AN - I'm changing something else from the VD show storyline again. When Elena stabbed Rebekah with the White Oak Dagger, she took her necklace back from Rebekah. Thank you to everyone who is reviewing! I really appreciate your support and encouragement about my writing. Enjoy!

Chapter 38

When Rebekah got home from her date she had immediately pulled Caroline upstairs with her to her room so she could gush about how well it went. They had called Bonnie on Caroline's cell phone and put it on speakerphone so she could be a part of the conversation too.

They had stayed up until midnight talking before deciding to call it a night. Caroline was happy that Rebekah's date had gone well; it seemed like her and Matt really had a good connection.

She had made her way to Klaus' room to find him shirtless sitting against his headboard, reading the first Harry Potter book. She flopped down on the bed next to him, but before she could speak he held up a finger for her to wait. He kept reading for a couple more minutes before setting the book down on his nightstand.

He leaned down to kiss her saying, "Sorry, Love. I was right near the end of the chapter, and I wanted to finish it."

Caroline smirked at him. "You like the book, don't you?"

Klaus sighed dramatically. "It isn't as horrible as I thought it would be."

"Ha! I knew it. You love Harry Potter!" Caroline cheered victoriously. "What part are you on?"

"I only have two chapters left."

"And you stopped reading?!" She gaped at him in shock. "You're almost to one of the best parts!"

"How do you know exactly what part of the book I'm at just from me telling you I have two chapters left?"

"Please, I've reread and listened to that series more times than I can count."

"Of course." He smiled at her, moving his hands down her sides teasingly. "Well, I'm done reading now, so we could have some of our own fun…"

"Are you crazy?" She asked, wiggling out from underneath him. "You only have two chapters left, and you're at the really good part! You have to finish the book tonight before we watch the movie tomorrow."

He groaned, trying to catch her as she stood up to change. "Sweetheart, no matter how good the end of the book is, I'm sure you are much more entertaining." He smirked at her, trying to tempt her. "There are so many more pleasurable things that we could be doing instead of reading…"

"You're right," Caroline said, smiling and inching towards him. She wrapped her arms around his neck, leaning in to whisper in his ear. "We can listen to the last two chapters together before we sleep; it'll be great!" She moved away from him and started to change into the set of pajamas that she kept in his closet.

"That wasn't exactly what I had in mind, Sweetheart…" Klaus said, eyeing her as she stripped in front of him.

"I know." She responded as she pulled on her tank top. "But I'm too tired, Nik." She pouted at him as she put on her sleep shorts.

"Vampires don't get tired." Klaus pointed out as she drew back the covers and reached over him for his phone to open the app.

She sighed dramatically. "Okay, okay, I'm not tired, but I really want to listen to the end of the book with you the first time that you've read through them. I'm just excited for my boyfriend, whom I love, to finish the story."

"I assure you I could get you excited about a different type of finish…" He muttered. At her pointed look, he sighed. "Alright, Sweetheart, play the book."

"Excellent!" Caroline exclaimed as she hit play and scooted closer to him.

As they listened, Klaus ran his fingers through her hair lazily. She looked over at him when Harry got to the trapdoor. "Are three headed dogs real?"

He chuckled. "I have never come across one, Love."

"Bummer."

"What about flying brooms?" She questioned as they got to that part of the story.

"I thought you were the one who told me that this author didn't write this series to be accurate?"

"That's fair."

When they finished the book she looked at him with a huge smile on her face. "Well?"

He smiled back at her. "I have to admit that it was pretty good, Love."

She scoffed. "Psshh, 'pretty good?' It's fantastic. Best series of books in the history of ever. Period."

He rolled his eyes at her. "Since you poke jokes at my age all the time, perhaps I should start making fun of you for being so young."

"There's nothing to make fun of about my age." She laughed. "Being young is a good thing. So will you keep reading and listening to the books?"

"I suppose I shall. I'm intrigued at this point." He nodded. "Although, I am going to be watching the movies tomorrow, so maybe I'll just leave it at that."

"No way." Caroline shook her head seriously. "The movies are nowhere as good as the books. If you watch the movies, you have to read the books too."

"Well I suppose I will be doing both, won't I? Seeing as how you already have the day of movies planned."

"Just lucky planning, I guess."

Bonnie and Matt arrived right at 8 the next morning for their movie marathon. Both Rebekah and Matt had the biggest smiles on their faces when they saw each other. Rebekah walked towards him to kiss him on the cheek, but Kol swooped in and elbowed her out of the way.

He put his arm around Matt's shoulders. "Matt! I'm so happy you could make it for the movies today. It's going to be a lot of fun. I just finished listening to the second book."

Matt looked surprised at the youngest Original brother. "Hey, Kol. Yeah, they're really good books, and the movies do a pretty good job of showing everything."

Kol nodded. "I've heard nothing but good things about them. Nik is a bit of a slower reader than I am, he's still only on the first book." Kol rolled his eyes at his brother.

"I thought you said you were listening to the books?" Matt looked at Kol innocently.

Everyone laughed as Kol was called out.

"And I actually just finished the first book last night." Klaus added in as he clapped a hand on Kol's shoulder and pulled him away from Matt. Rebekah smiled at Klaus as she stepped next to Matt and kissed him on the cheek.

"Well, we should get to the movies." Kol said, moving over to be next to Bonnie. "Hello, Darling, you look gorgeous today."

Bonnie glanced down at her outfit, which consisted of a red v-neck t-shirt and gray yoga pants, before looking back to Kol with a fake hurt expression on her face. "What do you mean 'today?' Are you trying to tell me that I don't look gorgeous all the time?"

Kol's eyes widened as he tried to think of something to save himself. "No, Darling, I just meant… I mean you always… I mean -"

"I was teasing you, Kol." Bonnie smiled up at him, finally letting him off the hook.

Kol recovered quickly. "Of course, Bonnie Lass, I knew that. How about those movies then, yeah?"

They all made their way into the media room. Matt looked around in awe as he entered the room and moved to sit on one of the couches. "Shit! This is awesome! I've always wanted to have a room like this when I have my own house."

Kol sped ahead, knocking into Rebekah, to sit on the couch next to Matt. "You're welcome to come hang out any time that you want." He was clearly proud of himself for remembering to call it 'hanging out' instead of a date. "We have a ton of action movies. Maybe we could do that after we go to the batting cages?"

Matt smiled at him. "Yeah, that would be cool, man."

"Cool." Kol echoed, leaning back into the couch.

"Kol, move." Rebekah glared down at him from her position next to the couch.

"Bekah, I'm just sitting here talking with my friend, Matt. Chill out." Kol waved his hand dismissively at her.

"You can come sit next to me, Bekah." Bonnie called loudly from the couch behind them. "I really don't want to sit here all by myself." She winked at Rebekah knowingly.

"I'll sit with you, Darling!" Kol said over his shoulder before turning to Matt. "You don't mind, do you, Mate?"

"No, Kol." Matt said, trying not to laugh. "I understand, man."

Kol held up his fist to Matt expectantly, pointing to it when Matt didn't do anything at first. Matt hesitantly bumped his fist against Kol's, after which Kol proceeded to slowly pull his back and open his hand so his fingers were spread out, clearly making an exploding motion. He happily got up from the couch and went to join Bonnie.

Matt was really trying not to laugh, but couldn't hold it in as Caroline practically rolled around in laughter on the couch opposite him, "You two are sooo cute!" She teased them.

"What?" Kol asked from his place next to Bonnie. "I've seen that in several television shows!" He looked to Bonnie for support, and she quickly nodded to him. When he looked back at Caroline triumphantly, Bonnie put her hand to her mouth to stifle her own giggles.

"Katherine and Elijah didn't want to join us?" Caroline asked, looking at the siblings.

Rebekah rolled her eyes. "Thank God for that."

"No, Love. I believe they were out looking at apartments today." Klaus answered her question.

"Elijah is moving out?" She asked.

"That trollop certainly wasn't going to move in here." Rebekah responded.

Caroline looked over at her friend. "It really seems like she's trying, Bekah. I think we should give her a chance."

Rebekah looked at Caroline and saw that she was being genuine. Her eyes quickly flicked to Matt and saw him watching for her response. "I suppose I can try to do that. But if she breaks my brother's heart again, I'm tearing hers out."

"That's probably fair." Caroline nodded. "So, let's get this movie party started!"

"I'll do it!" Kol shouted, jumping up to put in the first DVD. "This is going to be excellent!"

They all settled in as the first movie started. Caroline peaked over her shoulder to see Kol extending his arm around the back of the couch towards Bonnie. She noticed Bonnie roll her eyes before scooting slightly closer to him. Turning her eyes to Matt and Rebekah, she saw Matt smile at Rebekah as he leaned back against the couch and slipped his hand into hers. Rebekah beamed at him before tucking her feet underneath her and relaxing back as well.

Klaus snaked his arm around her waist and pulled her closer to him so that she was leaning back against his chest. She smiled in contentment as she turned her attention to the movie.

Halfway through The Chamber of Secrets, Rebekah furrowed her eyebrows and looked at the others. "Can't they just find a vampire and have them compel that little blonde boy to find out if he did it?"

Kol snorted derisively at her. "Their vampires aren't like us, Bekah. You'd know that if you actually read the books instead of being an uncultured trollop."

Matt quickly tossed his arm around Rebekah's shoulders. "I think it's pretty cool that you haven't seen any of the movies or read the books, Bekah. It makes it special for me to be experiencing it with you for your first time."

Rebekah smiled at him until Kol spoke again, "Sorry to disappoint you, Matt, but it's far from her first time. Ouch!" Bonnie elbowed him sharply in the ribs.

"Kol, if you continue to bother our sister, I'll ban you from this room." Klaus warned.

"You can't do that! I actually want to see these movies! She's just doing it to make my friend, Matt, like her more." Kol complained.

"I am not!" Rebekah retorted, though Caroline could see her blushing. "I'm enjoying them!"

"Plus," Matt looked back at Kol. "I really like her, I don't know if it's possible to like her more than I already do. Also, it's kind of against the bro code to diss your friend's girl; I don't know if I can go to the batting cages with you if you keep doing it."

Kol gaped at him. "I'll stop! But what's the bro code?"

Matt looked at him in fake surprise. "You mean, you don't know?" Kol shook his head quickly, leaning in towards Matt. "It's this set of rules and codes and stuff between bros."

"Where do I find it?" Kol asked curiously.

Matt chuckled. "It's just something you know, Kol. I guess I could fill you in on it at the batting cages, but I'd have to know that you won't keep making fun of Rebekah anymore…"

Kol nodded quickly. "Oh, I won't, promise." He pretended to draw an X over his heart.

Matt scrutinized him for several seconds before nodding slowly. "Alright, just make sure you stick to it."

Klaus was watching Matt with an impressed look on his face. He leaned down to whisper in Caroline's ear so no one would overhear. "I didn't know he could manipulate anyone like that. I'm impressed. Maybe he is worthy of my sister."

"Okay, one: someone's manipulation skills should not be what impresses you into thinking they're right for your sister." Caroline replied lowly. "And two: Kol is pretty easy to manipulate and distract."

"Fair point, Love" He said as they returned their attention to the movie.

They took a break after the second movie ended and ordered pizza for lunch. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves as they ate and talked. They all resettled into their spots to start the third movie and moved onto the fourth.

"Gosh they all grew up good in between the third and fourth movie." Caroline commented.

"They definitely did." Bonnie nodded in appreciation as they watched. "Except for the fact that they all needed serious haircuts for this movie."

"I thought you liked long hair, Darling?" Kol looked at Bonnie in confusion.

Bonnie just shook her head at him. "Just watch the movie, Kol."

He turned his attention back to the screen as Viktor Krum came on. "Now he barely has any hair." He muttered causing everyone else to laugh.

Klaus studied the screen as the movie progressed. When Mad Eye Moody appeared, he tilted his head to the side. "Him. He's one of the villains."

Caroline looked over at him in shock. "How the hell do you know that? Did you look up spoilers or something?"

"No," Klaus shook his head. "He's just acting strangely."

"He's been in the movie for all of five seconds." Caroline replied.

"That's plenty of time to figure out someone's true intentions." Klaus shrugged. "I do have experience with being the 'bad guy,' Love." He winked at her.

"Thanks a lot for spoiling it, Nik." Kol pouted.

"You must be slipping if you weren't able to pick up on it too, brother." Klaus smirked at Kol over his shoulder.

"Yeah, well I knew from day one that that Snape teacher was bad!" Kol yelled.

Klaus rolled his eyes. "Well that was just obvious, baby brother."

Bonnie, Caroline and Matt all exchanged knowing smiles before turning their attention back to the screen.

They decided to take another break after the end of the fourth movie. Everyone stood up and stretched as they made their way back upstairs into the kitchen.

"Well, we have an hour and a half before we contact Sheila again," Rebekah started. "Anyone feel up for takeout from the Grill? Matt and I can go and pick it up."

"You just want an excuse to snog him." Kol smirked at his sister before catching Matt's eye and quickly saying. "Which you have every right to do since he is your boyfriend."

"That sounds good." Caroline quickly interjected.

Rebekah dashed away and returned with a pencil and pad of paper. "Here, write down what you all want, and we'll get going."

Caroline took it and began to write down her order. She handed the pad to Klaus and moved to get her purse to get money to give Rebekah. Klaus passed the paper to Bonnie and put his hand on Caroline's arm.

"Don't worry about it, Love." He said before he fished out his wallet and handed Rebekah a card. "Put everything on here, Bekah."

"Oh, you don't have to do that, man." Matt spoke up.

Klaus waved his concern away. "It's my treat."

"You sure?" Matt asked.

Klaus nodded. "You all supplied the movies, I'll cover dinner."

Just then, Katherine sauntered in the front door followed by Elijah. "I'm up for some food." She said, reaching for the pad Kol was holding.

"Katerina." Elijah said, looking at her meaningfully.

Katherine looked to him before sighing. "Right. I mean, Elijah and I would love to join you guys if you all don't mind."

"We don't mind." Caroline blurted out. "The more the merrier, right Nik? Bekah?" She looked at two siblings pointedly.

Klaus narrowed his eyes at her before saying, "Sure, join us for dinner."

Rebekah rolled her eyes. "Fine."

Elijah sent Caroline a thankful look before accepting the paper and pencil from Katherine. Matt and Rebekah left shortly after that, and the rest of them filed into the living room.

"So, how was the apartment search?" Caroline asked, trying to fill the silence.

"We found a few things that had some potential." Elijah responded diplomatically.

"There was one that wasn't awful." Katherine nodded. "So when are we doing this seance thing?"

Caroline saw Klaus' jaw clench and tried to put a calming hand on his. "I wasn't aware that you knew about the seance." He grit out glaring at Elijah and then Katherine.

"The one where Bonnie's Grams is going to tell us if your youngest brother is stuck on the other side?" Katherine asked. "Yeah, Elijah told me about it." She looked at Elijah who was just shaking his head at her. "What? You didn't say I wasn't supposed to know!"

Caroline looked around at them and tried to ease some of the tension. "I think it's good that you know, Katherine. You are on our side now, so the more people we have to help possibly bring Henrik back, the better."

Katherine sent her a small smile as Elijah replied, "My thinking exactly, Caroline."

"If it helps us get Henrik back, I'm all for it." Kol added.

Katherine turned to Bonnie. "How are your powers coming along?"

Bonnie raised an eyebrow at her. "Uh… fine, I guess. I've been improving a lot lately."

"Good." Katherine nodded, obviously trying to be friendly. "Also, no hard feelings about the time that you trapped me in a room in the Lockwood Mansion and tried to help kill me. Clean slate and all that." She sent the witch a dazzling smile

Bonnie looked surprised for a few seconds before shaking her head. "You know what? Sure, clean slate, Katherine; no hard feelings."

Caroline smiled over at her Bonnie. "See? Isn't this going great so far?" She looked around at everyone: Bonnie, Katherine and Kol all chuckled at her, and Elijah sent her another thankful smile. Klaus was leaning back against the couch with his arms folded glaring at a spot on the floor.

She nudged him with her shoulder. "Hey, can I talk to you in your room for a minute?"

He stood up and offered her his hand. They made their way out of the room, and heard Kol calling after them. "Keep that door open, you two! No funny business; dinner will be here soon!"

Klaus made sure to slam his door closed after they entered his room.

"Do you think I hit a nerve?" They heard Kol's voice downstairs.

Caroline shook her head before turning to face Klaus. "Are you alright?"

"I didn't expect Elijah to tell her about Henrik." He sighed. "This is our youngest brother who we haven't seen in over a millennium. I don't know why he trusted Katerina Petrova with a secret of this magnitude."

Caroline sighed as she walked over to him, resting her hands on his shoulders. "Because he loves her." Klaus rolled his eyes. "You know, everyone thought I was crazy for trusting you a month and a half ago…"

"That's completely different, Sweetheart. Katherine has betrayed my family over and over throughout the centuries."

"And you had hurt my friends over and over before we made that truce."

Klaus' eyes shot to hers as he seemed to think about what she had just said, and he sighed. "You have a point, I suppose."

"I do have a point." She responded, moving one of her hands to scrape her nails against the back of his neck. "She's trying, Nik, just like you and your family tried when we first made the truce, and look at you guys now. Look at all of us now."

He leaned his forehead against hers. "I know, Love, I know. I just wish the first thing we had to trust her with wasn't Henrik's potential return."

"I understand." she nodded against his head. "If it helps any, it really does seem like she's making an effort. I told you about the talk I had with her in here last night. She wants to sort of make amends, and she loves Elijah."

He sighed. "If she does anything to prevent us from getting Henrik back, I'm going to kill her, Caroline."

"And you would be completely justified in doing so." She responded, kissing him gently.

He pulled her closer and deepened the kiss. Just as he started walking her backwards towards his bed, Kol's voice echoed through the halls.

"Dinner's here!"

Klaus pulled away from her in frustration. "Maybe we should look at apartments…"

Caroline laughed. "Did you just ask me to move in with you?"

Klaus rolled his eyes. "Go look in my closet and see how many outfits you have here. You practically already live with me."

Caroline thought for a few seconds. "Oh, you're kind of right."

He smirked down at her. "I usually am, Love."

"Nik! STBSIL!" Kol called, drawing out both of their names while knocking on the door.

"Definitely need an apartment." Klaus muttered.

"Or maybe our own house…" Caroline added, causing him to look at her in surprise. She winked at him as she walked over to his bedroom door.

They were all gathered around the coffee table again as Kol set out the candles and Bonnie placed her grandmother's watch in the center.

"So, it should be easier to reach out to her this time because she is expecting it." Kol told Bonnie before looking around the circle at everyone else. "Remember, we all have to hold hands, and do not break the connection until Bonnie or I tell you that it's alright."

Matt looked slightly nervous at the idea of contacting the dead. Rebekah sent him a reassuring smile before slipping her hand into his.

Katherine took his other hand, smirking. "Don't worry, Matty Blue Blue, we'll all go gentle for your first time." She saw both Rebekah and Elijah glaring at her. "Sorry, force of habit."

The rest of them joined hands and looked to Bonnie. Caroline squeezed her friend's hand. "Ready, Bon?"

Bonnie smiled at her, "Yeah, it'll be nice to talk to her again." She took a deep breath. "Sheila Bennett, I call on you again to communicate with us."

The next time Bonnie's lips moved, it was Sheila talking through her. "You don't need to be so formal, child. I've been waiting for you to call me for over an hour now."

"Sorry, Grams." Bonnie replied. "We wanted to wait until it was dark."

"Caroline's been making you watch those shows again, hasn't she?" Grams smiled over at Caroline teasingly. "Now, let's get down to business. Emily, Ayanna and I all searched the Other Side, as well as a few of your other ancestors, for any sign of a barrier or concealment spell. We didn't have to search long because we found a ward set up over about a square mile in the forest just outside of Mystic Falls. We couldn't get through it, and I can't say for certain that Henrik was concealed in it. However, I'd say that there's a good chance he's there."

Caroline saw the hope on all of the Original siblings' faces. Klaus was the first to speak. "This square mile that was warded, did it happen to be near the entrance to a system of caves?"

Sheila looked over at him, nodding. "It did, actually. It was about 50 yards away from a cave opening."

Klaus nodded as though he was expecting that. "He's there; Ester is concealing Henrik there. That's where we were watching the wolves transform that night."

Everyone was silent for a few moments. Sheila nodded. "That would make sense. If Ester really did pull that boy to the other side and conceal him there, the easiest place to do that would be at the site of his death."

"Well, this is good news." Rebekah smiled. "We can get him back."

Bonnie responded, "We haven't found the spell yet. Kol and I still have one and a half of Ayanna's grimoires left to search through."

"I have good news and bad news for you all." Sheila spoke again. "The good news is that Ayanna has a soft spot for that little brother of yours. She asked me to tell you that the spell to bring him back is in her grimoire marked with nine x's."

"Of course," Kol sighed. "That's the one we haven't even looked through yet."

"What's the bad news?" Caroline asked.

Sheila sighed. "The ward concealing him is powerful dark magic. It's going to take a lot of juice to break it, and unfortunately Bonnie's not going to be able to do that, even if she channels Kol and all of us Bennetts over here."

"So there's no way to break through the wards to get Henrik back?" Rebekah choked out, her eyes filling with tears.

Sheila hesitated. "The only way that I could see it happening is if you were to harness some of Ester's own magic. Bonnie would have to take Ester's magic out of something on your side and put it into a talisman. The talisman would have to be something that belonged to your mother. She could use that talisman to use Ester's own power against her. If she had that over there and channeled Kol while Ayanna, Emily and I were performing the same spell over here, we could break the ward. I don't know how much time you would all have to perform the other spell to pull him back to the living side of the veil, but I can't imagine it would be very long…"

"What do you mean, we'd have to take Ester's magic out of something else?" Elijah questioned curiously.

"You would have to find something that Ester put a great deal of magic into." Sheila replied. "Did she perform any major spells before she died?"

"Oh my God!" Caroline gasped. "Meredith. She put a lot of magic into the spell to make Meredith. She bragged about how much dark power she would have to draw on to complete it. Grams, when we kill Meredith, could we take the power that Ester infused into her to turn her into a vampire and transfer it into the talisman thing?"

Sheila nodded slowly. "I'd say that that would be plenty of magic to break through the ward spell."

"How would I take the magic out of Meredith and put it into the talisman?" Bonnie asked.

"It's just a simple spell of transference." Kol muttered, deep in thought. "It doesn't matter if you're transferring water from one bowl to another or magic from one object to another; it's one of the most basic spells a witch learns after levitation."

"Exactly," Grams agreed. "It was the second spell you mastered, Bonnie."

"That's it?" Rebekah asked with hope. "We just need to kill Meredith and have Bonnie perform this simple spell to trap some of Ester's magic? We were going to kill her anyway. Will you do it, Bonnie?"

"Of course," Bonnie responded immediately. "Do you really think I'll be able to pull off the spell to pull him back to our side, Grams?"

"Of course I do, my child." Sheila replied. "I knew from the beginning that you were going to be the most powerful Bennett yet."

"Thank you." Klaus said earnestly. "This means everything to our family, Sheila. We are in your debt for helping us."

Sheila stared at him. "You're not in my debt, Hybrid. It is a witch's job to ensure that nature is in balance. When your mother pulled Henrik from his state of peace to the Other Side, she broke that balance. She also broke it when she turned Meredith Fell into an Original. I'm simply helping to right a wrong."

"Well, thank you nonetheless." Klaus nodded at her.

She returned his nod. "Now, when you are ready to perform the spell to break the ward, connect with me again, Bonnie, and I'll make sure Emily and Ayanna are ready to help."

"Thank you, Grams." Bonnie replied. "We couldn't have done this without your help."

"I know, my dear girl." Sheila said softly. "I'll see you again soon."

Bonnie's head rolled back for a few seconds before she blinked several times and seemed to come back to herself. "She's gone, we can break the circle now."

They all let go of each others' hands, except Kol, who helped Bonnie stand up and led her to one of the couches. The rest of them stood up as well and settled into their original spots.

"She said we would need an item that belonged to Mother to be used as the talisman." Elijah finally spoke.

"The necklace." Rebekah whispered. "The necklace that she gave to me when I was a little girl. Stefan found it when we fled from Mikael and gave it to Elena. Elena gave it back to me to lull me into a false sense of calm before she stabbed me in the back and snatched it off my neck."

"Are you telling me that the key to breaking the spell to freeing our brother is in the hands of Elena fucking Gilbert?" Klaus grit out.
