Chapter 40
Louisa's point of view
It had been two weeks since Will and I went to the classical concert. The fact that he wanted to tell me something before my sister called me lingered in the back of my mind. The hesitation on his part was confounding considering his broad outlook on life. Well, I did not get enough time to dwell on all this because I was busy maintaining the cleanliness of his grand mansion in Pembroke.
It was about 2:00 pm at noon on Friday. Kate had already cleaned the kitchen and the bathrooms. I was cleaning the floor of the dining room with a big blue mop when the door-bell rang.
Kate wasted no time in answering the door-bell. When she opened the door, my eyes caught the sight of Will entering the house with his grey suit case and black baggage. He was also holding a white envelope which looked some kind of an invitation from the distance where I was sweeping.
Kate carried Will's luggage to his room after shutting the main door with a click while Will sat at the dining table holding that hard white piece of paper in his hands. My eyes drifted to him opening the envelope, bringing a card out of it and studying it with an indecipherable expression for some fleeting moments. I shifted my attention to mopping the floor; shaking my head a little with the intention of sweeping the dining space.
Not a minute had passed until Will said, " My best friend Rupert and my ex-girlfriend are going to get married next Saturday."
I did not know how to react to this piece of information. The only thing that I deemed to be best in the situation was to remain silent on the matter and not say anything.
"I am surprised that I am actually happy for both of them, " he murmured in quite a clear tone which did not go unnoticed by me. Nevertheless, I kept my head down; my hands busy in mopping the floor.
I did not know what I could say to somewhat lighten up things. I was subconsciously racking my brain for ideas. I just wanted him to know that he did not need to get deflated and sometimes things happen for the best. Nothing took place in the world without any solid reason certified by God.
"Are you sure you are okay?" I asked him in a very audible tone after a minute of an internal battle with my mind while mopping the floor.
"Yes."
"Infact, I will go to the wedding," he said with clear resolve written all over his immaculate sculpted face.
"I intend to take you to the wedding with me, " he disclosed; my mouth hanging wide open at this particular revelation. I paused my work and my head shot straight up to look at him with sheer astonishment in my cerulean eyes.
"Why do you look so surprised, Clarke?" he asked me with an impish adorable smile; his stormy blazing eyes crinkling at the corners.
"I barely know them," I admitted; looking at him
"Don't you think it would be weird for you to take someone who does the job of housecleaning in your grand country mansion, " I inquired; lifting both my eyebrows.
"How are you going to introduce me to them?"
"I considered you my friend even before I hired you, " Will replied; the ardent sincerity of his worlds clear in his eyes; this confession washing over me like the steep waves lapping at the shore .
"You will be going there as my friend, " he went on; standing up from the dining table; putting the card back into the envelope.
"Okay, " I mumbled while resuming my work of mopping the floor.
"Good, " he said with a broad grin before whirling his imposing back upon me and striding towards his room.
