When I opened the room I see a box on the counter and tilt my head confused.

"Oh I got a little something for ya." Gummy says motioning for me to open the box.

Curiosity got to me so I slowly opened the box seeing a gold shimmering dress with matching heels.

"I thought you might need something to wear tonight." he says rubbing the back of his head.

Smiling at him I give him a hug saying. "Thank you, you didn't have to."

He returns my hug arm staying around my waist as I turn to the dress, it was gorgeous. "Well of course I hafta, you're my lady now after all."

I give him a look knowing full well he had gotten this before dinner. Because he hadn't made any phone calls or been out of my sight since then.

"Mhmm…"

I roll my eyes and shake my head as he laughs and gives me a gentle shove towards the room. "Go on, I know you're gonna shower before."

I quickly shower and when I pull out the dress I see it's black and gold, the bottom half was mostly black with gold designs that looked like a mix of trees or flames almost and the chest area was gold.

I style my hair so it's in waves and leave it down with the feathers placed under the to layer of hair making it look fluffier and some feathers are seen but not enough for people to recognize me. I wanted Gummy to shine tonight not have people overlook him simply because I'm a top hero. He could easily be one but his size intimated people and their own judgment.

I walk out to let him finish get ready, and see him in a black suit with a yellow under shirt and orange tie. He looked great.

"All yours now." I say getting his attention seems he was struggling with a watch.

I set my clothes on the foot of the bed and take over fixing the watch and cuff for him. He smiles in thanks and quickly goes into the bathroom.

I put away my dirty clothes making sure I had everything I would need in my purse and as I'm slipping on the heels when he comes back out his hair combed back.

"Ready?" I ask standing and sliding the strap of my purse over my head.

He nods, smiling and holding out his arm. "As I will ever be, you look beautiful as always."

I roll my eyes but return his smile looping my arm in his. "Thank you, you look pretty good yourself. "

When we walk out of the hotel there's a limo waiting and it surprised me but I follow his lead and get in when the vallet opens the door. Inside sat a powerful looking couple.

"FatGum, you didn't tell us your guest was such a looker. Better keep her close or you may have some competition this evening. " the man says, making me instantly dislike him.

I hide it behind a smile and bow my head. The man spoke Japanese, I had learned Gummy knew very little English so I had been translating most things for him.

In English he leaned to his woman This won't hinder our plans, so stop frowning.

The woman smiles reaching across the car holding out her hand. "It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I'm Brittany, this is my husband Mark. Seems neither of our men seem to have manners this evening. "

I shake her hand and return. "The pleasure is all mine, it's so nice to meet you both. FatGum brought me along last minute as a surprise seems he knew I always wanted to visit America. My name is Sealaina."

I gave an old pen name I used to go by not trusting them one bit. Something about them screamed alarms. Gummy had been told about this name so he would know to call me by it because I had used it a couple times already on undercover missions with him.

I feel his arm tighten around me so I knew he caught on to my caution. He laughs and I lean back as does Brittany.

"My apologies Mark I should have given you a heads up. You know how it is with your woman you just can't say no to them." Gummy laughs arm going around my waist, his hand resting across my stomach.

I lean into him playing the whole in love thing where all we can think about each other. "Well you did promise me! It's our first trip here for the both of us, it's all so amazing here! You sure are lucky to live here."

Brittany's eyes narrow but Mark grins seeming to buy into the act already. She crosses her ankles leaning into Mark, eyes on me.

"So Sealaina, you don't look like you're native to Japan, did you move there?" Brittany questions.

I laugh placing my hand over Gummy's. "You would be correct, my dad's side moved from Germany and my mom moved to Japan when she was young," I glance up at Gummy "we grew up together in the countryside."

She smiles nodding but I could see the distrust in her eyes. It was obvious she was still unsure of my being here, Gummy gave off the innocent vibes so I bet she thought they had him fooled. I was the uncertainty here.

I wasn't sure what was going on at this ball and mission but something seemed wrong to me. "So how long have you two been together?"

She laughs waving at me. "Oh not nearly as long as you two, we've been a team for eight years now."

I tilt my head catching the fact she said team not couple. "So you two work together?"

Mark brings her hand to his lips kissing her knuckle. "As if I could allow anyone else to work with my love."

Brittany smirks looking at me. "So do you two work together?"

Gummy kisses the top of my head letting me answer. "Oh I'm not a hero, I couldn't possibly be. I own a soap and beauty line, I actually just closed a deal this afternoon to expand it to a couple select stores here."

"Oh how wonderful!" She says seeming to relax.

"Her products are top of the line, they've actually skyrocketed the past two months from selling at the open market to being sold all over Japan." Gummy praises grinning.

I knew he had questions but was playing the big oaf for now. The two across from us seem to relax and I could see they thought of us as some idiot country bumpkins. I had seen the look enough growing up to recognize it.

"That is so wonderful, I'm sure you worked hard for this." Brittany says leaning forward.

"A business woman, you'll be a hard contender if your product really took over Japan." Mark says sipping on some champagne.

He offers me a glass and I take it but don't drink from it. Gummy takes it from me gently knowing I didn't like alcohol in the first place.

"She's a tough cookie for sure," at their look of the glass in his hand he laughs, "she doesn't drink, she's just too polite to turn it down."

Brittany smiles and sips from her glass. "Forgive me for prying but why don't you like to drink?"

I just force a smile and say. "Bad experiences with it."

When she begins to open her mouth Gummy interjects. "Oh look at that! We're here, who knew this would be on the water."

The car stops and Gummy helps me out of the car with Mark and Brittany following. We follow them in and Gummy leans down to whisper in my ear.

"What's going on? What did they say in the car to get your attention like that?"

I smile acting like it was something else he was whispering smacking his arm gently. "They said I wouldn't hinder their plans. I swear I've seen him somewhere before too, I just can't place where."

He smiles and gets closer playing it off, I knew to others we just looked like a couple just flirting. "So what if it's just some normal surprise?"

I kiss his cheek. "Then I'm just a paranoid girl with an overactive imagination."

His cheeks go pink and he stands back up arm pulling me closer to him.

Mark sees this and chuckles while Brittany smiles. We walk into the huge building and are swept away by heroes all talking and introducing themselves.

I see the man from the hotel this morning approaching us and thankfully he doesn't seem to recognize me. I stayed on Gummy's arm as he talked to the other heroes, I noticed Brittnay and Mark were talking to some huge man.

"Want to dance?" Gummy questions as couples begin to dance on the dance floor to some slow waltz.

I smile nodding. "I would love to dance with you."

He guides us to the dance floor and gently puts a hand on my waist though with how large his hands were it covered most of my back while his hand engulfs my own. A sense of unease comes over me as we dance, this was nice but with what was to come... would this work?

There were some things that I would have to do, villainous things, things I would not be proud of.. in order to save more lives this would be necessary. Looking up at him, into his gorgeous, trusting yellow eyes; I felt horrible. I had to come clean with him and be honest but now wasn't the time. The whole reason I had agreed to come here was for preparations to make an entire city go under.

"Everything alright?" He questions tilting his head pulling me closer into him.

I hesitate but smile and nod. "I'm fine, so this is some fancy ball right? All these people are the top heroes here right?"

The place was absolutely stunning and the heroes here were as frivolous as ever with loud, gaudy outfits. Chandeliers hung from the ceiling while a man played the piano in the center of the room, to the left was the balcony overlooking the water where the statue of liberty was which surprised me. I didn't think it'd be here in this universe let alone in the future.

"Honestly it's a bit too fancy for me but if this is the type of stuff you like I'll make the effort."

My eyes widen and I quickly shake my head. "Please no...I like simple. I'm not even a fan of cities."

He chuckles relaxing a bit before smiling almost gently at me. "Good cause I hafta admit this isn't me. The fancy clothes, the partying. None of that's for me."

I grin. "I know. Who would have thought two simple country folk being at this super over the top party? So what info is it your after here? Maybe we can divide and conquer."

He blinks before nodding, spinning me before answering after a glance around. "Well there's talk of some illegal drugs that amplify abilities being smuggled to Japan by Americans."

The song ends and he goes to the bar where there are a bunch of men sipping whisky and chatting so I walk over to the refreshment table where there are a bunch of ladies standing and gossiping.

Unlike Gummy I could hear them just fine, I just made my body think it needed to have better hearing. Using my quirk would drain me quickly due to still not sleeping but the coffee from earlier would allow me to use it for now.

"Did you see that huge man? He walked in with Mark! Can you believe it? You think he's some hotshot from Japan?"

"What about that woman that was on his arm? Is she a hero over there? She looks familiar."

"Well why don't we ask? She is right there after all."

I smile in thanks to a waiter as I take a water bottle from him, not a normal one but some fancy glass one that was probably imported as I listened.

"Excuse me, miss?" I hear to my left much closer.

Glancing over I see this thin older refined woman that radiated elegance. She was looking straight at me so I turned and gave a smile.

"Yes?"

She stops in front of me and I see the other three women slowly walk over behind the woman who had addressed me. "May I ask who you are to come with such a powerful Hero?"

I tilt my head chuckling and twisting the cap of my water open. "Oh I'm just a guest with the hero FatGum, Sarah. It's a pleasure to meet you Ms…"

She returns my smile holding out her hand. "Elizabeth, so FatGum is one of the top heroes in Japan is he not?"

I shake her hand, noticing one of the ladies on her right eyeing me. "Oh, no. He's much too humble to try for a top spot. He likes to fight for the small guy, we are close friends with the top heroes though. I actually worked for Hawks up until recently, my company just took off so I really didn't have the time to spare."

I rest my hand on my cheek as if it were a shame playing up the act a little. I could tell that caught their attention as they all seemed to perk up some at that.

A brunette leans forward. "So you know Hawks? Is he as handsome as they claim?"

Oh I was so happy he wasn't here or he'd be perking up, thankfully I was too far for him to listen with his feather too. "Even more so. Though he's such a flighty man, I have to admit it is to be expected given he shares genes with a bird after all…" I lean forward whispering "There's even rumors about him being not so hero ish."

That seemed to catch the leader's attention as her eyebrows furrow slightly. "So what is it you do? Does FatGum not make enough for you to live at home comfortably?"

I laugh, waving it off shaking my head. "Oh no! I don't live with him, I like my independence and would be so bored just lavishing at home. Though if he could convince me to, he would. He spoils me all the time with small trinkets and gifts."

Which was all true, he would find some book or shiny rock and bring it to me almost daily along with some snack or meal or drink he thought I would like. He had also taken to texting me daily since he moved out.

"I work Crow beauty and supplies. I over see practically everything, now that a deal went through here I will be over seeing the shipping of supplies."

She sips her wine. "So is it true that the so-called hero CrowSong runs that company? What is she like?"

I shrug glancing over at Gummy to make sure he was still ok and see him laughing with the other guys. "I wouldn't call her a hero. She frankly doesn't think of herself as one either, I mean just last week she did have a fight with Endeavor that demolished three towers."

The woman seems to think before walking towards the balcony. "Walk with me."

The other women all look at each other almost in worry before I follow. I make eye contact with Gummy, if it came to a fight I'd be pretty useless right now. Just the thought made me angry but I was trying to advance my quirk and that meant pushing myself past my limits.
