fallendemon248 : I had forgotten about it myself until a few chapters into this story.
thehive1948 : No, not for this version of cluemaster.
The Viking Stranger : First of all that joke was brilliant, pat yourself on the back. Second of all I love that suggestion.
Dark Knight Fan: Yes.
Chapter 41 -
"Oh, look here it is." Thomas grinned.
"Shush." Martha shushed him as she, Alfred, Thomas, Selina and Harry - who had arrived a minute ago - were sat down and watching TV.
"Artie Brown - or 'Cluemaster' as he insists on being called - was discovered in his mother's basement, he along with multiple dwarves – yes, that's right, dwarves - were found unconscious. There were three witnesses that can tell us about what happened, unfortunately these witnesses were also hostages." Vicki Vale said, holding a microphone in her hand. "Darren Ross, Herbert Ziegler and Miss Yelena Kilmanov were abducted by the so called Cluemaster through the group of dwarves that so far seem to have been working for him.
Cluemaster has committed many, many crimes from his home. The only other person who lives there would be his mother, the police have not yet read her medical report but it suspected that she suffers from some mental health disease, most likely Alzheimer's. It is believed that he had these three kidnapped so he could enact revenge. Mr Brown had believed that these three had wronged him and had cost him a win when he competed in a previously popular show known as 'Think, Thank, Thunk'. Mr Ziegler had been the producer of the show, Mr Ross was the host and Miss Kilmanov was the girl that he had lost to. Talk about being a sore loser.
All three hostages were convinced that they would soon be meeting death, only to be rescued by an unexpected saviour: The Batman, Gotham City's personal vigilante."
"Oh, that's you!" Thomas grinned as he whispered to Harry in a proud voice. Harry grinned back but kept silent so they could listen to the TV.
"The Batman has not yet been caught on camera," Vicki Vale continued. "though there have been a few eye witnesses that have seen him, the Batman has been estimated to be between six foot and six foot three, dressed fully in black, wears a cape, completely white eyes and has two pointy things on his head that are either horns or ears. And now we have a word with Miss Yelena Kilmanov, Yelena?"
The screen split, one half showing Vickie Vale and the other half showing Yelena who appeared to be speaking from her laptops web camera based on the angle.
"Hello." She said in a quiet voice.
"Yelena, how are you?" Vicki asked.
"I am...well...shaken." She admitted, her accent easily noticeable. "I truly had believed that I was going to die. I...I saw my life flash in front of my eyes."
"I'm sure it must have been terrifying for you," Vicki said in a sympathetic voice. "reports have so far shown that you, Mr Ross and Mr Ziegler have all had some minor bruises but no serious injuries."
"I cannot speak for them," Yelena replied. "but yes, I've only had a few bruises and scratches."
"Please describe just what had happened." Vicki replied.
"Well," Yelena took a deep breath before she continued speaking. "I was at home, I had ordered a pizza, and suddenly I hear the door. I get up, I go to the door and open it, I cannot see a pizza man. Then the next thing that happens is I get tackled to the ground, I look up and see these dwarf men on top of me, I try to scream but one of them puts something in my mouth. I try to fight back but there is too many, the next thing I know is I wake up in Brown's basement with Mr Ross and Ziegler.
Then Mr Brown walks into the room, he insults us, he insults me, calls us cheaters and liars. I was confused, I was scared. Then he leaves, I don't know how long I am stuck in that room. But once I am out I am put in a room where Mr Brown had made a rather cheap version of the set of 'Think, Thank, Thunk'. He made us ask questions, maths and science questions, he wanted to prove that he was smarter than us. Once we were done he was about to have us killed."
"That's horrifying." Vicki said in a quiet voice.
"Indeed," Yelena replied in a rather blank voice. "and then...he came."
"The Batman?" Vicki asked.
"Yes," Yelena nodded. "he came in, he warned Mr Brown to stop but he didn't listen. Brown attacked the Batman, the next thing I remember is getting pulled across the room and landing in the Batman's arms. He put me down and quickly went to take out Brown and the other dwarves. It was a very...interesting experience." She said, one hand reached up to wipe her eyes when a few tears threatened to escape. "I...I just want to say...thank you, thank you Batman, whoever or wherever you are. Thank you."
"There you have it folks," Vicki said as the screen changed back to only showing Vicki. "here's an important question: 'The Batman', hero or menace? That's entirely up to you to decide for yourselves, but it seems like we have at least one person who is firmly in the 'hero' column. This was Vicki Vale, now back to the studio."
"Our son, the hero." Thomas grinned proudly.
"Hero." Harry repeated, scrunching up his nose slightly. "Yeah...I don't think that works for me. I'm not really a hero."
"I doubt that Miss Kilmanov would agree." Alfred replied.
"It seems like you've got another fan," Selina said in a teasing tone. "should I be jealous?"
"No, but it wouldn't kill you to show a little bit of jealousy." Harry said in an amused voice.
"Cluemaster," He chortled as he read over the newspaper. "that's not a bad name." He said to himself, though he took great care to keep his voice quiet. Sometimes he would end up talking to himself in a voice that was louder than he intended, this would unfortunately result in him getting odd looks from the others. "Nice work, Harry." He whispered, a smile still on his face.
Ever since that 'unfortunate incident; involving the old man, those men with guns and that hammer, he had been able to get another job. He really didn't want to stay near the construction site, especially when he couldn't stop remembering where he had hid the bodies. This new job was slightly better paying than his last but not by much, still...beggars can't be choosers. He was also recently able to mostly avoid his landlady so it seemed to him that things were starting to look up.
Still, he did hope that Harry would never find out about those men that he had killed. It's not like he had done it for the fun of it, it wasn't even his fault, it was self-defence. Surely Harry would understand, it's not like Harry had never killed anyone before. He wasn't sure how many people Harry had killed, but it did know that Harry had killed at least one person. He wondered how many he would kill while he's being 'Batman'. He thought it was inevitable that Harry would have to kill someone sooner or later, his scary 'demon of the night' routine would work great against normal criminals but sooner or later he would meet someone who wouldn't stop just because Harry looked a little scary.
"Oi, new boy." A voice called, bringing him out of his thoughts. He looked up and saw his manager looking down at him. "New boy, you've got five minutes left of your break, you come straight back in the second it's finished. Got it?" His manager asked.
"Yes sir." He nodded quickly, he was doing his best to be a model employee, the last thing he needed right now was for something else to go wrong. His manager grunted before turning away and walking off.
"Hmm, I wonder if Harry is having better luck than I am, right now." He said to himself. "Hmm...probably." He shrugged before turning back to his newspaper. "Cluemaster." He snorted with amusement when he read that name for a second time. "What the fuck's next? The Teacher? The Riddler?" He let out an amused snort.
"It's a shame that Miss Haywood had to reschedule," Selina said to Harry as the two were sat together in a casino, the two had simply decided to have a night out - since Harry apparently needed to take a break from his 'after hour activities' according to everyone else in his house - and stumbled upon a relatively new casino. Harry - who had actually never been to one in either of his lives (not counting when he had gone to kill people who would be hanging out in casinos) - decided it'd be fun to try out. So far the two had had played a couple of games, Harry had lost some money but did thankfully gain more than he lost. "did she say why?" Selina asked.
"Apparently she had some family issues that she needed to deal with," Harry shrugged. "it's not like I'm going to get angry about that. I'm rich, that doesn't mean that I'm a spoilt brat who is going to throw a tantrum every time something doesn't go my way."
"Thankfully." Selina snorted before she looked around. "Speaking of rich.." She trailed off as her gaze stopped when she saw a rather fat looking man at the other side of the casino. He was wearing an expensive looking suit, black sunglasses despite being indoors at night, had a gold earring in one ear and had slicked back black hair. "...how much do you want to bet I can steal his watch?" Selina whispered to Harry who looked at the direction where she was looking and the man that she was looking at, the man was laughing loudly and had one hand holding a beer bottle while his other arm was wrapped around the waist of a rather beautiful looking woman, that arm had a fairly expensive looking gold watch on it.
"Please," Harry snorted. "I could have stolen that when I was twelve, heck probably even when I was ten. As a matter of fact, you at the same age probably could do it as well."
"Hey, why on Earth did you have to say 'probably'?" Selina said, giving him a mock glare.
"Do forgive me, my lady. I did not mean to offend you," Harry said in a dramatic but quiet enough voice. "you truly are the best thief in Gotham, my lady. For you have stolen what no other person has ever been able to steal: my heart." He finished with a grin.
"That..." Selina paused as she wrinkled her nose. "...was really cheesy, kind of cringey as well."
"Kind of?" Harry repeated as he raised an eyebrow.
"Okay, very cringey." Selina admitted.
"Sorry," Harry said with a small shrug. "not all of my lines are winners."
"Oh sweetie, that wasn't even a bronze medal." Selina replied with a small head shake.
"Excuse me," A pretty blonde girl in a red dress said as she walked up to Harry. "you're Harry Wayne, aren't you?" She whispered in an excited voice.
"Yes." Harry said, barely holding back a sigh.
"I'm a big fan," She said with a wide grin. "would you perhaps like to come and hang out with me and my friends?" She offered before she gestured to a group of pretty girls, girls that were standing with the rich looking fat man from earlier.
"No, thank you." Harry politely refused.
"Are you sure?" The girl said with a small pout. "We can make it worth your while." She added, smirking slightly, her voice had a slightly seductive note.
"Quite tempting," Harry said in a dry voice before he gestured to Selina. "but I am here with my girlfriend."
"Oh..." The girl blinked. "...are you sure?"
"That she's my girlfriend?" Harry asked in a mock-confused voice. "Quite sure."
"No, I meant about not coming over. Because we could..."
"Excuse me, sweetie," Selina spoke up. "I don't know who you are, so I won't be too offensive or rude. But I will make something quite clear, green-eyes over here is mine, so if you have nothing else to say then you should listen to the only thing I really have to say to you: long pier and short walk, bitch." Selina said before she gestured her to go.
The girl glared at Selina before she looked at Harry, he leaned back into his chair but did not say anything more, making it clear that she was not going to get any support from him. She huffed and shot one last glare at Selina before walking off.
"Your shoes are cheap too." Selina called out, the girl stopped briefly before she continued to walk off.
"Can I be honest with you for a second?" Harry asked but then continued speaking before she could even respond. "Possessive and territorial Selina is a bit of a turn on."
"A bit?" Selina raised an eyebrow at him.
"Okay, a lot." Harry admitted without any shame or compunction.
"I can see that, you look half-hard." Selina said in an amused voice as she looked down at Harry's lap.
"Well...that's sort of because an image of you in a tight leather outfit with a whip came into my head." Harry said in a voice that bordered on apologetic.
"You're a sick man." She said with a small laugh.
"Yep." Harry nodded, not really bothering to deny that.
"No!" A loud voice interrupted any further conversation, the two turned to look in the direction of the fat man from before and saw him glaring at the man who was standing in front of him. "I told you, I want nothing to do with you!"
"Well, that is quite a shame, because I still have plenty I want from you." The new man replied, Harry and Selina couldn't see him from the front since he was facing away from them but from what they could see they saw that he was dressed in black boots, green suit-trousers and a green jacket with the hood up. In his right hand he held a golden-topped black cane, the top of this cane was stylized as a question mark, though the inside of it looked sharp enough to cut through human flesh.
"Just leave!" The fat man yelled.
"I will," The new man replied. "but first..." He paused as the doors of the casino burst open and several men armed with guns rushed in. "...riddle me this."
A.N: Yeah, I think even casual DC fans and even non-DC fans should be able to work out who this latest guy is, but if not then don't worry because it'll be made clear in the next chapter. A few people have asked me about Selina, I want to say that I do in fact have a plan for her, the only thing I'm not sure of is if it's a good plan or not. I suppose we'll have to wait and see.
Also I want to thank everyone for their support, especially any patrons that may be reading this. I'm currently working on another story (a few actually but I'm speaking about a specific one) called Dark Lord Potter, that will end soon (hopefully), in that story Harry's in his third year of Hogwarts and the story will end somewhere between his fourth and fifth year. My plan for after that story is done is to hold a vote on patron for my next story, a few examples of options that will be available are:
1) HP/Avatar the last Airbender cross over (the one I'm hoping people will pick, I'd do better than the film)
2) Batman/Avengers crossover or God of war/Avengers crossover
3) HP/Spiderman crossover
4) HP/God of war crossover.
5) A story where Harry's a vampire
6) A 'Harry meets the girl-who-lived' story
Those are a few examples that will eventually be available during the vote, after the vote the chosen story will be released early on patron before being uploaded on here. One of my other stories (Widow's Vengenance) is being relased early on patron before being uploaded on this site. I also have more rewards that I plan to start giving out once I actually manage to sort out the chaos that is my life, but that's all I've got so far. If anyone wants to become a patron then just go on the website and search up 'JB21Q', remember that just a little bit of money every month can save an anti-social and mostly useless author from starvation, we at the JB21 charity organisation do beg of you to support if you can.
And if you cannot then it's fine, you'll still get the same reading content as everyone else...you'll just be evil and condemned to the lowest pits of hell for all eternity.
(I should point out that I am joking and I love you all even if you don't donate, also I don't own anything from HP or DC - I'd be lying in beds made of cash if I did - and I unfortuantly do not yet have the ability to condemn someone to hell, key word being 'yet'.)
Thanks for reading, feel free to leave a review.
