Surf Club - Angelo's

"Emily wants to take me into Yabbie Creek later, so please can you cover my shift just this once?" Kyle asks.

"What's in it for me?" Lucas asks. "Because if I agree to cover your shift, that means I'll be working a double."

"I work doubles all the time, you'll be fine." Kyle says.

"You're the manager meaning it's your job to work doubles." Lucas frowns. "And I'm older than you, so you should be listening to me."

"That's not ever going to happen. And how much older?" Kyle asks. "If it's more than ten minutes then I'll find someone else to cover for me."

"I don't know but that doesn't mean that I have to cover your shift."

"No it doesn't." Kyle says, trying to think of something else. "I'm the manager here, so I boss all of you around, so I'm telling you to cover my shift tonight."

"You can't do that." Lucas angrily folds his arms. "Tell Emily you can't meet up tonight because you've got a shift."

"No, I'm not letting her down after she's put so much effort in." Kyle frowns.

"Is she not putting too much effort in to make up for what she did? Because she's been a bit over the top since you two started dating again."

"She has not been over the top."

"She came over at three in the morning the other night with your favourite chocolate cake. That's being over the top."

"It was sweet of her to do it, she knew I hadn't had it for a while."

"It's weird."

"Are you two done now?" Brax asks from the bar where he was sat doing the books, getting bored of them arguing over it as it was putting him off. "Lucas, you're not covering Kyle's shift tonight because he's not even rostered on."

"Am I not?" Kyle says as he grabs the rota from the side of the bar. "But I wanted tomorrow night off, not tonight." Kyle says as he looks at it.

"Well now you've got tonight off, suck it up." Brax says, glancing behind to see how busy it was. "It's fairly quiet here so both of you take a break." He says, both of them quickly walking around the bar and out the door.

"Where's the fire?" Ricky jokes as she walks up to the bar.

"I thought they could take their arguments somewhere else so I could finish these." Brax says, gesturing to the books in front of him.

"Kyle and Lucas were arguing?" Ricky scoffs.

"Better believe it." Brax says. "Turns out it was over nothing because Kyle didn't see the new rota he helped me make."

"He's just being happy." Ricky says.

"It's not being happy, it's being forgetful."

"Because all he's been thinking about is Emily. They're moving faster than they said but it's good for them." Ricky says, liking how improved Kyle's mood had been.

"Great, next time you can answer the door to Emily in the middle of the night and wake Kyle up because I won't be." Brax says. "I never realised how much of a deep sleeper he was but as soon as I mention Emily's name, he's straight to the door to see her."

"It's young love. Can't you just be happy for him already." Ricky moans.

"How am I not being happy for him?" Brax asks.

"You're still angry with Emily and she's trying to make things right. Just give her one more chance to prove herself." Ricky says. "We agreed you were one to give people second chances. You gave Kyle one and he changed his whole attitude around, and you also gave Lucas one if you think about it. You were willing to send him away with Tyler, and he left his triplet to stay here for you guys."

"Okay, I get your point!" Brax moans. "Now can I finish the books?"

"No." Ricky says. "Not until you promise me to give Emily a chance. Just imagine how many arguments you are preventing by doing so."

"How am I preventing arguments?"

"Because you'll be making me very happy and also Kyle. If he found out you were still angry with her, imagine how upset you'll make him. I know you don't want to upset him after everything we did to cheer him up. Just look how he cheered up when you asked me to be your best man at our fake wedding." Ricky says.

"Do not tell him it was fake." Brax says. "Actually, don't tell anyone."

"They're not going to suspect a thing when I've got my engagement ring on." She grins, not having expected him to propose when they were away.

Flashback

Hotel in the City

"So we're going to get married and have Kyle as our witness, even though we won't be legally married?" Brax asks, not wanting to be too loud as Kyle was in the room next door.

"I know it sounds crazy but he already thinks we're here to get married because of you." Ricky says. "Just imagine how angry your brothers are going to be when they find out we 'eloped' but had Kyle there as the witness."

"So we'd tell them it's fake, and all of us lie to Kyle?" Brax says. "Then that will make Kyle angry and we're here to lift his mood, not whatever this is. When you said we'd get married to help cheer Kyle up, I thought you were on about with everyone else there, not just Kyle. This is going to cause more arguments whether we fake it or not."

"Okay, so that won't work." Ricky says as she thinks to herself. "How about we make everyone think we got married but later down the line when we're ready to be officially married, we tell everyone?"

"That could work." Brax says. "Kyle has to get out of this moody headspace soon, so it's not like we would have to lie to them for long."

"So you agree that we should do this? It would be good practise for the real thing, basically the trial run." Ricky says.

"Exactly, a totally normal thing to do." Brax says.

"This is so crazy." Ricky mutters. "I love it!" She grins.

"I'll keep Kyle occupied, so you can make some calls." Brax says, getting a nod in reply as he walks out to his brothers room, knocking on the door.

"Hey." Kyle says as he opens the door up, letting his brother in.

"We were thinking about staying a few days longer, how would you feel about that?" Brax says.

"It's not like I've got anything better to do." Kyle says as his phone goes off. "It's Lucas, won't be a sec." He says, moving over to the window to sit at the chair.

Brax went on his phone as he waited for his brother to finish talking to his triplet. He hoped this crazy plan of Ricky's worked, not even believing he was going along with it. It was a crazy way to take Kyle's mind off not being with Emily. It wasn't that much longer until Kyle came off the phone to Lucas, just as Ricky joined them, giving Brax a nod.

"So you know we said we were eloping and wanted you to be the witness?" Ricky starts.

"Oh, I thought you were joking about that just to get me to come on this trip." Kyle says.

"No, we didn't want some stranger watching us get married, we want it to be you." Ricky smiles. "The registrar has a free space tomorrow, so it's been booked."

"Will you be our witness and my best man?" Brax asks.

"Best man?" Kyle frowns.

"Yeah, just without the speech or fancy suits." Brax says.

"Yeah, I'll do it." Kyle smiles. "So what would I do?"

"Make sure Brax doesn't give a soppy speech." Ricky says.

"Like that would happen." Kyle jokes, both of them laughing at his face.

Park in the City

After Kyle gave them the night to themselves to prepare for the next day, Ricky found a spot in the park near their hotel that overlooked the city, so took Brax there. She wished she'd brought her camera as it was a clear night, but in the end she didn't mind. She was there with Brax by her side and no worries swirling her mind.

"It's so beautiful at night." Ricky mutters, glancing up at him. "Do you recon Kyle was really okay with us not being there."

"Rick, he's not a kid. And it was his idea for us to enjoy our last night before, whatever we're calling tomorrow." Brax says.

"I wish it was our real wedding, but I'm happy to wait longer. Time doesn't matter when we've still got each other." She smiles.

"You're perfect." Brax gazes into her eyes, pulling something from his pocket as she kisses him.

"I love you so much." She says, frowning as he gets down onto one knee.

"I love you too, Rick. I know tomorrow isn't going to be real, but one day it will be." Brax says, holding up a small ring box, opening it to a diamond ring. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you, so will you marry me? For real." He jokingly adds.

"You know I will!" She grins, squealing with excitement as he puts the ring on before she hugs him.
