Chapter 40: If I ever feel better

Callie's POV

When I opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was a white ceiling. For a few seconds, I did not really understand where I was, but then I quickly remembered the accident and started to panic not knowing the damage I had received.

However, I saw that Arizona was sitting next to my bed. When she saw me get up, she stood up and took me in her arms.

"I got so scared Calliope." Arizona said to me with tears running from her eyes. "Promise me this is the last time you have a car accident."

"I'll be careful next time but don't worry I'll never leave you."

"I am counting on you."

"Am I okay?"

"I just spoke to the surgeon who performed your surgery. Your arm was injured but the surgeon did everything he could to repair it and it worked."

"Is the rest of my body okay?"

"Yes, you are fine. Can you tell me how it went? Do you remember the accident?"

"On my way to the hospital, I stopped to get a cup of coffee because I needed to awake before going to surgery. I parked in front of the coffee shop and crossed the road to get my cup. I drank it inside and then crossed the road again to get back to my car. That's when the car hit me. In fact, I had almost reached the sidewalk and the car hit my arm which was backwards."

"The most important thing is that you are okay."

"I guess I'll have to wear a cast?"

"Yes, the doctor told me that you would have to wear a cast for approximately two months and then you would have to do some rehabilitation. This means that you won't be able to perform surgery for a few months."

"That's no big deal," I replied, "it will allow me to do more research. Maybe I'll open a research center of my own."

"It would be a shame for us to compete against each other."

"It would be a shame, especially since you know very well that I would win."

"You're wrong, I'll win easily. Let me remind you that I work with babies, babies attract more funding than broken bones."

"That's not false."

"Anyway, the most important thing for me is that you are well and that our children will be able to come and embrace their mamma tonight."

"They will be able to come tonight?" I asked her with an intense desire to be able to hug my children.

"Of course," Arizona answered me with her magical smile, "Jen went to pick them up and she is waiting for me to call to bring them over."

"Sofia wasn't too scared when you told her I had an accident?"

"No, it was fine. I waited until you were out of surgery to tell her. That way, I was able to reassure her directly. Plus, it allowed her to skip her math class."

"I am happy to have helped deteriorate our daughter's school education."

"Don't worry about her school education, baby. Your daughter will be brilliant, I have no doubt about that. She has inherited your intelligence added to that of Mark. I will help her with her homework tonight."

"I trust you to take care of Sofia's education."

"Okay, I'll call Jen and have her bring the kids here. I can tell that you need to hold your kids tight."

Sofia's POV

Learning that Mamma had been in a car accident instantly shocked me, but Mummy immediately reassured me that everything was fine, and that the surgery had gone well. Jen picked me up from school and we sat in her office waiting for Mamma to wake up.

A few minutes later Jen got a call from my mothers and the three of us were able to go to the hospital to see Mamma. Once we were both on the floor where Mamma was, Jen said goodbye and my mom came to pick me up before she took William in her arms. We hugged each other and then she took my hand to go to the room.

When we saw Mamma, all the anxiety we had was gone in an instant. She was as beautiful as ever, as beautiful as before the accident.

"Here are my two most beautiful masterpieces." Mamma said. "Come and give me a hug to comfort me from my fears of this day."

Mamma gave my brother to my mother while I got on the bed. Our only mission together was to show her that we were there for her. She was our rock and had always stood for the members of this family. She had been there for us every day of our lives, so that day we wanted to show her that we, her children, were also there for her.
