The Story of Mafin and Begu

38. Author's Note

Hey guys, it's me, Story Nado.

After debating a lot in my head over the past few days, I have decided to reboot this fanfiction.

I'm sorry, but I just can't do this anymore. It's become too large of a story, some plot points don't really make a lot of sense, and I feel like I'm kinda losing control of the whole thing.

To be honest, I've always been kinda stuck in a love-hate relationship with this story. I absolutely enjoyed writing out so much stuff—each of the training arcs of Mafin and Begu, Kappukeki's introduction, her character in general, Mafin's cute interactions with Android 21, 21's little training arc, the entirety of Chapters 11-15 (as well as 28-29), and the final dancing scene from the previous chapter...gosh, I loved all of that.

I really didn't enjoy writing a lot of OTHER things, though—the duo's angst about Octoria, the 21 medicine subplot, Evil 21's plan, every Z-Fighter ignoring both 21 and Kappukeki's massive power levels...for some reason.

All of this was a result of me trying to not make my plot ruin the natural flow of the Android/Cell Saga—and I messed it up, and made some things in the story illogical, and kind of stupid.

And these issues all trace back to two things—my impatience, and my lack of planning.

See, when starting this whole thing out, I envisioned doing a DBZ recap story, just starting out at the end of the Frieza Saga. From there I would go on to the Android/Cell Saga, then Buu, then Beerus, and finally, the (Good) Android 21 Saga from Dragonball Fighterz.

However, by the time I finished Chapter 15, it was November of 2019. I realized that writing all of that was gonna take a while, and I wanted to write for (Good) Android 21 really, really badly! After all, she is the reason this fic even exists in the first place.

So, I wrote her into the 16th chapter. I removed the character's need for a human soul, and the whole Z-Fighter clones storyline (both extremely crucial plotpoints in Fighterz.) The reason for that is because I wanted to remove all that unnecessary stuff which, in my opinion, overcrowded the story of that game.

Ironic, isn't it? I tried to make a less messy story than DBF, and I ended up doing the exact opposite.

This is why I'm writing a reboot. I want to start over, and create a much more stripped back type story.

I also want to figure everything out with this new fanfic, so I don't know when I'll release it. But I CAN say that it will revolve around the story of Fighterz, more specifically the (Good) Android 21 Arc. The love story between Mafin and Android 21 will still be there, as well as the friendship between Mafin and Begu.

Overall, it's...uh...it's been an insane roller coaster ride writing this fanfic. It was a massive, ambitious experiment. I loved writing for the main cast, and each of their different personalities. There were some really great moments, and there were some really weak moments. But, at the end of it all...I had fun.
