Chapter 38-Fighting back
Gideon, Martinez, Kelly, Haley, Shumpert, and Martinez stood behind trees and listened to the gunfight happening on the other side of the camp. "Sounds like they are in a fight," Martinez says.
"Someone fell in their trap. We have to help them," Kelly says. Gideon nods.
"Okay, Martinez, take Kely and Milton and go find her sister and friend. Haley, Shumpert, and I will go help those people," Gideon says. They nod as they pull out their weapons and split up. Daryl sat behind the car as the men on the other side stopped shooting.
"They are trying to draw us out," T-dog says. Daryl nods. "They have us backed up," T-dog looks under the truck.
"If we can get to the bus. Lori and Amy are still inside the bus. We have the smoke grenades and flashbangs," Alicia says. Daryl stands up.
"Hey, anybody by the bus?" Daryl asks.
"Yeah," Reid says.
"Reid, do you know where the others are?" T-dog asks.
"Hiding in the woods and behind the cars," Abraham says.
"Reid, can you get on the bus?" Daryl asks him.
"Yeah," Reid says. Reid moves around the bus with JJ behind him. "Can you cover me?" Reid asks her. JJ nods as Reid slips around the side of the bus and into the bus. He moves under the windows. "Lori, Amy?" Reid says.
"We're here, Reid," Lori says.
"Anybody hurt?" Reid asks.
"No," Carl says.
"Okay, stay in here," Reid says. He moves to one of the windows. "JJ," JJ comes over. "Ask what I am doing in here and tell them everybody is okay," JJ nods as she wakes to the other side of the bus.
"Daryl, what is Reid grabbing?" JJ asks.
"Smoke grenades and flashbangs," Daryl tells her.
"The kids are okay," JJ tells him before she walks away. She walks up to the window. "Smoke grenades and flashbangs," JJ tells him before the gunshots started again. "Hurry, Reid," JJ tells him. Reid nods as he starts to go through the bags. Gideon, Haley, and Shumpert stop beside trees. Gideon pulls out his handgun when they hear two guns cock behind them.
"I saw four people go down, you bastards," Jake says from behind him.
"We're not here to hurt anybody. We are here to help. I'm Jason Gideon," Gideon says. "May I turn around?"
"Slowly," Rick says. Gideon turns around and looks at them.
"We want to help," Gideon says. "There is a good amount of them. You need it," Jake nods as they couch down by him.
"Plan?" Haley asks.
"If we attack now, they will turn on us and overwhelm us in about two minutes," Shumpert says.
"If we distract them. Can your people move in?" Gideon asks Jake, who nods. "Okay, how long did it take you to get over here?" Gideon asks.
"Two minutes," Rick says.
"One of you, go back and tell them the plan. When they switch to us. You move on them," Haley says.
"Flashbangs. We have flashbangs," Jake says.
"Use them. You have four minutes." Gideon tells him. Jake nods as he leaves. Martinez, Kelly, and Milton go through their camp slowly.
"No kids or women," Milton says.
"These people don't want anything they think will make them weak," Martinez says as Kelly leads them into a tent.
"Kelly," A man says.
"Shh," She tells him. She walks up to the girl. "Are you okay?" The girl nods as she looks at Martinez and Milton. "They are our friends," The girl waves at them. "She is deaf," Kelly tells them as she pulls her knife out.
"And she's made it this long. Amazing," Milton says.
"Fanboy later," Martinez says as he cuts the man free.
"Luke," He says to them.
"Martinez, and that is Milton," Martinez says.
"Who are they fighting?" Luke asks.
"We don't know. But we are helping," Martinez says as he hands Luke his handgun. Kelly cuts the girl go. She signs something to them. Martinez looks at Kelly, confused.
"She said her name Connie," Kelly says.
"Does she have a notepad or something?" Milton asks. Kelly nods.
"It's most likely with our stuff," Kelly tells him.
"Okay, Milton, go with them and find their things. Luke and I will go help Gideon," Martinez says. They nod as they split up again. Jake comes up from behind Daryl.
"Daryl," Jake says. Daryl turns and looks at him. "There are some people over there with Rick. They plan on averting their attention. Once they do, we move in with flashbangs," Jake says. "We have two minutes until they start to shoot," Jake tells him as Abraham comes over with a bag.
"Here," He says.
"Did you see the others?" Daryl asks.
"Dean, Rosita, Jim, and Victor are in the woods with Dale. He was hit in the leg. Hershel and Patricia are with them. I haven't seen Morales, Travis, Miranda, Louis, or Elizia," Jake tells him.
"Get Victor, Rosita, Dean, and Jim," Daryl tells Jake, who nods as he leaves. He motions JJ, Alicia, and T-dog over. He waits for the others. When they get there, he explains the plan to them.
"10 seconds," Jake says.
"Ready," Daryl asks as he cocks his handgun.
"Let's show these no-good pussy's who they are messing with," Abrahman says. They hear a gunshot off to the side, and the men in front of them stop shooting for a second and start again. They were shooting in the other direction. Daryl, T-dog, Abraham, and Jake throws the flashbangs into the woods. The moves out of cover and towards the woods as the flashbangs go off. He could hear men scream as they enter the woods and start to shoot the men down. Some of the men turn towards them as they are shot from behind by the other group. Daryl shoots a man in the throat and turns to another. One of the men shoots Rosita in the shoulder. Abraham grabs her and moves back. T-dog shoots him as Alicia shoots the last man in the chest. Daryl looks around at the dead bodies and goes back to the cars. He walks up to the bodies on the ground and sighs. He looks at Travis, Eliza, Louis, Miranda, and Morales. He walks over to move Miranda and Louis off Morales. Morales reaches up and grabs his hand.
"Morales," Daryl says as he moves their bodies out of the way. He helps Morales stand. Morales looks at his family and bends down by them. Alicia goes over to Travis and stabs him in the head. Daryl turns around and looks at the others as Gideon, Rick, Martinez, Luke, Shumpert, and Haley come out of the woods.
"Gideon," JJ says. Reid turns around and looks at the man.
"Spencer, JJ," Gideon says with a smile. Reid smiles as he goes up and hugs the man. Daryl walks away from the bodies and walks onto the bus.
"Charlie," Daryl says. Charlie comes out of her seat, runs up to Daryl, and hugs him. "Are you okay?" Daryl asks her. Lori and Amy stand up.
"Who did we lose?" Lori asks.
"Miranda, Louis, Eliza, and Travis," Daryl tells her. She nods. "Come," Dary says as he leads them outside. Alicia hugs Charlie. Daryl looks at the people by Gideon. "Thank you, you helped us," Daryl says.
"No problem," Martinez says.
"Jake, go get Hershel, Patricia, Dale, Abraham, and Rosita," Daryl tells Jake, who nods. "Let's all take a break as much as I hate to say this. We have to stay here tonight. The cars need to be checked on. So let's rest for a little bit," Daryl tells them. They nod as they all take a break before they have to clean up. Burn the men they killed and bury the ones they loved.
