I DON'T OWN TVD
Caroline was exhausted. It had been another long day with no answers and she was just as confused as ever. She hated that there was a huge chunk of time she didn't remember but at the same time from what people told her that chunk of time seemed scary to her. Instead of going home she decided to stop at The Grill and compel herself a drink or two.
She sat at the bar sipping her drink and doing her best to not to think about anything going on in her life. Right now she jus wanted to pretend that she was a normal girl.
"Good evening, Darling."
Caroline looked to her left and saw Kol sitting beside her with a smile on his face. She didn't know Kol well, at least not that she remembered but he always seemed to be smiling.
"Hi." She said simply before taking another drink.
"Have you spoken to Nik?" He asked in a more serious tone.
Caroline shook her head. "He texted me this morning but, no."
"I had to get out of the house. He has been on edge and barking orders all day." He paused. "Not that I blame him. We all want you back." He paused to take a drink. "You know…last time we were sitting here together my brother walked in. He will never admit it…" He said leaning in closer to Caroline. "But he was extremely jealous that we were sitting together."
"Probably a wolf thing…always has to prove he is the alpha." She rolled her eyes and took another sip.
Kol laughed. "I strongly disagree with that, Sweetheart. I mean yes, my brother does have the need to be in control but I don't think that was the case that night."
Caroline downed the rest of her drink and hopped off the barstool. "Well, despite all the fun I am having here I am going home."
Kol tossed the rest of his drink down his throat and jumped up off the stool as well. "Let me walk you home." He said following after Caroline.
"Why?"
Kol sighed. "Caroline, you may not remember but you are very important not jut to Nik but our whole family." He said as he continued to follow her towards the door.
Before either of them could say another word Klaus came through the door, almost crashing into them both. He looked back and forth between Kol and Caroline several times before Kol broke the silence between them.
"Brother, what are you doing here?"
Caroline looked at Klaus, really looked at him and she isn't sure why buy her heart ached to see him the way he was. He looked exhausted and she was probably wrong but she could have sworn his eyes tear up as he looked between the two of them.
Klaus didn't answer Kol. Instead he turned towards Caroline. "I found a witch that may be able to help." He said softly. I am meeting her in New York tomorrow."
Without another word he began to walk past both Caroline and Kol towards the bar.
"Klaus?" Caroline called out before he got to far. Klaus immediately stopped and turned to face her. The fact that she called him Klaus and not Nik did not go unnoticed by him. "Thank you." She said softly.
Klaus nodded and gave her the same sad smile Rebekah had given her earlier then turned and continued walking to the bar. Caroline turned to Kol. "I am really fine getting home by myself. You should go hang out with your brother." She said glancing over at Klaus again. He was now seated at the bar looking down at an already empty glass. "He looks like he could use some company."
"He could. But I am not the company he wants." He said before leaving through the door.
Caroline let out a sigh and looked over at Klaus one more time before leaving.
No mater what she did Caroline could not sleep. The look on Klaus' face earlier at The Grill was haunting her. Why did she care if he was upset? Maybe her heart still remembered whatever their relationship used to be even though he brain didn't. She rolled her eyes at the thought. That seemed like something that would happen on those cheesy Hallmark Christmas movies that she loved. She turned over for probably the twentieth time that night and stared at her phone on her nightstand. Before she could change her mind she grabbed I and opened up her text messages.
"I'm sorry I don't remember.'
Caroline bit her lip she had no idea what to write but a small part of her was worried about him. Then she let out a small laugh. The fact that he wasn't a big scary hybrid had her worried. It was really late so she wasn't expecting him to respond. She placed her phone back on the nightstand and tried once again to fall asleep. Just as she closed he eyes her phone beeped with a new message.
'It isn't your fault, Sweetheart. I promise you I will find a solution.'
Before Caroline had a chance to think of a response another message came through.
'It's late. You should be sleeping.'
Caroline let a small smile spread across her lips but quickly shook her head and made herself come back from reality.
'Couldn't sleep.'
'And why is that?'
'Oh, I don't know. Maybe because I had two months of time erased form my memory and according to everyone those two months changed me life completely. It is a little stressful.'
'Please trust that I will fix this. I will let you know what the witch says tomorrow. Please get some sleep, Love.'
Once Klaus arrived in New York he made his way to the small gift shop that the witch, Erica owned. He parked his car and wasted no time going inside to find her.
"Are you Erica?" Klaus asked the brunette women behind the counter. She was younger than he expected, in her twenties. He hoped that she was powerful enough to do this and he didn't just waste his time.
The women turned around and just looked at Klaus for a moment before responding. "Klaus?" She asked with a smile. Before Klaus could even respond Erica hopped off the tiny footstool she was standing on and walked around the counter. She locked the front door and turned her sign to the 'Sorry We are closed" side. "Follow me." She said as she led Klaus through a door to a tiny back room. "Why don't you tell me your story again. I want to be sure nothing is left out."
Klaus sighed. "It really isn't a long story. My mother, the Original Witch put some kind of spell on someone I care deeply for. At first she passed out and was out for about fifteen minutes. When she woke up she couldn't remember anything that happened in the last two months."
And this person you care deeply for…is a vampire correct?" Klaus nodded. "Now two months isn't that much time to lose…especially if you think about it from a vampire's perspective. Why bother with all this to try and regain two months of memories?"
"That is non of your…" Klaus began to growl but than stopped himself. If he wanted this women to help him fix Caroline then he needed to stay calm and at least try to be nice. "It doesn't matter." He said quickly. "Is there anything you can do?"
"There are a few spells I can try but it will take a while to round up all the herbs I will need. And we will have to wait for a full moon."
"There is one in two days." Klaus said.
Erica shook her head. "That is too soon. We will have to wait until next month. Like I said I will need time." She paused. "You will have to bring the girl here. I won't travel to a town with so many vampires." She paused again. "And I will contact you with my fee. Now please leave, I have a business I need to run."
Klaus nodded and immediately headed to his car. He pulled his phone from his pocket and opened up his text messages.
'Good news Sweetheart I found a witch that seems to think she can help. Unfortunately we have to wait until the full moon next month.'
Just as Klaus was about to put his phone back in his pocket it beeped with a new message.
'And you trust her?'
'I would never put you in any danger. She is aware of who I am and who my family is. She wouldn't do anything to upset us. Do you trust me?'
Klaus wasn't sure he wanted to hear her answer to that last part. He knew Caroline trusted him before but he was sure right now the answer would be very different.
