Violet's Pov:

Christmas was only one day away. One day! And I still didn't have a Christmas gift for Clem. I thought about writing her something like I usually do, but I wanted to do something different this time. I always wrote stuff, I wanted to get her a real gift as she did for me.

Clem had gotten me Clover and the heart-shaped necklace that was currently around my neck. She had even put a picture of Jackson in my locket. I had to get her something just as special as those items were to me.

Which is why I was currently in the car with Sophie and Brody. We were on our way to the mall, a place I usually dreaded. But today I was anxious to find something for Christmas for Clem. So I had texted Sophie, and she had offered to drive me and Brody to the mall.

"Oh my god, Vi! This is so exciting." Brody said from the front seat. "We haven't been out just us girls in ages. Too bad Clem couldn't come with us. Whatcha plan on getting her..."

Brody just unraveled question after question. But I wasn't paying attention. I had no idea what I would get Clem. I popped open my locket and stared at the picture of Jackson. If he were here, he would have an idea about what I should get Clem.

"Violet?! Hey Violet?!"

I looked up startled. Had Brody been talking to me? I looked at her now and mouthed the words "What?"

She and Sophie both laughed at me. "I said, we're here."

Oh. I blushed a little. I hadn't even noticed that the car had stopped. Too lost in thought about what I'd get Clementine.

I stepped out of the car and got a face full of cold air that made me shiver. Some snow blew across the parking lot in white wisps. It was definitely winter now.

Sophie, Brody, and I all walked up to the large building and walked through the automated doors. Inside all the different shops were decorated in their Christmas best. Ornaments and garland hung from doorways and ceilings. Clothing stores had red and green Christmas wear displayed on their manikins.

I felt slightly overwhelmed with all the hustle and bustle of last-minute Christmas shopping but Sophie and Brody seemed right in their element. "Come on Vi," Sophie called to me and I reluctantly followed them into a clothing store.

While Sophie and Brody shopped for the boys of our friend group I was on my own shopping for my one true love. Clothes weren't really my idea of a good present. Sophie had bought Louis some nice new ties that weren't as eccentric as the ones he already had. Brody was buying Marlon a new leather jacket so he wouldn't only have his Ericson jacket to wear.

I thought about buying Clem a new shirt or jacket, but I liked Clem's jean jacket. I liked seeing it on her. And dare I say it, I thought she looked hot in it. I didn't want to change that. And I felt like buying her a new shirt wasn't right. I wanted something that she could have with her all the time. Maybe something like the locket she had given me. Yeah.

But I couldn't get her a locket. Then it would look like I was just copping off of her. No. I had to get her something original. Something special. Something that stood out.

I left the girls to flaunter over some sweaters and walked over to a display table. Some sparkly necklaces caught my eye. One had a pink butterfly made out of sparkly gems. Another had a horse head and one had some feathers. One was a silver heart made out of shiny stones. It looked really cute, and I picked it up. The bottom of the box said, "Meant to be together."

That's when Brody walked over and peered over my shoulder. "Whatcha got there Vi? A necklace?"

I turned and showed it to her. "Oh, that's so pretty! Sophie come look!" Brody beckoned her over. "Look what Violet found."

Sophie came over and looked at the heart-shaped necklace. "That's super cute Vi. You gonna get that for Clem. It's very sparkly."

I was hesitant to say yes. I really liked it, but I wasn't sure if this is what I really wanted to get her. So I shook my head and set the box back down. Then I turned to Sophie and signed something to her. "Can we go to that store?" And I pointed across the long hall outside the store.

Sophie smiled at me. "Sure thing Vi." Then she turned to Brody. "Violet wants to go in there." And she pointed at the store entrance.

So we walked across the mall to the other side and entered a jewelry store. I had a vision in my mind now. The necklace had sparked a desire in my heart. I was going to get Clem some kind of jewelry. I just didn't know what yet, so I wanted to look around for some ideas.

Clem deserved this and so much more. She meant everything to me. She was everything good and more. She's a phone call to her parents, she's a Bible by the bed. She's the t-shirt that I'm wearing, she's the song stuck in my head. She knows just where she's going and she's proud of where she's from.
She's one of the good ones, a love me like she should one. Like she wrote the book one. The kind you find when you don't even look one. Anybody can be good once, but she's good all the time. She's one of the good ones and she's all mine.

You'll know her when you see her by the way she looks at me. You'd say she hung the moon, I'd say she hung the galaxy. Nobody does it better, oh the way she pulls me in. I've known a couple of bad ones
But they all led me to her. She's one of the good ones. And she deserved the best.

I walked up and ran my fingers across the front display case. I saw a lot of gold and silver expensive-looking watches. They were pretty with the way they shined, but it wasn't what I was looking for.

That's when a man in an expensive-looking shirt and tie came to the counter. His name tag read the words 'My Name is Justin' across it. "Can I help you? Anything, in particular, you're looking for?" He asked me.

I wasn't quite sure how to respond considering I couldn't talk. Luckily Sophie came up behind me and heard the question. " No thanks. We're just looking around."

"Okay. Just holler if you need anything." Justin said. And we both walked away from the watches.

I took the lead and walked over to the other half of the store where some necklaces were on display. There was a bright golden cross in one of them. And another held some silver and blue beads in a pattern. Not what I was looking for. There was another necklace in the shape of a bird made out of blue crystals. Also not what I was looking for.

Then I passed by some earrings. I hadn't really thought about it before but maybe I could get some earrings for Clem. She had her ears pierced. Maybe this is what I could start getting her considering there was so much to choose from. They had earrings in all different shapes and colors. Ones to match seasons, ones to match holidays, and ones to match different activities. Honestly, there was a different type of earring to match everything and anything. I even saw ones that looked just like the necklace from the other store. Heart-shaped and made out of the same silver crystals.

They would look super cute on Clem. But were earrings enough? Maybe if I got the earrings and the necklace together to make it a set.

Ughhh! I was so indecisive. Why couldn't I just pick something!?

Get it together. This was Clem we were talking about. Of course, I couldn't decide. Whatever I got her had to be perfect.

I wonder if Clem had this hard of a time finding gifts for me too. I know she spent a lot getting me my heart-shaped locket for me. But that's all that I knew about her getting it. Well, that and getting the picture of my brother for me.

I was just about to give up when I saw a sign flash in front of my vision. It had the word promise across it made out of white diamonds. So I walked over to the display case and I saw a bunch of rings.

I believe that Justin could see my interest peek because he also came over. "Ah, got your eyes set on a promise ring do you?" He asked.

But I looked at him funny. What was a promise ring? I knew about engagement rings, but I wasn't quite ready for that. I mean hopefully one day, but I wasn't ready to jump the gun just yet.

Brody came up behind me and her face lit up. "Ahhh, you're getting Clem a promise ring!"

I still didn't know what a promise ring was but it sounded like a big deal. I was starting to like the idea.

So I signed to Brody. "What is a promise ring?"

"Ahhh, Vi you don't know?!" She said exasperated.

I shook my head no.

"A promise ring is about the sweetest thing a couple can do for one another. It's shy of an engagement ring. A promise ring signifies a promise to take the relationship seriously and with the hope of the relationship's future development." Brody explained. "It's a really sweet way to show your commitment to a relationship and is the perfect gift for the stage of your relationship with Clem."

Brody was practically shaking me by the time she was finished explaining. It sounded too good to be true. A promise ring sounded exactly like what I've been looking for. Now I just needed to find one that was right for Clem.

I saw many different rings, all with different bands and ones ranging from crystals to diamonds. Some had engraved words on the bands like, 'I love you' and stuff like, 'His Queen' and 'Her King.' They were all very pretty. I was having a hard time choosing.

That's when Justin asked me a question. "What color eyes does your sweetheart have?"

Well, that was an odd question to ask. But Brody answered for me. "Clementine has deep amber eyes that look like golden pools of honey."

I gave Brody a look. Since when was she so in key with describing Clem's eyes. Was she falling for my girlfriend?

But Justin didn't seem to mind. Instead, he reached under the counter and pulled out an assortment of rings, but he took one in particular into his fingers. "Ah, here we go. Might I suggest this, a gold band with a topaz stone set in the middle?"

He handed me the ring and I took it gently into my fingers as if I was afraid of breaking it. I looked at the glossy band and on the inside, the words "Together Forever" were engraved. And the jewel set in the middle shown just like Clem's honey gold eyes in the setting sun. And that's when I knew, this was the one.

And I signed to Brody. "This is it."

She clapped her hands practically jumping up and down. "Yay! Sophie come see what Violet got."

I handed the ring back to Justin and he put it into a velvet box. Sophie came over, and after I paid, I opened the box for her to see. "It's perfect Vi. Clem's gonna love it." She gave me one of her signature Sophie smiles as we exited the store to go somewhere else.

I smiled to myself, pocketing the ring. I may have just spent all of my money, but it was worth it. Clem was gonna be thrilled when she saw it tomorrow. Because I knew in my heart that it was the perfect gift for her.
