Chapter 43
Hands on my neck, foot on my back I could make it alone, I got all that I need to survive Through the sweat and the blood, I know what I'm made of
Sara
Sara took a deep breath, trying to gather her thoughts in order to explain them to Ollie in a sensible way. She was trying to protect Mila, they both were. Keeping the negativity and violence that came with everything Green Arrow related away from her. They had stopped talking about that part of Ollie's life a while back, once Mila had developed enough to hear sound outside of her mother's body.
And it was still a choice she firmly believed in.
But her need to shield her daughter from the dark side of the world and the harsh reality of life for as long as she could was in direct contrast to her need to know the specific dangers Ollie was currently facing. Not knowing what Ollie was up against gave her anxiety of the worst kind, and that wasn't good for Mila either.
It was a lose-lose situation.
But Sara was almost certain that her anxiety was worse for her daughter because it could lead to lasting effects and consequences for her, which she might carry with her for the rest of her life. This was something she wanted to avoid at all costs. There was nothing that scared her more than the thought of her being responsible for mental health issues Mila might end up having. The thought of her daughter having to deal with the same struggles Ollie and she were facing on a daily basis was scaring her to death and paralyzing. The last thing she'd ever want was for her daughter to experience the mental hell her parents did.
It was why she was trying so hard to get better, to be fine, to not let herself be swallowed by her demons. She was trying so hard to keep the negative thoughts away, to focus on the positive which had been a lot less difficult the last couple of days. Just being with Ollie with no outside influences had done wonders to her mental health, but now that they let reality back in it was becoming harder again, especially with Ollie's current struggles.
Because Ollie struggling meant that he was not in a position to take care of her, to be as considerate and attentive to her as he usually was, and that was fine. She got that, and she didn't expect him to take care of her all the time. She didn't need him to. They took care of each other, they always had.
They were equals in their relationship.
But it wasn't making focusing on the bright side easier. It wasn't helping in keeping her anxiety away. So she needed to know what was going on. She needed to know the greater picture of what Team Arrow was dealing with in order to at least be able to keep her anxiety in check and not let it spiral out of control, as it had the previous night. Still she didn't feel comfortable talking GA business in front of their daughter, it wasn't right. Their innocent baby girl should not be exposed to that darkness, to the violence, the pain and the horrors.
She hadn't needed to know what was going on before last night, because Ollie had always let her know whether or not he was coming home. Texted her throughout the night, even knowing she was probably asleep, just to make sure she'd see his texts and know he was alright should she wake up, which she did regularly thanks to Mila resting on her bladder.
They didn't want for that darkness to touch their little miracle, their light.
She forced her thoughts back to the matter at hand, to the conversation she had started. A conversation they needed to have. It was important Ollie understood how she was feeling in order to understand where she was coming from and why she had behaved the way she had when he had come home the previous night.
Communication was key.
Talking about their feelings was not something either of them was comfortable doing, but there was no choice, not if they wanted their marriage to work, to be the best versions of themselves they could be, and their daughter deserved nothing less. The best version of themselves wasn't good enough when it came to what Mila would deserve, but it was all they could give her, all they could do.
It was all they got.
They needed to do better to avoid misunderstandings like the one that had eventually led to them getting married; it wasn't like they could renew their vows every time they misread the situation because they refused to talk about their feelings and take the time to share their thoughts.
Yes, they knew each other inside out.
She could read him like an open children's book, but that didn't necessarily mean there weren't going to be misunderstandings if they simply assumed they knew the other's reasons, obviously. It had nearly backfired not a week ago and almost led to irreparable damage and lasting consequences that would've come with a choice neither of them had actually wanted to make.
They had nearly ended up doing the exact opposite of what they actually wanted.
Simply because there had been a lot of issues that had piled up over the last twenty years that they had never actually talked about. So it had been very easy to make assumptions. The fact that they did know each other as well as they did coupled with the pile of unsolved issues had led to both thinking they knew what the other was thinking and how they were going to react and reading in too much between the lines.
They had suddenly been back on the carousel that they had been on for more than two years, starting from the very first moment of their affair. Never talking about what was going on between them and addressing their feelings towards each other. And what it was that they had and what their involvement meant in the long run. It had been an unspoken rule of their affair. Never talk about feelings, never talk about us in reference of an actual relationship or the future, never acknowledge that it's about more than sex. At least until Ollie had brought up the Gambit. Not that they had talked about their feelings then or the consequences that move would bring with it. But they had both been aware her joining him on a trip for several weeks would change everything. That there was no going back after that. Even so, they had never talked about it. Denied the severity of that choice for as long as possible even.
"Laurel's going to kill me, she's so going to kill me."
"Your sister will never know."
Ollie Jonas Queen, the king of denial. God, they had been so young, naïve and stupid back then. Avoid the consequences of your actions at all costs if possible might as well have been their motto pre-Gambit. They hadn't talked about their feelings back then because of the ramification, the backlash that would have come with them admitting how they felt coupled with letting the world know was too much, too scary, too fucking real. So they had avoided it. Until they no longer could. And even then… round and round we go… even now, a good ten years later, they still had the tendency to fall back into the same old pattern.
Their lack of communication had led to them imploding and nearly destroying everything they had, everything they had ever wanted. They had almost burned down their home because they hadn't taken the time to sit down and talk about their issues and feelings. It had been fine when it had been just the two of them, they always ended up circling back and finding each other again, eventually. But they could no longer afford to play that game, they needed to get off that carousel for good. Because it wasn't just Ollie and Sara anymore. It was Ollie and Sara and Mila. Mila who deserved to have parents that actually talked about and solved their problems and tried to do better.
So, open and honest communication was key.
"Look, Ollie, I don't need to know every last detail of what is going on. But I just need to know the gist of it. I need to know what you're up against, I need to be able to paint an accurate picture of the danger you're facing. And I need someone to just keep me updated, not in detail. Just a simple "Ollie donned his suit" and the occasional "everyone's still alive" would suffice. But I can't not know. I can't sit here all-night worrying. Wondering if you're out there fighting in your leathers or if you're somewhere hidden away all by yourself battling in your mind. I need to know what you're facing so I know the danger you're in and whether I can help you. Not knowing is worse. Please. I know we agreed to keep Mila out of that part of our lives and protect her from it for as long as we can, and I still want that, but I need to know. I can't not know. It stresses me out too much. And that in turn isn't good for Mila either. It might even be worse." Ollie looked at her intensely for a long time, studying her and mulling her words over while he absentmindedly rubbed the back of her hand in soothing circles with his thumb. He appeared to be deep in thought for long minutes and she wondered whether he was going to reply at all or he needed more time to think it over and they'd get back to it at a later date, when he suddenly spoke.
"There has been this… there has been another archer in town for a couple of weeks now, at least as far as we know. He goes by Prometheus. He has been killing people, and the police and media have blamed me for some of the deaths. It looks like he might be using some of my old arrow heads. Felicity got a lead on him yesterday after I left Laurel's and… I've been trying to… it was a bust, again, he always seems to be at least two steps ahead of us, but I got another lead on the Ghosts instead, that I ended up checking out. I think Prometheus might… that there might be a connection between the Ghosts and Prometheus which would again bring us back to H.I.V.E. and that in turn to Ruvé Adams. But so far, we couldn't find anything actually linking them together. No trails. There's no proof of anything yet. At least nothing solid. But I just have this feeling in my gut that there is more to all of this. That we're missing something big. That having the Ghosts go underground after Damien's death and Ruvé's win as mayor is no coincidence, but a planned move. Just like having another archer show up shortly after I donned my suit again, seems way too calculated to be pure coincidence. It almost feels like a game of chess. Only we're playing blindfolded with our hands tied behind our backs and never know what move she's going to make or which pieces are still on the board. Or if I'm being completely honest, we're not even sure it is chess we're playing. It could be Hide and Seek, or shit, even Monopoly or UNO for all I know. Because honestly, we still don't know shit. But I'm sure she's planning something, maybe even trying to finish whatever Damien had started." Ollie took his time explaining what had been going on in their city for the last couple of months. Pausing every now and then to gather his thoughts. He sounded frustrated and exhausted.
His reply took her by surprise. She had not expected him to just start explaining things to her. Not that she minded or complained. She had just assumed they would talk about it a little longer before coming up with a solution. It looked like Ollie had come up with it within minutes. Maybe he had come to the same conclusion as her, that communication was key for a healthy relationship.
She listened to him carefully and had to agree with his conclusions. There were too many clues for it to be random or a coincidence. Something was up, and what he told her was suspicious.
If Ruvé was in fact trying to finish Darhk's work, the question was what had been his goal? What had been his endgame? Darhk was more dangerous than Ra's had been. Ra's goal had been to reach perfect environmental balance. That was what the League had been created for. To make sure humanity would not destroy the world. Keeping the balance between all beings on earth. Ra's and the League's goal had been for the greater good. Whether or not one agreed with their methods was another issue. But the League had been neither good nor evil. It took no sides. That had been the point.
Damien's goals were purely selfish. It was the reason Ra's had gained control over the League while Damien had been cast out. He had been a power-hungry psychopath... the possibilities of what his plan could've been were endless and one scarier than the other.
She hadn't known about the other archer; she had avoided the news too. Trying to provide Mila with a negativity free environment, as well as she could given her mental health struggles. But that had been all the more reason for her to try and keep the negativity from the outside world away from them both.
"Thank you. And I agree with you. It can't be a coincidence. There is too much that adds up to all of it being connected in one way or another." She had taken hold of his other hand and laced it with her own in a quiet show of thanks and support. She was sure there was more he hadn't told her yet. He still looked bothered and as if he had something else on his mind. She didn't have to wait long before he went on with his explanation of what exactly had been going on in the Green Arrow's world.
"And then there's the issue of other vigilantes that have shown up during the time we were away, amateurs. I don't know why Dig, Felicity, Laurel and Thea haven't taken care of them yet. I'm trying to get them off the streets before they hurt themselves or get someone killed, but the Team disagrees with me and wants me to actually consider recruiting them." Ollie sounded both annoyed, incredulous and exhausted at the same time. Which gave her the impression that this was an ongoing argument he had engaged in several times over the last couple of months.
Sara felt horrible for making him feel like he couldn't share the struggles he was dealing with that came with rejoining Team Arrow with her. And she couldn't believe that the rest of his team would just recruit strangers simply because they were acting as vigilantes.
It made no sense and was very dangerous.
You never knew who was under the mask and what their reasons for going out every night were. Not to forget the power they would put into strangers' hands telling them who the Green Arrow, Spartan, Speedy and Black Canary are. That was knowledge that would turn deadly not just for the team but for everyone they cared about if it came into the wrong hands and possibly be spread out to the public.
Ollie wouldn't share his secret with just anyone under normal circumstances. What made them believe he would do it now that it would put his unborn daughter in danger? Seriously, did they even know him at all?
"That is one of the stupidest ideas I have ever heard. You trained Roy for months before you ever revealed your identity to him and for good reason, and it paid off. You can't find anyone more loyal than Roy. He believed in the Arrow's cause long before he was ever a part of it. He sought you out because he wanted to help you. He believed in what you believed. And that is because Roy believes in you and the Green Arrow's cause. Your mission was his mission. Roy trusts you because you trust him. And the only reason you trust him is because you took your time and gave him the chance to earn your trust. Which he has. Trust must be earned. They got lucky with Barry. Do they even know anything about those other vigilantes?" What did they need even more people for, anyway? There were too many already, if she were completely honest. Too many people, too many different opinions on matters and how to handle situations was not helping the cause. Which reminded her they didn't even agree on the cause and goal. But yeah, sure, throw more people into the mix. That'll help.
This was moronic.
"Well, it didn't take Felicity long to find their civilian names... which says a lot. Your secret identity should be something that can't be figured out with a few simple strokes on a keyboard, something you're willing to protect with your life. No one finding out who you are under the mask might be the only way to protect the people you care about. They're obviously amateurs that have no idea what they got themselves into and what the life of a vigilante brings with it. One of them is actually a teenage girl." Ollie sounded tired and as incredulous as she felt. Having untrained people in the streets every night was very dangerous. They could easily make a dire situation worse. They could get themselves and the person they were trying to help hurt or killed.
Wait, did he say teenage girl? Jesus! What was wrong with his team? Why would you throw a teenage girl into this life, Thea had been different, and it wasn't as if Ollie had agreed with her choice. Speedy was just too damn stubborn and there was no arguing with a Queen once they made up their minds. And Ollie's always had trouble denying his baby sister anything. Besides, it was safer to have her close and know what she was doing and facing and being able to keep an eye on her than have her do it anyway and yet no way of knowing the dangers she was getting herself into. Ollie had been keeping her close in order to be able to protect her. Knowing full well that Thea would've just gone out and fought anyway if he refused to let her join the team. That would've led to him splitting his focus every single night, trying to find and protect his sister while trying to fight the scum of the city. Which in turn would've led to little success all around. The point was Ollie never would've recruited Thea and actually brought her in and trained her had she not already learnt how to fight from Malcolm. Ollie wouldn't have taught her and for good reason.
This was no life for a child. They should want to help the girl and get her out of the vigilante business, not encourage her. The thought of involving Sin into anything Canary related had never even crossed her mind. She had taught her basic fighting skills so that she could protect herself, not so that she would join her on the streets. It had been her goal to get Sin off the streets, to help her get a better chance at life. To be able to move out of the Glades and live a good life, leave the hopelessness that came with the cruel hand she had been dealt with behind.
And yes, keeping her promise to Sin's father had played into it. But mostly she had just wanted to help her after saving her and to make sure that Sin would never be helpless in a situation like that again. She had simply taught her basic survival skills.
"They want to recruit a teenage girl? What drug are they on? Or have they hit their heads really hard? This is moronic. You don't need more team members, any changes that are taken concerning the team should lead to fewer people being involved, not more. Untrained civilians should not fight crime, and they most definitely should not be involved in anything Green Arrow related. Even less a teenage girl. The goal should be to get her to stop risking her life like this and live her life, safely away from all of this." Sara had serious trouble wrapping her head around the newly gained information. No wonder Ollie was close to exhaustion. Having to put up with unnecessary shit like this, that should never even have been discussed on top of the actual issues that would need to be discussed like the Ghosts and Prometheus, for instance.
"Believe me, I brought it up with them, same argument you just made, well more or less. It was not well received. Speedy got it and Laurel eventually saw my point and agreed as much as she could given my argument could be conceived as an underhanded jibe at her. Since I was not happy when she decided to take over for you after Malcolm... I didn't agree with her joining the team and even less have her in the field long before she was ready. I got overruled then, I'm not going to let that happen again." Sara was glad to hear the conviction behind his words. It meant that he wasn't going to budge or bend on the matter. She felt a heavy boulder lift from her chest, that she hadn't even been aware of.
The thought of strangers learning his identity scared her to death.
There was no knowing what the consequences of such a rash and thoughtless action would be. Ollie could get killed or arrested for what he did. Should people learn that the Green Arrow and the Arrow aka the Hood are the same person it could lead to 25 to life or even the death penalty depending on the judge and jury. And that was simply the consequence of the law.
Having his enemies find out would lead to a fate much worse than that.
How could they even consider involving people they didn't know? How could they consider revealing Ollie's secret to strangers without his consent, again? How could they not think about the consequences for Ollie should he end up being betrayed by those strangers they just wanted to recruit? Had they lost all sense of reality? They were still aware of the fact that vigilantism was still against the law, right? That in the eyes of said law, Ollie was considered a murderer.
There was no statute of limitations when it came to murder. And there was no argument that could be made against the fact that some of the death the Hood had caused were anything but calculated, pre-planned executions. Never mind that every single one of those men had deserved what they got and received a fair warning from Ollie. Still, in the eyes of the law it was premeditated murder, which allowed the highest possible sentencing; 25 to life or even capital punishment.
The best he could get as a defense in that matter was an insanity plea, and that would not happen, he'd never agree to that and she'd never let him. They'd lock him away in a mental institution for the rest of his life. He would truly go insane. Not that prison would be better. Prison would almost certainly be a dead sentence for him. He'd probably get killed by the people he put there.
The public could never learn about the Green Arrow's identity because once they did, Ollie was as good as dead.
Laurel had known Ollie for more than twenty years, Thea was his sister. Ollie had done his homework on Dig and Felicity and taken his time, testing them, figuring out whether or not he could trust them. Same with Roy. And even then it had been an enormous risk to share his secret with them. And both Dig and Felicity had seriously struggled with that revelation, almost turning him in. So why would they want to take such a tremendous risk with people that had no ties to Ollie, no reason not to go to the police, reveal the Green Arrow's identity and possibly get a reward for the information.
Or decide to just go for the highest bidder with the information. Handing not only Ollie's but her and Mila's lives over to his enemies.
"Are they even aware of the fact that you don't actually need a team? You've done it by yourself for months. You don't need Dig, you can handle yourself, have for years. And you certainly don't need Felicity. You're ARGUS trained with computers. Sure, having them around makes things easier to some degree, but it also complicates a lot of things and leads to issues you wouldn't have if you were still doing it by yourself. And we both share the same opinion when it comes to our sisters being out in the field." Which meant they didn't like it. They've never wanted them to join their crusade and risk their lives on a daily basis, they wanted more for them.
Ollie and she didn't choose this life, it chose them. Everything that had happened to them from the moment the Gambit had gone down had led to them putting on their leathers and trying to make the world a better place. It was as much about wanting to help people, wanting to make their city a safer place as it was about penance, righting their wrongs. Not that they were keeping score and they both knew they would never be able to make up for all the pain they had caused, all the lives they had taken. But they needed to do something to try and balance it out.
They hadn't chosen this life it had chosen them.
They had been faced with the worst of humanity the world had to offer, they had become the darkness in order to survive the darkness and they had been so close to death so many times and actually died more than once in her case, that it had become a normal occurrence. Risking their lives, almost dying, dying young while protecting their city was normal, they had cheated death so many times it lost its power over them. They hadn't feared death in years. They had been okay with dying for so long… they no longer were because of Mila and the reason Ollie went out every night now was different than before but not that different that it really changed anything. His drive, his motivation had changed some, it was no longer to right his father's wrong, well that still played into it, but it was mostly to make the city a better place for their daughter to grow up in.
But Laurel and Thea had had no reason to don masks and risk their lives every night. They had other options to help. Laurel could do so much good simply by being a lawyer, just like she had done at CNRI before the Undertaking. There had been no need for her to join Ollie every night. She had been very grateful and relieved when she learnt that Ollie had been anything but pleased and tried to keep Laurel away from everything Arrow related that had nothing to do with the courts and the legal system. If it were up to her, Laurel would put down the mask forever and never return as the Black Canary. This was not the life she wanted her to have. She did not want her sister to die young while being in the field, fighting crime on the streets when she could do so much more fighting it in the courtroom, making sure the people Ollie caught for the police would get the full weight of the law and the highest sentences their crimes would permit.
Not that she was ever going to bring it up with her sister. This was an argument she wasn't willing to have. Least of all now after Ollie and she had shared their past relationship with her. Laurel wouldn't take kindly to her words.
She loved her sister so very much but she was just too stubborn for her own liking and her need to prove herself to others and the world and her need for approval was something she had never understood and never would. Sara wasn't sure what Laurel's reasons had been to become Black Canary, but she sometimes felt that it wasn't… her sister's reasons seemed almost… Laurel had said it had been to honor her, she had donned the leathers for her… yet, how and why? The last thing she would've ever wanted for her sister was to die the same way she had, a violent, excruciatingly painful and pointless death.
Her older sister was an addict and the vigilante lifestyle had the possibility of being addictive, the adrenaline the constant danger brought, the feeling of satisfaction saving someone's life brought, the attention the vigilantes received from both the population and the media… Sara sometimes worried about her sister's addictive personality and that she might have switched one addiction for another. Not that there was anything she could do about it if it were the case. It was essentially Laurel's life and her choice. There wasn't anything she could do about it except bring it up and again, that was a can of worms she was not willing to open anytime soon.
She wasn't sure she believed her sister's reason of doing it for her, but she was also sure that Laurel firmly believed in what she was saying, even if Ollie and she weren't completely buying it. They've known Laurel too long to not understand her character and therefore question her motives, even if only in their minds, or between the two of them alone, when no one could hear them. This did not mean that they were diminishing what she was doing. Laurel had helped and still was helping so many people, she was doing a great job out there, but there wasn't really a reason for her to be out there.
There was no need for her to be risking her life every night.
Sara recalled Ollie mentioning that Laurel had been thinking about leaving the vigilante life behind her to concentrate on being the best district attorney she could be. What had happened to that decision? Would she have gone through with it had Ollie not left Star City all those months ago? Was there a chance Laurel would consider it again, now that Ollie was back? She hoped so. She still wanted more for her sister. She wanted her to have a life away from all the violence and the almost certainty of a brutal, violent death that would probably come way too soon. This was a part of life Sara had never wanted her sister to experience. She still wished Laurel would've never decided to join Ollie in his crusade. It didn't matter how good she had become, this life was not meant for her. Her big sister should spend all of her time in the light. She never wanted Laurel to be a part of this. To experience the darkness and the violence and the pain.
And then there was Thea. Sweet, kindhearted, loving Speedy. She understood her reasons. She understood how it felt to be helpless, to have no control over your life and what was happening to you. To think you were saved, that someone cared and was trying to help you only to later on realize that you had made a deal with the devil and he had turned you into something you couldn't even recognize anymore.
Malcolm had used Thea.
Just like Anthony had used her. She could relate to Thea because there were a lot of similarities between them and what had happened to them. There always had been.
Malcolm had manipulated her and played on her desperate need to be a part of a family, to be loved. She couldn't blame Thea for her choices, although she would never understand why she had chosen the man who had been the mastermind behind the Undertaking over her own brother. But some of it made sense. She had just lost her mother. She had lost both her parents only to realize that she still had one parent left. Who could blame her for wanting to hold on to the one parent she still had? Thea had grown up with Malcolm around. He had been a huge part of all of their lives. So having her turn to him was not difficult to understand. She had felt betrayed by both Moira and Ollie, even if it had not been Ollie's fault, and Thea had been acting on a wrong narrative. But Speedy had felt that she couldn't trust her brother, so she turned to her father, who was also the father of her other older brother, whom she had lost too. Sara wasn't sure what she would've done in Thea's position, but she could understand the choice the young woman had made.
Hadn't she helped torture and experiment on people while she was the same age Thea had been when she had chosen to follow Malcolm. So, it was not up to her to judge the youngest Queen, for now, for her less than smart choices. When hers had been so much worse. She could understand Thea's need to learn how to protect herself, how to take care of herself. But that didn't mean that she needed to be out every night fighting now that she had learnt how to keep herself safe.
Thea should step back from this life.
Sara had been so happy to hear that Ollie's little sister had decided to take some courses at College so that she could stand on her own two feet and figure out what she wanted to do with her life. Speedy had so much potential. She was such an intelligent young woman, and she was by far the kindest person who she knew. But she was worried about her sister-in-law. Everything that had happened to her in the last few years had obviously affected her deeply and changed her irrevocably. Sara was worried that the longer Thea would go out in the field every night, the more of her innocence and kindness she would lose in order to harden and be able to deal with everything she sees on a nightly basis. There was no way to be confronted with the worst humanity had to offer every day and not end up bitter, cynical and mentally damaged.
What Sara wanted more than anything, well almost, was to protect both her sister and her sister-in-law from the harsh reality and consequences that came with their life choice. She never ever wanted them having to deal with the mental health issues Ollie and she were struggling with. All she wanted was for them to be happy and safe.
Notes:
As I mentioned in the beginning this chapter turned out differently than planed, there was supposed to be some Oliver in it too, lol. But Sara sort of took over and you know, you can't stop her lmao! We'll get Oliver in the next one.
Just to clear something up this is simply Sara's point of view and how she sees things. It doesn't mean she's right and it doesn't mean she's wrong. This is not meant to bash or diminish Laurel and Thea's roles in the Team or everything they have done for Star City. It's simply how Sara feels about it. It's her perspective.
And I'm planing on catching up with Thea soon too, I've neglected her lately and that was never my intention... I miss Speedy.
We love Roy in this house, I'm just apprehensive of writing him, because I really don't want to get him wrong. But Oliver and Sara love him as much as they do Thea and Laurel.
So, I hope I got the whole Ra's and League bit right, I'm not too familiar with the comics and just sort of read up on it online, let me know if I got it wrong and I will correct it.
Okay, so I still haven't watched past the first couple of episodes of season 5 of Arrow. I have serious issues with so much of its storyline... as I'm sure you are aware of after this chapter...lol. Everything with the recruits and how fast Oliver revealed his identity to them was just bullshit and so out of character for him that I'm pretty sure flashpoint did something to his mind or maybe changed him with an Oliver from a different earth... maybe he's a clone? And real Oliver is hanging out with Sara in a cabin in the woods somewhere just enjoying life in the quiet nature... sorry for the rant got carried away. But it's just so out of character for him and that makes it so unbelievable and stupid.
Chapter title is from the song "Undefeated" by Skillet.
