Violet's Pov
You know what the best thing in the world was? Waking up with my loving girlfriend on a Saturday morning. And guess what? Today was one of those days.
My eyes flutter open to the blinding light coming in from the window on the far side of the room. I try to ignore it, however, and I cuddle in closer to my girlfriend's side as I bury my face under the blanket. I'm not ready to get up as a yawn escapes me.
But a pounding on Clem's door disrupts my attempt at going back to sleep. I know who that is.
"Clem! Violet! Time to get up!" AJ yells from the other side of the door.
AJ knows he's not allowed to open the door and come in without Clem's permission, but that doesn't mean he'll let us sleep in. I think he must be extra excited this morning because it finally snowed last night.
I feel Clem stir next to me, followed by her voice. "Alright, we'll be down in a few."
"Can't you come out now?" AJ pleads.
"AJ?!" Clem scolds in a warning tone.
"Sorry, Clem." He quickly apologizes.
Then we hear Lee's voice. "AJ leave the girls alone. Why don't you come help me make breakfast?"
AJ seems to forget all about us and happily leaves with Lee. That's when I feel Clem flop back down on her pillow with a long sigh. I can tell she's relieved that Lee stepped in to distract AJ.
I take the moment to cuddle in closer and I feel Clem's arm wrap around me. "Morning beautiful." She says to me.
I giggle at her nickname for me and I grab my phone from off the bedside table. "You're the one who's beautiful."
Clementine reads what I wrote and gasps. "Violet I am not."
I giggle again and sign back, "You are too."
Clem pouts at this. "I am not. Have you seen me? I just woke up. I don't even have on any makeup!"
I giggle at her. "You say it like it's a bad thing."
"It is! My hair's a mess and I'm in a pair of sweats." Clem argues back.
I only continue to smile at her. "You look gorgeous in anything Clem. Especially when you first wake up."
"How can you say that Vi?!"
"You say it like it's a bad thing, baby. But that's my favorite you. You tell me you're a hot mess but you're the best thing my eyes have ever seen." I type out.
I can tell I'm getting to her as I see her cheeks start to turn a slight pink. So I lean in and kiss the tip of her nose. I giggle and I can now see a full blush spread across Clem's face.
"I love the nights when you ain't put together well. When we're up all night long on the phone. When your hair's a mess, you're in a pair of sweats, and you're just feeling lazy. You say it like it's a bad thing, but that's my favorite you. If we're on the same page, maybe, we can just lay low in a do-nothing kind of mood. You tell me you're a hot mess, but you're the best thing my eyes have ever seen."
"I...I..."
I can tell Clem is speechless and at a loss for words. She looked so cute with the slight blush across her face.
"I love you, beautiful." I sign to her. And I make a heart with my hands at the end.
"Oh my god, Vi," Clem says trying to hide her face in her pillow. She's at a loss for words with how embarrassed she is and it's incredibly adorable.
I smile confidently at her knowing I had the upper hand. And I place a kiss on her lips. Clem's ears are bright red down to her face. It was so cute when she would get flustered like this, I can't even explain it. Clem was usually the confident one, so to see her like this was a rare treat for me.
"You need to stop before I die of embarrassment." Clem shakes her head.
That's when I go in for the kill. "That's my girl." I type out.
"Viiiiii..." Clem whines.
"Gotcha." I type. "You're my perfect girl." And I kiss her nose one last time.
Clem lets out a little squeak and buries her head in her pillow. I giggle at her and mouth out the words, "I love you."
"I...love you too." She barely gets out.
I smile and place a kiss to her cheek. I loved hearing that. Then I go and cuddle up to her.
"Oh no, you don't," Clem tells me with a smile on her face. "I'm not letting you get away with that after what you just did." And she sits up.
The little kid in me comes out and I stick my tongue out at her in protest.
"Oh yeah," Clem says with a smirk.
Uh oh. I knew that look. But it was too late as I try to make an escape towards the door. Clem reaches out and traps me in a fit of laughter as she tickles me.
I try to mouth out the words for her to stop, but I'm defenseless against her tickling."What's that Vi? I can't hear you." Clem teases me.
I'm gasping for air by the time she lets up and I have tears in my eyes. I wipe my eyes and I can see Clem smiling at me. She's being very cocky for someone who was just a blushing mess.
"That's what you get when you mess with me." She tells me.
I roll my eyes and sign something to her. "Whatever you say beautiful." She blushes again and I wink at her. "Gotcha."
I push her over and then lean over her before placing a slow kiss to her lips. And I know I have her approval when she smiles into the kiss. "Alright, you win this time." She says after we pull apart.
I smile confidently, proud of myself for coming out on top. That's when we hear another knock at the door again. It was AJ for the second time this morning. "Hey, you guys it's time to get up! Breakfast is ready!"
"Alright, best to not keep him waiting anymore," Clem says as she rises from bed and stretches. "Let's go flower."
I happily follow her out of the room and downstairs to the kitchen for breakfast.
—
After breakfast, we ended up outside. AJ wanted us to play in the snow with him. It wasn't much, just a couple of inches. But it was enough to keep him happy.
I wasn't feeling the snow though, like it was a bad thing or something. I mean I liked it. It was beautiful to look at with how it sparkled in the sunshine. But it was the cold that I didn't like. Why should I freeze outside when I could be inside, warm and cuddling with my girlfriend.
But I couldn't help the smile that formed at seeing Clem playing outside in the snow. I was seated on the porch in my winter jacket as I watched Clem and AJ in the front yard. I watched as Clem took a handful of snow and threw it in the air and laughed as it came down around her and stuck to her baseball cap. Then I saw her take a handful of snow and throw it at AJ.
"Hey!" AJ giggled out as the snow hit his chest. Then he picked up some snow and threw it back hitting Clem in the side.
I was too lost in thought to be prepared for what happened next. "Think fast Vi!" And a snowball hit me in the face.
It didn't hurt. But it was a huge, and cold, shock to my system. I gasped and shot up from my seat on the porch. I shook the snow from my coat and glared at Clem who was trying to hide a giggle from me. It was on now. And I picked up some snow and threw it at Clem, hitting her in the shoulder. She only laughed some more as I became part of their snowball fight.
Clem struck back but I managed to dodge her throw. I quickly made another snowball and threw it at her hitting my target. "Yeah, get her Violet!" AJ cheered as he threw some snow in Clem's direction.
But I smirked as an idea came to me and I threw a snowball at AJ this time. "Hey!" he yelled out as he threw one back at me, giggling as he did so.
Soon all three of us were in a heated snowball fight. I completely forgot about the cold, my body heating up with adrenaline and the fun I was having. I can't count how many times I got hit, but I didn't care. I was having fun. I just wished that the rest of our friends could be here right now playing with us.
We'd all have to get together once it snows more and have an all-out snowball war. I remember playing Hide n' Survive in the winter and using snowballs as our ammunition to fight the walkers and bad guys. We needed to play it again sometime soon.
We played out in the snow for a couple of hours, then came inside dripping wet and covered in snow. We took off our outside gear and left it by the door to dry. Luckily while we were outside Lee had made some hot chocolate for us for when we came in.
Now I sat on the couch with Clem next to me, sipping on hot chocolate from a Christmas mug, all cuddled up in a blanket. The Everett's Christmas tree hung in the corner of the living room, all decorated in colorful lights and different ornaments. Lee had a fire going as well, giving the room a nice glow to it.
I leaned against Clem as we cuddled under the warm blanket. I took a sip of my hot chocolate and relished its warm chocolatey taste.
I felt Clem rest her chin on top of my head and she gave a sigh of contentment. "Can you believe it's only three days left until Christmas?"
I shook my head. No, I couldn't. Was it really that close? I've been so wrapped up in everything I haven't had time to even think about the fast-approaching holiday. More importantly, what was I gonna get Clem for Christmas?
I decided not to panic over that right now and just enjoy the moment I was in. Instead, I finished off my hot chocolate and set it aside on the coffee table. Then I cuddled in closer to my girlfriend, wrapping the blanket around both of us. I silently sighed in contentment. This was my favorite place in the world to be. Finding myself getting lost in young love here with her.
I felt Clem start to run her fingers through my hair and I let my eyes fall shut. It was such a relaxing feeling I could have fallen asleep right then and there. Just listening to the quiet crackle and pop of the fire and the sound of my girlfriend's heartbeat. But a few words from Clem kept me up. "I love you, Violet. You're the best Christmas gift I could ask for."
I didn't even realize the words that fell from my lips as I drifted off to sleep. "And you're mine."
