Chapter 40: Fenton University

It was a weekend and Danny Fenton and his girlfriend were visiting his parents back in Amity Park. But they first had to fight some ghosts who were in the way. "Good use of your ecto-gun, Alex." Danny commented after placing the ghosts inside the Fenton Thermos and then they went to Fentonworks.

"So, how're things in Malibu?" Jack asked. "Are the life guards there as slowly as that TV series suggests?"

"Things are okay but the life guards move at normal speed, Dad." Danny answered.

"You seem tense." Maddie commented. "Did something happen?"

Alex frowned. "Mandy. She framed my friends and me with stuff that made almost every student furious enough to try to get us expelled. Fortunately, she was caught and expelled and everything is okay now."

"Wow." Jack was upset as well. "I don't blame her for not being able to resist the Fenton charm but that's no excuse when the Fenton man in question already has a girlfriend." He commented.

"Well, that and Mandy wanted to move into the penthouse my friends and I reside, Mr. Fenton." Alex added.

"Danny, your father and I have been thinking about opening our own University." Maddie commented. "If you and Alex still aren't graduated by the time it's open, just think about it. You'll be out of Mandy's reach."

"Actually, her family cut her off, Mom." Danny replied.

"Clover heard some rumors about Mandy becoming a waitress at some third rate cafe outside of Beverly Hills but nobody really knows or cares about what became of her." Alex added.

"Well, if true, find out where it is so we'll never go there." Jazz asked.

"Well, either way, Maddie and I will work on Fenton University, Alex." Jack said. "And don't worry. We'll hire veterinarians so you'll still be able to train to become one."

"I'll think about it." Alex replied.

"That's all we can ask at the moment." Maddie commented.

"Now, about another matter: we made a deal with Proud Snacks!" Jack proudly (pardon the pun) exclaimed.

"Ewwwwww." Alex replied.

"I know, Alex." Jack commented. "Those snacks shouldn't be called 'edible' but, with the right modifications, are an excellent fuel." He said and then turned his attention to Danny. "Think about it, son. The first rocket you fly as an astronaut might be fueled by Proud Snacks."

After that meal, Danny and Alex did some studying and later went to the mall. Upon seeing their ghost hero, people were awed but decided not to bother the couple. Except for one shallow person. "Danny, my ghost boy! Did you come back for me?"

"No, Paulina." Danny answered. "Don't you see I'm here with Alex?"

"Well, you should see me cheering at my college's next football game, Danny." Paulina commented. "Then you'd see I'm better girlfriend material than her."

"May I hit her?" Alex asked Danny with a whisper.

"I'll leave it to your judgement, Alex." Danny whispered back and then returned his attention to Paulina. "Are you the Head Cheerleader?"

"Not yet but they'll give me the title if I get you to show up for a game." Paulina answered. "Won't it be great?"

"No, Paulina." Danny bluntly replied. "Goodbye."

"Wait!" Paulina tried to go after Danny but someone called her. "Sanchez, your break is over! The bathroom won't clean itself."

"Yes, Mikey." She replied to her supervisor, who glared at her. "I mean, Yes, Sir."

As their date advanced, Danny and Alex met more friendly faces. "Tucker, are you also on a break from college?" He asked.

"I wanted to show Velma our hometown and she had no plans, Danny." Tucker explained.

"Is that Velma Dinkley, one of the legendary Meddling Kids?" Alex asked with excitement.

"I'm no longer a kid but yes, I am that Velma Dinkley." Velma said. "Nice to meet you."

"I'm Alex and nice to meet you too, Velma." Alex replied.

Velma then turned her attention to Danny. "And that's the superhero who wants to become an astronaut?" She asked. "See you at NASA."

"Huh?" Danny asked.

"That's what she's studying to work at, Danny." Tucker explained.

"I'm sorry for interrupting the conversation but, don't we have a movie to watch?" Alex asked her boyfriend.

"Right. Sorry." Danny replied as he and his girlfriend left.

Meanwhile, Paulina was complaining about the unfairness of life. "It's not fair that I'm working here while my ghost boy and his loser girlfriend are enjoying a date. He should be my Prince Charming and rescue me from this like I'm Cinderella."

"It's that attitude that got you out of customer service, Sanchez." Mikey commented.

"Yes, Sir." Paulina replied. 'You'll see, loser. Once I'll marry the ghost boy, I'll have him buy this place and fire you. Maybe I'll have you clean up this bathroom and every other in this mall first.'

Two hours later, Danny and Alex were discussing the movie they'd just watched. "You don't seem to be very impressed, Danny." Alex commented.

"Meeting real monsters and aliens changes one's perspective on them, Alex." Danny answered. "Would you rather watch a spy movie next time?"

Alex giggled. "Considering how secretive real spies are, I'd think spy agencies all around the world encourage the artistic licenses employed by whoever writes those movies. They do help making the people who are spied on expect signs a real spy would never display, I suppose."

"True." Danny laughed at Alex's comment. His ghost sense then activated.

"A ghost?" Alex asked as she drew a weapon.

"Yes." Danny replied as he went ghost.

The ghost of deposed King Aragon showed up in front of them. "Phantom, you'll pay for making me lose my throne!" The ghost said.

Danny simply shot a beam at Aragon until the latter was too stunned to resist being sucked into a Thermos. "Good job, Danny." Alex commented.

Tucker and Velma then arrived. "Too late." The techno geek commented.

"It doesn't seem your friend needed our help." Velma replied.

Oblivious to his friend's presence, Danny kept talking to Alex. "So, Nasty Burger?"

"Sure." Alex answered.

One happy meal later, Danny and Alex went back to Fentonworks to pick up her car. "Did you bring more fudge?" Jack eagerly asked.

"What happened to the fudge I've brought you earlier today?" Alex asked.

"I ate it." Jack answered, oblivious to Alex's surprise.

"Already?" Alex couldn't believe someone could eat so much fudge.

"I told you he'd eat it all before we returned to Beverly Hills." Danny reminded Alex with a malicious smile.

Without anything else to say, Danny and Alex left.

End chapter.
