It had been six months since Hydra had come out of the shadows and infiltrated Shield. It turned out there were more Hydra agents than anyone saw coming, which led to Coulson's team having to retreat to a safe house. They had smaller operations still occurring with what little agents they had left, they were doing anything they could to slow down Hydra, but ultimately they had to lay low. Within the last six months, May and Coulson no longer had a reason to resist the obvious chemistry between them, so when Melinda took a pregnancy test and it came back positive, no one was surprised.
Coulson, of course, was over the moon when he found out they were expecting a little girl. For the next nine months the team began to prepare for the arrival of their newest member. Fitz and Trip began to set up the nursery while May and Simmons prepared for the actual delivery. Ward prepared security precautions (with Fitz's help) around the house and Coulson did anything and everything he could think of to prepare, all while trying to get Shield up and running. Before they knew it the day came when Skylar May Coulson made her presence in the world. Everyone immediately fell in love with the brown eyed bundle of joy.
Two years later little had changed. Hydra had once again risen from the ashes and unfortunately, it was not looking good for the Shield team. Although they were still involved with Shield, their daughter's happiness was Phil and Melinda's main priority. Skye was growing fast, too fast in Coulson's opinion, and she always made the agents smile after a hard day.
"Daddy!" Skye let out a happy giggle and ran across the living room to her father's open arms. It had been a long day at Headquarters dealing with the rising Hydra threat, being Director took up a lot of time. Phil had been at HQ since 7 a.m. that morning, and was dying to snuggle his baby girl.
"Hey there Angel Eyes." He cuddled his baby close and laughed when she asked for "Jem and Fiz."
"They'll be home much later, Pumpkin. Now, what should we make for dinner?" Although the young geniuses had bunks at Headquarters, they preferred to spend most nights at the safe house with the little adored the young scientists almost as much as they adored her, and was often found getting into trouble with them.
The two made their way to the kitchen where May was sitting at the counter going over an operation for the next day. Coulson walked over and was welcomed with a kiss before he started in the kitchen with Skye on his hip "helping."
Phil loved moments like this, where he could pretend everything was right in this world. Tomorrow, everything could change between Shield and Hydra, but for now he could just focus on cooking for his unconventional family and the sound of his little girl's laughter.
It had been two years since the fall of Hydra, and therefore the rise of Shield. Most of the team had moved from the safe house to headquarters. May and Coulson bought a little house twenty-minutes from the base where they could raise their daughter, but still be close to the base.
"Mama! Daddy! Guess what Uncle Fitz got me!" Skye jumped out of the black SUV and bounded across the yard over to her parents. She held up a little monkey stuffed animal. "His name is Iain! Isn't he soooo cute?"
The couple chuckled at their little girl's antics. She had grown up in odd circumstances, but always managed to bring a smile to everyone in the room. Through the last few years recruitment had gone well. They added several more agents to their family and they all adored Skye. They allowed her on the base every once in a while, and she looked up to all the agents on base.
"Auntie Jemma did a science espearment-"
"Experiment." Coulson corrected with a chuckle.
"Daddy, that's what I said! She did a espearment with me and it was so cool and Uncle Mack made me mac n' cheese and then Yoyo showed me more ninja skills! I'm gonna be just like you Mommy! I'm gonna kick a-"
"Don't you dare finish that sentence." May said sternly, but couldn't help the smile that graced her features. Skye giggled as Coulson scooped her up and smothered her with kisses.
"You'll be the greatest agent of us all, Angel Eyes."
Of course the little family had quite the adventure ahead of them, but they also had their Shield family to look after them. The past four years were completely unexpected, but the outcome was greater than any of them could imagine. Hydra was defeated and the world was in good hands.
