Lisa's Log
Several days prior...
Day One (Post Nap)
I woke up from my nap after approximately an hour. The capsule appears to work nicely as a sleeping aid, as I slept for the entirety of the time comfortably, and I cannot really remember if I had any dreams during that time. However, with such a short nap, I cannot say conclusively if the medication was able to suppress dreams. Further testing is required, but initial findings are promising. On a side note regarding side effects, the vision of Blarney the Dinosaur I had seen the previous night seems to have vanished. Will continue testing tomorrow, as I wish to be certain the medication is out of my system entirely before taking a normal dose.
Day Two
Subject: Dr Lisa Loud
Time of Test: 10 PM
Test Amount: Two capsules
Started afresh at a normal (for most homo sapiens) bed time, and with no trace of the sleep inducing medicines in my system prior to the test. Took two capsules before preparing for bed. Shortly after taking, I once again bore witness to the sight of Blarney in my room, and he wasn't alone. He was joined by a small, dancing banana. Very curious to be certain. Further evidence of hallucinations being a side effect. Was able to sleep the entire night without interruption, and devoid of dreams. Once more, upon awakening, there was no sign of the childhood icon and the ambulatory musa. No further ill effects to note.
Day Three
Subject: Dr Lisa Loud
Time of Test: 11 PM
Test Amount: Two capsules
Results remain consistent with previous tests. Visual hallucinations are witnessed shortly after taking the capsules. However, it should be noted that they have been accompanied by auditory illusions, as Blarney has attempted conversation with me whilst I prepared for slumber...a surprisingly insightful conversation too. Only other note to mention is that, before I shut my eyes, I could swear I saw Lincoln peeking into my room from the door. Upon investigation, there was no sign he was even there. All figments of my imagination were gone when I awoke in the morning. Still no dreams experienced while utilizing the experimental sleeping aid, and there don't appear to be any further side effects.
Day Four
Subject: Dr Lisa Loud
Time of Test: 10 pm
Test Amount: Two capsules
The visuals are starting to become move vivid, and more outlandish. Instead of Blarney, I was introduced to the cartoon sponge and starfish Lola and Lana are fond of. It was not an enjoyable meeting in the slightest. In addition, I noticed my elder brother was watching me again as I prepared to sleep...this time standing in my doorway. Any attempts to address him resulted in failure. He simply remained until he turned and silently left. Come the morning, no dreams were had. However, I could have sworn I heard the voice of the accursed sponge coming from Lana's mouth for a short time. Hallucinations seem to be escalating and persisting. Perhaps a reduction of the dosage is called for.
Day Five
Subject: Dr Lisa Loud
Time of Test: 10 pm
Test Amount: One capsule
A single capsule has indeed made the visuals less obnoxious and easier to deal with. Once more, my elder brother was sighted in my room, simply staring at me and leaving without so much as a word. I am beginning to suspect these sightings may be additional figments. The sleep aid only lasted for approximately half the night before it ceased to suppress my dreams. It appears two capsules are required for a full night's dreamless sleep. Perhaps changing it to an every other evening instead of every evening will yield a more positive result.
Day Six
Subject: Dr Lisa Loud
No capsules taken
While no medication was taken on this night, I felt it was necessary to record what happened. No hallucinations were experienced. However I did see Lincoln again, once more in my doorway. However, he looked more...upset. He still refused to converse with me before he departed. Naturally, my sleep was filled with dreams.
Day Seven
Subject: Dr Lisa Loud.
Time of Test: 10 pm
Test Amount: Two capsules
Spacing out the dosages seems to have done the trick. Hallucinations still appear not long after taking the pills, but they are more benign and are purely visual. Easy to ignore, if one keeps one's eyes closed. However, during that time, I heard my name called...by Lincoln's voice. Opening my eyes, I spotted my only brother standing at the foot of my bed, glaring at me. When I blinked, he was gone. Was it a hallucination? A dream? No, it couldn't be a dream. The medication suppresses dreams. Then...has my brother really been visiting my room lately? Once again, the sleep aid continues to keep me from dreaming. I am surprised to say there are still no further side effects. Surprised, but pleased.
On the evening of the eighth day of her tests, Lisa had gotten herself ready for bed, as she usually would. However, one thing changed from her usual routine. Before she settled in, she checked in on her brother in Lucy and Lynn's room. He was fast asleep. Satisfied, Lisa returned to her own room. She wasn't taking the sleeping pills tonight, since she had taken it the previous night. "Good night, Lily," She said quietly to her infant roommate (who was already snoozing peacefully in her crib) before she closed her eyes.
"Hey! Genius! Wake up!" A harsh, male voice snapped just as sleep was starting to come to the super intelligent little girl. She sat up with a start, then frowned as she reached for her glasses.
"Keep your voice down, or you'll wake the young-" She started to say before she put on her glasses and gasped at what she saw. Standing at the end of her bed, a malicious look on his face, was Lincoln. The young mastermind gasped in shock. "-Lincoln?"
"Darn right it's me," The white haired boy said snidely.
"What are you doing here, elder brother? I thought you were asleep in Lynn and Lucy's chamber…"
"You always did think you knew more than you actually do," He spat as he walked around to the side of her bed
"...to what do I owe the pleasure of your nocturnal visit?" Lisa asked cautiously, frowning at the insult she had been inflicted with.
"I've been doing some thinking, Brainiac...yeah, I know. Bet you're surprised," He said in a very nasty way, very unlike her brother.
"What? Lincoln, I don't-" She started to say, her voice flat, even though she was rather hurt on the inside by that remark.
"-think much of my intelligence. I know. But let me tell you something: I'm a hell of a lot smarter than you think I am!" He said angrily, slapping his hand on her bed. Lisa quickly scooted away from him, alarmed by this unusually hostile behavior. "You think just because you have a PHD and a Nobel prize, you know it all. The rest of us...we're just knuckle dragging apes who can't count to ten without taking our shoes off!"
"Lincoln, I never-"
"But you know what!? That brain of yours is the cause of most of the trouble that happens in this house!" He shouted as he leaned closer to Lisa, causing her to fall off of her bed and back herself into a corner to get away from him. Undeterred, he simply climbed over her bed to get closer to her. "The numerous times you've used us as lab rats! You were key in creating the sister fight protocol! The snow days incident! Explosions at any given moment! And that's not counting all the things you've done to me personally, like ruining my tutoring session with Hugh!"
"N-Now, Lincoln…" Lisa said with a scared stammer in her voice. "W-We were all responsible for that…"
"Or how you caused trouble in the grocery store by trying to freeze yourself!" Her older brother ignored her defense as he stood in front of her. She was starting to shake with fear. "And need I even mention the bad luck fiasco!?"
"No. No, that is quite unnecessary…"
"You see!? That brain of your is nothing but trouble!" He said cruelly, roughly poking her forehead as he said this. "So the way I see it, I'd be doing the family, and the world, a favor...by putting you out of our misery!" He cracked his knuckles briefly before holding his hands up in a manner suggesting he was going to strangle her.
"Lincoln! No! You can't!" The four year old genius cried out, tears filling her eyes as she started to sweat in terror.
"I can and will!" His hands slowly approached her neck.
"You-You won't get away with this!" She warned him as she started to cry.
"Who's going to care!? Goodbye, Lisa!" His hands were mere millimeters from her throat now.
"NO!" Lisa screamed while sobbing, closing her eyes and thrusting her arms out to push her brother away. However, all she touched was air. She slowly opened her eyes and found there was no one there. It was like he was never even there in the first place. Lisa was still shaking like a leaf as her eyes surveyed the room. All was as it should be, except for her bed being rather messy. She sniveled for a moment in the corner before she felt to her knees and threw up right on the rug. Just then, she heard frantic running down the hall. Not wishing anyone to see her in this state, she quickly wiped the sick from her chin with the sleeve of her pjs and hastily climbed back into bed, right as Lincoln flung the door open.
"Lisa!? Is everything ok!? I heard you scream!" He asked in concern, his older brother instincts having kicked in. Seeing him standing there made Lisa flinch and press her back against the headboard of her bed. It took her a moment to realize the look in his face was that of worry for her, not of malice, which helped her relax, but it only made the one son all the more worried. Just outside the room, Lori, Leni, Luna, and Luan were all huddled outside of the young scientist and infant child's room, listening intently, while the twins and Lucy listened from the door to their rooms. Lynn, who had been sleeping down on the couch, hadn't heard Lisa's cry.
"There...is nothing to be concerned about, Lincoln," She lied in her usual monotone. "I..simply experienced a nocturnal terror whilst experiencing slumber, alias a nightmare." Her only brother sighed with relief, while Lisa was relieved he couldn't see the mess on the floor from there. "I'll be fine, elder brother."
"...alright, Lisa. If you say so…" Her brother replied, though he wasn't entirely convinced. Still, he put on his neutral face as he stepped into the room to tuck her into bed. "Good night."
"Good night, Lincoln," The young genius said, trying not to shudder as he got closer to her. Once she was tucked in, Lincoln moved over to check on Lily. Miraculously, she hadn't woken up when the little scientist screamed. The one son sighed before giving her a little smile and leaving the room, leaving the door ajar and telling the congregated older siblings that the two of them were fine. As soon as the mini mastermind was left alone, she immediately started to think.
'I strongly suspect that wasn't a dream…' She thought to herself. 'If it was, I would have woken up in bed...unless I've developed sleepwalking...perhaps I should check the cameras in the morning, once I've cleaned up that mess.' She considered before shaking her head. 'No, I don't think that's it. A hallucination? Even though I haven't taken any dream suppressants? It's possible, I suppose...I mean, I did see Lincoln even that one evening when I skipped a dose.' She scratched her head as she pondered this conundrum. 'But something is telling me this is more than just a mental illusion…'
She glanced toward the door again and nearly screamed. There was Lincoln, peeking in from the barely open door with that cold, cruel look on his face. Lisa sprang from her bed and quickly ran to the door to close and lock it. "Figment or not...let's not take any chances…" She muttered to herself before she returned to her bed, even though she didn't think she'd be getting much sleep.
