CHAPTER 42
Caroline got home from Klaus' house and collapsed on top of her bed. She didn't know what to think of her night and morning with Klaus. She was glad she knew what she had missed but it wasn't like it made her trust him or his family. Before she got too wrapped up in her thoughts her phone beeped with a new message.
'We should go shopping this afternoon for the Christmas Ball.'
Caroline sighed. The whole loosing two months was really messing with her sense of time. She couldn't believe it was almost time for the annual town Christmas ball! She wasn't really in the mood to go shopping but she did need to find a dress for the party. She sent Elena a quick message back.
'I will meet you at your house in an hour.'
Once Caroline had showered and dressed into some new clothes she picked up her phone and saw she had a new message from Klaus.
'Thank you, for allowing me to show you our story. I hope that it made you a little less nervous about remembering.'
Caroline had no idea what to respond with so she didn't. She tossed her phone in her purse and headed towards her front door. There was a loud bang on the door so Caroline was about to walk quicker to answer it until she hear a voice.
"Caroline!" He called out and banged even louder.
It was Tyler. Klaus' memories of Tyler biting her played in her head and she couldn't catch her breath. She ran into her small bathroom and turned on the faucet so Tyler wouldn't hear her. Without even thinking she pulled her phone out and clicked on Klaus' name.
Klaus answered on the first ring. "Sweetheart. To what do I owe the pleasure of being able to hear your beautiful voice?"
"Klaus…" Caroline said.
Klaus could hear the terror in her voice. "What's wrong?" He asked more serious than before.
"Tyler is here…outside my front door."
"Listen to me, Love. Don't open the door, I am on my way."
Caroline did as he said even though she knew that if Tyler wanted in all he had to do was walk in since he had already been invited in. A few seconds past then she heard Klaus outside.
"What are you doing here?" Klaus asked.
"That is none of your business." Tyler said before knocking again. "Caroline, I know you are in there!"
"It would be wise of you to leave." Klaus said with a smile.
"This has nothing to do with you." Tyler said as he turned around. "I heard she hated you now so why are you even hanging around here." He turned back around to the door and Caroline was standing in the doorway with her arms crossed over her chest.
"First of all Tyler, I don't hate him." Caroline said.
Klaus smiled at her words. He really enjoyed that fact that she didn't hate him and he enjoyed that she wasn't ashamed to let everyone know it even more.
"Second I have nothing to say to you." Caroline continued. "I may not remember everything. But I know you bit me!"
"Caroline…"
Caroline held up her hand. "Just stop, Tyler. I have things to do and standing here arguing with you is not one of them."
"You heard the lady." Klaus said as he walked up the stairs of Caroline's porch.
Caroline was thankful that Klaus seemed to be remaining calm, maybe there really was another side of him.
Tyler sighed and looked back over to Caroline. "This isn't over. We need to talk at some point." After staring at Caroline for another moment he looked over at Klaus and was then gone.
Caroline let out a small breath. "Thank you. I'm sorry I bothered…"
"Stop." Klaus said holding up his hand. "I am glad you called. If he comes back please call me again." He paused. He seemed almost…nervous. "I don't supposed I can convince you to take a walk with me?"
"I am actually on my way over to Elena's. We are going shopping for dresses for the Christmas Ball."
Klaus was disappointed but relieved she didn't just say no. "Very well. Have a nice time." He said with a small smile before turning to leave.
Caroline, Elena, and Bonnie walked into the dress shop and began looking through the racks and racks of dresses.
"So what color are you thinking?" Elena asked.
"Green." Caroline said simply. "It's one of the few colors I haven't worn to events this year."
Elena stopped browsing through the dresses and her and Bonnie looked at Caroline. "What!" Elena said. "You remember?!"
"Not exactly." Caroline said as she continued to brows. "Klaus showed me."
"What do you mean he showed you?" Bonnie asked with a hint of worry in her voice.
"Did you let him in your mind?!" Elena yelled in he middle of the store.
Caroline finally stopped looking through the dresses and turned to look at Elena. "Yes." She said shrugging her shoulders.
"Caroline that is extremely dangerous. Who knows what he showed you."
"It's not like it made me trust him." She said looking back at the rack of dresses. "Besides if he was going to make up things I am pretty sure he would have left out the fight we had."
"I still think it was a bad idea." Elena said as she went back to looking at the dresses.
After a few hours of searching and trying on dresses Caroline finally settled on a beautiful green off the shoulder mermaid dress with rhinestones all over it. Bonnie chose a silver v-neck dress with rhinestones covering the top. Elena picked out a low v-neck sparkly red dress.
Caroline got home and immediately hung her dress up on her closet door. She loved the dress and was actually excited for the party…even if she didn't have a date. She changed into a pair of black pajama shorts and a white tank top before getting into bed. As soon as her head hit the pillow she started thinking about Klaus and all the memories he had shared with her. If everything he showed her was true he must be feeling pretty awful since she lost her memory. She grabbed her phone; again without really thinking, and opened up her message with Klaus.
'Will you go for a walk with me tomorrow?'
Klaus re read the message at least seven times. He could not believe she was asking to spend more time with him. Without wasting another second he responded.
'Absolutely, Love. When can I pick you up?'
'I would actually like to watch the sun rise. Is that too early.'
Klaus laughed when reading her message. She could have said 3 AM and he wouldn't have hesitated to say yes.
'That is perfect, Love.'
