Match Card
1. Jack Swagger (c) vs Christian in a singles match for the ECW Championship.
2. Chris Jericho vs Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat in a singles match.
3. CM Punk vs Kane in a singles match.
4. Matt Hardy vs Jeff Hardy in an I Quit match.
5. Santina Marella (c) vs The Great Khali in a Singles match for the title of "Miss WrestleMania"
6. The Jackal (c) vs Randy Orton vs Triple H vs Batista in a fatal 4-Way match for the WWE Championship.
WWE Backlash was live at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island. The show commenced with Jack Swagger defending the ECW Championship against Christian. Swagger controlled the match with takedowns, suplexes and slams. After both men removed the padding on a turnbuckle, Christian avoided Swagger, causing Swagger to collide with the exposed turnbuckle. Christian then executed a Killswitch to win the ECW Championship.
The following contest involved Chris Jericho and Ricky Steamboat — the latter competing in his first singles match since 1994. As Steamboat attempted a diving crossbody, Jericho countered with a Codebreaker and forced Steamboat to submit to the Walls of Jericho for the win. Following the match, Steamboat was given a standing ovation from the crowd in attendance.
CM Punk wrestled Kane next, with Punk mainly attacking Kane's arm with kicks and arm bars to prevent him from performing the chokeslam. After Punk tried to incapacitate his opponent, Kane managed to execute a leg-trap chokeslam for the win.
Next was the I Quit match pitting Matt Hardy against Jeff Hardy. The two attacked each other with a number of heavy shots and submission holds during the match. After Jeff placed Matt on a table, he tied him to the table and set up a ladder in the corner of the ring. When the referee asked Matt if he wanted to quit, he took the opportunity to talk down Jeff, bringing up the case of what his father and late mother would think of this before quitting, meaning Jeff won the match. After the match, Jeff vaulted over the ladder and performed a leg drop through the table on Matt.
Santina Marella (really Santino Marella in drag posing as his fictitious twin sister) came down to the ring after the match, and proclaimed her prowess before The Great Khali entered in the hopes of kissing Marella, only to have Marella refuse, claiming to love another man, SmackDown commentator, Jim Ross, who sat at ringside with Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole. Beth Phoenix came to the ring and challenged Marella for her title of Miss WrestleMania. Before the match started, Khali attacked Phoenix with a brain chop, leading to Marella pinning Phoenix to retain her title.
The next match was a Fatal 4-Way for the WWE Championship. Jackal defended his title against Randy Orton, Batista, and Triple H. Jackal fought relentlessly to keep his title, but was given a Pedigree, Batista Bomb, then RKO by the former Evolution members. Near the end of the match, Jackal saved his title when he broke a pin between Orton and Triple H, causing Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBease to attack and DiBease hit Dream Street, followed by Orton hitting an RKO on Jackal to win the WWE Championship.
Next up was the triple Threat Last Man Standing match for the World Heavyweight Championship.
In the arena, Edge's theme hit first and out comes the Rated R-Superstar who desired tow in the World Heavyweight Championship once again. The rules of this match were simple. Whoever couldn't reach the ten count first is eliminated from the match, leaving the other two men to battle it out until one cannot get up for the ten count and the winner is the World Heavyweight Champion. Edge slides into the ring and his theme dies down.
John Cena's theme hits next and out comes Cena to a loud pop from the fans. Cena runs down the ramp and slides into the ring, throwing his hat off as Edge stared him down. Cena takes his shirt off and tossed it into the crowd before looking at Edge who kept his stare on Cena and Cena stared right back.
OOOOOWHOOOOOO!
The Devil's Wolf hit to cheers from the fans as the lights dimmed to the sinister blood red and out comes the Bladewolf with Trish Stratus at his side and the World Heavyweight Championship around his waist. They pause on the stage and Trish circles her husband, running her hand across his chest, back, and shoulders before seductively leaning against him then arched her back in a seductive manner before she begins sauntering forward with a sway in her hips, the Bladewolf walking beside her.
They reach the ring and Bladewolf gets onto the apron, holding the ropes open for Trish who seductively gets in, getting wolf whistles from the fans. Bladewolf's theme dies down as Bladewolf takes his coat off and dumps it outside the ring then hands his titlke to the referee as Trish gets out the ring and stands at ringside.
The referee raises the title, show it to the to the two men, then hands it to someone at ringside before calling for the bell.
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
Right away Edge slides out the ring as Bladewolf charges and boots Cena in the side of the head. Bladewolf whips his head to look at Edge who stared back. Bladewolf knees Cena in the side of the head, then brings his forearm down on Cena's back before grabbing him from behind and hits a German Suplex across the ring. Edge slides into the ring and tries taking Bladewolf down but is met with a big boot. Bladeowlf kicks Cena out the ring then grabs Edge and hits a suplex across the ring before walking over and brings his knee down into Edge's ribs.
Bladewolf then begins hammering away at Edge's forehead a few times before he gets to his feet and backs off a little before he rebounds off the ropes and hits a leg drop across Edge's throat. Cena slides back into the ring and tries a takedown on Bladewolf who sidesteps it, grabs Cena from behind and hits another German Suplex. Bladewolf got to his feet like it was nothing. Bladewolf turned around...INTO A CHAIR SHOT TO THE SKULL BY EDGE! Edge had gottena chair while Bladewolf was distracted by Cena.
Edge drops the chair, grabs Bladewolf before lifting him up...AND HITS THE IMPALER DDT ON THE CHAIR! Bladewolf rolls out the ring and to the floor. The referee starts to count as Edge attacks Cena. ONE!...TWO!...Edge pushes Cena to the corner, dodges a bulldog attempt by Cena and then jumps outside the ring. THREE!...Cena chases down Edge who attempts a Spear and Cena dodges that. FOUR!...Bladewolf gets to his feet and leans against the barricade as Trish walked over to him. Bladewolf just leaned against the barricade, watching. He will let Edge and Cena battle each other out until the opportunity for him to strike comes.
Edge then dodges an Attitude Adjustment attempt as well. Edge with a headlock on Cena and shoulder block after hitting the ropes. Edge with right hands to Cena in the corner. Cena with a kick to Edge and a big suplex. Edge with an inverted DDT on Cena. Edge with clotheslines to Cena each time he gets to his feet. Edge mounts Cena and gets in some big rights.
The referee starts the count on Cena. The referee gets to 6 when Cena returns to his feet. Edge immediately takes Cena down after hitting the ropes. The referee starts the count on Cena. The referee gets to 5 when Cena is back up. Edge drives Cena to the mat face first and then applies a sleeper. Cena holds onto the top ropes, breaks free and Edge continues to wrench back on the sleeper.
Cena grabs the legs of Edge, holds on and backs Edge up into the corner to break it up. Edge takes the bump and jumps again on Cena's back applying the sleeper.
Edge breaks the sleeper and the referee starts the count.
The referee gets to 7 and Cena reaches his feet. Cena with two big shoulder blocks on Edge. Cena plants Edge with his spinning powerbomb. Cena raises his arm, does the 'You can't see me!', rebounds off the ropes...AND HITS THE FIVE-KNUCk-! EDGE COUNTERED IT WITH A KICK TO THE FACE! Edge tackles Cena down, grabs his legs...AND LOCKS IN THE SHARPSHOOTER!
Cena screams out in pain as Edge pulls himself to the corner and uses the ropes for leverage which the announcers point out is legal in this mat. Edge breaks the submission and backs off as the referee starts the count. Bladewolf slides in behind Edge...AND WHACKS HIM IN THE BACK WITH A STEEL CHAIR IN HAND! Bladewolf unloads on Edge with the steel chair before he tosses it aside. Bladewolf grabs Edge and lifts him up before driving him into the corner, then hits a belly-to-belly suplex. Bladeowlf grabs Edge from behind and hits another German Suplex, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another.
The referee got to 5 when Cena got his feet on the ring apron but Bladewolf runs and...BASEBALL SLIDE KICKS CENA INTO THE ANNOUNCE TABLE! Bladewolf rolls out the ring and walks over to Cena, landing a sharp right to the jaw, then bangs Cena's head off the table before picking him up by the throat...AND CHOKESLAMS HIM THROUGH THE TABLE!
Edge had rolled out the ring and was on his knees as the referee starts to count for Cena. ONE!...TWO!...THREE!...Bladewolf walks away over to Edge...FOUR!...FIVE!...Bladewolf lands a sharp right on Edge then whips him into the barricade. SIX!...Bladewolf runs to hit Edge but Edge sidesteps and Bladewolf hits the barricade, then turns around...INTO A SPEAR! SEVEN!...EiGHT!...Cena gets to his feet! Cena got to his feet!
Edge saw this and walks over to Cena. Edge drops Cena's head off the steel ring steps, backs up, charges, attempts a Spear, but Cena moves...AND EDGE GOES RIGHT INTO THE STEEL STEPS! The referee starts the count on Edge! ONE!...TWO!...THREE!...FOUR!...FIVE!...SIX...Edge got to his feet! Edge grabs Cena and sends him into the steel steps on the opposite side of the ring. The referee starts the count. The referee gets to 7 when Edge walks up getting in a few shots. Cena then sends Edge into the steel steps once more. Another referee referee gets to 5 when Edge gets to his feet and Cena tosses him back in. Cena grabs the steel steps and tosses them inside the ring befoe he is grabbed from behind by the Bladewolf who sends Cena over the barricade.
Bladewolf slides into the ring and picks up the steel steps...AND WHACKS EDGE IN THE HEAD WITH THEM! Bladewolf tosses the steps down, grabs Edge by the throat before lifting him up...AND HITS THE CHOKESLAM ON THE STEPS! The referee starts a count! ONE!...TWO!...THREE!...FOUR!...FIVE!...SIX!...SEVEN!...EIGHT!...Ni-! EDE MAKES IT TO HIS FEET!
Bladewolf flips his hair back before he sees Trish with the baseball bat so he takes it and Edge turns around...BUT GETS HIT IN THE STOMACH WITH THE BAT! Bladewolf cracks the bat over Edge's back then tosses it aside before lifting him onto his shoulders, but Edge slides off and shoves Bladewolf into the corner as Cena slides into the ring. Bladewolf turns and boots Cena in the head then gets clotheslined by Edge. Bladewolf rolls out the ring and gets to a knee as Trish checks on him.
Edge catches Cena with a big boot when he enters the ring. Edge grabs the steel steps and drives them into Cena in the corner. Edge backs up, charges and dropkicks the steel steps into the body of Cena as well. Both men are down as the referee starts the count. Both return to their feet and Cena sends Edge over the top rope to the outside. Another referee count. Edge is up at 6. Cena picks up the steel steps in the ring and tosses them over the top rope right into the head of Edge!
The referee starts the count on Edge. Edge is up at 7 when Cena leaves the ring and tosses Edge back inside. We get a right hand exchange between Cena and Edge with the fans booing Cena and cheering Edge. Both men hit each other with a big right sending them both to the mat.
The referee starts the count. Both are up at the count of 8. Edge with a big back suplex on Cena after a series of counters. Cena with a drop toe hold on Edge into an STF. Edge starts tapping out, but it doesn't matter. The referee starts the count on Edge as Cena breaks the hold and gets to his feet.
Edge gets to his feet at 8. Edge counters an Attitude Adjustment and connects with a Spear on Cena. Cena gets to his feet as Edge is getting up on the top turnbuckle. Cena climbs up, puts Edge on his shoulders...AND HITS THE ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT FROM THE TOP TURNBUCKLE!
The referee starts the count with both men down. Cena gets to his knees and eventually to his feet. Edge fights to his feet at 9 and then falls right back down. Cena then goes up top, jumps...BUT EDGE HITS HIM WITH A SPEAR IN MIDAIR!
Bladewolf slides into the ring, grabs Edge and hits a German Suplex, then grabs Cena and hits him with a German Suplex. Trish tosses a chair to him and he picks it up...AND WHACKS IT OFF EDGE'S HEAD! He then looks at Cena...AND WHACKS HIM OVER THE HEAD WITH THE CHAIR! Bladewolf goes back and fourth hitting Edge and Cena with the chair before he tosses it aside. He grabs Cena and tosses him out of the ring, grabs Edge and gets him into the corner, wraps his arm around the top rope and pulls on it hard before he lands a hard right to the shoulder joint.
Edge clutches his shoulder until he gets an uppercut by Bladewolf who leaves the ring and grabs Cena who hits a hard right into Bladewolf's stomach, but Bladewolf fights back with a knee to the side of Cena's head, both of them heading up the ramp as they fought. Bladewolf sends Cena into part of the stage and flips his hair back before he grabs Cena who lifts him up for the Attitude Adjustment...BUT BIG SHOW APPEARS AND PULLS BLADEWOLF OFF CENA! Cena turns around...INTO A GOOZLE! Big Show lifts Cena up...AND CHOKESLAMS HIM THROUGH A SEARCHLIGHT!
The referee starts to count as Big Show stares coldly. ONE!...TWO!...THREE!...FOUR!...FIVE!...SIX!...SEVEN!...EIGHT!...NINE!...TEN! JOHN CENA IS ELIMONATED FROM THE MATCH!
Big Show leaves as EMTs go to help Cena out of there whole Edge runs up and attacks Bladewolf from behind and he slugs it out with the World Heavyweight Champion who knees Edge in the stomach then sends him into the stage. Edge comes back and clotheslines Bladewolf on the stage. Edge grabs Bladeowlf and loosk to toss him off the stage but Bladewolf elbows Edge in the stomach, then headbutts him, making Edge back up before he shakes his head and runs...AND HITS THE SPEA-! BLADEWOLF SIDESTEPS EDGE! EDGE GOES FLYING OFF THE STAGES AND CRASHES INTO THE EQUIPMENT BELOW!
Bladeowlf gets to a knee and shakes his head before he looks at the stage and starts scaling it and moves so he had Edge in his line of fire then he leaps off...AND HITS A SHOOTING STAR PRESS OFF THE STAGE AND CRASHES INTO EDGE! BOTH MEN WERE DOWN NOW!
'HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT!' The crowd chanted as Trish looked on in worry for her husband.
The referee started counting. ONE!...TWO!...THREE!...FOUR!...FIVE!..Bladewolf slowly starts to move..SIX!...SEVEN!...EIGHT!..Bladewolf gripped the stage but fell down..NINE!...BLADEWOLF GOT TO HIS FEET FIRST!..TEN! BLADEWOLF WINS! BLADEWOLF RETAINS THE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP!
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
The Devil's Wolf plays as Bladewolf leans against the stage. "here is your winner and STILL the World Heavyweight Champion...THE BLADEWOLF!" Trish helps Bladewolf onto the ramp and he takes his title and raises it before pulling Trish into a kiss despite the mask being in the way, she did kiss back.
They head backstage as Edge is tended to and Backlash goes off the air...
And that's it for this chapter everyone. I hope you enjoyed that great moment with the Shooting Star press off the stage. He could do it off the Hell in a Cell, so why not make him do it off the stage?
