Day 39: The Behemoth
Put yourself in Cole MacGrath's shoes for a minute. Pretend that you're on the hunt for a bastard known as Joseph Bertrand III after narrowly escaping from you. You find the wreckage of his getaway helicopter by the harbor and look to see if he's inside. As you're looking, you hear a hideous roar. You leave the wreckage to investigate the source of the sound when out from a wall of smoke comes this gargantuan monster with a face only a mother could try to love. This thing is the first boss of inFamous2, the Behemoth.
Lyra: I hope you realize you fight the Beast before this fight in the beginning of the game.
Me: True, but I honestly view the Beast as a tutorial boss.
Lyra: Skelter Helter was a tutorial boss. What's his excuse?
Me: You see, while Skelter Helter is a tutorial boss, that fight was separated into two phases. One that gives you a tutorial, and one that has you go toe to toe with him with no tutorials. The fight with the Beast doesn't have a phase where they cut you loose from the tutorials. It's all tutorials all the time. That's why I consider the Behemoth to be inFamous 2's first real boss battle. Understand the concept?
Lyra: Whatever helps you sleep at night, dude.
Now back to the Behemoth.
In this fight you have to aim for the Behemoth's five weak points; two on its arms and three on its chest. Cole must use his electric powers to shoot at these weak points to bring the monster down, all while it goes on a rampage throughout New Marais.
As you shoot at the Behemoth's weak points, it'll unleash its own nasty barrage of attacks. These attacks include it letting out a roar that'll blow Cole back, shooting out green slime from its mouth, grabbing Cole with the tentacles that come out of its chest, and summon swamp monsters for you to deal with.
Between hitting the Behemoth's weak points, dodging its attacks and taking on its swamp monsters, and taking some time to recharge your electric energy, this is yet another fight that keeps you on your toes, but it manages to be enjoyable.
The music that accompanies this fight is also really intense makes you feel like you're fight a giant abomination that's wrecking the city.
The only thing better than the actual fight is what happens afterwards.
After taking the Behemoth down, it'll reveal itself as Joseph Bertrand, the same person that you've been trying to take down the whole game. He manages to flee the scene, but not before Cole notices, meaning that he's the only one in New Marais that knows about his 'little secret.'
Overall, the fight against the Behemoth manages to get as far as it did in the marathon because of its epic and enjoyable battle, and the cutscene that follows setting up events for most of the rest of the game.
