A/N – Sorry it has been a little bit since the last update. My son's birthday is coming up and I have been using my spare time coming up with special things to do for him since we won't be able to have a big party.

I can't believe we are already on Chapter 44. When I started this story (long ago) I never thought it would end up being this long! I am so happy you guys are still enjoying it! I am excited about the next few chapters because I will be brining in one of my favorite characters! Of course the way I bring them in will be different from the show but I hope you like it!

Chapter 44

They sat there in the middle of the town square, kissing until Caroline finally pulled away from him.

Klaus smiled at her. "Well, that was unexpected."

Caroline laughed and looked down at the small space between them. "Yeah…sorry."

"Never apologize for kissing me, love." He paused. "Come." He said as he stood up. "I can walk you home of you like or you can come back to my house and wait while I make some calls about getting us a new witch."

There it was, another decision Caroline had to make that had her split in two. She knew she should go home but she also knew that when she got there the part that craved Klaus' company would begin to drive her crazy.

Klaus could tell that she was having a difficult time and knew the choice was pulling her in two different directions. "Why don't I walk you home. I will call you the moment I have some news." He said trying to make things easier on her.

"No." She finally said. "I don't think that is what I want." She paused. "I mean…I know the moment I am alone at home that small part of me is going to start craving your company and it will drive me crazy." Caroline said honestly. "So if you don't mind…"

Klaus cut her off. "You are always welcome at my home." He said simply.

Klaus spent the rest of the afternoon in his study making call after call, following leads and calling up old acquaintances asking for favors. Caroline spent the day in his study with him watching him search for a way to fix her and admiring some ore of his artwork.

Klaus tossed his phone onto his desk and ran his hand over his face.

"Still no luck?" Caroline asked.

"These people are bloody useless." He said not looking up at her.

Caroline placed the sketchbook she was looking through on the small table by her chair and walked over to his desk. She walked around to the side he was sitting on and hopped up on his desk before gently pacing her hand on his shoulder. "Then we will just wait." She said softly.

"No." He said finally looking up. "I still have some ore calls I can make." He picked up his cellphone.

"Do you have any blood bags?" Caroline asked.

"The fridge in the kitchen in always stocked. I will go get you one." He said as he began to stand up.

"No." She said hopping off his desk. "I will go." She gave him a small smile before walking out of his study.

Caroline found her way to the kitchen after only one wrong turn. She pulled a bag from the fridge and was about to head back to Klaus' study when she ran into Rebekah.

"Caroline." Rebekah said with a small sad smile. "I didn't realize you were here."

"Yeah, Klaus is trying to find a witch to help sooner." Rebekah gave Caroline a small nod before walking past her into the kitchen. Caroline turned around. "Hey, are you going to he Christmas Ball?"

"Maybe. Matt isn't sure he can get the night off.

Caroline could tell she was hurt and upset. She knew from the visions Klaus showed her that her and Rebekah were very close. "I'm sorry." Caroline said.

Rebekah smiled, this time it didn't look as sad. "This isn't your fault, Caroline. I don't blame you. None of us do."

Caroline walked back into Klaus' study just as Klaus was placing his phone on his desk.

"I may have found a witch."

"Really?!" Caroline said with a huge smile. "That is great!"

"It's a lead really. There is a witch in New Orleans. But it looks like I will have to make a trip there since no one has her contact information." Klaus stood up. "Let me just tell everyone I am leaving and I will drop you off at home."

"Wait, you are going now?" Caroline said following Klaus out of his study.

"I don't want to waste another moment, Love."

"Well are you planning on going alone?" Caroline asked in a slightly worried tone. She knew he was the Original Hybrid but these were witches they were dealing with, witches they didn't know.

Klaus laughed and finally stopped walking. He turned around and smiled at her. "I am sure I will be fine." Klaus started up the stairs to go speak with his siblings.

Caroline bit her lips as she continued to follow him. Just before Klaus hit the very top stair she finally spoke up. "Maybe I could go with you." Klaus stopped again and turned to look at her. "I mean I just don't think you should be going alone."

"I assure you I can take care of myself, Love." Klaus said with a smile. Caroline laughed. "But you are welcome to come along. You should know the witch and trust her yourself before she starts messing with your mind." Klaus walked down the hall to his bedroom door. "Rebakah!" He called out as he pulled a small duffel bag from his closet.

"You are packing?" Caroline asked confused.

"I'm not sure how long we will actually be." He paused. "We can stop at your house so you can pick up some things." He let out an aggravated sigh. "Rebe…"

"What is it, Nick?" Rebekah asked cutting him off when she appeared in his doorway.

"I am going to New Orleans. I may have found a witch."

"Well, that's great! Who is she?"

"Her name is Dahila. Which is basically all I know. But she is supposedly a powerful witch and has other powerful witches working with her." Klaus placed the last thing in his bag then zipped it up. "I am not sure how long we will be gone but it shouldn't be long."

"You are going too?" Rebekah asked turning towards Caroline.

"Um…yeah…I just didn't think he should go alone."

Klaus walked over towards his door and just before he walked through he looked at Rebekah. "Ah yes, Caroline is very concerned for my safety." He said with his famous smile. Rebekah smiled back.
