Chapter 39
I clashed with Hysiminai halfway through the large clear area in front of the MGM grand. He met my blow with equal force, but I held my ground.
As soon as I bounced off the attack, Remleon took my place and pressured the god, forcing him back a couple steps. Seeing his brother getting pressed, Makhai swung his sword wildly, nearly cleaving Remmy in half.
Thankfully, the wolf jumped up in time, and somehow landed on the gods own blade, using as if it was a normal surface. The two made eye contact for a second before Remmy jumped away and landed somewhere behind me.
Before Makhai could retract his blade, Zoe came from out of nowhere and kicked him directly in his torso, launching him back a decent ways away.
The two gods faltered a bit after recovering.
They raised there blades, but instead of charging us they seemed to size us up, taking things a bit more seriously. Our group did the same, Remleon crouching down and Zoe drawing a bow.
It was a classic standoff, and despite our strength in numbers, I thought the fight would be pretty equal. I myself raised my blade too and shifted my foot, preparing to fight. I planned on using everything I had, things I had learned from Eris and my own skills.
Though I still had to fight Noir, this right here felt more like a final battle.
Zoe cocked back a single arrow and let it fly. With the attack, the two gods sprang into battle, unleashing all hell.
Makhai, the one the arrow had flown to, easily sidestepped the attack, and with his brother he planted his foot.
Immediately, both gods took a single step forward and were in our faces in seconds. Remleon and I didn't waste time, swinging upwards and launching the gods up simultaneously. The both did a flip before landing gracefully.
I ran forward and clashed with Makhai yet again, though this time I was on the offensive. My aggressive attacks along with Zoe's occasional arrow coming through was enough to give my the advantage.
Just as the fight was getting good though, Makhai jumped backwards. The god stared at me for a second before looking at Remleon who was currently stuck, locking blades with Hysiminai.
Without a second thought, Makhai rushed forward and tackled the wolf, taking his brother with him. They tumbled a bit before Makhai jumped to his feet and pointed his blade at Remleon.
"What?!" Growled Hysiminai, obviously mad at his brother.
He was ignored however as Remleon got up, now with a distinct gash in his chest. Thankfully it didn't look to deep.
He glanced at me and then Makhai before he seemed to realize what was happening.
"So I guess your just dead set on fighting me then, huh?" He said with a chuckle, wiping blood of his chin.
Makhai only let out a low breath, keeping quiet.
The god raised his blade and prepared to fight once more, but was stopped by a distinct squelch that stopped him temporarily.
My eyes traveled downwards to see a curved silver blade in his should, somehow launched by Zoe without me seeing.
Makhai stared at the weapon for a second before ripping it out (something I would never recommend to anyone on his situation). The dagger clanked to the floor, and the god prepared himself once again.
Without another word, the stoic god rushed forward, and yet again him and the wolf were locked in battle.
Zoe herself rushed forward to help the wolf, probably sensing that he was I tired. I didn't doubt that he could handle himself, but I also knew how fearsome Makhai was.
I couldn't really focus on there fighting though as I felt a prescience move to my side. My inner instincts kicked in, and I felt myself duck down.
"Pay attention to the fight at hand, demigod!" Said the gruff voice of Hysiminai as he threatened chop off my head.
He delivered two more attacks in quick succession that I was forced to dodge, creating a large space of distance between me and the god.
"That was a close one." I said with sweat dripping down my face.
"You focusing on your friends, it nearly cost you your life." He said with disgust.
"Maybe."
He scowled before rushing forward. I mentally sighed. The same godly instincts that had helped against Eris continued to save me time and time again.
I just hoped they would pull through one more time, just this once.
Me and Hysiminai fought a grueling battle, neither one of us letting up. The god fought better then most and had almost ended me multiple times.
Unlike other fights where my godly instincts only kicked in temporarily, against the spirit of battle it was constant, saving me left in right.
Despite this though, he was still more impressive then I had originally thought. The fact that his brother had roughed up Remleon made me think he was the stronger of the two, but right now that was hard to believe as Hysiminai continued to slice me up.
I was bleeding heavily from multiple places, though none were too deep. I had almost landed a good hit on the god, but was rejected by his surprisingly thick armor.
After multiple minutes of fighting, I pushed off the god and caught my breath.
"Your stronger then I thought." I said with long, drawn out breaths.
The god grunted. "I'd hope the god of battle would know how to fight. Your not too bad yourself though. It sucks you don't have your scythe."
I shifted a bit and scanned my sword. It was dented in plenty of spots with blood stained all over. It had looked beautiful at first, but now it looked pretty worn out.
"I don't think I'll need it, though I do miss it." I said truthfully.
He raised a brow. "Oh yeah? Well we'll see. Though, I must say, your reflexes, they're something not seen in many demigods now a days. It makes me wonder why you possess them, after all, you are the son of a minor god."
I raised my sword horizontally and glided my fingers lightly over the flat of the blade. "I wasn't born with them, that's for sure. More like, I unlocked them, probably around the time I met your brother." I said. I don't know why I was talking so much as if this guy wasn't trying to kill me, but I kept going.
"I hadn't been able to access the power ever since then, until Eris, your mother, taught me how."
The god thought for a second before nodding.
"That power, demigod, it's the state that all gods process the world around them, meaning, it's something gods are born with.
As a demigod, you can access a little bit of this godly power, though not nearly as much as even a minor god like myself." He said, walking towards me.
"You probably gained the ability as a result of trauma or something similar, but stronger demigods with stronger parents, they reach that power the second they learn of their heritage. Though of course, they are a rare breed, much more common in the days of Greece." He said.
"My point being..." now the hyena was a step away from me. I don't know how he had gotten so close, but we were nearly face to face now.
"If you can barely reach to level of another demigod, what makes you think you can stand up to a GOD!"
"Eh?"
I couldn't even speak as the god swung down with heavenly strength, digging me into the pavement below. I barely had time to react, lifting up my blade it time.
"NOW DIE DEMIGOD! FACE THE TRUE WRATH OF A GOD!"
The god lunged forward and swung with unearthly force. I met him with gnashed teeth, struggling to keep up.
I repelled each attack, each on threatening to dislocate my shoulder. I really started to regret coming out here.
After more time fighting, the god had nearly snapped my blade in two and I knew I had to do something. With another prayer to the gods, I hit the gods blade upwards as I sent a high kick to his chest.
With a umph! The god flew back, rolling a bit before he came to a stop. I raised my blade and ran forward, prepared to end home while he was down.
However, I was distracted by a piercing yell to my side. My eyes darted go the side and immediately took in the scene.
I saw Remleon on a knee, blood flowing from his mouth and multiple cuts. He was a couple feet away from Zoe who was on her back, a single dagger raised defensively.
Standing over her was Makhai, a second away from ending the hunters life. My eyes went wide as I rushed for her.
"Keep you eyes on the battle at hand!" Yelled Hysiminai, rushing forward. Here I was, back exposed to my enemy with my partner a hit away from death. This was it, it was over.
I felt my reflexes kick in, but there was nothing I could do. If I was to duck, Zoe would die, if I ran forward, I would die and then the other two would fall soon. It was a lose lose.
I was prepared to accept my fate when my ears started to ring as a the pressure in the area got sufficiently more potent.
Before I could blink, a being appeared in between Makhai and Zoe, saving her from the gods sword. I heard Hysiminai growl and for some reason he didn't stab me in my back.
I scanned the being and was surprised to find,
"Limos?" I asked, but she said nothing. Instead, she took a step forward and grabbed the god in front of her before throwing him over her shoulder.
She slammed Makhai onto the floor before and the god went limp temporarily.
I glanced to my side and saw a prominent quill sticking through Hysiminai's palm, probably shot by Limos, forcing him to drop his blade.
The god snarled. "Limos...what is the meaning of this?"
The winged goddess simply stood up straight and dusted herself off. "Not all of us will follow Pseudea blindly, brother." She said with spite.
"Percy, take the wolf inside, me and the hunter will cover for you."
I was a little caught off guard, still shocked.
Hysiminai growled once more. "I won't let that happen." Without another word, the two wild gods charged forward and fought, claw against sword. After a second of fighting, Limos took a second to turn to me.
"What are you doing?! Run!" She yelled before deflecting a blow aimed for her wing.
I quickly composed myself and ran towards Remleon who was still on the floor.
"This is no place to die." I said, echoing the words Zoe had told me back at the ruins, seemingly a lifetime ago. I grabbed the wolf and slung him over my shoulder.
I noticed Makhai flare back to life, his veins glowing red once more as he slowly got up.
With Remmy leaning on me, I made my way to Zoe's side.
"Please, don't die." I said. "That would really suck."
She only nodded. "Do not worry, I do not plan on dying here." She said, raising her blade and meeting the gods gaze.
I nodded in thanks before running off, all while supporting Remleon. We were running in a dead sprint towards the entrance when I felt a shift behind me. I instinctively turned around to see Makhai flying through the air towards me with a blade above his head.
My eyes went wide, but thankfully Zoe was there.
"Not so fast." she said with a scowl, cocking back a glowing arrow and letting it fly, hitting the god in the left side of his torso.
The arrow landed with a boom!, throwing the god of course.
I turned around just in time to burst through the glass doors of the hotel, collapsing with Remleon.
"Damnit." He said with a scowl. "The charcoal bastard, he should've died at least four times, but he kept coming back up."
"Can you fight?" I asked.
He nodded. "I was just a bit out of it, my human form can't keep up sometimes is all."
We both stood up and scanned the area in front of us.
It was an empty lobby, void of any humans. Definitely the perfect place for a Greek god to stay.
"Someone strong here, for sure. Keep your guard up."
I remembered that last time he said that we had got jumped by the two gods, but ignored the thought as we explored the lobby.
We didn't find anything and decided the elevator was the best bet. I didn't know if Remleon planned on searching the entire hotel, but he seemed to have something in mind.
I walked into the elevator with the wolf and watched him press the button for the 4th floor.
"I think this is right."
I patiently waited as we went up. I held my sword by my side as I tried to steady my breath.
Just like Remleon, I was in a terrible condition, and I had no doubt that if I didn't end this quick, I wouldn't make it out of this alive.
My mind was racing, and I thought back to Hysiminai's words. He said something about demigods possessing the same "godly reflexes" I had, but apparently they were even more efficient.
I sighed. There was no point in worrying about it, as the door had just opened.
We walked through to see a hallway with a long red carpet reaching the end, multiple different rooms on each side.
I didn't really pay attention to the details though as I was focused on a being near the end of the room who was watching me and Remleon intently.
I could almost cry at the fact that the man wasn't Noir, but I didn't have time to complain as I immediately became worried.
The man at the end of the hallway wore a thick blue coat that turned into robes below the waste. The mans clothing was filled with different ancient symbols.
The man had slicked back white hair highlighted by his bright light blue eyes that were literal pools of magic. He blinked and they returned to normal.
He would've looked young if it wasn't for his white hair, but with it he looked like some sort of ancient wizard.
Logus.
A being said to be equal to Phonoi, the gods who had made me the way I was right now, that is to say exhausted.
The fact that he was supposedly stronger then both Makhai and Hysiminai was also a plus, making me dread what was about to happen even more.
Even if the two gods down stairs didn't come chasing after us, I didn't doubt that Logus alone could kill us both before we ever even met Noir.
I almost laughed. I don't know why my death was so funny, but if it was gonna happen then I might as we'll go out with a bang.
"Who are you?" Asked Remleon by my side. He raised his blade and I did the same.
"What are you doing here."
The god stood up straight and stuck his hand out, immediately making a floating book spear. He was a magic user, I remembered.
"My name is Logus, I am a god and one of the Androktasiai, and sadly I am here to kill you." He said.
Remmy scoffed.
"It is true you two are after Pseudea? If that is the case, then I cannot let you two leave this place alive."
"And what happens if we try to run?" Asked Remleon.
The god only shook his head. "Impossible. You can only escape once I'm dead."
"Hmmm. I see. Then it has to be then." I could tell Remleon wanted to negotiate because this god seemed more open then the rest, but he could also tell the god wouldn't change his mind.
"I'm glad you understand, Remleon, Perseus. I will try and end this quick, though I doubt you will let me." He said with a slight chuckle.
"Here, I will make the battlefield a little more suitable." The god waved the hand and the hallway changed form, stretching out until the room took the shape of a large circle, the size of a basketball court.
I glanced around. It was still relatively empty, making it a decent place for a fight, though I would've preferred better flooring.
"Shall we begin?" Asked the god, and without answering Remleon launched himself forward, swiping wildly with his dagger.
Logus seemed surprised at first but quickly reached his hand outward. The floating book flew to the gods hand and the being reached forward then pulled back.
Once he did so, a weapon appeared from the book, a mass of blue magical energy that took the form of a sword. The blade didn't even look tangible, but I knew it was when the god expertly reflected Remleon back with a single swipe.
After only seeing one attack, I could notice the gods expertise. The way he fought was much more different from Makhai or Phonoi. Instead of each attack packing a powerful punch, it seemed like the god would string his attacks together, carrying his momentum.
Remmy landed by my side and scowled.
"That magic blade, it'll be trouble. One clean swipe and your arms gone."
"The other one?" I asked with a little chuckle, referring to my prosthetic.
(A/N: I literally forgot about Percy's arm while writing, lmao, but I also don't wanna have it be something brought up a lot because he's had it for a year, so he should be used to it.)
Remmy gave me a slight glare and I found it funny that he was the one serious right now. Irony, I guess.
"Your right though." I said. "He's strong, stronger then the two outside. Stay prepared."
And with that, the two of us rushed forward into battle, fighting side by side for the first time ever.
The god smirked before raising his blade and somehow blocking us both with a single attack.
I scowled in his face before pushing off and launching myself into the air, Remleon backing away.
I did a turn halfway on my way down (nearly cut myself doing this, mind you)and slashed forward, nearly taking the gods head off.
"Ehh?" He seemed surprised by my agility, but didn't have time to react as Remleon pressured him once again. The wolf nearly stabbed the god dead in his chest, but was stopped when the man reached into his book once more, summoning forth another magical sword.
Obviously not expecting this, Remmy's eyes
went wide. The god met both me and Remleon, holding us still for a second before launching us both back.
I landed with a thud before recovering.
I looked up to see Logus raising a brow. "You two fight better together then I had expected. I was told you were enemies." He said.
"Things happen, I guess. You just have to adjust."
The god smiled, apparently liking my answer.
Without another word, Remleon and I jumped forward, pressuring the god back. I swung forward with my new sword only to be stopped by the gods blade. I scowled and decided not to give in, planting my feet and pushing forward.
"What's this?" Asked the god with our blades locked. I didn't know where Remleon was, but I didn't have time to think as the god pushed back.
I locked eyes with Logus, and I noticed a single drop of sweat drop down his chin. I smirked in the gods face before jumping back.
As soon as I did, I was replaced by Remleon who had come from above, crashing down on the god with only his dagger, but it was enough to surprise him.
Logus barely deflected, but before he could hit back Remleon like he did to me, the wolf swiftly shifted his body and swiped across, slashing the gods cheek.
Before he could react, Remleon landed gracefully before jumping back to my side.
Logus spat out a little blood before smirking.
"Even as a human, your as fast as ever, Remleon. I must say..." the god raised both his blades.
"It is quite unfortunate that I have come across both of you, together. I may have been able to take on one of you, but both?" He laughed. "I just hope this ends up being worth it."
This time, the god rushed us, in our faces in seconds. I felt my eyes widen as my body snapped to life, raising my blade before I could even process it.
I watched as Zoe's silver blade, one that had looked so good when she had first handed me, was cut clean in half by the gods own weapon, the other half flying far behind me.
I was frozen in time, completely shocked.
The god smiled, still in my face. "Stay on your toes, demigod."
Before the god could finish me off with his other blade, Remleon knocked him away with his body, rolling with him for a couple feet.
He immediately got up and the two got to slashing blades, sparks flying throughout the air.
I watched in a daze as my eyes dropped to my hand to see the other half of my sword hanging, looking pathetic.
I nearly broke down right there, but I forced myself to keep going. I was not about to let a dying Remleon fight for me while I watched helplessly.
I steadied my breath as I tried to regain control. I still felt out of it, but I couldn't let that stop me, not after after everything I had been through.
I slowly raised my blade and pointed it at Logus who was still engaged in battle with Remleon.
With a quick prayer, I ran forward, and just before I reached the two I jumped upwards with all my force.
I saw the two fighters pause for a second, both of them looking surprised, but I still advanced. I lost my balance for a second but quickly recovered, landing on Logus with a powerful slash downwards.
The god seemed caught off guard, shooting his hand up quickly to parry my attack, giving Remleon an opening.
Up until this point, I would've thought we had gotten him based of the way he was fighting, but that was not the case as Logus went into over drive, starting to take things seriously.
The god repelled me and Remleon expertly, not showing any signs of letting up. We fought for what seemed like hours, but it couldn't have been more then 10 minutes (of straight fighting, mind you) before Remmy grew tired.
The wolf stepped in close and stabbed his dagger directly in the gods wrist, making his eyes flare up with power.
Before the god could cut Remmy's head off, the boy slyly shot his foot out and hit the god right in his forearm, effectively making him drop his blade which disappeared before it made contact with the floor.
I immediately snapped back into it once I realized what I had to do. With a clear opening, I had a shot at the gods exposed torso, though Remleon himself wasn't too far away from getting stabbed.
I ignored the though but instead committed to attacking the god. I lunged forward with my broken blade, swiping diagonal with all my strength. Broken or not, the point would find its way through the gods skin.
Logus's eyes went wide as he seemed to realize he was against the ropes. I thought I would be able to get a clean hit in before the god raised his hand towards my face, and before I could realize what was happening it started to glow.
The blue haze grew brighter until it took the form of something similar to a ball, one that emitted heat making me feel like I was in a toaster.
My eyes went wide as now I was a second away from death.
"Percy!" Yelled out Remleon to my side, but it was too late.
The god closed down his hand and immediately the ball flew out, hitting me square in my chest.
I could feel the heat burn through my shirt before it even made contact, but when it did it became a hundred times worse. The attack launched me back through the air for literal seconds, making me land roughly, and I immediately new that I had broken something.
Through my blurry vision, I saw Remleon scowl before ripping his blade out the gods hands and rushing back to me, jumping over Logus's attack to stab him in the back.
It was an attack that would've lopped off anyone's head, anyone but Remleon.
He quickly reached me and squatted down, keeping his eyes on Logus.
"Can you walk?" He asked.
I scowled and spat out some blood.
I slowly forced myself up and raised my broken blade yet again, all hesitation gone out the window.
I turned to Remleon.
"I'm fine, just focus on the..." I trailed off as Remleon grabbed my collar and dragged me towards him, taking a step back.
"Eh?" I asked as I barely caught myself. I turned around just in time to see that Logus had launched forward one of his swords toward my head, and I had no doubt that if Remleon didn't grab me, I would've died.
I turned around quickly towards Logus with a single drop of sweat rolling down my cheek. The god met my gaze with squinted eyes.
"I had been hoping to kill you with that attack. Would've made this fight a lot easier." He said darkly.
I scowled at him. "I appreciate that." I said to Remleon before turning to the god.
"Why do you still fight, demigod? Your blade is broken and your companion is on his last legs. I'm sure Phonoi has left you in a near death state as well, so why don't you just give up." He asked.
I shifted a bit uncomfortably, not knowing what the god was getting at.
"Because if I die here, then everything I've worked for was for nothing."
The god only nodded. "As expected. Very well then, if you insist, then I will give you a fight."
With those words, the god lunged forward with the intent to kill, and I was sure that we were done having conversations.
The god jumped upwards and cocked back both his hands, though he only held one sword. Once the god started to descends, he summoned another blue sword and slashed across with both his blade.
I panicked for a second before raising my own broken sword, meeting the god with equal force. I held the being in the air for a second, and before he could retract Remleon came from below and kicked the god back into the air.
Logus did a spin before pointing a blade directly at the wolf. After a second of charging up, a ball of energy formed once again at the tip of the gods weapon.
Remleon squatted down low, and just as the sphere was launched he jumped away. The ball landed in front of me and exploded, charring the carpet below.
I immediately grew wary. After being hit with one of those in close combat, I knew the damage they could cause. If I got hit with one fully charged, I had no doubt that it would be the end.
The god landed once more and met both me and the wolf's gaze. Without a word, we all simultaneously ran forward and met in the middle and a legendary clash immediately ensued.
Me and Remleon fought in tandem, replacing each other when one fell back while attacking in sync, pushing the god to his limits. Even for Logus who wielded two blades expertly, it was a lot to handle.
I had gotten used to dodging the orbs of power, at least I thought I had before I had just jumped back and was met with a blue ball of death as soon as I looked up.
With no other option, I lifted my broken blade up to deflect the object, and though I successfully cut through the magic, the fact that my blade was so small meant I nearly burnt my hand to a crisp in the process.
I nearly dropped my blade, but my anger was enough to help me keep hold. With a push, I jumped forward and tackled the god with all my strength.
As soon as I got up, I started to wail on the god with the hilt of my blade, bloodying his face. The god scowled and spit out gold before he kicked me off and rolled away.
I quickly recovered and raised my blade, just in time to block Logus's attack before I could even see it. I took a step back and faced the god, my blade (the half) raised like a fencer's.
The god was breathing heavily and obviously mad, as his eyes were exploding with blue magical energy.
"I tried to be nice, demigod, but now you must DIE!" He said, finishing in a yell. The god swiped twice, and I was able to block, but he had hit my sword upwards, taking my hand with it and leaving me exposed.
My eyes shot wide open as I started to panicked.
"This...This is how you shall meet your end." Said the god as he he prepared to finish me off. The god swung down, but halfway through the motion, his body sparked up, before going limp.
"What?" He asked with disbelief.
The gods eyes shifted downwards and so did mine, and we both locked onto the point protruding from the left side of his chest.
I heard a growl from behind the god and a sickening squelch as the blade was pushed farther, nearly going completely through the gods chest.
"Bastard." Spat out Remleon as Logus dropped to his knees, and without another word, he fell forward, exploding into dust right before he hit the floor.
I dropped down as well, completely exhausted.
We both went quiet as the roll of battle kicked in. It was after some time when Remleon finally spoke.
"An hour." Said Remleon. "We fought that guy for an hour. Assuming that bird didn't turn on us, I'm sure there still fighting out side."
I sighed.
"What's the point. If we fight those two again, we'll die."
Remleon shrugged before sitting down next to me.
"Probably." He said. "How your injuries looking?"
I mentally flinched. Based off of what I could feel, probably a couple broken bones near my wrist and definitely something fractured in my leg.
"Overall, terrible. The worst though..." I lifted up my tattered black shirt to see that the bandages around my stomach were burnt black, yet they held fast.
"I wouldn't be surprised if my organs are boiling." I said.
Remmy grunted. "You may be to far gone for even Ambrosia."
I nodded. Along with the previously mention injuries, I had multiple deep cuts all around my body. I had no doubt that more of my skin was stained red by now."
"How bout you?" I asked, turning slightly.
"What about me? I'll be fine, as soon as the ambrosia is out my system. As long as I turn back to a Lycanthrope, they'll heal."
I nodded, though I knew that it wasn't as casual as Remleon made it out to be. He had almost died here, the closest he had come in probably ages, or ever. Yet he didn't seem to mind at all.
He really was weird.
I let out a long sigh before forcing myself up.
I looked down at Remleon who was still seated, and shot out my hand.
"Well, there's no point in sitting here and waiting. Let's go, and get out of this hellhole." I said. The wolf nodded and gripped my hand, rising to his feet.
We walked back towards the elevator, and I turned to the wolf.
"Thank you." I said. He raised a brow. "Huh?"
"Thanks for your help." I said, and I honestly meant it. Though me and Remleon had started off as bitter enemies, the wolf had helped me countless times, and I now realized that the wolf was actually the closest thing I had to a friend.
(Note: Focus on the word "closest".)
The wolf smiled, and it looked a little strange on his face, but I couldn't help but smirk back. With the wolf by my side, I walked into the elevator, prepared for whatever hell hole was waiting for me.
Well, there you have it, a fight with Percy and Remmy against one of thr most powerful beings we've seen so far. Let it be know. this was the most difficult fight yet, though I'm a little dissapoimted. I feel like there is something missing, but I don't know what, so whatever.
But yeah, like always, feel free to leave a review.
:)
