The base of Spiral Mountain, its division borders, all started to melt as one and turned into a rip in reality, leading to a void of pure darkness that threatened to consume the whole Digital World. The top of the mountain, where the latest battle took place was completely destroyed and everyone present fell into the dimensional rip.
The Digidestined and the Anomaly couldn't do anything as they lost their footing after then disappearance of the floor. Victims of gravity, they all fell down while screaming in fright as the darkness consumed them all completly, their partners diving willingly into the void to catch their falling partners.
"Tai!/Matt!/Sora!/Izzy!/Mimi!/Joe!/T.K!/Kari!/Killua!" The eight Digimon all called as they dived into the darkness to rescue their partners.
The fall came to a stop and the group was now floating in a black space, that had some tints of red. It was like when they fell into the Dark Zone the first time they faced the Dark Masters. But still... This felt different. More... Unsettling, to call it a way.
The Digimon arrived soon after, checking on their partners. "Is everyone okay?" VictoryGreymon asked.
Tai nodded. "Yeah, I think so."
Everyone started to look around, trying to make heads or tails of the place where they stood now. Izzy was the one to voice the thought on everyone's minds. "Where in the world are we?"
Killua placed a hand under his chin to think about it. "The bases of the mountain, those divisions, are what formed this area. Since everything in the Digital World is a database in someway, then I can only assume that this place is like... The core of the mountain...?" He said as a wild guess to try and make sense of this turn of events.
Then, Izzy's computer started beeping, and a scowl was formed on Killua's face and he felt a vein throbbing in his forehead. "I swear, if the old man doesn't say something useful! I outta-!"
Izzy opened his computer before Killua could finish his threat, and opened the connection to the Digiman. He had a grimm expression on his face and let out a tired sigh. "When will this darkness come to an end?"
Ignoring his words, everyone started demanding answers. "Spit it, old man, what's this about?!" Killua asked.
"Where in the world are we?" Tai followed.
Matt clenched his fist. "Yeah, why's this happening? We beat all of the Dark Masters!"
Gennai nodded and took all of the questions calmly. "Yes, you did. But you have yet to face the root of all this problems, the being that created all of the evil Digimon that threatened to tear the world apart."
"What?!" The obvious response of confusion echoed in the dark space, as the Digidestined and the Anomaly stared at the old man. Killua went far ahead and pressured for answers. "What being?"
"The pure evil and corruption that crossed the Firewall a long time ago," Gennai explained, thought not giving out a lot either.
Joe tilted his head in curiosity. "The Firewall?"
Gennai sighed and straightened his back to elaborate. "Pay attention, Digidestined, I'm going to tell you about the ancient writings from the prehistoric era of this world!"
He took a deep breath and told the story he himself heard when the order was still intact and the Harmonious Ones weren't sealed down, this story is one that was supposed to be told to the Digidestined, but with so many threats appearing Gennai didn't wanted to overwhelm them with information. "In the Digital World there's always been a barrier called the Firewall. But many ages ago, a being appeared from the other side. Its mere existence caused dimensional curvatures that caused chaos and destruction across the Digital World. Many Digimon tried to stop it, only to fall at its hands and being returned to eggs. So the help of human children from the Human World was called, along with the help of a human from a world with a mysterious power, to bring that monstrous being down once and for all."
"Those kids you talk about are the Digidestined that Homeostasis showed us, along with the Anomaly," Killua deduced.
"And that being from beyond de Firewall is the true reason behind our calling, that is our true enemy!" Sora finished, understanding coming to her face.
"That is what the ancient writings said," Gennai nodded. "That's why I have no doubt that that great darkness has crossed the Firewall again to invade the Digital World!"
Matt's eyebrows tightened at his forehead as he looked around the place where they were. "Great Darkness..."
Joe connected the dots and looked nervously at Gennai. "You mean this place? All of this darkness?"
"This darkness is our enemy's true form?" Tai asked in disbelief, the prospect of fighting a place or space like this looking impossible.
"Don't panic," Killua said. "It has to have a physical form," he looked at Gennai. "It does, doesn't it?"
"It's highly possible," Gennai didn't confirmed anything, much to Killua's irritation. "Prepare- *Bzzzt* To fight again- *Bzzzz* Good luck...- *Bzzzzt*" Then screen turned dark as the connection ended.
"Wha- Hey! Come back!" Tai demanded.
Killua wanted nothing more than bash the computer against something if it meant venting out the rage he felt for the old man. He didn't care if he had gone senile because of Piedmon or if he was just crazy and forgetful, he obviously knew of this evil beforehand and he didn't try to warn them! And what's worse, Homeostasis must've known about this "Great evil" if she is the one who called the first Digidestined and Anomaly here, so why don't tell them in the first place?!
He took a deep breath and let it out; getting angry wasn't going to help anybody here. He looked at his friends, who were just as frustrated as he was.
"That explanation made no sense!" Tai exclaimed in clear annoyance. "What did it meant?!"
"I'm not sure," Joe mumbled. "Maybe that we're about to face a Digimon way too different of what we're used to?"
Izzy closed his computer with a worried expression. "Possibly," He mumbled. "I think he meant we're going to face a Digimon with a different structure of a database."
Matt was actually the one to try and lift the spirits. "We'll beat it! After all, the Digidestined from the past and the Anomaly did too! And they didn't reached the Mega level, unlike us!"
Sora agreed with him, nodding her head with a determined expression. "You are right! There has to be a way, no matter how that being looks like!" She said, bringing nods of determination of everyone.
However, Killua's wheels were turning, even without Illumi's needle, he was still seeing the worst parts of the scenario and the more realistic outcomes. 'But those children used Homeostasis' power and the previous Anomaly to do so. But Matt has a point, they didn't have the Mega level up until she interfered, but all of them reached it, except for T.K and Kari and even they have two powerful Digimon at their side. But we have to be on our guard, we don't know what this new enemy might throw at us.' He finished his analysis.
Suddenly, all around them, growls and groans filled the air around them. They were multiple voices that seemed to be in an incredible amount of pain. Like they were on their last moments and were trying to latch to life for a few more seconds.
"W-what is that?" Kari asked, gripping her brother's hand.
Killua's hair stood up. Whatever it was, it was bad news.
Mimi clasped her hands and inched closer to Rosemon. "It's... It's really creepy."
Magna Angemon and Angewomon were back to back, trying to find the source of the agonizing voices. Angewomon's eyes narrowed beneath the helmet. "What the heck? It sounds like it comes from everywhere..."
Killua held up a hand as the sound started changing, becoming less feral and more understandable. "Listen... It's saying something..."
They all stopped talking to hear more closely to the groans and grumblings. A voice came from them, sounding scornful and full of hate, and it sounded like an amalgamation of the sounds of the darkness around the kids. "That's right... We have returned... To take vengeance... For our suffering!"
"Suffering?" Sora looked around, eyes darting to try and pinpoint the source of the voice.
"Where are you?" Joe called out fearfully, wanting the enemy to reveal itself to end with the tension of anticipation.
From the darkness a geometrical figure surged, as if taking form from the darkness, its dark color somehow standing out from the shadows around them, it was huge, waaaaay too huge, dwarfing Vikemon and HerakleKabuterimon in size.
Everyone tensed up and got on guard, the Digimon and Killua circling around the kids as some sort of shield. Izzy stared at the structure with wariness. "Is that the Digimon that crossed the Firewall?" He asked to himself.
From the figure many platforms started surging, all of them having a golden color and ancient runes of Digital language in it, and from the top of those structures chains shaped like dna spirals with tips that resembled claws were freed. And from the platform at the top a humanoid figure wearing a cape appeared, it had grey skin and wore a black helmet with two holes for its eyes that covered almost all of its head, silver hair falling could be seen sticking out from it, the lower part of its body was connected to tubes and wires melted into the structure. Those tubes and wires were pulsating, as if they were alive.
Killua gulped at the sight of the monstrosity, feeling a pressure by its mere presence greater than the ones he felt from the Dark Masters, he hardened his eyes and turned to Izzy. "What does the analyzer says?"
Izzy started typing. "A-Apocalymon. Level Unknown, Type Unknown. It's true nature is a mystery, shrouded in darkness. The database is not sure if its even a Digimon. His strongest attack is called Darkness Area."
Killua clicked his tongue as he heard the blanks of information in the new enemy's data. He turned to glare at the being in front of them; it stood completly motionless, its red-blood eyes staring at them with hate for some reason. It wasn't superiority or anger, it was outright hate--as if he has been wronged by them.
In the Human World, everything was still in uproar. Few minutes have passed since the sky showed that mysterious continent. And in Japan, Odaiba, a few minutes have passed ever since various families saw their children being taken away to the sky.
The Kamiyas, Tachikawas, Toshiko Takenouchi, Shin Kido, Hiroaki Ishida, and Natsuko Takaishi watched the sky as the figure of Apocalymon was projected in the last remaining visage of the other world.
Yuuko clinged to her husband at seeing the horrendous creature in the sky. "Honey... What's that?!" She knew he didn't have the answer, but she couldn't help but ask it. Susumu could only hold her as he watched the image in the sky.
Said image started wavering for a moment and the families all gasped; their children appeared facing the monster, shielded by various of those monsters from before and the white haired boy that accompanied the Kamiya siblings.
"Mimi!" Both Tachikawas gasped and clinged to each other.
"Sora..." Toshiko muttered, clenching her fist hard.
Shin glared at the image, feeling powerless about the whole thing. "Joe..."
They were all about to see their children's and brother's final battle for the sake of both worlds.
Apocalymon watched the group in front of them. Hate, envy, and resentment burned deep within them at the sight of the Digidestined, their Digimon, and the Anomaly. They calmed themselves and closed their eyes, smiling bitterly at the looks they were receiving from their enemies. "You all think we're horrible, right?"
The group flinched when they were addressed by the monster, inching back a bit as they heard their voice, even the Digimon and Killua flinched but they stayed put to protect the Digidestined in case of an attack from the aberration in front of them.
At seeing the reactions their question brought, Apocalymon opened their eyes. "Figures. Because during our process of evolution, by law of the nature, we all went extinct," The hate they've been suppressing for centuries was starting to boil up, ready to explode.
Killua raised an eyebrow at hearing the words coming from the humanoid's mouth, not making too much sense to him. He needed context. "Evolution process?"
Apocalymon raised their hands and began explaining the meaning behind his words. "The Digimon as a species has survived through time thanks to the process of Digivolution. But what happened to those who disappear during that time? Those who were unable to use the Digivolution and couldn't adapt to their environment?"
Izzy worked up the courage to speak, catching on what Apocalymon was saying. The theory of evolution. "It is natural for any species that is unable to adapt to eventually go extinct."
Killua flinched and turned to Izzy with a panicked stare, realizing that those words were probably not the right thing to say to the powerful Digimon in front of him. 'Dang it, Izzy, not now!' The boy was probably just coping with the fear and nervousness he was feeling at the being in front of him, but Killua's instinct told him this was going to end badly.
And right he was, because Apocalymon's pupils shrank and they roared in fury at the boy, "SHUT UP!" The roar caused all of the group to float back, trying to get away from the being as much as they could. "'It is only natural?' Do you think that fixes everything, that we are going to accept that?!"
Matt glared at the being, trying to make heads or tails of its anger. "What are you saying?"
Apocalymon ignored him and continued with their rant. "Are you judging if we are qualified to continue living on the Digital World?!" He asked, pointing at Izzy.
Izzy shook his head nervously. "N-no I didn't meant that!"
Killua was quickly connecting the dots, realizing the true nature of Apocalymon. Their true identity. 'It can't be-'
Apocalymon's temper became calmer, but they could feel the cold rage bubbling within them. "We were all species of Digimon that couldn't go through the process of Digivolution. Our data went to waste because more stronger Digimon took our place in the world above us. We were sent to the depths of the world, to the Dark Zone! And since then all we've ever known is hate, despair and sadness!"
Finally, Killua spoke and revealed the identity of the being. "You are the amalgamation of those Digimon's resentment. From an era before Homeostasis was created, when the Digital World was only chaos and Digimon tried to get stronger," He said, remembering what Homeostasis showed them the first time they met her. 'And that's why he--they--speak in plural.'
Apocalymon didn't acknowledge his explanation, but seemed to confirmed it as they spoke again. "Digidestined, Digimon, Anomaly," He spat the last word. "We want to tell you that we've been waiting for you for a long time."
VictoryGreymon's grip on his sword tightened as he glared at the monster. "What?"
ZeedGarurumon growled and prepared the cannon on his back. "What do you mean by that?"
"Listen carefully! While we were burried deep down below the earth, beyod the Firewall, you were all enjoying the surface; a world with light, laughing and having fun!" Apocalymon's eyes narrowed as their power started emanating from the structure they were attached to. "THAT'S PURE INJUSTICE!"
A wave of energy pushed the group back into the darkness. The Digimon and Killua taking most of the damage so the Digidestined wouldn't be gravely injured. Once the wave subsided, Killua looked around the group to see the damage. "Is everyone okay?"
Tai shook his head to get rid of a minor pain he felt, and nodded. "Yeah, yeah I think."
"We're okay, Killua," Kari tried to say with a smile, but faltered due to the situation.
Dramatically, Apocalymon raised their hands as they exclaimed, "Did we do something wrong?!" To everyone's disgust and astonishment, he dug his claws in his shoulders. Green blood seeping through them. "Why did you all laughed above us, why we only cried and suffered?! Why are creatures that dodn't even belonged to this allowed to live in our world?! WHY ARE YOU ALLOWED TO LIVE, WHY WE WERE LEFT TO DIE?!" He asked as he dragged his claws along his body, leaving trails of blood behind.
Mimi gagged and covered her eyes at the sight of the green blood the enemy was spilling. "No! I can't see that!"
"We can also cry and feel a variety of emoitons too!" The abomination cried in outrage, ripping chunks of flesh from their shoulder as they ripped his nails out from them. "Which law decided our extinction from this Digital World?! That's something we'll never forget! We had dreams, hopes, wishes to live for, to fight for justice and love! We wanted to be useful for the Digital World! Did this world never needed us?! Or we didn't meant anything to it?!"
The Digidestined couldn't stand the sight of the monster ripping away chunks of their own skin like that. Some looked away, while others couldn't tear their eyes from the enemy. At hearing their words full of sorrow and hate, they couldn't help but feel a twinge of sympathy for them. But it was overshadowed by disgust at their actions, and the constant remainder that this being is the cause of all the damage in the Digital World. Unfair or not, their situation didn't gave them right to destroy so many innocent lives.
The creature of darkness calmed down and their wounds started to slowly close themselves. Killua clicked his tongue as he saw that. "He can regenerate himself..."
"Now we'll take over the Digital World! We'll create a sanctuary only for us to live, and anyone who gets in the way will be erased from this plane. Hehehehe AHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Apocalymon laughed in ecstasy at the thought of a world made only for them, feeling it almost within his reach. "Begone the places where the light shines! Darkness is everything we've ever known, SO DARKNESS WILL BE WHAT TAKES OVER THIS WORLD!" One of the claws attached to a the chains morphed, to the groups astonishment, into MetalSeadramon's head. "RIVER OF POWER!" They fired the attack at one of the Digidestined.
"Kari!" Tai exclaimed as he realized the attack was aimed to his sister.
The girl was frozen in fear as she saw the cyan blast coming to her, luckily her partner went to her aid; Angewomon used her back as a shield to protect the little girl. "Gah!"
"Angewomon!" Kari screamed in the hands of the angel after seeing her getting injured.
Apocalymon laughed and extended their arms in an inviting manner. "Children filled with a pure heart! That was a taste of our 'friendship' now comes out love!" Another chain started shaping its form. Now it took the appearance of Myotismon's torso. "Bloody Whip!"
The shadow of the vampire launched its trademark attack, this time aimed at Mimi.
The girl in pink cowered and put her arms around her head, waiting for the attack. But Rosemon got in between, holding the rapier between them and the attack. "Mimi!"
The blow was more powerful than expected. It broke the rapier and sent the two females into the darkness around them.
"Now, our justice!" The monster declared. A new chain changed and took the form of Machinedramon's upper body. "Giga Cannon!"
The twin yellow blasts were sent to the Children of love. Sora was paralyzed as the attack from the emperor of the Metal Empire went for her. But Phoenixmon wasn't about to let that happen, she put herself between the blast and her beloved partner. "Sora- Ugh!"
Killua's eyes narrowed and he clicked his teeth as he realized what this was about. "You gotta be kidding me!"
"It's possible he can use the attacks of all the Digimon we've faced until now!" Izzy deduced.
"You mean that, aside from fighting him-them-whatever!" Joe said, spluttering in confusion of how to refer to Apocalymon. "Aside from fighting it we're going to face the Digimon from the past at the same time?!"
Sora was tending her partner after the blast, as she turned after hearing the news. "That means this fight is impossible?"
Killua's Nen exploded around him as he glared at Apocalymon with an unusal determination. "Like hell! If we beat those guys before, and this guy is only copy-pasting them, then we can beat them again, and it in the process!" He said, to psyche himself up, as well as the others members of the group.
"Killua's right!" Tai said, looking at his friends. "Don't fall for it, we just have to continue fighting!"
T.K gripped his fists and nodded in determination, turning to face the nearest member of the group to him--Which turned to be Kari and Angewomon. "We have to join our forces!" The two girls nodded. Magna Angemon floated near them and readied Excalibur.
Matt was also feeling pumped and ready to take on the final boss in front of them. "We can't back down, not right now!" ZeedGarurumon was at his side, growling and ready to attack.
Apocalymon didn't seemed intimidated by the children, if anything they looked even more confident than ever. "I'd have you know that I have yet to show you my more full power! Digivolution Death!"
They extended their hands forward and all of the chains surrounding them were launched at the Digimon on the group. The claws at the end of it grabbing the Digimon on their clutches--Even the giant ones like HerakleKabuterimon and Vikemon. .
"Guys!" Killua exclaimed, seeing his Digimon friends trapped. "Let them go!" He said, sharpening his nails and ready to use the Godspeed.
Apocalymon ignored him and just grinned sadistically. "We'll just show them all, how it feels to be forsaken by your process of Digivolution!"
The bodies of the Digimon all started glowing. Apocalymon retreated the claws from them, revealing that all of them had reverted to their Rookie form, minus Gatomon, much to the group's disbelief.
"N-no way..." Matt gaped.
"They went all back to normal..." T.K muttered in disbelief.
Patamon flapped to him, looking crestfallen at losing his Ultra Form. "I'm sorry T.K."
The boy shook his head and gave him a nervous smile. "It's not your fault, don't worry."
Kari however looked dismayed at what just happened. "How can we win now?"
Killua answered, not tearing his eyes from the monster. "Just use the Crests again! As long as you have it you can evolve over and over again!"
Gabumon nodded, looking determined. "We still have the energy to fight!"
"We can do it one more time!" Tentomon said, lifting his small claws up.
Joe took the Crest out as well as his Digivice, looking desperated after what happened. "Please do!"
"Leave it to us!" Gomamon said, giving him a thumbs up.
Palmon held her stomach and grimaced. "I'm a little hungry though..."
"Let's put our heads in it guys!" Agumon said, ready to join the fight again.
"Let's chit chat, more evolving!" Killua snapped, the Godspeed aura spiking his hair up. The electric blue eyes on the Hunter's eyes shining with desire to put this enemy down.
The group all reached for their Digivices to join the fight again. But Apocalymon was faster, they wanted to make this kids taste the true despair. The same despair they felt while trapped in the darkness for so long. Their vengeance was wronged once, it wasn't going to happen again. The accursed process of Digivolution was going to be over right now.
"Darkness Touch!" The from one of the claws, many hands similar to Devimon's were launched to them.
Many of those hands attackef Killua, and he started slashing them apart with his hands. But the others weren't so lucky, the hands snatched something from their necks. Something that has accompanied them and was their triumph card over any obstacle in front of them: Their Tags and Crest.
The hands stopped attacking Killua and he went to attack the ones holding the Crests. "No!"
There wasn't any pulse of energy, or a even muscles clenching over them. They were just in Devimon's hands one moment and in the other... They bursted into data. In one moment, Apocalymon managed a feat that not even Piedmon could reach.
The Crests had been destroyed.
Tai felt completly numb as he watched their last hope being destroyed. "O-our Crests..."
"Are gone..." T.K said, his face twisted with horror.
Sora was trembling and felt tears coming to her eyes. "N-now we can't make them Digivolve...!"
"Do you feel now the despair of not being able to Digivolve?! The same despair we felt for centuries?! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Apocalymon laughed in delight as their enemies finally had a taste of their suffering.
Killua gritted his teeth as the reality of the situation dawned on him. Without the Crests his friends could only access to the Champion Level. He wasn't sure he could beat the monster on his own, stall him a bit maybe, but with so many hands covering all of its fronts the task seemed impossible. 'This can't be the end! It can't be!'
Mimi was trembling, holding Palmon close to her. "There- There is no way for us to beat that monster?!"
Izzy gripped his head as he racked his brain to find a solution. "The Digivolution process could be done naturally, but with the Crests it could be done faster! Without them and in our current situation... We can't do anything!" The tech wiz fell into despair as he was forced to see the truth of their position.
Tai turned to him with a glare mixed with fear and anger. "That can't be! There has to be a way for us to win!"
"How did the previous Digidestined did it in the past?!" Matt asked, looking around.
"With Homeostasis power, she gave them the chance to reach the Mega Level with the help of the previous Anomaly," Killua said. "But without her I don't know if I can recreate that miracle!" He said, clenching his fist.
Apocalymon thrusted their hands forward and their eyes started shining red. "Atad era uoy fo lla, atad era uoy fo lla, atad era uoy fo lla!" He started chanting in some weird language and he liberated a dark aura around him.
"AAAAH!" Joe screamed as he looked down. "M-my legs!" He screamed as the lower part of his body were being erased.
Sora gasped as she saw what was happening to her friend. Her eyes shrinking in horror when she noticed that her's as well were vanishing. "W-what is this?!"
Killua turned around and his eyes widened in horror. All of his friends were starting to disappear from bottom to top. "Guys!" He glared at Apocalymon. "What are you doing to them!?" He demanded.
The monster ignored him and continued the chanting.
Izzy threw in an explanation. "Our databases are being erased from the Digital World!"
Killua just watched powerless as his friends were slowly being erased from the plane of existence. Unable to do anything to save them. He glared again at the monster and charged at him. "STOP IIIIT!" He screamed as he went to the main body.
The chains all made a shield to protect the main body. Killua sharpened his nails and started slashing the chains to try and reach the humanoid body in the top of the structure. His eyes burning with rage as he wanted nothing more than to cleave the abomination in tiny little shreds. "You bastard! Why aren't you doing the same to me?! ANSWER ME DAMNIT!"
Apocalymon completly ignored him and continued with the chanting, a sick grin forming on their faces as the Digidestined were reduced to nothing more than heads.
"What's going to happen?" Piyomon asked as her body, as well as the other Digimon, disappeared like the children's.
"I don't know!" Gabumon exclaimed, his body being nothing more than a head at this point.
Realizing that he couldn't reach Apocalymon's true body, Killua turned around to see the last moments of his friends in this plane of existence. "GUYYYYYYYYS!"
"KILLUAAAA!" They screamed as they vanished.
Now, in the darkness were only him and Apocalymon.
"No..." The Godspeed aura dispelled from him. "No way... THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING!" He yelled in denial.
Apocalymon laughed. A triumphant laugh that echoed all across the darkness that soon would consume the rest of the Digital World. There looked down at the Anomaly, who just floated numbly in the space where they reigned. "Anomaly... We kept you here because of the special hate we have for you. You: A being from a world that wasn't connected to the Digital World being given the chance to enjoy the pleasures of the surface. So I will make you suffer here, alone for all eternity, as you watch me cover this world with shadows! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
Killua clenched his fist and turned to Apocalymon, his Nen and Godspeed flaring up again as he charged at the monster with a roar of grief and fury. "YOU FUCKING BASTAAAAAAAAAAARD!"
Killua dashed in the space of darkness, somehow managing to move in the infinite void, charging to Apocalymon with a blind rage. The chains again blocked his way to the main body, this time trying to bat the boy away. Killua vanished before they could stroke him and attacked from behind, but again the chains blocked his attack.
The boy clicked his tongue and moved in random directions to try and put an end to the abomination that dared to took away his friends, only to meet the same results; the chains blocking his way and forcing him to try a different angle.
"Anomaly, there's no point! You'll be trapped here with us for eternity!" Apocalymon laughed.
"As long as I can put an end to you I don't care! In the name of my friends I WILL DESTROY YOU!" Killua yelled as he charged again.
Whiteness. Everything around them was whiteness. But not like that time during Homeostasis' presentation, where they could still feel something, this one was like... Like all of their senses had been nullified. Like they existed, but didn't at the same time. It was a miracle they stayed conscious in this state.
"W-where are we?" Tai asked, overwhelmed by their surroundings. He wasn't even sure how he was able to talk or see around all of this whiteness.
"I think we are in the database itself," Izzy said from... Somewhere, his voice echoing across the emptiness of the void. "All of our information has been erased from the program. From the world itself."
"Erased?!" Mimi's voice sounded scared and full of despair. "That means we'll never go back to normal?!"
"I... I'm not sure," Izzy said, fear and frustration clear on his voice.
"What's going to happen to us now?!" Joe asked, his voice carrying his usual worry increased to higher lengths.
Kari, usual positive and sweet Kari, asked with no short amount of fear in her voice. "Is this the end?"
Sora answered her, but not an answer that gives hope, but one full of uncertainty. "I don't know, this is the first time something like this happened to us! What can we do?!"
"That means... We lost?" Tai asked, unable to believe this was it. That their adventure came to an end like this one.
"This is all over?" Matt asked, his voice sounding reluctant to the fate they were receiving.
A heavy silence filled the void where they'd all been sent by Apocalymon, until T.K's voice made a question. "Where's Killua?"
Everyone gasped as they realized their leader wasn't with them at the moment. That could only mean one, dreadful thing. He was out there, with Apocalymon, still in the fight.
"No way... Don't tell me he really is trapped with Apocalymon," Tai said in disbelief.
"We have to help him! He can't bear him on his own!" Kari said, feeling worry for the white haired boy.
"Again the question is how? How can we get out of this place to go back to face Apocalymon with Killua?" Izzy asked in general, hoping that the answer would miraculously fall into them.
But when no one offered an answer, he could only resign himself to this fate. All of the Digidestined will forever float in a vast ocean of white forever, while both worlds are completly overrun by the darkness of Apocalymon.
"Don't give up yet!" Agumon's voice rang across the void. "This fight isn't over!"
"Agumon...?" Tai was surprised to hear his partner's voice in that place.
"I don't know about you guys, but I will keep fighting as long as I live!" Gabumon declared, his fist clenching in the fabric of his fur.
"Over and over again we've overcome challenges thanks to our strength and will to continue forward!" Piyomon said. "Why should this be any different?"
"It is different, Piyomon. We've been completely erased from the Digital World, Killua is all alone, and we don't have any idea how to get back! Instead of focusing on fighting back, we have to find a way to regain our physical form," Sora told her partner.
If he could, Joe would be grabbing his head in despair. "And even if we go back to the fight, all that we have is the Champion Level to fight! Without our Crest you can reach your most powerful forms!"
"This doesn't have any precedent, none of us knows how to deal with the situation," Izzy said. "It's a really delicated issue."
"Then tell me sometime Izzy," Tentomon requested. "Did you know of any way to defeat the previous Digimon that we've encountered throughout our journey?"
Izzy quieted down as he heard the bug's point.
"In an adventure you eventually face new experiences and challenges!" Gabumon nodded, showing his perspective on how to address their problem. "And this is what we all have been through right? An adventure!"
"You guys never knew the solution to a problem before, but we pulled through even with the chances against us, remember?" Gomamon asked.
Joe was the first one to speak, understanding coming to his voice. "That's right... Ever since we came to the Digital World we didn't know anything on how to address our problems, but still since File Island we managed to continue. So many things happened that I felt my heart about to explode."
"But because we were all together we surpassed all kindd of challenges, like the first time we evolved to defeat Kuwagamon!" Gomamon said in kind of a nostalgic tone.
"At first we all just wanted to leave," Joe said. "But thanks to everything I gained experiences that no test or study could have teached me!" He remembered back in Rainbow Bridge when he saved T.K from drowning when they faced SkullSatamon and MegaSeadramon. The first time Ikkakumon evolved in Zudomon.
Or the time when MetalEtemon cornered them all in the resistance's town. And how he didn't wanted to be a liability to his friends. That's when Gomamon evolved in Vikemon.
"Although, many sad things happened that made me cry a lot..." Mimi said in kind of a dejected tone. "But somehow... I feel they made me grow."
"Mimi, are you glad that we met each other?" Palmon asked.
If she could, Mimi would have nodded. "Of course. I won't trade you, or all we went through for anything in the world." She remembered the events in the Geckomon castle; Even when she was a selfish brat, Palmon stood with her. And while she felt sad when her feelings for Killua weren't returned, she was glad he was still her friend. She remembered how she didn't wanted the Geckomon and Otamamon, who put so much effort in awakening their leader, to be punished by ShogunGeckomon. That was the day Togemon became Lilymon.
She will keep Ogremon, the rude Digimon that was their enemy in File Island, but gave his life to save her, and Piximon, the enigmatic fairy that agreed to train them for a day and was the one to save them from the dark masters, in her heart. Carrying their will is what gave her the strength to make Palmon evolve to Rosemon.
"At first I didn't care a lot about Digivolving," Patamon said sheepishly. "Until I met T.K and wanted nothing more than to protect him."
"Yeah, since I met you, Patamon, I learned how important is to have a reason to fight," T.K wanted nothing more than to grab his partner in a hug, as he remembered the events with Devimon and how Angemon gave his life for them. Or the events in the Rainbow Bridge, where his partner faced one of Myotismon's most dangerous henchmon, he clinged to the hope that his partner would come out on top and Angemon returned that hope by evolving in Magna Angemon.
"Sora, through it all you were worried for me and the others right?" Piyomon asked.
"Piyomon," In Sora's voice you could hear the smile.
"And I think everyone liked that you worried about them too!" Piyomon said, sounding cheerful on talking about her partner's caring nature.
She remembered when Sora didn't wanted to let her fight against Myotismon the first time because she was injured. That love is what make her go from Birdramon to Garudamon. And when she wanted nothing more than to protect all of the Digimon she, Killua and Kari freed from Machinedramon's factory, that made her evolve into Phoenixmon.
"Izzy, with you I leaned so many things from both worlds, about humans and yourself!" Tentomon exclaimed. "When you're in the computer, there's nothing that can stop you! That's one of your best qualities!"
Izzy sounded sheepish as he answered his partner. "Thank you, Tentomon."
He thought back when they were trapped by that weird alien Digimon--how he wanted to trick Izzy in learning useless things. Thanks to Tentomon he snapped out of it. He wanted to meet back with his friends and continue on their journey to satisfy his thirst of knowledge and experienced, that wish made Kabuterimon evolve into Mega Kabuterimon.
He used all of the things he learned to help throughout the journey. He used the program from File Island to help evolve Tentomon in Kabuterimon, but his Crest gave him a boost and turned his partner in HerakleKabuterimon.
"Hey, Matt..." Gabumon tried to form the right words to express his feelings to his partner.
Matt interrupted him. "You don't have to say it, I get it," Matt said with a thankful voice.
It was thanks to all of the events that happened across their journey that Matt could stop being so self-centered. He started seeing that he didn't have to be someone though to be reliable, just be there for his friends when they need it. Like when he helped Joe in the dinner, when Garurumon evolved into WereGarurumon. Or when he and Tai fulfilled the prophecy, he trusted that his friends made the right choice in making a miracle happen, a miracle that allowed Gabumon to evolve in ZeedGarurumon.
"See what I'm talking about, Tai?" Agumon asked with an excited voice. "If we're together we can be invencible!"
Agumon's excitement was contagious, and Tai wanted nothing more than to smile at his partner. "Yeah! You're right, buddy!"
Agumon always stood by his side, even in his reckless decisions. He stood with him in the pyramid when he was too scared to try and go through the fence. With that same courage Agumon gave him, he was able to help him become Metal Greymon. And he trusted him when he wanted to test out the prophecy to defeat VenomMyotismon, which gave them the power to evolve him in VictoryGreymon.
"We can't give up now," Gatomon said. "Kari, I don't want my search for you to be in vain, all this time I wanted to meet you, to protect you, to be your friend. I want to spend more time with you to make up for the lost time."
Kari was moved by her partner's speech. "Gatomon..." She was thankful to have Gatomon in her life and she wanted to spend more time with her. For the two to grow up together. She knows that Gatomon will be there not only for her but for all of their friends, just like when she saved Killua when she evolved in Angewomon the first time. "Gatomon... If I hadn't meet you..."
"If I hadn't come to the Digital World," Joe said.
"If I hadn't started this adventure with you guys," Mimi expressed.
"We won't be who we are now!" Izzy exclaimed.
"That's right our partners had always been with us!" Matt reaffirmed.
"We've always had our friends to back us up!" T.K said with happiness clear on his voice.
"When we couldn't do something by ourselves we wad each other to help us out!" Sora's voice echoed with joy.
"We fought hard to show our true strength and continue onwards! We won't fall right now!" Tai declared. "And besides, our friend is still counting on us to this moment!"
From the human world, the family members of the Digidestined watched the fight. Spouses held each other tight, even Natsuko and Hiroaki held hands, after they saw their children disappear, all of them were witnessing as one children continued fighting with the aberration in the sky.
Even when they saw their children, and brother disappear they still had the hope they would pull through it as they did with the monsters invading Odaiba.
"C'mon, kids!" Hiroaki said with greeted teeth, holding his ex-wife's hand that she clenched back.
"You have to come back Joe, don't leave that friend of your picking all the slack, the world depends on all of you," Shin muttered.
"You are our greatest pride, children," Toshiko said, holding her hands in a prayer for her daughter and her friends safety.
"Be strong!" Masami said, holding his wife close, and hoping their son will come back.
They weren't the only ones watching. All of Japan--The whole planet--was watching the sky. Some confused and some with fear thinking the end is near. They watched as those children and the monsters disappeared, leaving only one with white hair to fight for them.
Killua panted heavily as his aura dispersed. He couldn't reach the monster's main body, it didn't mattered what angle he tried; the chains would get on his way to bat him away or block the attack. The Godspeed was a no-go now, the electricity he required has been drained after many failed assaults.
But despite all of this, the fire in Killua's eyes didn't died down. He was still trying to fight against Apocalymon by himself, even when his body seemed ready to keel over. He had to fight so his friends would come back.
Apocalymon laughed at the boy's attempts, thei chains floating around him in amusement, almost as if they had a mind on their own. "It's useless, Anomaly. You don't have the strength to challenge me on you own!" He thrusted their hands forward and the chains were launched at the boy.
Killua couldn't dodge in time and the chains wrapped themselves around his body, starting to squish the life out of him. "GWAAAAAAAAH!" He screamed as he felt his ribs being crushed by the chains.
"Give up to your fate, child!" Apocalymon said. "Live forever in this darkness completly alone! Forget your friends and fall into despair... Like we did!"
Killua gritted his teeth as he fought back the chains. His head was bowed and his body trembled. "As if..." He muttered. "As if I would go back to that!" He exclaimed and snapped his head to glared at him. "I already lived alone in the darkness for a long time! I won't ever go back to that! Even if I have to die against you I won't fall prisoner to the darkness again!" He yelled.
Apocalymon scowled at the child's resistance to accept his fate.
"That I forget my friends?" Killua asked. "Go to hell! They're everything I have! The memories of them are everything I have to fight! Even if they are not here, their families are still in danger! And I will not let you put a finger on them!"
Killua glared strongly at the monster, trying to lung forward to continue attacking despite the chains tied around him. He looked like a mad beast ready to attack at anything in his way. His killing intent filling the area, even when it wasn't effective to Apocalymon, he was ready to continue fighting to his last breathing. "Giving up and living in the darkness would be like spitting in all the fights we had to get here! That would be like betraying them! And I swore... I SWORE THAT I WILL NEVER BETRAY MY FRIENDS!"
From Killua's chest, a dark blue light started shining. His Loyalty shining more than ever in that exact moment.
Apocalymon's eyes widened. "I-impossible!"
"We can't let everything go to waste!" Tai said.
"We can't let all of our adventures to be in vain, we can't let everything we learned to be for nothing!" Sora's voice was hard like steel.
"Nor the encounters with the Digimon or the friendship that ties us together!" Matt said.
"We have to continue fighting for our loved ones waiting at us at home!" Izzy said, thinking of his parents.
"We all..." Mimi started.
"Have become..." Joe continued, feeling his resolve hardening.
"Really strong!" T.K finished, with a strength he didn't knew he had.
In the void, with a dark blue light, he kids felt their bodies coming back together.
"How...?" Sora questioned.
"That doesn't matter!" Tai said as he looked around. "If we have our bodies then we have a chance to get out of here!"
Joe nodded. "That's right! We won't back down!"
"Our hearts will never stop shining!" Kari declared, clenching her fists with determination.
At that moment, in everyone's chest, bright lights and familiar symbols emerged. Everyone was stunned as they glanced down and so their Crests symbol shining on them.
Agumon's jaw dropped as he realized what was happening. "The Crests! The symbols of your Crests turned out to be the symbol of your hearts!"
Tai stared at his partner in shock. "T-the symbol of our hearts?"
"I see now! If one of us shows the trait that represent each Crest then we don't need them at all!" Izzy said. "If I show my knowledge, or Joe his Reliability, then they'll shine within us, right?" He asked, excited.
"No, that's not quite it," Matt said, surprising everyone. He smiled and explained. "My friendship trait didn't shined on his own, it was thanks to the friendship of all my friends that gathered within my heart that caused my Crest to shine! At least that's how I feel!"
"The Crest of one works for all of us, and all of the Crests work for one of us!" Tai said. "All of us have a bit of each trait within us!"
Kari clenched her fists and smiled, feeling a renewed enery flow within her. "Then my Light shall shine within all of you!" The pink light on her chest bathed her partner.
"Gatomon Ultra Digivolves to... Angewomon!"
"Then all of your hopes will be my Hope!" T.K smiled as the yellow light shined brighter than ever.
"Patamon Digivolves to... Angemon! Angemon Digivolves to... Magna Angemon!"
"All of the things you've learned will be part of my Knowledge!" Izzy declared as his purple light emanated from him.
"Tentomon Warp Digivolves to... HerakleKabuterimon!"
"The Purity on your hearts will always be with me!" Mimi smiled brightly.
"Palmon Warp Digivolves to... Rosemon!"
"I'll rely on you guys, just like you can rely on me!" Joe told everyone with a confidence never seen before in him.
"Gomamon Warp Digivolves to... Vikemon!"
"I'll return all the Love you guys have given me!" Sora promised as her Crest burned like fire.
"Piyomon Warp Digivolves to... Phoenixmon!"
"With your Friendship there's nothing I can't do!" Matt said, his Crest giving a soothing blue shine.
"Gabumon Warp Digivolves to... ZeedGarurumon!"
"And with your Courage I can surpass anything!" Tai declared as his Crest illuminated the void.
"Agumon Warp Digivolves to... VictoryGreymon!"
The dark blue light illuminated a way in the void that all of the Digidestined followed. Feeling like they were being called back to a place they knew they had to return, to accompany someone who always stood with loyalty at their side. They were going to finish this together!
The dark blue light around Killua died down and Killua felt like passing out. The light managed to pull the chains away, but he felt too weak at the moment.
He started falling only for a pair of arms to catch him. "Easy there, pal."
His eyes shot open and he looked up to see Tai holding him to stop his fall. "T-Tai..." He breathed.
"Sorry for the delay, Killua," Tai smiled. "We'll make up for you."
Killua looked around to see that all of his friends were back. As if nothing bad ever happened to them. He felt tears stinging his eyes but he blinked them back and just let out a huff. "About time you appeared, you idiots!"
Apocalymon's eyes were wide as plate as they saw the Digidestined coming back from the void. "I-Impossible! First the Anomaly and now you!"
All of the members in the group glared at the demonic Digimon and clenched their fist. Their eyes hard as steel and sharp like a blade. Tai helped Killua to stand up for himself as he declared, "Apocalymon, you won't get away with this!"
