Ok then, I say we go to the MGM first, as it's closer. Assuming your source is right, then we should be able to end this, today." He said as he closed one eye and pointed at a building in the distance.
I nodded as I stood, still feeling weak, but at least now I could move properly.
"Not so fast, boy. I told you, if you are go with us then you do things my way. Timoria, or Retribution, it's much to taxing on your spirit. If you wish to fight, you'll be using something different."
I raised a brow.
The huntress's hip shimmered unti leather belt similar to Remmy's appeared, on this one was a much longer sheath. Zoe took out the sword to reveal a long silver blade. The hilt was inscribed with multiple different symbols as well as a moon sign at the hilts base.
It wasn't my style, but it was an impressive weapon.
Zoe undid the belt and handed it to me.
"You'll be using this. Hand over the ring." She said with a hand out.
"What?!" I asked.
"You heard me, hand me the ring and use that blade instead. Only then will you be allowed to come with us."
I scowled as I realized that if Zoe really wanted to, she could keep me knocked out while Remmy and her fought and probably lost.
I was about to complain but decided against it, handing the hunter my weapon.
I heard Remmy laugh to the side.0 Y'all's two relationship, it truly is something special."
I didn't know since when he was so upbeat, but I wasn't sure I liked it. Zoe's expression though surprised me.
I didn't think about it though as I put on the belt and sheathed the blade. It was a good size, and was probably the best sword I had used besides my very own.
"With that settled-" I didn't get to finish as I saw Remmy perk up.
It looked a little weird as I realized his nose was different as a human, but that was whatever.
"Monster." Was all he said before taking out his blade. Me and Zoe did the same.
"How many?"
"Just one. Underworld monster, strong. Probably a fury, Alecto possibly."
I didn't know how he got all of this based of smell, but I was more caught up by his words.
Alecto was not a being I had any love for.
I was about to prepare to leap into battle before Remmy's shoulders relaxed.
"She's not after us. She went into the hotel, probably after something. It's probably best to leave before she notices us." He said, and Zoe agreed so without another word, the three of us packed up shop and ran towards the roofs ledge.
I looked over to see that the building next over was a jump away with a ladder that would take us at least halfway down.
With a little hesitation, Zoe took a step back and jumped forward and landed on the side of the building, gripping a bar on the way down.
Like an acrobat, she swung herself onto the platform and onto the ladder, sliding all the way down to the floor.
Remleon did the same and I followed with a little more struggle then the other two.
Once we were down, Remmy directed us in the direction of the MGM and we ran, trying our best to get their as quickly as possible.
"Alecto!" I yelled out to Remmy in front of me. "What exactly was she doing at the Lotus?"
I could hear the shrug in Remmy's voice. "Don't know, but I'm guessing that there will be servants of many different gods in the city. I wouldn't be surprised if we run into one ourselves." He said. "Actually..." the wolf (human now) stopped abruptly, raising his hand.
"What is the meaning of this?" Asked Zoe.
"We can't draw too much attention. Three teenagers running through the city, even the people here would bat an eye."
I nodded in agreement. Though I was a little upset that it would take longer, I decided it was best to keep a low profile.
We followed Remleon, trusting that he remembered what direction we were meant to go in.
As a half monster Lycanthrope, he blended in surprisingly well in such a modern city. The way he walked, it was like he belonged here. It was almost unsettling how easy it seemed fyp be for him.
However, the same could not be said for Zoe. The hunter was seemingly disgusted by everything she looked at, and her face showed it all. And if it wasn't scrunched up with annoyance, then it was filled with spite for the men she walked past.
I noticed some give her looks, but quickly back track once they met her gaze.
"You know we're trying to blend in? Meaning you shouldn't be glaring daggers at the people here."
She scoffed. "How can I not. The people here, the men, they've polluted the place beyond comprehension. You cannot simply expect me to walk by them as if they are innocent."
I raised a brow. "I know your a hunter an all, but do you really spend all your time outside of cities?" I asked.
"Of course. Though, in this age nearly everywhere is filled with buildings, but if you know where to look, you can still find the wild places."
"This age?" I wondered to myself.
"Err Zoe, how old are you exactly?" I asked, a little hesitant. I usually wasn't intimidated by others, but Zoe was different.
She gave me a hard glare. "Older then you can imagine, boy. I've seen things you'll never understand."
I got a little bolder with my next question. "Are you sure? At times, it's almost like your just my age. You don't seem ancient at all."
I watched Remleon take a glance back as Zoe thought for a moment. She looked between angry and confused as she thought of a response.
"Relax hunter, take is as a complement." Said Remmy in a bored tone, possibly saving me. "After all, your much older then even me."
Now I could see clear as day Zoe was furious. She took a step forward with her hand on her hip, probably seconds away from stabbing the wolf. I didn't know how that would work with him as a human.
"Why you-!"
I didn't let the hunter finish, instead I grabbed her hand and pulled her back.
"Look Zoe, there's no point in getting mad, just chill a bit." I said, but my voice got a little softer near the end. I met Zoe's eyes and immediately regretted my decision. For a second, I wondered if Zoe would care if she beat my ass right here, even as a cripple.
After a moment of staring, Zoe's expression changed. My vision went a little blurry as a single strand of my hair came out of the bun and covered my right eye, forcing me to lose focus.
"Zoe?" I asked, confused as to why she still held an unfamiliar look. Had I broken her?
Only a second later, the hunter drew back her arm, completely flustered. She turned away and I couldn't see her face anymore, leaving me confused.
I simply shrugged and fixed my hair, temporarily letting it fall down all the way to my shoulder. It proved harder to walk while using a hair tie then I thought.
Halfway through my struggle, Zoe said something to my left.
"The hair style... it worked." She said slowly.
I turned to her, confused with half of my hair in a bun, the other half over my shoulder, overall I was struggling immensely. "What?" I asked.
"Your hair, it's usually filled with blood and all types of things. Now it's cleaner. I'm saying, the man bun worked."
I didn't reply for a second as I struggled a bit more. Was Zoe trying to have a normal conversation with me? In front of Remmy too? Things must've really been getting to her.
"I guess." I said gruffly. "Though, I wish I had a chance to wash it properly. All this fighting, and we just walk around with blood stuck to us, as if it's normal."
Zoe went quiet for a moment before responding. "You talk as if your not used to it. I'm sure out of all of us, your the most accustomed." She said a little soft. I heard Remmy shift a bit as we walked.
I thought about her words for a second. If she thought I was more experienced then herself and Remleon especially, she must've really had a bad idea of me. Though, I couldn't really argue with her.
"It doesn't matter how long I do this, I don't think I'll ever like it, but I'll never hate it either. No matter what I do, it won't change, so why worry." I said.
Zoe didn't reply, only shaking her head slightly, and just like that the three of us went into a long silence once again.
I let my thoughts roam as I essentially started walking in autopilot, not paying any attention to the people around me. I wondered exactly how my body would hold up for the next day or so, and if it was up to the challenge.
My mind thought about my stone for a second, and couldn't help but feel hurt. I had no doubt that all of this would be easier with it, and maybe I wouldn't have to had these two involved.
I scowled. As soon as this was all over, I would make sure to give Da Vinci a piece of my mind.
All of this however almost made bump right into Remleon as he abruptly stopped yet again. I had gotten so used to seeing the back of his head moving side to side that I didn't even notice him stop. I did notice, however, that in his human form, Remleon was currently an inch shorter then myself, something that made me feel better.
"What is it?" Asked Zoe.
"Nothing. I thought I sensed something, but it whatever." He said as he continued to walk.
I didn't say anything, but his words were enough to put me off. I had known Remmy for a while, and his instincts were never off. Ever.
From what I could tell, after walking for around 10 minutes, we were pretty close to the MGM, so if Remmy was to sense something, there was a high chance of it being the enemy.
Zoe apparently sensed this too as she placed her hand on the hilt of her dagger.
"We may be clear for now, but stay on your to-!" Remleon was cut off, literally, as he was forced to duck down low. I caught a glimpse of his face and saw that his eyes were wider then I had ever seen them before, probably because he was human now. The fact that death was a possibility probably made him jumpier then usually.
And rightfully so, as the act of him ducking had just saved him his life. In the area where Remleon head had just been was a large silver sword, wielded by none other then Hysiminai with a blazing fury in his eyes.
I immediately shot my hand towards my waste, not used to having a sheathed blade, but I quickly whipped it out. Zoe did the same, reaching for her dagger, but before she did so there was a shift in the air.
Not knowing exactly what to do, my body instinctively swung forward towards the area behind Zoe.
I saw her face flash with confusion, but I couldn't focus as I saw a being appear before my very eyes. Coming from out of literally nowhere was a dark being with a large rusty blade that had been aiming for Zoe's exposed back.
I met the beings blade, Makhai's, I realized, and pushed him back with my new silver sword, launching him back a couple of meters towards the end of the alleyway.
I hadn't even noticed we had walked into the alley until now, but I guess it was the perfect place for the gods to get the jump on us.
I turned around towards Remleon to see that Hysiminai had fallen forward with a tumble before facing off with our group.
With him in the front and Makhai behind us, we were effectively trapped in between two gods.
I heard Zoe scowl to my side as Remleon got up, and for the first time ever I saw him looked slightly shaken. He quickly recovered though, shaking off some dust and taking out his deadly tooth like blade.
"Hmm." Was all he said as he raised his blade and faced the hyena god.
"Percy Jackson and...company. It seems that you've finally come out from your hell hole." Said the god with a snarl.
Zoe shifted. "To think you two would come back so soon, truly persistent vermin." She said with spite to match the god.
I heard Makhai blow off steam, literally, behind me. I had no doubt Zoe was giving him death stares.
Hysiminai gave us a sickly smile. "Tough talk for a hunter who's as good as dead."
And with those words, the god sprang forward, faster then I thought he could.
Remleon met the beast with his relatively small dagger and held him there.
I watched Makhai follow suit, rushing forward and knocking Zoe back with a single attack. I grunted and rushed forward, clashing with the god.
His strength wasn't something to laugh at, but it wasn't near the power of Ponos, or even Phonoi, though he seemed to be quicker then the latter.
After exchanging hits for a minute, I hit the god with a little more force, only to be bounced back farther then I had expected. Coming to my rescue, Zoe swooped in, delivering a quick attack to the gods torso, cutting him smoothly.
Makhai immediately launched himself backwards, clutching his chest.
I nodded at the hunter before raising my blade.
She did the same as we stood side by side.
I had to admit, I could tell I was in no position to fight right now. The sword was already a disadvantage, this along with the fact that I felt almost like a stranger in my own body was enough to throw me off.
I let out a low breath, trying to keep my composure. A couple more fights, I thought to myself. A couple more, and i'd be fine.
I took a single step forward, prepared to fight side by side with Zoe when I heard a distinct voice behind me.
"DUCK!" It yelled out urgently, and before I could register what was happening, I felt Zoe grab me roughly and yank me down.
I looked up above to see the limp body of Hysiminai fly over me before hitting his brother dead in his chest, launching both of them towards the end of the alley.
I turned around to see Remleon, breathing heavily while bleeding from multiple cuts. He stared at us both for a second before yelling, "Run!"
This time I didn't hesitate to get up and sprint off after the wolf, Zoe only a step behind. We immediately broke through a steel fence gate, back into the streets of Vegas. Hopefully the mortals around would be a slight deterrent for the two gods. I'm sure they were wary of causing a scene now.
I looked ahead of us to see Remleon bleeding while running from an enemy, something I never thought I'd witness.
We had been fighting for less then 2 minutes, but Hysiminai had done a lot of relative damage.
"I thought you killed that demon!" Yelled Zoe to to the wolf.
I heard him scowled, obviously ticked off. "I thought so too, obviously not. That must've been why his brother was so eager to get that helmet back, to revive him."
I didn't say anything as my mind started to race. Remleon had beaten Makhai before, but that was as something closer to a monster then human, and even then he had had half of his bones shattered.
Now, we were at an even bigger disadvantage, meaning we didn't have much time to get to Noir before the two killed us right here.
After running for seemingly an eternity, we turned the corner of a street and were met with the sight of the MGM grand hotel,a large building growing green. It hadn't gotten dark yet, but the building still stood out, a lot.
I prayed to the gods that Noir would be inside, or else I don't know how long we'd survive on the run.
We ran past the surrounding building, getting deeper and deeper into the heart of Vegas.
I saw a large gold statue, and from the pictures I knew it was the entrance to the hotel.
It was a large golden lion sat in the same position as the Sphinx. Directly on its chest were the two doors leading into the hotel.
Our group slowed down and I felt my heart physically drop.
Standing in front of the doorway, throwing distance away were the two gods of battle and wars, waiting for us patiently.
I saw Makhai let off a bit of steam at the sight of us, and Hysiminai's brow deepen even more.
I fought the urge to drop to my knees and cry out. We had gone as fast as possible, but yet here were the gods, casually waiting for us to arrive. Even if we did defeat the gods right here, we'd be in no position to fight afterwards.
I heard Zoe step up, and soon she walked in front of me and Remleon.
"You two...you two go ahead. I will deal with these two." She said, raising two daggers, one hers and the other Artemis's.
"What?" Me and Remleon asked in unison.
"You heard me. Even in your current state, your both arguable more powerful then me." She said with a scowl.
"You two will go ahead and I'll hold these guys of."
I scowled out loud.
"Don't be stupid. We've fought together up until this point, and we will keep doing so. I've already promised to survive, and if these two get in the way then we'll just have to deal with them right here. Together."
I said, raising my new blade up towards the two gods.
Remleon smirked to my side. "Can't really be argued with. We got this far, might as well stick together." The wolf said, raising his blade as well.
I looked at him for a second with a little bit of appreciation. Here were two immortal beings, a man hater and a monster, risking their lives for me. Two people who used to hate me and that I hated as well, but now we were here fighting side by side.
I smiled despite myself, even as I watched the two gods rush forward. After one last look at my companions, I rushed forward into what could've been my last moments.
Yessirrrr, finished another chapter, and I'm pretty sure I got chapter uploads on lock.
I plan on uploading one a day, then writing the next days, editing it then posting the day after, then repeating. May not make sense, but don't worry, either way yall will get daily chapters (hopefully.)
Besides that though, I haven't asked this much before, but feel free to leave a review about literally anything :).
I've been getting more on average, and they make me really happy tbh, so I feel like this is the perfect time to ask for them.
:)
